I must have walked by this place dozens of times without really knowing what was inside, but I'm so glad I finally stopped in. Located on the Rozengracht, it's super central and easy to get to from just about anywhere in the Jordaan or the Center. * The Atmosphere: It's dark, moody, and has a very cool "late-night" energy. Even if you aren't sure what it is from the street, the vibe inside is unmistakable. * The Food: If you like meat, this is your spot. The burgers are massive and juicy, and the ribs literally fall off the bone. * The Vibe: It's a bit louder and more energetic than a standard restaurant, making it perfect for a night out with a group or a casual date with great cocktails. It gets incredibly busy, so even though it feels like a "hidden" spot from the outside, you'll definitely want to book a table ahead of time. Overall: A total neighborhood win. Don't make the mistake of walking past it for as long as I did!
Came twice during our trip. VIBES: 4 stars, energy was high with diners and staff. Very happy, upbeat and fun. There were lot up doll heads and other funky decor in the room. Not scary but fun SERVICE: 4 stars We had drinks at the bar and the woman was sweet , animated! On the dining table , our servers were friendly , efficient and professional both times! FOOD: 4 stars for the burger temperature, cooked medium rare and juicy clear liquids . Brioche bun was very fresh and soft 4 stars : steaks cooked perfectly . Tasty not overly seasoned or salty so that we can taste the beef. Chicken Wings - cane with garlic sauce . Pieces were moist and decent size . 4 stars L ' Exceptionelle steak - 600 grams of grass fed beef a whole lot of meat cane from Ireland 4 stars , delicious Tomahawk 1100 grams grass fed and from Dutch lands , 4 stars Nice piece of Beef Fries- 3 1/2 stars Cauliflower - 4 stars I loved the lemonade "hello hello" 4 stars Aperol Spritz 4 stars
Summary: Casual yet elevated. Had dinner with some colleagues at Cannibale Royale. The atmosphere was "pubby" but food they overachieved on food quality. We opened with the steak tartare, crispy cauliflower, and the delicious cheese. Everything we sampled was great and flavorful. For mains, we all ordered different entrees. I elected to go with the ribs based on table envy while snooping during appetizer time. The ribs were my favorite style - fragile. What I mean by that is the meat melts off the bone with minimal effort. They were also extremely messy (plus points on that) and the flavor was on point. Only issue for me was I couldn't finish them because of quantity. Yes, food won in this instance, but I will be back to try again. The staff were very friendly and attentive. They checked on us regularly and were spot on with their recommendations. I understand that there are multiple locations for Cannibale Royale. They all have similar ratings if you're near one, it is definitely worth checking out. As Arnold says, "I'll be back."
This place was incredible! It was actually so good that I ate here 2 days in a row... and I'm not even sorry about it. The ambiance is lively and it does get VERY busy especially in the evening so do make a reservation or come before 6pm and you may get lucky! I recommend you try the espresso martini or the Sangiovese, both are excellent. I'll definitely be back!!
Came in for a quick Bitterballen fix. Place was dark and intimate and the bartender quick and on it. Had a beer some delicious Bitterballen and left. Will come Back for dinner for sure.
My friends and I came here because it's one of the only sit down restaurants that are still serving food past 9 pm. The food is just not good. My friends ordered the steak and I had the veggie burger and there was nothing to write home about. I honestly didn't think it was possible to mess up a veggie burger. My other friend also ordered a regular burger and she did not like her meal either. The staff was friendly and it's very clean and spacious but otherwise I think I would've enjoyed my meal at McDonald's better than here.

It was a Monday but this place was busy at dinner time. We arrived around 7:30pm and ended up at the bar which was fine because it was fun watching the bartender make drinks. After a round of cocktails and an appetizer, the hostess told us there was a table available which was a nice surprise since we were fine at the bar. What we ate: Cauliflower wings were really good. It's basically breaded cauliflower. The breading was nice and not too thick, perfect fried and not oily. Le Cannibale Royale burger was amazing. This burger had a lot going on but it wasn't too overwhelming and all the flavors of the burger went well L'Incroyable - large piece of ribeye cooked perfectly (medium rare) and had good flavor. The food, drink and service was well done. We were in Europe for a week but we kept talking about how this meal really stood out for us. Highly recommend!
We didn't have a reservation and were able to eat at the bar. Service was fantastic and friendly. Had the chicken Caesar salad and wings with a side of Caesar salad. The food was delicious. Also tried the canniable royale beer and the cannibale blonde and both were delicious. Portions are good. Inside is great

The food is great. (4.5 stars) The decor is rustic old European. This place is a sure bet if you are in the area. The service is fast, friendly and very efficient. The garlic bread is a must have. I could eat a whole basket by myself. The watermelon salad is also a must have. It was a great combo of sweet and savory. The wings are full of flavor, but I wish they were more spicy. The ribs are "fall off the bone" tender, with a nice hint of smoke. I will definitely come here again.
Why 4 stars? Because this was a pretty good take on American food. --- --- --- I love eating local and authentic cuisine, but in doing my research about traditional Dutch food, I was not super enthusiastic about trying it. Instead, we opted for Cannibale Royale. I had seen ribs on many menus, so I was curious to try Amsterdam's version of something I've eaten approximately 5,000 times in the U.S. And the burgers looked incredible, so that was a requirement too. The Cannibale Royale burger ended up being the star of the show. Honestly, if I were to do it all over again, I would skip the ribs and just have one of these all to myself without splitting both with the wife. 5-stars. The ribs were fine, but unlike in America, they only give you a small cup of sauce, so you have to use it very strategically. They had a good flavor, but were a bit dry. 4-stars. We also enjoyed the sweet potato fries and mac-n-cheese as our sides. Not amazing, but definitely better than average. 4-stars. We had one day in Amsterdam, so would I say this was absolutely worth visiting for our only dinner? No, but it certainly was not a bad meal either!
I'm a committed carnivore, so a restaurant named Cannibale Royale had me before I even opened the menu. I found it browsing Yelp, and the name alone told me this was going to be a meat-forward kind of night. Fair warning if you're bringing anyone squeamish about restaurant names: The wife wasn't thrilled about it going in, though the food won her over fast. Getting there was its own small adventure. The place sits down a narrow alley, and our Uber couldn't get us all the way to it, which turned into a bit of a hike. That happened to us more than once in Amsterdam, using the exact address didn't always mean the driver could actually reach the door, so budget a few extra minutes if you're headed here. I normally default to steak, but the menu had a burger topped with pulled pork that promised more meat than a straight cut, and I couldn't pass it up. Delicious. Genuinely one of the best burgers I've had. But the wife's flat iron steak might have stolen the night. Flat iron is one of the most underrated cuts out there, and this kitchen proved it. She was still talking about that steak days after we got home, enough that I ended up buying flat irons from Costco just to chase it. The atmosphere is cool and a little edgy, dim lighting, a lot of character, and yes, some genuinely creepy decor scattered around, including an old doll that stares at you like it's judging your order. It ran loud, but not so loud we couldn't hold a conversation across the table. Service was good, just on European time rather than American time. Getting the check took a while, which threw us off at first, but that's the norm across the EU, not a knock on this place specifically. Pricey, but worth every bit of it. We'd go back without hesitation next time we're in Amsterdam. read more
Cool ambience, kind of dark and moody, the main wall is covered with clocks of all shapes and sizes. We entered and seated ourselves, and within 5 minutes, a staff person greeted us, brought us a flask of tap water (tastes great and clean) and two glasses, and gave us menus. We ordered a short rib sandwich for him and a chicken Caesar sandwich for me. These come à la carte but you can add sides if you want. I was glad we didn't because the portion was generous. One thing I've noticed here is that the bread is always high quality--our sandwiches came in baguettes about 8 inches long --I had to cut mine in half to eat it lol. Both were savory and flavorful and satisfying. The meat was tender and well seasoned. We savored every bite! They both had crispy bacon in them as well. Very filling! Visited on a Tuesday afternoon, after a long travel day. We were greeted by the server who immediately asked us English or Dutch, directed us to the open seating and brought over menus. There was 2 of us and we shared the 16 piece Cannibale's Chicken Wings with a side of french fries and the L'Excentrique (crispy chicken sandwich). All the food was brought out quickly and fresh/hot! The chicken wings were good - although they are listed as spicy, I would say at most a 3/10, so not very spicy to us. The wings were extra saucy, if I ordered them again I would ask if they could either do light sauce or on the side. (Super messy, but they also provided wet wipes). The fries were just fries - crispy but still good. The chicken sandwich was the star! The fried cauliflower (think chicken wing in sauce but cauliflower) on top of the bun was absolutely delicious! I didn't have any bread as the bun is super thick but my spouse said it was good! The crispy chicken with bacon was very flavorful. No complaints - server was working alone with maybe 5-6 tables during lunch service and she was attentive and kind. All of the food was good and Goose Island beer was the perfect match for the food. TLDR: service and food were great! Get the chicken sandwich or if getting the chicken wings ask for them to go light on the sauce read more

It was a Tuesday night near the red light district and it was time for dinner. We couldn't decide what to eat so we decided to walk into Cannibale Royal completely blind and it was the best decision we could have made. This place was packed to the brim when we walked in but luckily a table just opened up and we were seated right away. The menu here has steaks, burgers, and a few other entrees as well as a slew of drinks and appetizers to go with them. I was looking for some substance so I settled on the Le Sympathique steak and split a side of the Rosemary French fries with my wife. The food didn't take too long to come out and it absolutely blew me away. The quality of meat was perfect, the juicy tender center was so flavourful, and each bite compared to the best steak houses I've had in Las Vegas. The Rosemary French fries were the perfect pairing and were the best version of fries I could have asked for. Overall, Cannibale Royale gets five stars for being dang near perfect. This place looks super cool inside and is covered with cool art, darker lighting, and just feels nice to be inside. I couldn't recommend this place more if I tried, seriously, this place is perfect and you need to try it yourself if you find yourself reading this. read more

Very good food and service. The restaurant was pretty packed on a Monday night, but we made a last minute reservation. The burgers and sweet potato fries are great, and my husband also enjoyed the ribs. The music and overall atmosphere was fun and lovely, as well. I would come back for a few drinks or another burger. read more

Cannibale Royale was recommended to me by my friends who had been here before. Wasn't too sure what to make of the place, since the food looked pretty American. But hey, why not right? We were lucky to be able to sit down immediately as the place was pretty full and we got the last available table. Although a lot of people seem to rave about the steak or ribs, I simply couldn't do it because I had literally just eaten four hours before coming here. Besides, I kinda felt like a burger anyways. So of course I had to Le Cannibale Royale because there's no way their namesake burger would be anything short of fantastic. And you know what? They sure as hell didn't let me down! The meat in this burger was just extraordinary. Don't tell me the Europeans don't know how to make a good American-style burger, because this was excellent. Somehow, they made a burger with pulled pork, sauerkraut, cheddar cheese, sauteed onions, mustard mayo, and bourbon BBQ sauce work without one flavor overpowering everything else. I was impressed for sure! Also, my friend did get the ribs. I did try them. Not the best I've had and definitely not fall off the bone tender. But they were flavored pretty well. I can see why so many people love them, it's not like you can find pork ribs like these readily in Europe. Service was great, no complaints from me. Pretty damn good meal to be had here if you want some American-style food with a Dutch twist. I will definitely be back to try that steak! read more
Fantastic restaurant. We arrived slightly early and they allowed us to come inside and have a drink while waiting for them to officially open. Ok, let's get right to the food. Our group absolutely loved the sausage, thought the bread and butter and especially the Mac and cheese were fantastic, the flat iron steak was flavorful and cooked spot on. In last place came the chicken. And our waitress was also fantastic and we can't say enough good things about her. I would definitely recommend this place to others. read more

We were lucky to find this place and get a table without a reservation; restaurant gets full quickly & people are turned away if not reserved. Food is good, the garlic bread comes out of the oven & the butter has coarse salt on top. The steak is cooked as desired and the wing were also good. read more

We were lucky enough to find Cannibale Royale after a late night out in Amsterdam......don't ask don't tell right? What we found was great food, a fun atmosphere and the best most enthusiastic service I've had anywhere in Europe (BY FAR) Ribs that were too much for one person and by all rights shouldn't have been that perfectly cooked that late at night..... The steak was perfect (add the chimichurri) Mac and cheese and fries next to a tall beer on the side tied it all together. We asked the waiter if we could try a small Heineken to see if it tastes much different than it does in the states (like Guinness in Dublin) The next thing you know we had 4 glasses and he joined us for a drink on the house. (And yes it does taste better) If I ever find myself back in Amsterdam I'll be sure and stop by. You should too. Enjoy. read more

So we ended up here because our tour guide David referred it and it was bomb!!! Please get reservations because we were lucky to come before the rush and ended up with a table. But it gets really busy. Joy our server was nice and gracious! There was no cauliflower wings tho...sad about that but the veggies for 2 was awesome!! The ribeye steak was cooked to perfection!! I absolutely loved this place!!! Also the music old school rap was a great vibe it made me feel like I was back in California. 10 out of 10 easy!!! read more
