Nearly four months, hours on the phone, lots of promises and excuses yet the internet service cable is still laying on the lawn. Eventually I was able to speak with someone on three or for of the phone calls. Once I managed to speak with a supervisor. I've been promised multiple times they would get back to me with an explanation but I've never received a call back. Either they just don't care or are beyond incompetent. read more

First thing this morning I let my dog out back and found two men who spoke broken English (and who drove an unmarked vehicle) in my backyard, digging a trench across the width of my back yard. I asked what they were doing, and they said they were installing a TDS line to my neighbor's house. No one notified me they would be coming, nor did the men bother to let me know when they got there or ask me, the property owner, where I preferred they dig a trench across my yard. Instead, they dug through one of my flower beds (they could have used about 5' more line and went around it instead) and across the part of my yard that I paid a professional to rototill and reseed earlier in the spring. I JUST got that newly-planted grass established by diligently watering it 1-2 times daily (I have the $200 quarterly water bill to prove it), and they dug it up and undid everything I had been working on for the last two months, (not to mention it was like lighting a match to the money I paid the landscaper and to the water utility). To add insult to injury, the men only put a handful of seed and hay down in a couple of small spots and proceeded to NOT repair most of the bare spots they created across the width of my yard. In calling TDS, none of the CS representatives, including the supervisor, could do more than say they were sorry and they would "submit a ticket" to the contractor that dug up my yard. Whatever happened to businesses wanting to make things right for their customers?? According to TDS, the men who dug up my yard are contractors and not their employees, which TDS apparently feels absolves them of any accountability. I had also signed up to have TDS service installed at my home, but when I asked the two men if they were going to run my line to my house today as well, they said no, it was on the schedule for tomorrow. No wonder all these companies are so expensive, this is the height of inefficiency. In the end, the men told me that my neighbor didn't want the line run to their house, so they ended up not installing it--which means they dug up my yard FOR NOTHING! I never saw them speak to those neighbors and they then proceeded to start trenching in the other direction across my neighbor's back yard. I strongly suspect the contractors had the wrong address and mistakenly dug up my yard, but were not forthcoming about it. The silver lining is that after seeing the contractor's disregard for my property, I took a more in-depth look at online reviews for TDS and saw on the review sites I researched that TDS has an average rating of 2 out of 5 stars (even less on the Better Business Bureau's site), I was left with enough time to cancel my installation. I currently have Spectrum, who are just as bad, but at least I know what to expect with them. Buyer beware, once you pay your $25.00 deposit to TDS, if you cancel your installation, that money is non-refundable. The salesperson who came to my house only told me it would be credited toward my first bill, but conveniently left out the "non-refundable in the event of cancellation" part. If you are a remote worker, it is also worth noting that TDS does not provide any evening service hours, so be prepared to have your workday interrupted if you require service from them and work a 9-5 schedule like I do. read more

I wish I could give them a brown star. Like many others, it took 7 tries to get them to my new house to install service. We've been with them two years now because we have zero options. We pay $80/mo for a phone line we don;t need and 15MB internet. I have never seen more than 12, and it usually around 2! They make you pay for the top phone svc to get the 15. I just called to ask if I can get the most basic phone svc since we NEVER use it and it's just to get the DSL internet, and was told they would have to lower my internet speed to 1MB!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S 2019!!!! Oh, did I mention I was on hold for 15 minutes and Gail was rude? These folks should have a class action lawsuit or a large fine by the FTC or FCC. read more

Horrible speeds .... and the excuse "we don't guarantee Wi-Fi speed". I have used Comcast and somehow a 150mbps line on Wi-Fi , speed test reports 110mbps. But 1GB fiber on Wi-Fi , speed test reports 70mbps !!!!! Sort of stuck with TDS , as there are no other providers in my area ! read more

The customer service is terrible. We got internet through them and they had to run a line through our property. Tore up the yard in the process and then the internet stopped working. I run a few businesses and we have had problems with dropped calls and incoming calls for the last 8 months. I had phones that didn't even operate for 18 days this summer. Every tech says that our account looks awkward from their end. My account executive says that we need to have fiber optics installed. I had her write up a contract and 2 months later am still waiting for the installation materials to arrive. She said in the meantime they could send someone out. It took 4 months just to get a person on site and he said that we had hardware issues. A month later these were fixed. I had properly working phones for 2 weeks and then the same issues happened again. Now I cannot get ahold of her. Nobody calls me back. When I call, I just get transferred from one department to another with nobody able to handle the problem. We have our emergency lines running through this company and now I'm hearing that they aren't working. We pay thousands per month for this lousy service. read more

The TDS Supervisor that I spoke with about my final bill dispute was very rude. He refused to work with me. They created the problem when they turned off my internet when I put my cable on seasonal suspension. Everyone that I spoke with never said sorry for my inconvenience. When I bought my house I notified TDS that I would no longer need their services. They wouldn't disconnect until 2 weeks after we moved. I asked for a box to return the equipment. Never received it. Took the equipment to an office, the nearest was 30 miles away they refused to take the equipment. again called and asked for a box to return the modem. Again never received it. I received a bill of nearly $300 called them again. On hold for 1 hr. Never did talk to anyone. Still have their equipment. I paid the monthly charge that I paid every month. I refuse to pay for equipment they wouldn't take back. Haven't heard from them in a few weeks. If your company wants an example of horrendous customer service, TDS is the company to emulate. read more

Not a customer-oriented company. They only worry about signing up new customers and not retaining the ones they are supposed to service. I discontinued my TV service only to be told that my internet will now cost me $78 per month. What??? However, if I was NOT a current customer, then I could sign up for $50 per month. Also, if I want a special promo deal, then I have to wait at least 90 days to get it. While most businesses strive to keep the customers they have and grow the company by adding new customers, TDS is only interested in signing up new customers. It's just a vicious circle of signing up and cancelling the same people over and over. Just to make bad matters worse and add insult to injury, there is an additional early termination fee of $50 along with a $21 return shipping fee for the equipment. When I asked about dropping the equipment off to a local office, I was told that is not allowed. HORRIBLE SERVICE. First appointment and no one showed up at my boyfriends to get the internet up and running in his new place. No call or email. Took off work and lost pay just to sit around for them to show up. After reaching out to them about it, customer service later emailed us saying that they're previous installation took longer than expected (not a good sign either) and asked for a number so the technician could call. I can't believe I just read all 58 reviews (that should tell you right there that TDS is a BAD BAD company!!!) I'm like everyone else would give it a negative 5 stars if YELP offered that. Out of the 58 reviews I think I saw maybe 3 reviews that were over 3 stars. SHAME ON YOU TDS. You should not be in business because your company just stinks! Like many of you we had no choice but to get TDS for our cable & internet and even though we didn't need a landline, we had to pay for that to. So here's my story....we lived right across the street from corporate TDS in Middleton, WI. When we got ready to move and turn in our equipment we were told "oh no, you can't do that, we will mail you a box to return it when you get moved". We got moved out of state and a few days after arriving to our new home we received a small box to return the modem but not one for the cable set top boxes so we assumed they didn't want those so we trashed them. So this week we got a bill for $331.50. No explanation for what it was for. We had already disconnected our service over 6 weeks ago. My husband called to tell them we paid our final bill. They said it was for equipment not returned. He said we did return your equipment. They said no, all we got was the modems. He said "we didn't get any boxes for the other equipment just the small one for the modem and we returnd that." Then 3 days later we get another notice that says if we do not pay within 10 days it will be turned over to a collection service. WTheck TDS! I even tried calling to talk to a rep and still they would not listen. So consumers what can we do....keep giving them bad reviews and maybe other prospective consumers will go else where and run before they get in bed with TDS. TDS....all I want is for you to make my balance "zero" as it should be since we paid all our bills and always on time. And we returned the equipment that fit in the box. When we gout our first installation they installed cable TV which I didn't order and I wasn't home. So then I got charged for that even when I called and canceled, no help. Then 4 months later they decided to start charging me more than initial plan was. Took them 3 months to bury the line along the house, after the wife ran it over the neighbors with lawn mower. What else do I ha e to worry about them secretly doing now. Terrible customer service to deal with. If spectrum wasn't as bad I'd switch, I don't know what else to do there. I agree with the other reviewers and would definitely give TDS 5 negative stars if possible. We've had a horrible experience with TDS. We have TDS internet and 4 TDS phone at our business. My phone has had issues for the last two years; I experience unclear reception with clicking noises. This makes customer calls awkward and difficult. When I call the company, I get shuffled around to multiple departments. It seems like the employees have gotten really great at passing the buck, instead of fixing issues. I've had multiple phone calls with tech support and other TDS departments. Each time, I get the run around. Our service rep, Michelle Piper, is quick to send us bids for new services but unresponsive to the issues that we've brought to her attention. A truly bad company culture... Shame on TDS and the employees that have sunk to such a low standard. read more

They do not meet the service expectations they advertise - or the "up to" is relied on too heavily. I was paying for 1G service, dropped down to 300M service and saw no change from the 26-30M I was receiving regularly. Upload speeds are faster than download. The straw that broke the proverbial camel's back occurred today when I called to cancel service because we are moving out of state to an area where TDS availability is unknown (as we don't have a new permanent residence yet). I was informed that because we are two months short of completing a contractually agreed term that I would be charged $100. I get that the letter of the law is that I owe it. Did I read the contract's fine print - no. I have moved many times in my life and I have never seen this type of fee enforced for moves out of the area. I spoke to a supervisor, Mary, who did not offer a thing. Prorate it, cut some off, nope! I will never use TDS service again anywhere that I live and will give anyone that asks (or doesn't) my opinion of their service and business practice. I give zero stars. This company has been so disappointing, frustrating and difficult to deal with. We started a new service to try them out after we moved and we had wifi for a week. The wifi stopped working on a Friday night after business hours and we called to have them troubleshoot. We would connect to the network but there was no actual wifi service to connect to. They couldn't deem what was wrong but to try and get a new router. I bought a $150 router to replace our old one and still nothing. We called again Saturday and Sunday to try and have them fix our service and got the same responses and no resolutions. On Monday I called (4th call in a row) I called TDS to have them send a representative to our apartment to see if they could see what was wrong. The man on the phone started talking very heavily like he had won an argument and said since I wasn't home to troubled shoot in that very moment, it wasn't deemed necessary enough to send a representative out, even though we had called them so many times days prior. I was so frustrated, waiting on hold for 45 minutes to an hour for each call, just so that they could say "you don't need help." I then called to cancel our service since obviously they didn't seem interested in helping us at all to restore our internet service. The representative tried to charge us for a modem and a router that they did not provide to us. I said that they had installed a fiber, and if they want to come get that fine. The representative got confused between the three, and I had to explain that a modem, router and fiber were three different things. He said he would take it off after that. He then proceeded to charge us for the service, but I mentioned that they offer a 30 DAY CANCELLATION in their policy. He continued to say "well, if that were not the case, you would be charged the full amount." A week after that, TDS sent us two empty boxes to return equipment they didn't give to us. Three weeks after that, they sent a final bill to our old address, which we didn't get until way afterwards because the mail had to be rerouted to our new address. They sent us another bill, even though they agreed with the 30 day cancellation policy. The representatives we got have been so nasty and narcissistic that they were so focused on trying to win arguments vs help their customers. I have wasted so many hours trying to fix our wifi on hold times over the phone only to receive such condescending snippy representatives who you can obviously tell they hate their jobs. This has been the worst experience, and TDS deserves zero stars. read more

By far the worst customer service of not only internet providers, but of any company I have ever dealt with for any service or product. If you get someone on the line they are impossible to understand, and have almost zero knowledge except for the limited information on their screen. They have no ability to work with any other department (set up, install, etc.) and have zero ability to get anything accomplished over the phone. I emailed customer service to get a call back, was told it would be 48 hours, and a week later still havent heard from anyone. Dont even bother with calling and requesting a call back - that won't happen. The product is actually not that bad, but getting it set up and dealing with any issues is a nightmare. I used TDS for almost 5 years. I recently moved and mailed in my router and set top boxes. After two months, I received a bill for $185.00 for a set top box that they had not received. I contacted their customer support, only to be transferred from person to person until I was disconnected. When I called back, it was the same thing. Transferred from person to person. I was finally able to reach a "supervisor". They stated that the receiving department had not received 1 of the 2 set top boxes. I informed them that I had mailed both of them in, along with the router. The "supervisor" stated that he would check in with the receiving department and would get it taken care of. That was the end of the call. Fast forward another 2 weeks and I received a bill from a collection agency for $185.00. I would recommend you find a different provider. read more

Last year a business card was left on our doorstep regarding new service in the area called TDS. I (not my husband) called and talked with the salesman who stated that the service would be available end of December 2020 or in January 2021. We put a $25 deposit for the service (no contact was signed and never was I told that the $25 was non refundable). End of January I called TDS and was informed that we would not be getting service until sometime in the spring. On March 10th I received a text message alerting me an appointment on April 15th and been schedule by TDS. I contacted TDS and explained that would not be a good day, at that point I was given a date of March 23rd. I questioned whether or not that being an earlier date if the service was available and I was told "Yes." I received a confirmation on March 21st and on March 23rd received a call cancelling the appointment due to the service was not available yet. Okay....so I tried to contact the corporate office in which the calls get forwarded to Sales office. After numerous calls I got no where so my husband and I agreed that we would pass on TDS and get our deposit back. Unable to get any further help with TDS regarding our deposit so I contacted the credit card to dispute the charges. Today as I was leaving my house; who is next door turning on services....a TDS tech!!! I told him about what happened with us and he told me to contact the corporate office, don't talk to Sales. So I tried......2 1/2 hours later and repeating this story to 4 people; unable to talk with corporate, ended up talking to John a supervisor (rude) who basically told me that the original months given to get that deposit was a "estimate" and that my deposit was non-refundable; he then stated that he needed to talk with my husband because my name was not listed......REALLY! Funny the only thing that my husband did was provide his credit card. I talked with the Salesman's by phone, not in person!!! (We did a 3 way call so my husband could approve for me to talk with the supervisor and because we could not provide a 4 digit pin I could not be added to the account.). At that point I told him he better have proof in writing with signatures that the deposit was non-refundable. I'm suppose to get the deposit back in a month! We'll see. TDS sent me a brochure 5 times to every member of my household advertising bundle package deals. They offered a 20 dollar each service plan ( 20 for TV 20 for cable 20 for internet) . I called them to set it up they informed me they don't have any deals in my area of town. Excuse me? First of all I live 5 miles form their main headquarters in Middleton not in the boondocks. Secondly why mail something to people who cannot have access to their service. If I could I would give the 0 stars for their bad taste in direct mail strategies. Oh and when I did call they switch me three times promising they would "find me a deal" until the last person dropped me into a department that was already closed for the night. Have been in Middleton for about three years, began with cable service with Charter Communications. I was generally satisfied with Charter's service but was very disappointed with their technology, which was very behind-the-times. For instance, they are not even currently offering whole home DVR setups, the cable interface was ancient, and you could only record two shows at a time. Saw a billboard for TDS and gave them a call. They offer state-of-the-art fiber optic technology. Their DVR works superbly in a whole home setup and allows you to record 4 shows at once (2 HD, 2 SD). In addition, I have very basic telephone system and astonishing 100 MBPS high speed internet. All for $10 less per month than I was paying with Charter, and with no promotional pricing. The quality of the services are exceptional. Why not 5 stars? While the people on the phone are very nice to work with, most of them can only be reached during business hours (for instance, billing and service questions). Technical support is available after hours, however. In addition, their website is just horrible and very glitchy. I've been a customer for several months and the system still gives me error messages when I try to set up automatic bill paying. Very recommended nonetheless! read more

We have been loyal customers of TDS for many, many years and are now unexpectedly moving. We inquired with TDS to see if we could transfer our service to the new home and found out TDS is not in that area. Now, TDS informs us that we must pay a $50 "early cancellation fee". I can certainly understand that fee when a customer simply wants to end their service but as a longtime customer who made every effort to keep TDS, the fact that they are now going to nickel and dime us for a final $50 is POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I've never had a worse customer service experience than I've had with TDS so far. I have only been a customer for less than a month and I am already looking around for other providers due to the way I have been treated so far. The confirmation email I received had incorrect account information on it, so when I tried to call into to their customer service department they told me I didn't have an account and tried to tell me they didn't even provide services to my location. My installation was delayed twice and was eventually installed almost 4 weeks after I initially placed my order. They pushed back my installation date and would not explain why, and I had spent over 4 hours on hold with customer service trying to get them to actually install my service. While on hold for 4 hours I was disconnected twice. The first person I spoke to was actually quite nice but then a very rude manager told me there was nothing they could do before abruptly hanging up on me. While trying to access my online account to pay my first bill, the password I set up did not work and it wouldn't let me reset the password because I had never logged in before. I tried calling them and was on hold for almost an hour, so I tried to talk to their online chat for assistance instead. All I got were short, non helpful replies and was told to call customer service. When calling customer service they quickly informed me that they weren't able to help me because I was never given a pin number when my account was set up. They said they would mail me my pin number (at least 5 business days) and then I would have to call them back. All just to get my password reset. On top of the bad customer service, my internet is very spotty and cuts in and out a lot. Definitely not worth the hassle for below average service. read more

TDS Telecom has provided my land line and internet service for the past seven years. The call quality of the land line is great, much better than what I experienced with Charter Communications. I've never had any service interruptions either (unlike Charter). Internet quality has been good for the most part. I had some problems with a wireless router for a while, but the customer service staff did a great job of addressing the issue. Two modems later (on their dime), everything is hunky dory. Again, my experience with them is significantly better than when I was with Charter. I've always been pleased with my interactions with the customer service staff. Wait times can be long on occasion (thank goodness for speaker phones), but I always get connected to a live customer service rap that works hard to resolve the issue. And if they can't help, I get referred to someone who can. Not to beat a dead horse here, but again, their customer service responsiveness is head and shoulders above Charter. When they send a rep to my house, they arrive on time and and are courteous. I also appreciate their customer loyalty program. I have scored $60 of Amazon gift cards just for maintaining my service with them. read more
