With my years in ER's, and Navy hospitals, I have worked closely with MD's and OD's and have almost always been impressed with the approach to care and treatment with OD's overall. Medical doctors (MD's) and doctors of osteopathic medicine (DO's) are both licensed physicians who have similar medical education and training requirements, but they are significantly different in their approach to patient care and philosophies in general. MD's are trained in allopathic medicine, which is based on the use of drugs and surgery to treat symptoms and diseases. Way too often it's all about prescription meds for symptoms and not about addressing the causes, sad. DOs, on the other hand, are trained in osteopathic medicine, which emphasizes the body's natural ability to heal itself. They're trained to look at the whole person, including physical, emotional and even spiritual aspects, and consider how those factors may be affecting a patient's health. Some even use a hands-on approach to diagnose and treat patients, that can incorporate manual manipulations and other physical techniques. Note, both types of physicians are qualified to provide a wide range of medical services, including preventative care, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses and injuries. I may be biased today as my wife is a doctor of Naturopathic Medicine and we're both Reiki practitioners however DO's were my chose of doctor before either of us went down those roads, they just fit my idea of good medicine. The GPS led us there first and they new exactly where to point us to get to the urgent care. (They call it priority care FYI) Overall a great visit and would recommend if you have something urgent you need looked at. Especially if your doctors appointment is going to be a few days away or longer. They will take care of you and be honest with you. Kudos again for helping us find the cheapest pharmacy to get the antibiotics we needed. 11/10 would get sick again.

Kind, professional, interested in knowing everything about me, unhurried, friendly, and unlike any primary care physician I've ever had in my decades of life. He never made me feel I was too long-winded. He asked questions and took many notes of what we talked about, which comforted me. He was interested in knowing about me, as a person and patient. When I left the office, I took a deep breath as I looked to the sky while thanking God for my answered prayer for a physician just like Dr. Cowan. I live south of Foley in the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area and I've never found the quality of care, or a physician comparable to Dr. Cowan. So, if you're living in the beach area, it's worth the drive to Foley to see Dr. Cowan. I'm just so very grateful someone suggested him to me. Because, for the first time in years, I have hope and a peace I can't explain. I've been so worried about my health and desperately needed a physician to care and show interest in my well-being and quality of life. When I went to pick it up the milligrams were doubled!!! Still no conversation from anyone at the office! And just now I get a notice from the pharmacy saying my prescription did not have any refills so they would call the doctors office. So I remember in all the papers I had to complete one section said they would not approve from the pharmacy that I would have to contact. I didn't think that would be an issue because the order for refills should be automatic from the doctor when I was seen in August! Also I kept receiving a bill for $170 so I contacted my insurance and they said nothing had been submitted. So I contacted the office and they said to ignore as the IT department was working on it. That was around the first of September, however the end of September I received another notice so I contacted them again. The woman answering the phone was short and curt and seemed to be reading from a script, saying my insurance information didn't transfer so she will submit it now! To the doctor I work in a large hospital in IL it is our practice to make sure all our doors in our clinic are check and left open to make sure there is no one left. There are cases where client have been found dead the next day because no one check their examination room and the patient had a heart attack. This doctor should git upset with his staff instead of his client. I was told that they couldn't refill my medicine unless I came into the office because I hadn't been there since November. So I used MD Live to get refills because I was going out of town and couldn't go in. I called yesterday to make my appointment and told them that I needed to come in for refills on my medicine because they wouldn't fill it. They asked me who prescribed it and I said Jennifer Pope. They made me an appointment with her. My appointment was this morning at 8:30. I waited 40 mins to get called back. When I get back there I confirm that I need refills with the nurse. I also told her that my ear is bothering me and I might have an ear infection that I'd like the doctor to look at it. Then I was put through a depression survey. Nurse leaves then the doctor comes in. She told me that she can only give me a 30 day supply because Doctor Bell requires labs and an annual exam to obtain your refills. I stated that the office staff never explained that and I have basically wasted my time today and I would've made an appointment for what was required for the refills. She apologized and said she would find out why that happened with the office staff. She left the room. I realized that she didn't look at my ear and stepped out and told the nurse. The nurse came back and said that she was already with another patient. I said I can wait. Then she mentioned that I need to come back for my annual and I cut her off and said no, I won't be waiting for my ear to be looked at until my next appointment and I wasn't going to leave until she did. Nurse leaves. I hear whispering in the hall and what sounds like then she can wait. Enter the office manager. She begins to explain to me their annual exam requirements etc. I cut her off and tell her that isn't why I am upset. I'm upset because I told the nurse I needed my ear looked at and was told I that I needed to make another appointment because she doesn't have time. Mind you the doctor wasn't in my room longer than 3 minutes and I offered to wait and I had told the nurse about my ear before the doctor came in. She went out of the room to find out the situation from the nurse. I heard them whispering about what the timeline was when I asked about the doctor looking at my ear. Then I waited for 10 more minutes and nobody came back. As I sat there it dawned on me that the office manager had said that it was in November that I had seen Dr. Bell and had an annual which means that it hasn't even been a year since my last. I decided that I didn't want those people looking at my ear and would find a competent doctor with a competent staff that hopefully will give a crap about their patients.
