Secondly, we are from out of town, and that wasn't an issue, even on a post-Christmas weekend. They gave me the option of an afternoon or following morning appointment. Third, the Doctors and Techs are super friendly, and most importantly, super kind and attentive to your pet. The doctor gave me specific instructions, diet recommendations, and a detailed estimate, should the situation require a surgical solution later. I am so glad, that I took the recommendation of my son-in-law who uses them for his 3 dogs!

I am becoming more and more upset with the standards and practices of the vet industry. I am a…read morebiologist. I have worked as a vet assistant in two different cities. In both experiences I found the vet to be corrupt. Coming up with extremely expensive testing that doesn't answer questions, and the animal still dies. I found the Brookhollow veterinary location to be just the same experience. They had multiple theories of why and how my dog is sick. I spent $2600 in 6 days on testing, IV, kennel stay, and more.... My dog passed away the very next week. No questions answered, no problems solved. He literally had nothing for me but a giant bill and a half caring apology. I make WELL below poverty in this day and time. I simply had to tell them I couldn't afford more tests to try and save my dogs life. They had no answer for me. A month later my Boston Terrier became diabetic and ill of old age. After pleading with my family they still took her to this place. Pretty much said there was nothing they could do but put her on insulin until she passed away, and another giant bill to follow. The vet industry is so corrupt and wrong. A lot of the testing is pointless and wrong and they add up so fast to make a bill 500$ or more in no time at all. How can families, single parents, or even someone who is living alone and trying to start a independent life afford to even have their animals seen with these prices? A fecal sample consists of the dogs fecal matter and a salt water solution they stir to make a soup. They put a microscope slide on top of the bottle filled with the mixture, allowing the parasites and other potentially harmful critters to float to the top and stick to the slide. The slide is then looked under a microscope to check for harmful parasites. This can range in price from 25-45$ for a fecal sample. Salt water and poop cost you that much. Ridiculous. The doctor came up with so many theories and excuses for tests, I almost went bankrupt trying to save my animal, and he did not solve a single problem and I lost my animal. Thank you.

But mostly it's the front desk staff I find the most off putting. Three times I had to schedule my puppy to be neutered. The first time they called me last minute and said the vet had to leave town suddenly for a family affair. Totally understandable. I rescheduled. No worries. The second time, however, they called me at around 8:30 in the morning demanding to know if I was bringing my dog in or not. I informed them that, per my calendar, his appointment was not until the following day. I get rudely told that I am wrong and that now I am late. It is insinuated that I have somehow ruined everyone's day. This was during the Great Random Abilene Icestorm of 2018 so my car was encased in about 5 inches of solid ice. I hadn't cleared it off or warmed it up because I had no plans to go anywhere. I tell the woman on the phone this. She gets even more put out. I ask if I can just bring him in the next day (the day he was actually scheduled although she continues to deny that)...I am told no. I am told that the vet is so busy it will now be over a week until the procedure can be done. Am I being punished? The world may never know. Sooooo, it gets rescheduled. She is on speaker phone and my husband is sitting right next to me. I wrote the day and time down and I input it into my trusty phone. I reiterate: "now this is the day and time, right? I need us both to be sure" I am told yes. We hang up. The end. A week later I get a call from yet another rude staff member. "We are calling to confirm your dogs appointment tomorrow" Ummmmm......his appointment is day after tomorrow. Once again I am rudely told that I am wrong and they are right and I can't prove otherwise and am I bringing my dog in or not? Does this vets office exist in some rip in the space time continuum? Is there a worm hole these women must drive through on their way to work? My husband was a witness! I wrote down the day and time the last woman had barked at me (see what I did there? Hahaha)! Needless to say, I rearranged my plans and brought my dog in the next day. The reception was cold as usual...borderline contemptuous. He got fixed and updated on all shots and we went on our merry way. I'm searching for a new vet, btw.

Ryan King is knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and a gift from God helping these innocent creatures. If you're unsure if the bird is injured or an abandoned baby too young to survive on its own, call the bird rehabilitation center [325-437-4941] & describe the situation, offer to send them a video, picture or FaceTime so they can help you determine if you should bring the bird in before you disturb the bird. If it's outside of business hours [open daily 9am-4pm] & you're unsure what to do & want to get the bird out of harms way -- call, leave a VM, then try to use a thin shirt to place gently over the bird to then pick up the bird while hopefully causing minimal stress to the bird so the bird doesn't expend energy trying to get away especially on an insured leg or wing or something. Don't give food or water unless rehabilitators instruct you to do so or if they're closed and you have to keep the bird overnight you could put a little small dish of water but only when you can supervise because otherwise if you leave the water in there the bird could drown depending on its degrading mobility. Make sure to keep the bird warm especially if it's a baby. Use rabbit nest stuff you can get from any pet store if you want to provide it a place to burrow and be comfy until bird rehabilitation center opens. This place is NOT for your family bird ie not domesticated birds. When you see the Abilene Zoo building on your left go another ~ 100m and you'll see the bird rehabilitation center sign on a gate also to your left. When you get there. Park in front of the gate, call, & wait in your car. They'll come out with an intake form you will fill out with your name, address, where you found the bird, & if you know how the injury occurred. They'll then take the form & bird from you. If possible, they'll release the bird back to where you found it if that's a safe place. Donations are always welcome & it's the kind thing to do.
