You know you're in a solid Taiwanese spot when the speakers are blasting a piano cover of 童话 when you walk in. The decor and the smells are all reminiscent of my youth - kind of like that scene in Ratatouille where Ego takes his first bite and gets flashbacks. The thing is though, while everything is passably good, almost every dish or drink has something that is just off enough to miss the mark. For example, the braised pork bowl has lettuce and not cabbage and was quite oily. The popcorn chicken had no basil, and the boba was just lacking in depth. Overall, it's a spot I would really love to love - but it's just not offering quite enough to be on my list of go-to spots. I give this Quickly location in Chapel Hill three stars. It's OK. Quickly is one of the OG bubble tea chains. It was founded in 1996 and there are over 2,000 locations worldwide. At the time of writing this review, there are four locations in North Carolina. Three in the Triangle - Chapel Hill, Durham, and Morrisville - and one in Charlotte. This Chapel Hill location opened in the Meadowmont Village mixed-use development in July 2018. If you've never been to Meadowmont Village before, it's nice. Things I've noticed about Quickly compared to other large and well-known bubble tea chains over the past 10-15 years are the stores are inconsistent in terms of their branding and interior design, some of the cups are particularly cheap and flimsy, and the drinks aren't as good as they used to be because there's more competition - and a lot of it is better. All of those apply to this Quickly location Chapel Hill. For example, in the Triangle, for bubble tea, we prefer Moge Tee, but will come to this Quickly out of convenience. That said, this location isn't bad and it's certainly nice to have a legit bubble tea option in this part of Chapel Hill, which is a bubble tea desert, especially with the recent closing of nearby Meet Fresh. We've ordered a variety of drinks here - some, multiple times - including the Oolong Milk Tea (large, $5.00) with boba (+$0.50) and grass jelly (+$0.50), Passion Fruit Tea (large size only, $6.00), Mango Lava Tea (large size only, $6.50) with mango popping boba (+$0.50), and Three Guys Milk Tea (large size only, $6.00) with boba, grass jelly, and egg pudding (all three toppings included) at various sugar and ice levels. In general, the tea flavor has been good, but the quality of the toppings has been lacking. For example, the boba has been bland and mushy and the grass jelly (one of my favorite toppings) texture has been strange/off and it's left an unusual aftertaste. One reason I'm giving this Quickly three stars is because other Quickly locations I've been to have made better-tasting drinks overall. My wife disagrees, though, so like all reviews, take this one with a grain of salt. Service has been fine. I like the interior seating and decor here. It's cute, relatively spacious, and feels a bit more homey than your typical bubble tea joint. The Tolix (or Tolix-style) chairs are comfortable. They have limited outdoor sidewalk seating as well. Favorite boba spot in the area for sure! Never had a drink from there that I didn't like and the food is just as good. The New York style Korean Fried Chicken is insanely delicious and for sure a must try. They also have bowls and bao with different meat options. As well as other street food appetizers like musubi, takoyaki, fries and fried items like fish balls, calamari, tofu, etc. We typically get fruit or milk teas but they also have snow smoothies, slushies, and crema tea. Service has always been fast. The inside is super cute and a great place to study/work, spend time with loved ones, or just relax. I've been visiting here every summer when we come down to North Carolina and every time this place refuses to disappoint. Service is always very local and kind. Popcorn chicken and dumplings are incredible and the snows and tea. These teas and snows are phenomenal the Oreos now is so good it's just a perfect sweat Oreo treat and the teas are great as well. Me and 2 other family members ordered a taro milk boba tea, Thai tea, and a mango tea along with food. This was over $40 worth of items. The boba was unimpressive and bland, but the mango tea was the worst. It tasted like sipping perfume out of a bottle. When I politely asked if we could exchange it (this was a $6 drink!!) he said "no, you bought the tea." I then asked if he could at least add more sweetener. So it took literally forever for me to come out with my one drink, which tasted like a pretty typical Quickly standard (mediocre), the Viet Iced Coffee, it was. And I'm definitely happy to give them 4 stars. I don't love Quickly products at all but occasionally I find one where I give them 5 and if I was rating for service alone I would definitely give this lady 5, even though it took a while, because she is so very friendly. Overall I give a 4, but she has a heart of gold and I would definitely come back here again when I'm in Chapel Hill, because it's not like there's a lot of great Boba around here - although Cha House is on another level and one of the best in the whole country. Tl;dr: This is the spot for familiar boba, and asian food/snacks. Looked up a boba and snack shop in the CH area and this was the most popular option. Went in and ordered a slushy boba and Taiwanese popcorn chicken. The lychee slushy boba was very flavorful. If you have ever eaten lychee jellies (my fav was freezing them first), then this is a drinkable version of that. Sweet, fruity, and cold. The boba were standard, but I wasn't looking for any more sweetness in the boba since the slushy was already sweet. The Taiwanese popcorn chicken was my favorite. This is a nice and clean boba tea shop that serves boba tea. However, I had really high expectations which is probably why I was a little bit disappointed. The tapioca pearls were a little hardened, probably because of all the ice in there even though I asked for "less ice." The tea in the premium milk tea wasn't very detectable, and the milk tasted like it was made from milk powder. Their popcorn chicken is good and they make it fresh, which is great but do expect a bit of a wait. I was hoping to try their pork buns and poke bowls, but that food actually isn't available yet. In terms of this as a study spot: the space itself is good because there is a lot of natural light and lots of outlets with good wifi, but unfortunately the one thing I couldn't stand was the oil in the air probably from frying the popcorn chicken.... I have ordered Taiwanese style pork over rice, Hawaiian style tofu over rice, fried chicken, and sweet potato fries. The Hawaiian tofu over rice is the worst among the pack, but it's still meeting my expectation. The fried tofu on rice is crisp and the sides are spot on. The fried chicken and fries are both well seasoned. The fried chicken has the right amount of salt and pepper mixed to it; the fries has some tomato flavored spices to it. The Taiwanese style pork over rice is the best in the order, very ethinitic. The price performance is great and the service is on par with other fast food Chinese restaurants. I am originally from Raleigh (which seriously lacks any good Asian food for a reasonable price) and I was happy to be able to stop by this shop in our way back from my day trip. Originally I was just going to try a milk tea, but I saw a picture of their popcorn chicken and takoyaki (grilled octopus balls) that I had to try. I tried the panda boba tea, delicious and refreshing. They don't overload on the ice either so it won't be too watered down. Reasonable amount of tapioca bubbles too. The popcorn chicken was great, I feel like it could have been a little more crunchy, but overall, it was tasty and cooked well. Definitely good for a snack to share or almost as a meal for yourself if you choose to. The takoyaki was cooked well to perfection. Cooking octopus is tricky because it gets rubbery if you cook it for too long, but I didn't have a problem with Quickly. I will warn that it's like a pizza roll, it will be molten hot in the inside and can burn your mouth if you aren't careful so make sure you take a small bite to let it cool off properly. Overall, if you want to get a filling snack and refreshing drink, it's a decent place to try. I'll have to come back and get the popcorn chicken in the spicy option. I think the wings might have been delicious but no where on the Quickly website nor the Uber eats website, was there a discussion on how spicy these chicken wings are. I am ECSTATIC that there is finally a Quickly near UNC campus! I previously had to venture to Morrisville for my boba fix. At your first visit to this location you might be overwhelmed by the amount of activities or restaurants in Meadowmont Village! Rest assured, Quickly is truly unique in its variety of milk tea/snow flavors, add-ins, and appetizers. I ordered the coffee milk tea with regular boba and finally the void in my soul was filled. However, I will be back shortly to have the Oreo milk tea with boba! I did knock off a star for taking a while to provide the fried tofu I ordered, but they compensated me with an order of fries. I'm so lucky to live near this place. I come here so often the staff already recognizes me. There's one very polite employee who will come out and wave hi if he's working to make drinks and not at the register. He's super nice! I buy the popcorn chicken more often than I should. It's super flavorful and I love the texture. And I live in walking distance so uh why not go there sometimes more than once a week???? I also get the same thing every time because I am a creature of habit and it is hotter than the surface of the sun right now. I NEED a slushie. I like it in the watermelon flavor with the passion fruit popping boba. Great combination. Their drinks are made from powder so don't get your hopes up! Matcha mille crepes ($7) - 3 stars The crepes are chewy rather than delicate and the cream used is low-quality - it's greasy. Decent, pretty strong matcha flavour though. Ambience - 2 stars There's good wifi and outlets are easily available but the place smells strongly of stale oil (for the popcorn chicken probably).
