Tea with Tracy is an amazing spot in downtown Seymour. The owners, Tracy and Joel, are incredibly friendly and genuinely invested in their customers' experience. They have an ungodly selection of tea and tea paraphernalia for tea nerds like myself, and are super helpful for those who might find the number of choices daunting. The ambiance is great, as is the food: they have baked goods, salads and sandwiches, and weekend brunch which is amazing. They host awesome events and classes like Downton Abbey themed dinners and baby/bridal showers and have a large, well-appointments room that can be rented out. If you love tea or just want a nice place to relax with friends, go there. There is literally no reason to buy your tea anywhere else...and you'll be supporting an amazing local business! My mum and oldest sisters were born in England and are British citizens. I'm a duel citizen myself and studied in England. This is a decent American attempt at English tea. If they used loose leaf tea rather than tea bags, it would be more convincing. They didn't provide proper tea spoons...only the small spoons for the food items. The food was fine. Not terrible. Not great. The service was equal parts slow (to take my order) and rushed (while actually taking the order) despite there only being a few others there. Would I go back again? Sure, but only with those who won't notice the bits that are off. So basically American friends who want to play pretend, but not any of my British family or friends. read more

Tea with Tracy recently offered a great Groupon deal that I just couldn't resist. The deal was Afternoon Tea for Two and a tin of tea for each guest to take home for $21. Can't beat that so I decided to treat my mom to afternoon tea on a rainy Saturday. Tea with Tracy is on Bank Street in Seymour, nestled among some cute antique and boutique stores. Parking is available on the street only, but we didn't have any issues finding a close spot and there were no meters to worry about. If you can't find any spots on the street there are a few lots close by. My mother and I really enjoyed our experience at Tea with Tracy and we'd both go back again. We were seated at a table for two in the corner between two large windows, which was perfect. I love the natural lighting the place gets from the windows. The inside is cozy and comfortable. As I mentioned, we did the Afternoon Tea for Two which allowed us to select two scones, two types of tea sandwiches and two desserts. We picked one cinnamon chai scone, one herb scone, chicken salad and cucumber mint for our sandwiches and chocolate chip cookies and the daily special, pumpkin cupcake with cream cheese frosting, for dessert. We both selected the Almond Sugar Cookie tea. We both loved the tea! The scones were pretty good, we both didn't love the herb scone but that was really just our taste buds, nothing against the preparation, just a little too herby for us, if you like savory scones I am sure you'd love it. The cinnamon chai scone was good, a little chewy but great flavor. The sandwiches were both great. There was something unique and so tasty about the chicken salad sandwich, I can't put my finger on it. The cucumber mint sandwich was refreshing, it had cucumbers and cream cheese with fresh mint mixed in. The chocolate chip cookies were good, but a little well for my taste, I wished they were softer but the flavor was there. The pumpkin cupcake, on the other hand, was to die for. That thing was perfect. It had just the right balance of sweet and spice and the cream cheese frosting was the perfect compliment. The portion size was perfect for two and we left satisfied and happy! Service was great. The owner Tracy was there and so friendly. It's always so wonderful to see the owner, you can tell she was very proud of her tea room and she has reason to be! When we were leaving we also met the owner's husband who was equally friendly and happy to hear our feedback. He asked if we'd come again and we said we sure would! Besides the owner our waitress was a young teenage girl who was very friendly. She did not introduce herself so I have no idea what her name is, but she was welcoming and nice. When she brought the tea out she asked if we wanted milk or half and half and my mother asked for milk but never got it. Not a big deal because my mom said she enjoyed her tea without it so she didn't bother to follow up. They were pretty busy (maybe the Groupon?) so it was understandable and nothing big. With our deal we got to select two tins of tea to take with us. I chose Black Currant and my mom selected the English Breakfast. They have a huge retail selection of teas so even if you're running around with no time to stop and enjoy a tea in house you can always pick up some to go! We we were picking out the teas and were talking to one of the owners we got a glimpse of the kitchen and my mom commented on how exceptionally clean it was. Always a great sign! Overall, I was really happy with my afternoon tea at Tea with Tracy and I am sure I will be back. The tea for two is a reasonable price at just $25 (not including the take home tea that was in the Groupon deal but everything else) and perfect for an afternoon out. I think this would be a great place for a kid's birthday party or a bridal shower (which they do host). They have a nice selection of tea, scones, sandwiches and desserts so there's something for everyone. They even have a kids menu with peanut butter and jelly/fluff/Nutella you name it. So if you find yourself in the valley or if you are looking for a nice treat head to Tea with Tracy, you won't be disappointed. The owners are wonderfully friendly and I wish them nothing but success. Tea With Tracy is the most perfect place! It is beautiful and quaint like a traditional little tea room you'd find in the suburbs, but without the over-the-top antiquey, kitchy stuff you usually find. It has the perfect balance of simple, pretty, modern elegance. The food (and tea!) is fabulous and Joel and Tracy (the owners) could not be nicer or more helpful! Their daughters that work there are wonderful too. We had a bridal shower for 20 people there this past Sunday (3/18/12) and everything went perfectly. We had their new separate space all to ourselves and we had a buffet of finger sandwiches, salad, and scones, along with a 2-cup pot of tea for each lady! (Try the Royal Wedding Tea, it's amazing!) When I needed last-minute cardboard and scissors and tape (for the bride's bow hat of course), they came to the rescue. They wrapped up all the leftovers for us to take home (unusual!) and were just great. We came early to do a little bit of decorating and put favors out and it was not a problem, we had the space to ourselves the whole afternoon. I would give this place 5 stars for the tea selection. It's a bit overwhelming how many teas they offer. They also have coffee and different hot chocolates. They have a nice little menu with tasty tea sandwiches, scones, crumpets, cakes, and cookies. My 89 year old grandmother and 78 year old aunt were very disappointed that they had sold all of the scones at 3pm on a Sunday. They didn't understand how that was possible considering it's a tea place known for scones. I tend not to be so hard on something like this b/c things like this do happen. And the waitress was super sweet and very apologetic. She explained it hadn't happened before and kept apologizing b/c she knew my little ladies were disappointed. But she never checked with the kitchen. She could have asked (or even made believe to ask) if there was anyway to make more scones but she didn't. Again, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal but after we ate the other food we ordered (in place of not having the scones) the waitress came back and said "We just found that we have 4 scones left in the kitchen" WTH! If she had checked before engaging in a 5 minutes conversation about the kitchen running out of scones and before serving other food items my Nanny and her sister would have had a more positive experience. My aunt only ordered tea b/c she had her heart set on a scone. My grandmother and I ordered a few things which came out on plates separately. I thought they would come out on one of those 3 tier platters b/c isn't that what a tea place is about?! Either way we did enjoy our goodies. We had a cucumber mint tea sandwich (perfect), a brie cranberry tea sandwich, a chocolate chip pecan cookie (tasty), and the star of the show a little slice of heaven - the most amazing super moist pineapple coffee cake. DAMN, 5 stars for the cake. So why did I only give 3 stars?! 3 reasons: they ran out of scones but really had a few left in the back which we didn't know about until after we were almost done with our food, the presentation (separate plates instead of a 3 tiered platter; and when I asked for honey with my tea they gave me a plastic honey bear!), and the girls at the front when we first walked in were a bit short with my grandmother. At this point I've been here a bunch of times. As always, the food was very good and the service was quick. I had an order of the strawberry waffles, home fries, and a pot of caramel apple tea. Everything was tasty, my only slight criticism of the food was that the home fries had a very strong rosemary/herb taste that I'm not quite used to. Still good though. Our party of 2 did not have a reservation but they accommodated us anyway which i appreciate. I decided to treat my parents to Sunday tea this past weekend, but as I looked at my groupon it had just expired the day before. I called the location and told them what happened and at first she said I could use the value. I asked again if I could use it for the deal and she agreed as long as I came in that day, and she promptly gave me an appt. So far so good! Having never been to the area, we got there an hour early to explore, and we were so happy we did!! There are at least 5 antique shops with such charm. We felt we even needed more than an hour to walk them all but I wanted to go to Tracy's. Upon arrival, our waitress brought us to the room on the left and sat us right under the AC. Within 5 mins she came back to give us the menus and about 10-12 mins later is when she came and checked on us. :-/ So the groupon was for four ppl but last minute out 4th person couldn't make it so she happily offered to pack their items! That was nice of her, but the soup of the day was chicken soup. Being that I could only go that day I couldn't choose what day/ what soup as they have only one"soup of the day". Anyway, my parents and I only eat halal/kosher chicken so I asked if we could substitute it with something else ( such as a dessert item which was cheaper than the soup). I tried my luck but the waitress said no, which was disappointing! Not sure why they couldn't substitute to a cheaper item but moving on. So, our deal was one soup, one scone, one tea sandwich and two pots of tea. We tried one of each scone ( choc chip butterscotch, cherry almond, cranberry and garlic basil). The choc chip butterscotch was dry and stale tasting but the rest were pretty good. The tea sandwiches were all fine, (cucumber/mint, cranberry Brie and egg salad- they offer chicken salad sandwich too but we didnt get that) I especially liked the cranberry Brie. Now the teas!!! The royal wedding tea was out of this world! So light and yummy! I would def come back just for that. The other tea we ordered was something along the lines of green tea coconut and I think mango? I can't remember exactly but I do know I didn't like it! Too strong. It's a cute place- mismatched chairs, mismatched tea cups/ plates. Love that the menu is in a small frame on the table and is so broad. For example they list "scone" on the menu then they have a chalkboard stating what the options for that day are. The tea menu is a little overwhelming to be honest. Two full jam packed pages of teas were pretty confusing! It's a novel place to have high tea. There are not many places in CT where one can have scones and tea with clotted cream, and cucumber sandwiches, so this is the next best thing. I have been here several times with my daughters. It's an adorable tea room with a huge selection of teas. The finger sandwiches are delicious and the deserts are always good. I would recommend the afternoon tea to get the full experience and sample a scone, sandwich and dessert. You will most likely end up too full for your dessert but you can take it to go. Sandwiches were very nice, tea wasn't exactly piping hot (need to warm the pot first then use boiling water poured onto the tea) but then came the scones and desserts. I really didn't think it was possible to have such dense, rubber textured scones but that's what we got. No jam. Just butter and some dreadful concoction that is described in the menu as "Devonshire Cream" but in reality is just whipped cream with vanilla extract and a bit of confectioners sugar. Most disappointing not to mention kinda fraudulent. The desserts were just as disappointing and hardly what you might call dainty. Dense, heavy apple torte and a massive square of carrot cake and a couple of boring looking cookies. Couldn't eat them. But it is a wonderful addition to downtown Seymour. My issue is the staff. Well, the owners (husband and wife) actually. They aren't very friendly. And in the hospitality business they should be. I have visited this place at least a half dozen times and they are always very blase. They should take a lesson from their daughters who are quite nice and very helpful. Such a cute place for brunch/afternoon tea! Everything is super girly and charming. My two friends and I shared an afternoon tea set and added a cup of soup and it was extremely filling. (I probably could have done without the soup.) I had the cheddar bacon scone, curry chicken salad tea sandwiches, and carrot cake for my dessert, and I believe the soup that day was cream of spinach. Thank you so very much for the kindness you showed to both me and my family on Saturday (9/22). My cousin has ALS, limited mobility & uses a wheelchair. Unfortunately, there is not a handicapped entrance into 'Tea With Tracy'.... the owner along with a young gentleman (employee) wanted to help and proceeded to pick up my cousin/in wheelchair (with her blessings) and bring her into the restaurant! Victoria, our waitress, who we also found out later is the daughter of the owner, could not have been nicer! She was very knowledgeable with regard to all items on the menu (and all the questions we had!) and was a pleasure to speak with. The same courtesy (picking up wheelchair and bringing her out) was shown to my cousin when we were leaving the restaurant without us even having to ask. Just got back from a Downton Abbey themed dinner here ...this is such a cute place!!! I used to go to tea rooms as a kid, but never appreciated the charm. The food was really good, started with savory scones, Caesar salad, and stuffed mushrooms. Chicken pot pie with a puff pastry was my meal and it was well done . Also, there were over 100 teas to choose from. The owner, Tracy, came around to each table at the end of the event to see how everything was, which is always a nice touch! What a delicious little gem, a new discovery in my own backyard. My husband and I were looking around at local options for lunch, and stumbled across Tea with Tracy, which is just off the beaten path. We were lucky that they could accommodate us without a reservation--at 1pm on a Tuesday, the place was hopping! We had an absolutely lovely server who was attentive and friendly without overdoing it. We had afternoon tea, sampling scones (lemon blueberry, delicious, dense and still warm), tea sandwiches (cranberry & brie, which was delightful, and classic chicken salad, which was truly delicious), and desserts (my husband thoroughly enjoyed his apple torte, my carrot cake was moist and spicy and thickly frosted--heaven!). And of course, there's the tea to talk about. Over 100 varieties of tea to choose from! My husband is a purist and drank Irish Breakfast, but I was pining for my time in England and drank Black Currant flavored black tea. The whole experience was delightful and leisurely--we never felt rushed. In fact, we chose to linger a bit longer over a second pot of tea each, and could have cheerfully spent the whole afternoon in the sunny tearoom. So charming and delicious, we can't wait to go back. I have been coming to Tea With Tracy since they opened. My cousin and I stumbled upon the shop when we were walking through Seymour one day. We fell in love at first site. The decor is fabulous - simple yet tasteful. Not too girly like one might imagine. The tea menu is enormous. You can order your own pot or share one. I tend to try something new each time. My usual food menu choices are the blueberry lemon scone, cucumber mint tea sandwich, and the Swedish brownie. The servers have always had a positive attitude. They are knowledgeable about tea and make wonderful suggestions if you're stuck. It is a family business that seems to, based on my observations, bond one another instead of stressing everyone out. The owner, Tracy, has, on most occasions, stopped by my table to ask if we are enjoying ourselves. Tea With Tracy is located in the heart of Seymour's antiques district. This is a beneficial location for the shop because it compliments the area so well. Parking is street parking -- however there is ample room and I have never had trouble finding a spot. Since opening, they have added a private back room for parties. One of my friends held her bridal shower there per my recommendation, and she loved it! Tea With Tracy on occasion holds scone baking classes. I've never been to one, but will most certainly attend one in the future. Prices are better than Starbucks or your local deli. Anyone on a budget can stop in. However, I suggest indulging in their items for sale :) I highly recommend traveling out of your way to visit Tea With Tracy. read more

Embarrassed, Disgusted, and Never to Return I've been coming here for over 4 years to celebrate birthdays, holidays and just to relax. Food is always delicious! But yesterday was like no other. I had my reservation for 12:00 for my annual Christmas holiday lunch with my girlfriend and we were on time. We come here about 4 times a year because we love the food and the ambiance. It was crowded which I hadn't expected for a Friday. We were seated right away and were told by waitress #1 that she would be back in a few minutes to take our order. So we made our selections, gave them back to her in 5 minutes because we felt we were being rushed. She came back right away to tell us the soup we chose had changed. We said OK. Within another 5-10 minutes our lunch was served. During the next half hour the waitress kept coming back asking us if everything was OK and we said yes. Then by about 1:15 our bill was placed on our table. Then about 1:30 she came back again to take it and we said we weren't ready. We asked if we could have more water and that we needed a container for our food. That never happened. In between all this, another rude waitress #2 came by asking for our payment saying she had people waiting for our table. We said we were waiting for our water and a container to take our food home. The water and the container finally came. As we were opening our gifts to one another getting ready to leave (this is about 2:00), they then sent over the cook to ask us to leave. I have never been more embarrassed and treated so obnoxiously by a restaurant as this. Sorry Tracy! We will never bother you again with our business! While your food is delicious, your manners are less than desirable. Just a suggestion. When a customer makes a reservation and it is for a busy time of the year, you might want to tell them at that time they only have 1 to 1 1/2 hours to enjoy their food! read more
