I couldn't have asked for better therapist and person to bring into my life during the most difficult of times. From our very first session, it's like it was meant to be. She was so incredibly understanding and compassionate. She basically held my hand through all the steps I had to go through, that Capone and I had to go through together. She stood by our side for a year. She guided me, emotionally and spiritually. She taught me how to think rationally when making tough decisions, she celebrated our small wins, she talked to me through the darkest of times, all the vet visit, radiation treatments, times filled with tears and guilt. She honored the bond Capone and I have. She helped me stay strong. she taught me to write down what I was feeling, she showed me techniques to get through moments when I would be alone. she constantly checked in and made sure I kept in touch. She held space and even cried with me. And after everything was all said and done, she was still right there, spiritually and emotionally by Capone and my side. She has so much experience with animals both in the veterinary field and as a fur mama herself. I could not have asked for anyone better to be by my side, to share Capone and my journey with. I am forever grateful, and truly honored to have met her. She has a very special gift and an even more beautiful heart. I couldn't recommend her enough. This is exactly what she was born to do. To Cara, Today, 4.16.24, marks the one year anniversary since Capone transitioned. I just wanted to reach out and tell you I am forever grateful for all of your love and support through that really hard time. Thank you for showing up for Capone and I, thank you for selflessness, thank you for your patience, thank you for your understanding. Thank you for your beautiful heart and thank you for being the incredible friend you are! Couldn't have done it without you! Sending all the love and hugs your way! LOVE YOU

Based on knowing the breed's challenging traits, the vet used effective techniques to handle my shiba and successfully completed the task at hand. The vet spent quite a bit of time in the examination room getting to know my dog, to get my dog acclimated and to stay calm. Great and thorough communication with the staff all around, from the front desk to the intake and examination. Literally, a weight has been lifted off my shoulders regarding a veterinary clinic that knows how to handle a shiba inu and that my dog's needs are met. Thank you so very much Animal Hospital

I rarely leave negative reviews, but after losing my male eastern indigo snake, "Indica", I feel…read moreobligated to share my experience so other exotic pet owners can make an informed decision. I brought Indica to Animal Hospital of Sebastopol because I specifically wanted an experienced reptile veterinarian for a federally threatened species. Before scheduling, I asked how the urgent drop-off process worked and was told I would receive updates during the day regarding the doctor's findings and treatment recommendations. I also asked to make sure the vet felt comfortable treating a rare & valuable species. When I dropped him off, I explained that I work in healthcare as a medical receptionist and cannot answer phone calls while checking in patients. I specifically told the staff I would be available during my lunch break from 12:20-1:20 p.m. and asked that, outside of that window, they leave me a voicemail or send me a text if they needed anything. Instead, I received no communication at all. By around 4:15 p.m., I became worried enough to step away from work while a coworker covered my desk so I could call the hospital. I was placed on hold multiple times, transferred between staff members, and no one could tell me whether my snake had even been seen. My frustration was never that emergency patients came first. I understand triage. My frustration was the complete lack of communication despite being told I would receive updates and despite providing multiple ways to reach me. I was also charged for sexing my snake without anyone telling me beforehand there would be an additional fee. That charge was only removed after I questioned it. When I spoke with Dr. Annabelle, I repeatedly told her that I appreciated her fitting my snake into her schedule and understood emergency patients came first. I was never asking her to stop treating another patient. However, when I expressed concerns about the lack of communication and told her I did not believe this was simply a bad shed, I felt dismissed. The conversation focused on how she sees approximately 15 patients a day, that she couldn't interrupt anesthetized procedures for a stable snake, that this is how urgent drop-off appointments work, and that she texted me "when she could." The problem was that the text wasn't sent until after I had already called the hospital because I was worried and couldn't get answers from anyone. Afterward, I emailed the practice manager. The billing discrepancy was corrected, but I had to follow up separately just to obtain my snake's records. I was then told they felt I should seek another veterinary hospital. As Indica's condition worsened, I emailed Animal Hospital of Sebastopol again asking for medical guidance because Dr. Annabelle was the only veterinarian who had physically examined him. I explained that I had followed the treatment plan exactly and desperately needed to know whether what I was seeing was expected. That email was never answered. I ultimately had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize Indica. The day after he was gone, UC Davis called asking my permission to send his records to Animal Hospital of Sebastopol because AHOS had requested them. It was devastating to learn they had time to contact another veterinary hospital regarding my snake's case while never responding to my final plea for help. I later received a second opinion from UC Davis, where I was informed that the original diagnosis from Animal Hospital of Sebastopol was not the correct diagnosis, just as I had predicted. Based on my experience, I would never trust Animal Hospital of Sebastopol with another exotic animal. If you own an exotic pet and your instincts tell you something isn't right, don't be afraid to seek a second opinion. I only wish I had done so sooner.

Dr. Bane's exam (March 2021) was comprehensive and well-beyond helpful. She noted that he had an undescended testicle (totally missed by the staff at a local corporately owned vet hospital, and by me), and spent lots of time offering much needed guidance about his diet -- including offering me a basic recipe that greatly improved upon his home-cooked meals and analyzing what vitamins and minerals should be added to make them optimal. Since I also feed him Carna4 kibble, she went over those ingredients thoroughly as well. As is common with doodles, my pup has a somewhat sensitive gut and itchy skin. When Animal Biome sent a detailed report on his microbiome, Dr. Bane spent half an hour of her own time (no charge to me) consulting with their microbiologist, and then spent lots of time (at a very reasonable cost) going over their report with me and making recommendations. She's been wonderfully accessible and thoughtful whenever I've needed guidance -- most recently about a minimally invasive approach to his cryptorchid neutering and gastropexy, and in a short time I've come to trust her completely. I'm very thankful we found our way to All Paws and especially to Dr. Bane!

When my older dog started struggling with arthritic joints, we decided to try acupuncture, and it truly turned things around. Before long, he was back to hopping onto his favorite spots -- the couch and the bed -- without any trouble. Seeing that kind of improvement meant everything to me. One thing I appreciate most is that I never once felt upsold. Dr. Rettig only recommended therapies she genuinely believed he needed, and that honesty and integrity are so refreshing. You can tell she truly cares about her patients and their quality of life. The entire staff has always been professional and kind, and everyone there is wonderful with humans too -- which matters so much. When my dog was diagnosed with untreatable cancer, Dr. Rettig helped give him the best months he possibly could have had. That gift of time, comfort, and dignity is something I'll always be grateful for. From our very first visit, she completely understood and intuited the needs of our sweet dog Jojo, and has kept her healthy and vibrant well into her "senior years" (I use quotation marks because Jojo is about 13 years old but is frequently mistaken for a puppy, given how youthful and energetic she is). I can't even begin to express what a tremendous gift it has been to feel secure that we can handle any health issues that come up for Jojo, with the support of Dr. Rettig and her team. We animal guardians love our little ones so much, and there's nothing worse than watching them suffer and not knowing how to help. Whenever I can surrender enough to completely hand over the assessment and decision making to Dr. Rettig, we always get a good outcome. On more than one occasion, we have seen resolution of an acute issue within 24 hours of our treatment session. It's been truly remarkable. Dr. Rettig is an expert in holistic animal care, but on the few occasions that Jojo has needed specialty help from a traditional vet, Dr. Rettig communicated that to us immediately and supplied us with wonderful referrals. We trust her recommendations completely. Jojo loves Dr. Rettig, too! She is often eager and excited when we arrive at the clinic, which is not the case with ANY other vet we have taken her to see. We all know how lucky we are to have access to such a unique healing practice!
