This company was sold to a larger corporation, and the service is terrible. They do not honor their "warranty" - they will charge to come out to inspect the work they did. After we had a very large project done in our living room, we started having regular outages. Even though the workmanship warranty was 10 years, they would not come out to see if it was their fault without a huge fee ($700+). DO not trust this company. read more

We did not have a great experience with Gene Johnson/Taylor Heating and will think twice before using them again. We purchased a natural gas furnace and had it installed a week later by two technicians. We immediately realized that no sediment trap had been installed (as required by code). We called 3 different times over the next week and a half requesting they confirm the sediment trap was not installed and provide us a copy of our invoice and warranty. Only on the third call did we at the very least receive a copy of our invoice and warranty. Three weeks after the install the furnace over heated and stopped working because the tap setting was calibrated too low for the size of our house. Their technician came out adjusted the setting, got the furnace working again and confirmed that no sediment trap was installed. Finally, almost a month after original install and a 5th phone call, they sent someone to add the sediment trap. We all make mistakes or miss something so though frustrated, I give a pass to the technicians who didn't add the sediment trap at install (I'm generous as it didn't cause any immediate harm to us.) My frustration is with the company not returning our calls and not communicating when we could expect a resolution. It took almost a month to have the install done correctly, inspection pending. A small credit to them is they did honor their $500 No Frustration Warranty and promptly gave us that money back (after phone call #4). read more

The day after our kitchen drains decided to stop draining and instead push a bunch of water onto the floor, Sean came out from Gene Johnson plumbing, took a pretty quick look, and had the problem fixed in just an hour or so. He was friendly throughout the visit and more than happy to show us what was going on in the mysterious places beneath the kitchen sink. He thoroughly explained what he was doing and where each charge was coming from, and the cost was reasonable for the work being done. When he left, the sinks were cleaner than what he found when he got there. Sean did a great job and we're very happy with the service he did for us. They are absolutely terrible at returning calls. As soon as they sell you a unit they are done with you. We bought their "top of the line" Daikin unit and have had nothing but problems. Takes forever to heat or cool the house. We have had a year long problem of just trying to get our unit fixed and no one will communicate. We are at a loss of what to do. We worked with the Puyallup location. Cameron, the manager will not return a phone call. Gail, the dispatch coordinator, will not return our phone calls. We hired Gene Johnson (previously Taylor) to install a new backup generator. Jason Burchell headed up the team that did the work. I don't think I've seen three people work harder in my life. From the time they arrived, they never wasted a moment. They ran conduit, ran cables, installed complex control boxes, placed the generator and wired it all into my house wiring... all completed in time to have power back on by end of day. They always knew exactly what they were doing! Jason was just everywhere making sure everything was moving along and he was so very nice. They were all nice and patient with me watching the work (trying to stay out of their way). Worth every single penny! So very competent and capable. DO NOT USE unless you like paying $575 per hour (what I was told their hourly rate was yesterday). I called two other local companies after that, since I know the way jobs are bid can vary. One said $399 and the other was first hour is $200 and then it depends on the job - they also said consults are free. I originally left a good review for this company, but after the job was done and I thought more about what I had to sign an estimate for vs what ended up being done, things just did not make sense. I have now called them at least 4 times to get a call back from a manager. Ten business days later and no call back to discuss my request for an itemized bill. This alone tells me that I was probably overcharged and no one can explain why, nor is there any desire to make it right. I do want to add that the techs were very friendly and did a great job. The job was to just replace a high capacity doorbell transformer which was diagnosed in about 15 minutes. While they were here I also had them replace a doorbell camera - which took maybe 20-25 minutes since it was connecting 2 wires and securing the new wall plate. The estimate was $782 which I of course said sounded high. I was told that it was high because they had to roll a truck the next day since the part wasn't on the truck. This sounded a little off to me and I should have questioned it more, so that's on me. I am also trusting that they are quoting me with fair market prices. I heard "transformer" and think maybe it's a fairly costly part so I will trust their expertise. After some review no, they are in fact not expensive parts and cost around $20 give or take. Even with a markup they would still be within reason (although now I wonder what they charged since they never itemized anything after I requested a receipt). Long story short I was charged $782 for 1.25 hours of very basic work. If you like paying super high hourly rates and working with people that never call you back then Taylor Heating & Air is the place to call! I will add that I was never difficult with anyone on the phone and the girls that answered the phone seemed understanding. I just wanted to speak with someone to get a better understanding of where the charges were coming from. You definitely lost a lot of future business with some big upcoming projects. Below are just some notes after a quick internet search.. "An hourly rate of $575 for standard heating and air conditioning services is highly unlikely and significantly above the industry average. In the last three weeks I've had two experiences with Gene Johnson and their local rep, Taylor Heating and Cooling. After my first experience, I didn't want to ding them but I've now lost two days off - they will point to Gene Johnson as the problem, but for the customer, they are inseparable. Three weeks ago, Blake from Taylor Heating and Cooling came to perform a routine service and descale our tankless water heater. He was punctual, professional, and provided an estimate. While routine, it was nonetheless frustrating. The parent company, Gene Johnson, despite multiple requests for routine maintenance (descale a functional furnace - make and model available) refused to provide an estimate - or even a range. When Blake did arrive, the estimate provided was over 50% higher than what a local plumber had already quoted us. Today, our Furnace Servicing was to be between 8-12. Despite being told by dispatchers previously that we would be "the first job of the day" the technician didn't arrive until 1pm. It was only after the visit was complete that we learned that the "Furnace Service" we were sold was really nothing more than an inspection that took 35 minutes (1:08 pm - 1:43 pm entry to departure on my Ring cam). They provided an astronomical quote to clean the blower wheel - no mention of cleaning the burners, the igniter, the condensate trap or the heat exchanger - and followed with a pitch for upgrades/services ranging from $360-$5000(!). I essentially wasted my day off and paid them for a sales call and to tell me my furnace needs to be cleaned (which I knew - hence the appointment). That said, the technician, Khamani (like Blake), was professional and polite. I can't blame him for the business model. My dealings with Gene Johnson (and Taylor Heating by association) have been a total waste of time and money. Maybe it would be worthwhile if something is actually broken; but after these two experiences, I will NEVER do business with a Gene Johnson company if I can avoid it. I called and made appointment they said am. They finally showed at 3pm. The tech did some testing and found a bad blower switch board. The switch runs around $40.00 bucks, he than quoted me a price of 985.00 + tax. When I got myself off the floor I told him to pick up his tools I would find someone else or do it myself. We talked a minute and the price now went to 450.00. I need fixed so I said go ahead. Now after 5 days,I still have no receipt and when I called to try and get one I couldn't get a hold of anyone that could or would do that for me. Had to get our heat pump replaced, and had a lot of bad experiences with other companies that came by for quotes. The Taylor rep was awesome. Not pushy at all, and went out of his way to find all of the different discounts/rebates we would be eligible for, including a veteran discount(!). I needed new ducting in for a home remodel. The scheduling was easy and on the first appointment the technician (Nar) was 2+ hours late. It wasn't a big deal as we have a lock box on the property and he (and dispatch) kept me in the loop on it. He called me when he got there, did the walk-through on the phone - Nar was very kind, knowledgeable and confident that they could get the job done quickly and on budget. The day of service two guys showed (not Nar) in the window they said they would and I met them at the home. Neither were in masks, which was frustrating (and unsafe) but they were getting down to business. I stuck around for an hour or so to see if they had any questions or ran into any unexpected issues. When they went on lunch I checked in and they said it was pretty straight forward and they were good to go. They assured me that they'd ping me after they finished to let me know how it went. (We had a tricky small crawlspace they were unsure of) Well - they never pinged me. I got an invoice via text and was asked to review them. And here's my review: look elsewhere! The guys were kind and seemingly knowledgable but the cons outweighed all of that. Specifically: they were not following CDC safety guidelines, they left the jobsite an absolute mess (even though we left out 2 large contractor cans and bags for them), they drilled 12-15 unnecessary holes in my ceiling (in every room) that were obvious mistakes - but they didn't both to patch them (or tell me about it), 1 duct was run in the wrong place, they didn't provide a full set of vent covers, oh - and their online payment portal isn't working. So...yeah it sucked. It's too bad - I really liked Nar and was excited to get a new vendor on my books, but this was a really disappointing hire. read more

I have been using Taylor Heating and Electrical for almost a decade now, and I wont go to any other provider. They are always swift in their responses and get out to me quickly. Any work I have needed from furnace to AC, to electrical outlet issues, they have been the right people to call. Their hourly rate is high, (probably not higher than industry average, but I am not sure), but the quality of their service and personal service is worth every penny! They always go above and beyond! They never show up when they're supposed to, you have to constantly call them to get an update for service and they'll hang up on you for their mistakes. If they don't hang up on you, different people tell you a different story on why they can't make the time that you confirmed. They'll only try to correct the issue once you leave a 1-star review. Happened to me twice before finding another contractor. The other negative review is right, they'll be perfect on a sales call and get you in a signed contract for high dollar value, then charge $60-130 for a warranty repair and never show up for weeks, leaving your newer system inoperable. Informed they would need to send someone out to diagnose this issue - They stated there would be no charge. I double checked on this, and they double confirmed there would be no charge. - Appointment was scheduled for the next day, my wife rearranged her schedule last minute to be available for the 8am - 12pm window they provided. They would call 30 minutes before they arrive. - Day of appointment, service person called and informed us they would actually be charging us about $130 - I called to speak with the office I originally spoke to address the $130 charge and asked if they could review my phone call where I was told there would be no fee - They confirmed they recorded the conversation, and a manger had reviewed the call, but they did not have the ability to waive the fee - When asked if they could apply any sort of coupon, they refused. Opinion: They screwed up but wouldn't work to resolve the issue which is incredibly poor customer service. When I looked for any sort of middle ground, there was no movement from their end. Felt very much like a gotcha moment. Lured in with a low cost and sprung on with a fat fee. We had to figure out a way to shift either mine or my wife's schedule around last minute to make the appointment work just for them to go back on their word. With plenty of other electricians in Washington, I recommend looking elsewhere. They do not care about the customer, only your dollars. read more

Major caveat emptor here: Thought we had a fire hazard, so hired Gene Johnson/Taylor to investigate buzzing flickering lights. Wasn't the wiring, it was a bad switch which they replaced for $400. Ok. Asked them to do other work meanwhile, gave a quote for $1200 (standard fee of $600/hr, which I might support for a neurosurgeon) for a 'circuit restoration' to fix a 'jacuzzi' hot tub (no guarantees). Turns out the problem was a dead controller, just needed a replacement part to 'restore' the circuit. I suppose they're out there to take advantage of people who don't want to or can't comparison shop. Betcha quite a few elderly people have paid that $600/hr. Should be illegal. read more

He was knowledgeable about the plumbing issue we were experiencing, he showed us pictures of the before and after before covering up the plumbing work and the work was so clean and well put together. I feel confident about the work he did. He took his time and care while in our home. John was also super friendly and explained the work he would be doing every step of the way. I don't know if he is an owner of the business but he is definitely invested in the work he does. I had a brand new furnace and AC unit installed by Taylor Heating and AC in Feb 2023. In June of this year... my AC stopped working... Only the 2nd summer l've had it. I called them on June 20th and they had someone come out on June 24th and found two issues... a power supply problem and signs of a leak. They were able to do a "temporary fix" then scheduled a future date to find and repair the leak (July 11th). They came on that day and found the leak but needed to order a part for it. The AC was functioning at this point due to the temporary fix they did, so they scheduled me for July 26th for the repair. A few days later (July 16th) my AC stopped working again so l called to see if they could come sooner. I was told the 26th would be the next available. On the 26th, the day of my appointment, no one showed up so I called after my appointment time and was told they had called me that AM to reschedule because there was an issue with the part they received from their supplier. I didn't have any missed calls or voicemails. They rescheduled me for today 8/1. I called yesterday to confirm that everything was ok ( since last time no one showed up) and was told yes, you are the second job of the day tomorrow. Then when I got off work yesterday and checked my messages I had a voicemail from Alex saying they had an issue with the part again and they have worked it out with the supplier (which is exactly what I was told on the 26th and they now have to reschedule me for 8/6 and when I got the message the office was already closed. I honestly feel like they are bumping me for higher paying jobs because this repair is covered under warranty. The temperature is in the 90s and I have been with out a working AC for most of the summer. An AC that I paid $15,000 for barely a year ago so l'm frustrated... And hot. I had Gene Johnson/Taylor Heating an A/C install a new HVAC system. I have an older house with an outdated electrical panel. I was told that it needed to be replaced and was happy to do so. I had the $ in my available so I paid the bill for the panel and the HVAC system to avoid monthly payments. I was referred by a friend who worked for the company and took that to heart. A few months later my friend (who is an electrician) said they overcharged me for the panel and did not do a very clean job on the inside. Oh, well I can live with that. Now for the main problem. I went to look for a new furnace filter and couldn't find anything that was the same size. Called them up and asked if they could help. A week later I received a package with filters that wouldn't fit. Called them again and a week later another package of filters that didn't fit again. Spent the next few weeks talking to people who said they were ordered and received nothing. Called 3-4 more times, left messages and still nothing. Finally received a third package and still the wrong size. Lesson learned put them on a payment plan so you can withhold $ if the company is not meeting your needs. read more
