Our new house had not had any landscaping done in years. We met with Philip of Team G7 to talk about ideas for improving what landscaping existed and were so impressed with his knowledge and vision that we decided to do a complete overhaul of both the front and back yards. From start to finish Philip and his crew were a pleasure to work with. Philip's crew completely replaced the patio in the backyard with concrete and travertine tile. Also in the back yard, a new overhead shade structure was added. They also replaced the back fence and added new fencing along our property line in the front yard. A new walkway was added to the front and side yards and the driveway was replaced and widened. Then the plants were replaced in both the front and back yards. 3 months out the plants are absolutely thriving. The final touch was landscape lighting in both yards. When I recently relocated to San Diego, one of the main improvements I was anxious to address was landscaping the front and back yards. Fortunately, my real estate agent immediately recommended Philip as a landscape designer she knew well and respected as the "best of the best." She assured me that he was someone I could trust and someone who was always there when he said he would be. Having worked with other contractors in the past, I knew that was not always something I could count on. A few weeks later, my agent introduced me to Philip. He immediately impressed me as someone who takes his job seriously and expects the same from his clients. He asked me thought-provoking questions about my "vision" for the yard and to explain to him not simply "what" I wanted but "why" I wanted it. I immediately realized that this is someone who puts thought and consideration for the lifestyle and tastes of his clients into his design. He instilled confidence in me with his years of experience and his certainty that we could create exactly the kind of space that would make my house a place that would feel more like a home. After a few months, I decided to have Philip create some designs for the yard, but I did not think that I would be ready to move forward until I settled into the house many months later. When we met to discuss elements of the design, I found Philip to be organized, thorough, insightful, creative, a good listener, and enthusiastic and optimistic about the plans. Soon he presented two different plans for the back and front yards. After our meeting, Philip came back with an amazing third plan that somehow combined my favorite elements of both plans. I don't know how he did it, but he understood and executed a vision I didn't even know I had! Of course, at this point, I was completely on board with moving forward with the project and excited about the next few months. He introduced me to the plant specialist, Gary, who listened to my list of plants I liked and some I wanted to avoid, color schemes, and best water-wise choices for my coastal San Diego location. Gary was available throughout the entire project by phone. I was fortunate to have Cesar lead the site team. At our first meeting, Philip explained that Cesar would be my daily contact on the job and that Philip himself would be visiting the site regularly and calling several times a week to see how everything was progressing. Cesar was a gem. He and his team were organized, hard-working (8-hour consecutive days), reliable, timely, tidy with the worksite, and informative about progress and expectations. And their workmanship was top-notch and detailed. Cesar and I would meet every Thursday afternoon at the same time to discuss what had been completed and plans for the upcoming week. He was about the most patient person I know, for I had endless questions, requests, lists, and clarifications that he always welcomed with enthusiasm and respect. Philip and Cesar also educated me to become a competent steward of my new yard: how to use a soil probe, monitor the irrigation, and always pause to enjoy the beauty of my new surroundings. Philip, Cesar, his father Cata, and I met in late August for the final walk-through. Philip then explained that we would remain in contact for the months and year ahead. He made it clear that they were always within reach and would remain a support. In fact, Philip even helped me find a qualified maintenance person to take care of the weekly maintenance. When I reflect over the past few months, I realize that though the initial project is completed, the relationships will continue for years to come, and that is a great comfort. The tone of respect, client concern, joy of executing a vision, thoroughness, and attention to detail of the company come from the top and filter down to everyone I encountered throughout the process. I have contracted many home and yard projects over the years and I have to say my overall experience with Phillip and Team G7 and the quality of the work has been the absolute best. - Cost: Project met agreed to price. We had an amazing experience with Team G7. During the initial consultation and design, Phillip was skilled at working with us to understand our vision for the property and the first draft of the design was very close to where we ended up. As we moved forward into the construction phase, we continued to come up with new ideas and changes to the design and Phillip and Gary were always accommodating of these ideas. The quality of their work was outstanding, the crews were respectful and the site was always kept clean. As happens with these types of projects, sometimes the finished product doesn't match the vision, and in these cases (which were rare) Phillip and Gary worked with us to make sure we were happy. It's been a process to find a good landscaping design team for our property in SD area. This company seemed to be promising at the beginning..but when a representative came to give us a quote the guy was very rude to my husband (who has lived over 20 years in the USA) he has an accent he assumed he was a worker not the owner. Needless to say there was definitely some awkwardness after he made the wrong assumption but yet not really an apology. Also, after looking on their site he looked to be one of the owners! We have had the pleasure of working with Team G7 in the fall of 2014 and would like to share our experience about this fantastic landscaping company. To give a brief history, we purchased a home in 2013 with an undeveloped one-half acre lot. Unaware of Team G7 at that time, we turned to recommendations from friends and colleagues, as well as our own laborious online research. After meeting with a few designers, we began and completed our project with a company that is now out of business. Our project included the front yard and driveway, courtyard, side yard, and part of the backyard. Many issues arose in the last half of our timeline, and we sadly came to the realization the company we contracted performed sub-par work inconsistent with the price of our bid. Shortly after completion, we also began to notice faulty installation in electrical, drainage, and parts of the irrigation system, amongst other concerns. Knowing our property had so much more potential for beauty and function than demonstrated, we were greatly disappointed with the final outcome. The overall process with Philip from Team G7 started with the design phase, where several computer models provided us with realistic visuals of what our backyard could look like, given different design approaches. Philip's exceptional sense for design gave us options to choose from that we had not even imagined before seeing them on screen. He would listen to our general taste for layouts, functional spaces, and expected scenarios for how the yard would eventually be utilized for entertainment, family time, quiet time, and other aspects - always expertly building in our individual preferences. This attention to detail that Philip displayed during the design phase carried through the entire project, and even after it was formally complete. The next step after agreeing on a design was chalking out the entire vision in the backyard on the ground, so that additional modifications could be made based when actually seeing how things would be spaced, sized, and positioned. I cannot emphasize enough how critical it is in any contractor relationship that you can hold a single person accountable to everything that happens in the project, even if sub contractors are called in. You need to expect this single person to be knowledgeable in all things relating to the project, including design, timeline, coordination with your occasional presence at home, as well as construction details that require your input as work moves along. Thanks to Philip we could enjoy a piece of mind throughout the project, because he not only was always fully knowledgeable and on top of any issues, but perfectly accessible when you needed him. Due to the nature of a backyard remodel project, a number of questions and concerns about the progress and how things are being built will come up, and also sometimes doubts that the correct design choices were made, etc. Philip professionally guided us through those phases by patiently discussing every issue with us to conclusion, and by thoroughly explaining tradeoffs between aesthetics, functionality, and sometimes cost. He has enormous design talent and experience, so that you will never feel cornered or regretful about the result of any aspects of the end product. I am personally a relatively hands-on guy and had lots of questions and opinions, which I invariably received an answer to from Philip within 20-30 minutes, at most. Weekends, holidays, or during the week, at late and early hours, we were always able to get a hold of Philip to get any issues out of the way. If we did not have any questions for a period of time, he would proactively reach out to us to provide status updates. We had interviewed many other contractors before deciding on Team G7. This was not a budget decision, as Team G7 is not the cheapest option out there, but for a very valid reason - overall value. There was never any doubt in our mind that the value that Philip and Team G7 would deliver was the best you could find, and the proof is in the result of our backyard remodel. I believe this is my first ever Yelp review. My reason for writing is simple: Philip/Team G7 earned it. My wife and I are thrilled with our landscaping and hardscaping results. And, importantly, we lived through (and, at times, even enjoyed) the process of getting to those results. My wife was responsible for the day-to-day interactions with Team G7, and was impressed by the entire team's professionalism, including how they maintained a relatively clean work area (even during the height of demolition) and the respect they showed to our neighbors. By way of background, we decided some time ago to redesign our backyard - but we had three problems: Unlimited ideas; a lack of knowledge about landscaping and hardscaping design and the cost; and my hectic schedule that made it difficult to find time to do the research needed to make decisions. We interviewed several landscapers. In 1984 Philip created a design for part of my backyard. There was a swimming pool in the other part. The work included removing the grass and replacing it with a bi-level concrete patio with brick trim, lighting and plants. He blended the new entertainment area and the pool area with a low wall. Thirty-three years later when it was decided to fill in the pool, I again turned to Philip to do the design. He masterfully created a beautiful drought tolerant garden where the pool had been previously. In 2016 I felt I needed to replant the 2 hills behind the above mentioned two areas. Philip provided the guidance that was needed to create beautiful blooming succulents and grasses among the existing fruit trees. He is truly an artist who continually creates the blueprints for a fantastic setting. My favorite part of the process has been watching Philip when he does the plant placement.
