For the rice plate, the pork was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Not a huge deal but the crispy part fell off from the meat so it took more effort to eat the whole thing. The broccoli wasn't too salty and balanced out fried pork. The broccoli was room temperature though likely intentional for this Taiwanese dish. Tea egg could've been stewed longer for better flavor. Overall, I'll come back again if I have a hankering for Taiwanese food. Milk tea had good flavor but boba was overcooked and soggy. Pudding was good. Frequented primarily by UNC students based on its proximity to the school, this place has a fun vibe and also tons of spots to sit and work. They offer matcha (with boba and jellies to add) and shaved ice. I didn't know about the shaved ice but someone ordered while I was there and I am intrigued. It looked delicious so I may have to come back to try. I got a large strawberry matcha with boba. It was $8.33 after tax, which I feel like is reasonable for the size and quality of the drink. My Dirty Tiger (brown sugar milk tea) drink though is my least fave of all the boba places I've been. It's like a regular while milk with boba, can't taste a hint of "tea". That plain. Went to Tea Hill 3x already. The first 2 visits about 2 years ago & the latest, just last week. The cafe was close to closing the last time we went but they took our orders well: 2x large Brown Sugar milk tea (both 50% less sugar). This was our first time ordering this particular drink, and we were disappointed. There are 2 major issues in their Brown Sugar milk tea: The first was the milk tea itself; while we could initially taste the sweet brown sugar flavor, it lacked the creaminess we craved from a quality Brown Sugar milk tea. It tasted like we were just drinking milk with brown sugar and boba. Too bland for our taste. The second issue was the boba. The tapioca pearls were too small we could barely get that fresh, chewy texture we get from most other milk tea cafes. In the previous visits, we tried the taro milk tea, which is made of taro powder instead of taro paste. What I remember enjoying more in Tea Hill are the Taiwanese/Korean snacks they offer. We actually discovered Korean kimchi pancake here, and we enjoyed its crispy texture, soy paste flavor, and delicious taste that can perfectly be paired with a tea of your choice. The kimchi inside made this a healthy bite. We also tried Tea Hill's Taiwanese popcorn chicken and braised pork chop rice plate before. Not satisfied with the amount and size of popcorn chicken but my girl enjoyed the braised pork rice plate, which tasted Taiwanese-authentic. Ambiance was welcoming with sufficient amount of tables often occupied by UNC students sipping tea & enjoying snacks. The interior's minimalistic aesthetic was a gem to see in a dowtown filled with cramped, visually-uninspiring spaces It's surely a pleasant spot to have a snack and sip cha. Tea Hill is a "classier Quickly" that offers a variety of teas & snacks, but I'd say that the latter category of its menu is a stronger reason for us to return. Perhaps "Snack Hill" would make a more fitting name. Jokes aside, I think Tea Hill has great potential to be the #1 milk tea cafe in Chapel Hill, a city lacking of quality tea cafes. I got the strawberry matcha and it seemed a little off. That's one of my favorite drinks to try places and it wasn't quite that bright green color and stronger tasting matcha flavor I'm used to. This spot is the perfect location for college students since it's located on Franklin St., and it was fairly busy when I arrived. I ordered taro and wintermelon milk tea. Rating it 2 stars because this last time I asked for an extra cup to split a large bubble tea for my kids and the owner wanted to charge me $1 for it. I told her I regularly come here and have bought many drinks from them (at ~$9 a pop) and she didn't seem to care and just said "it's policy". Well, as the owner, she *sets* the policy. They do it right here, giving you the option to dictate how much ice and sugar goes into your drink, and the next level add is not just fresh boba but pudding, my personal favorite. Delicious tea and food! I got the passion fruit tea with lychee jelly, and it was great! The only complaint was that it was a little too sweet for my liking, even though I got "little" sugar. I love coming to Chapel Hill for food and the vibes, and Tea Hill was no exception. It's a great little location to sit and relax at with friends and is in a nice area within Chapel Hill. The staff at the cash register are very nice and great with giving recommendations based on your preferences. They have a large variety of options as well which is great. The drinks themselves, however, leave a little something to be desired. I would say that the lychee green tea that I got was over sweet even with little sugar and definitely needed a stronger taste. I can't personally comment on any of the food since I didn't order any myself but thought it smelled good! It's been a while since I've visited this place, and they've since rebranded from Cha House to Tea Hill. They've also expanded their menu significantly, both food and drink. Back when I went to UNC, they were known for having the best and most authentic bubble tea on Franklin Street, and I think that still holds true, even with the increased competition. That being said, I've been disappointed with a few of my selections from here recently. I find that any of their flavored earl grey milk teas (lavender earl grey milk tea, peppermint earl grey milk tea, etc.) are overwhelmingly earl grey flavor and pretty much none of the secondary flavor at all. Their regular sugar level is also not very sweet, and their milk teas are on the watery side rather than creamy. I do like their fruit teas, though. This location is always packed and loud, so not really a great place for studying unless you have headphones. The interior is comfortable and decorated nicely, and the service has always been friendly. Parking can be difficult and you might have to utilize the parking lot behind the strip of Franklin Street it's located on. read more

I usually get a strawberry fruit tea or a strawberry matcha milk tea, but I try to branch out sometimes. Their boba has the perfect amount of sweetness and chewiness. Their food is also BUSSIN'! You can't go wrong with getting any of their rice plates and their ham & kimchi green onion pancakes make the perfect snack.
