We found this place on Yelp and what a gem !!! The food was amazing and the live music was a surprise. The waiting staff was great and the owner/manager even came over to speak. The Ahi Tuna was amazing !!! The Ribeye was off the chain !!! The fried squash was better than my mom's !! Go !! Now !!!

My wife and I came here on a Saturday night. 1st time so we didn't know what to expect. When we came through the door and into the tiny dining area, we stood there awkwardly for a moment before one of the waitresses told us we could sit wherever. The table that was immediately to our left at the entrance still had glasses on it as did a couple other empty tables which left us with choosing a table set up for 6. No other option left really unless I had bussed a table for them. We poked our head into what I think might actually be the smallest bar I've ever seen. Now what I found odd and off-putting right off the bat was that they had live music in the corner of this very small restaurant. Don't get me wrong, the musician was great, but for that small of a space? We almost had to shout our order to our waitress because the place was so loud. Between the guy playing music and singing and all the people trying to carry on conversations over the music, I could barely hear myself think. Another strange thing you couldn't miss was the Men's and Women's restrooms smack dab in the main dining area....better hope Ol' Big Bob doesn't carry out the odor of that brown bomb he just dropped. The food was actually decent for the most part. Wife & I both had the Grilled Shrimp. My sides were Fries & Corn. Fries were great but the corn was clearly canned and not a good brand either. It was the brownest canned corn I think I'd ever seen. There was no seasoning or additional flavor to it, just canned corn heated in a bowl. My wife's sides were Fried Okra and Baked Potato. She said the Fried Okra had no seasoning whatsoever. The Shrimp was great, absolutely perfect. The service was on point and our waitress was great. My wife seemed to like the place but I'm just not a fan. This place has the feel of a restaurant that didn't get much thought put into it when it was transformed from being whatever it was before.

Grilled salmon with sriracha bourbon sauce, sautéed vegetables, and fried squash.

Traveling through a Little Rock for work, my group decided to grab breakfast before flying out. We came in due to the raving reviews from a multitude of online sources and they did not disappoint. I ordered the Root Benny and the blueberry muffin based on the host's recommendation. First cut into my poached egg and I already knew it was the start of a culinary journey. Absolute flavor and texture perfection. The seasonal greens (steamed kale?) paired so well with the greens and the crostini was the perfect vehicle for yolk dipping. The blueberry muffin was small but delicious--exactly what you should expect from a muffin. I wish I would've remembered to order the cookies to go. I suppose I'll have to come back.

They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a menu that features a fresh and healthier take on classic southern food. I really enjoyed the spicy tofu bowl with grits and collared greens, their homemade cornbread, and strawberry shortcake for dessert! I also liked their arancini which was on the specials menu. Their classic lemonade was delicious, and the perfect complement to my meal. I'd highly recommend The Root Cafe for a memorable meal!

The restaurant is located on the edge of the River Market District. The entrance is actually below street level. Take the stairs down to the front patio/courtyard area to get to the main entrance. Despite being downtown, the restaurant has a neighborhood feel to it. My server Camila was excellent! She was great about making recommendations and answering my questions. I ordered the Flank Steak (medium) with mixed vegetables (squash, zucchini, red pepper, onions) and mashed potatoes. It came with chimichurri sauce which was so good. The steak was very tender and flavorful. The veggies were seasoned well and were prepared al dente which I prefer. It was so much food and I couldn't finish it all. I didn't have anything to drink besides water, but the drink menu featured specialty cocktails like the Caipirinha and the Caipiroska. They also offered other cocktails, wine, beer, and NA beverages. I don't know much about the Little Rock culinary scene, but I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised to find this Argentinian restaurant. What a great discovery!

The salad was very fresh with nice greens and tomatoes, and to my delight, no iceberg lettuce. All the meat was perfectly seasoned and cooked the right way. We ate as much as we could, but couldn't finish it. It was a great meal, and we each had a margarita with it. They were really good also. Mine was a blackberry with jalapeño. Our server was very sweet and took excellent care of us. Decor was pretty simple, but it's a casual place, so not a big deal, I care most about what I'm eating anyway. We finished with a quatro leches cake, which is like tres leches but drizzled with dulce de leche. It was outstanding. If you like meat, they don't mess around here.
