He was efficient and I never heard of any complaints from the patients. Because of this, when he started seeing patients in the office, many hospital employees picked him as their primary care physician. He is a good listener which is one of the qualities of a good MD. If needed, he will refer you to consultants. He's very busy, so sometimes it's difficult to get an appointment earlier than you would like.

I was his patient years ago after…read morea car accident and his attitude towards my whiplash and recurring pain issues was, at best, dismissive, and at worst, annoyed ("What is it this time?" he snapped at me after I made a follow-up appointment). He refused to work with my lawyer, gave me the bare minimum of physical therapy, but was more than happy to hand out pills, which clearly became an issue in later years, given his current status. A crabby, careless old man who would often wander into his office an hour or more after his first appointments, and as many people noted, employed a staff who adhered to a very different Hippocratic Oath (First Give No Sh*ts). Wait times were always an hour plus, even when you made the first appointment of the day. I'm glad he was kind and helpful to others - that was not my experience. What HAS been my experience is 25 years of recurring and often debilitating neck pain that should have been treated better.

I am a Real Estate agent and was introduced to Dr. Sakiyama through a client of mine. Come to think of it he never bought or sold through me (LOL). Anyway I what I thought a a really bad strain of the flu turned out to be cellulitis which can unalive a person pretty quickly. I called him and told him my symptoms which btw my face was so swollen I looked like the elephant man. Dr Sakiyama told me to hang up the phone and immediately go to the hospital and tell them cellulitis. I walked in and they thought I was an accident victim. The doctor there said had I not come in I could quote possibly be dead the next day. That was 32 years ago. Thanks Roland! I am indebted to you.

Although candid and direct (which I like), he also is a good listener and seems to ask all the right questions. And he has a wry sense of humor. The UCLA Health Group is simply outstanding - extremely well organized with professional and upbeat nurses, technicians and office personnel. I believe they are currently "setting the gold standard" for how caring and efficient health and wellness care *should" be done!

I tried to like this doctor but I just couldn't deal with it. I just needed a simple monitoring…read moreduring my pregnancy, someone to take my TSH level once a month and let me know if I needed to change my dosage. This was the process: - Wait in the waiting room for 20 minutes. - Wait in the exam room for 30 minutes. - Dr. Ginsburg comes in, very slowly looks through my chart and asks me how I'm doing. Very slowly checks my thyroid & neck area. Calls the nurse in to take my blood. Leaves after 4 minutes in the exam room. - Nurse takes blood. - I call back 1-2 weeks later since results take a long time. - Nurse can't give me results on the phone, he has to personally call me. - He calls back and says that he will give me results at next appointment. - OR he calls back and I miss the call but he won't leave the results in Voicemail - just for a simple TSH level. - He sent me for other testing at different locations because he heard a heart murmur. And I had an ultrasound done of my thyroid. For one of the results it took almost 3 months and multiple appointments for him to get the results back to me. I would ask him about it and he would say they weren't in yet or that he needed to check with a nurse. Finally I got fed up & asked a nurse and she simply printed them off the computer and added them to my file. Geez. Was that so hard? He just seems like he isn't all there anymore. He is very elderly. You can't really communicate with him. You ask him a question and he pauses for a VERY awkwardly long time before answering. Or he'll turn around and look at the chart for 2 minutes and you wonder if he even heard you. He does everything veryyy slowly. He never asked me much about my previous medical history or anything about my pregnancy, PCOS, etc. He never goes into detail about anything. Everything is "fine." He doesn't seem to remember my medical history or what he is talking about or what he had already gone over with me. I just switched to a new doctor at UCLA and she spent almost 30 minutes with me, talking to me the whole time, and the most Dr. Ginsburg ever spent with me was 5 (mostly silence filled) minutes. After waiting 1 hour for him to show up. He IS nice. And he WAS the first doctor to mention to me that I had a slight heart murmur. But it just was never a good experience. He's also VERY touchy feely. When he's telling you goodbye he'll grab your hands or put his hands on your shoulders for an awkwardly long amount of time. Maybe it's in a grandfatherly sort of way but I find it uncomfortable.

ANYWAY, after i met Dr. Chu my worries went out the window. He is so funny and great and really understanding and knowledgeable. He accepts my insurance (Blue Cross PPO), and didn't even make me pay my copay when I had to wait fifteen minutes after my appointment time. I really recommend Dr. Chu.
