The place definitely has good tea but the actually store front needs so renovations. The service was friendly but we were also the only ones in the store. If they would update the store the prices would be justified.

First, I think it's important to note that this place is nice and clean! The person who helped me wore gloves and a mask! Second, they have so many options for loose leaf tea. The person who helped me determine which teas and blends would work best for energy and focus as well as resting and sleeping. One thing that I bought was Darjeeling and it is definitely a very high quality! It's not lacking in those rich rainy day flavors that Darjeeling is known for. Lastly, make sure you get out to support this place even if you are not big into tea. The owner use to be a manager at Starbucks and he bravely ventured out on his own to start this business! They have two locations, Fair Oaks Mall and DuPont Circle. Go go go!

    Almond Bubble Tea

En route to Spa Logic north of Dupont Circle, my friend and I stumbled upon the Tea Mansion on Connecticut Avenue. The street board advertised "bubble tea," which always catches our eye. While the bubble tea here isn't as sweet as elsewhere, the ingredients are natural, and the flavor variety are more plentiful. Don't expect bubble tea of the standard variety. Despite this difference, we were pleasantly surprised by how good it was--albeit different. While there is a small seating area in the shop, the business seems to focus mainly on the sale of fine teas and both fine and fun whimsical tea ware. Stop by and try out a sample. There are a number of items here that would make great gifts.

    Mansion chai bubble tea

I have mixed feelings. TL;DR: Don't go for the bubble tea. I'm sure the other steeped tea is probably great (just not for bubble tea). I was walking by and saw the sign for bubble tea.. so I thought since I'm so thirsty, what better to quench my thirst with than some bubble tea from a shop dedicated to tea! I eventually was able to place my order - its a one-man shop, so he was running out to pour some more tea for folks sitting outside so it took a second to place my order. Anyway, I had the pick of the litter, so I ordered the mansion chai. It was recommended as a tea shop favorite and I was already considering a chai so I went for this one. The gentleman steeped the tea, once done, poured it over ice in a plastic cup, added in a little bit of boba (tapioca balls) from an instant pot/rice warmer, and had some non-dairy creamer. The bubble tea was not my favorite. It tasted really watery (perhaps because the tea was hot and poured over ice?), then the boba was really bland (with barely any boba in such a huge cup), and the milk creamer was kind of chalky. I LOVE bubble tea and will try different ones whenever I can, but this was just not my cup of tea (ha ha?). I've tried the loose leaf tea in years past and its been tasty, I think this might just be the shop trying to branch out a little more than they are able to? Perhaps there just needs to be some tweaking on the boba front? I'm all about support local businesses so obviously I'll buy tea here when it makes sense, but I think I'll just stick to the loose leaf (hot) tea.

The sandwiches (we got cucumber, chicken salad, and egg salad) were just ok, but scones were suprisingly delicious! They were warm and buttery, and not too dry. The chocolate croissant was boring and stale, and the pistachio macaron's texture was good but tasted a bit artificial. The passionfruit panna cotta was so good - creamy and perfectly tart. It was my favorite from the list. I also really enjoyed their teas - my cousin got the masala chai and I got the apricot oolong. Both were super delicious, and I would definitely choose the masala chai again. The flavor and spices were perfect. The service was decent and they were pretty quick to bring out the tea and snacks. Overall, I recommend Lady Camellia for a more budget-friendly option for afternoon tea.

Service - 1 Star Ambience - 4 stars…read more Price/value - 1 Star Flavors - 3 stars I had high hopes for this place, but it sadly missed the mark. Its location facing the water is great, but the space is way too cramped and the tables are overcrowded with flatware, sweeteners, condiments, and china. While I never expected the same level of tea service I've experienced in London, I was shocked at the dangerously inexperienced staff, who I watched pour boiling hot tea into the lap of one of our guests not once but twice while trying to set down the teapot. The nearly $80 pricetag is hardly justifiable for hot water and carbs in a cramped setting. This is a cute spot that evokes an American Girl Cafe with a view, but it would do well to better train staff to clear space on the table before trying to set down a full teapot or tiered serving stand and teach them to hold spouts away from customers who are mostly women clad in very thin, delicate dresses.

The service is a bit slow by modern standards, but well worth the wait, and we passed our time pleasantly. Unlike many tea houses, they have more than just one option for tea--there is an actual menu with several excellent options. You can also order a la carte. Their traditional tea options are very satisfying--wonderful scones. Loved the cucumber sandwiches and the Branston & cheddar! First time I ever encountered Branston, we ran out and bought some. We already returned once and will certainly go again.

Deliciousness - 3/5 Happiness - 3.5/5…read more A picturesque tea house in a quaint little town, we had a good Mother's Day outing there. There are a ton of tea flavors there and they let you smell them all before ordering. Although there is a full sandwich and entrée menu, we all went with the tea experience that came with tea, soup, scones, and finger sandwiches. The tea lived up to the billing and was mighty tasty - although only about 2-3 cups in each teapot (I feel like it should have been 4-5). The scones were uniformly delicious (my fave was the birthday cake scone), while the sandwiches were just OK. The bread on each sandwich overwhelmed the fillings/meat, so I just didn't get a ton of flavor. The service left a bit to be desired. We kept getting different servers, and that seemed to result in some confusion (i.e., being asked multiple times what we ordered, and food and tea coming out at different times). They missed an order completely, and the service was slow. They then asked us to leave as they needed to sit the next large group. No problem there as it clearly stated that the tea service had a time limit, but the only reason we hit it was because of the slow service and the need to fix orders (i.e., one whole person's tea service didn't come out with everyone else's). Also, the server said mimosas were half off but only after we ordered, did they say the half off didn't apply on Mother's Day! Overall, I'd go back again. The tea was excellent! But perhaps with a smaller group?

It's so close to the White House and the Washington monument so we were able to take in some sights while we were here. The cherry trees were in bloom and this balmy spring day was gorgeous! Parking was a breeze despite our reservations that we'd have trouble parking, but no, we were right out front! This tearoom is truly set up like an alley... a long hall with tables on either side, beautifully elegant and meticulously appointed from the beautiful chandelier light fixtures to the patterned carpet to the brocade bluish green wallpaper and the along the stairs some peacock wallpaper! We ooohed and aaahed with every step! The cherry branches stood tall in the Asian inspired planters along the tables and vases with tulips graced each table setting. As we entered we were offered a cranberry cocktail (or mocktail) drink with fresh rosemary and presented with an amuse-bouche which was quite amusing. Along with the other tiered items were the delectable scones with lemon curd, clotted cream, and jams, several savories including a cucumber finger sandwich, and open faced roast beef toast, and a chicken salad roll (also a salmon tart which I didn't care for). There were also tea cookies, a scrumptious meringue puff, and a chocolate truffle. All exquisite. The tea menu was extensive and I chose the Willard Signature Blend with rose petals, bergamot, and orange peel and we also had the Darjeeling. As we sipped and stirred and nibbled and chatted, our cares melted away as we savored each morsel. At the end of our meal, we were delighted with champagne to top off the afternoon! The tea service was brilliant with gold edged plates and teacups, a silver tea strainer, & bright white teapots. The harpist played gently in the background as we enjoyed our marvelous tea time ... and the service was impeccable! Worth every pretty penny! The hotel was so grand and we took a little tour after we finished our tea! A memorable event which made an everlasting impression!

I've been to some bad afternoon teas, overhyped afternoon teas and some really great afternoon teas. Peacock Alley at the Willard Intercontinental is one of those great afternoon teas. I went on a Saturday during their 12PM seating. Tea and accompaniments are served over 90 minutes and costs $90 or $110 with a glass of champagne. This price is comparable to not only similar afternoon teas in the DC area, but also higher end afternoon teas in London. Peacock Alley has a wide selection of black, green, white, herbal and Roobios tea. It also comes with a mix of sweet and savory accompaniments including scones, ginger sandwiches and pastries. They were very accommodating with my request for no nuts and were very knowledgeable about all of the items served with tea. While you are only given 90 minutes I never felt rushed and was able to enjoy my tea and snacks. The ambiance in the tea room is amazing. They have soft harp music playing, the tables are arranged with ample space between them so you never feel that you are too close to other guests or those in your party, and the flatware accompanying tea is good quality. The service was quick and efficient and they were more than happy to accommodate someone in my party who was running late. There are a lot of afternoon teas at this price point around the city and this is one that is actually worth it. They also have a tea to-go service where you can enjoy the same food and tea at home for a slightly cheaper price. Overall I enjoyed my experience at the Willard Tea room and would definitely recommend it as one of the better upscale afternoon teas in the city.

The white glove service, super crisp clean and whimsical ambiance, mixed with an array of interesting treats made for an incredible experience. Even if you don't know anything about tea, the servers there are super knowledgeable and will guide you through the process. Starting with the hand towel (so cool!) you begin feeling relaxed and refreshed. I chose to start off with the Gen Maicha, which had a delightful popcorn taste I couldn't get enough of! For my cocktail, I chose a simple bubby rose', but my friends said their cherry blossom flavored tea inspired cocktail was amazing. As you can see, they did not cut any corners with the high tea treats, which ranged from savory to sweet. The peppery pink spread for the scone was one of my favorites. The playfulness of the colors, perfection of the shapes, and subtle but perfect flavors all engaged the senses. I cannot wait to return. For the price point, this high tea was incredible. Felt bougie for the day and burned a hole in my wallet but it was well worth the experience. Definitely need to try at least once.
