Yes, this is the oldest Martial Arts school in Nevada from back in the 50's and it has a lot of history. I came back in the late 90's to train seriously. I've been active ever since. It's a traditional Japanese based jiu-jitsu school and they have a donation based - nonprofit pricing structure that is very affordable. To top that off, the blackbelts are some of the most knowledgeable in the area. Typically, more knowledgeable than the for profit schools in the Reno/Sparks area. There is a good family atmosphere, it's not a "cage fighting school" or "sport BJJ school" but it does have some serious training taking place. I couldn't be happier with the years of traditional jiu-jitsu training that I got here. I give this school an easy 5 stars.

I am a longtime martial artist, with more than 30 years of practicing my hand to hand hobby. This school and its people are far and away the best community for learning martial arts that I have ever been in. This dojo is of the Takemusu Aikido strain of Aikido. It emphasizes a structured approach to learning with a clear curriculum that integrates empty-handed and wooden weapons training. The term Takemusu signifies spontaneously created and employed martial techniques with a huge emphasis on flowing and effective movements. I've been learning and playing at this dojo for more than eight years now. There are always a few open to the public classes every month, so why not come out and learn and play with us. The classes she attends are a mix of all levels. They all help each other out. The sensei is great with the kids but strict when he needs to be. I like the attention to detail and he talks to people throughout the class to give feedback. He also comes over to the area we watch from to ask if there is anything we feel he needs to work on, even if it is just behavior or habits. Having something my daughter looks forward to doing is great.

We were invited to our friends son's birthday over the weekend which is the greatest idea for kids…read moreparty! We pulled up to the facility and my husband had told me it was previously a boxing gym he used to work out at so he was familiar with the place. As we walked in, we were greeted and was advised to fill out a liability form. There are no shoes allowed on the mats, so there was definitely a smell of shoes, socks, feet (similar to walking into Chuck E. Cheese in the 90's) area but as you walk in further in the smell dissipates. We were advised not to play on the boxing ring, which was ok but everything else was open! The best things that I loved was that they offered activities for the kids to do: tug a war, obstacle course, and nerf gun playtime! I noticed the instructors of the gym were interacting with the kids whether it was being chased with nerf guns or playing tug a war. They were teaching some kids how to properly kick! They also allow outside food advising food may be eaten on the green turf/carpet area. 90 minutes of play time and 30 minutes of food time is perfect! This is definitely a great option for birthdays to get kids energy out in a safe environment!

There are usually two classes everyday, so it accommodates many schedules. All of the instructors are high knowledgeable and extremely helpful. They are also very good teachers. It's one thing to just be a good athlete and it's a totally different thing to be able to transfer your knowledge to someone else. They are very good at teaching techniques and actually demonstrating them. Another great part of this gym is the other students. There's a wide variety of skill levels and body types. They are all willing to work with you and give you pointers. No egos, but a lot of high level competitors are training in the gym. I would say if you have any interest in Jiu Jitsu to just come in and watch a class. If you like what you see they'll let you try a class or two. I'm sure you'll find it's an awesome place to train, just like I have.
