We very helpful with replacing a string I had popped on a violin I had checked out from the library. The library had just gotten the violin recently, but didn't include rosin. The staff were nice enough to donate a piece of rosin for the library's instrument, and helped replace the string, and tuned afterwards. :) read more

I went to the Puyallup store with my grandson to purchase an Oboe after speaking to Jeff the day before. Justin greeted us as we walked in the door. After telling him why we were there he brought Bradley into the conversation. They then brought Matt, the technician, from the back to explain to us the differences in the two models that they had to offer. What a pleasant way to spend an afternoon! So friendly, fun and knowledgeable! I didn't have the opportunity to meet Jeff but I spoken with him over the phone and he's so pleasant to talk to. I had a question today and when I called a young lady named Charlotte answered and true to form was as pleasant as everyone else in that store is. It's a long drive for me but very well worth it to receive that kind of exemplary customer service! Especially in a time where kindness and customer service seem to be at a minimum. I have been using Ted brown as my music source for many years, trying to keep things local. In the past 2 years when I have gone in to get books for my students they have NEVER had the complete sets that I need at the beginning of the year. They always have to order it from another store. Then they always seem to have computer issues when I do go get them. I stood there today for a long time, waiting to again get a full set they didn't have. Gonna be a week out again. I proceeded to look at Amazon as I stood there. They had all 3 I needed and I can have them tomorrow . Sad that they aren't supplied with the needs around the area. From a guitarists point of view this Ted brown is fantastic. I got my first electric guitar here and they're staff helped me in any way I needed. I've been coming in quite a few times now so they started to remember my face and they're always friendly. They're service was so great I recently went in and got a better electric guitar (and amp) at a great price. Even more recently I went in for a few picks and a cable for my guitar and I figured I would try some of the acoustics out and I ended up falling in love with one but I didn't have the cash on me so I went home and planned on coming the next day, when I did someone else apparently fell in love with that guitar as well but they're staff helped me order another one just like it to their store at the same price as the one on the wall (which was on sale). read more

We've taken our kids here for both voice and piano lessons. Their staff is wonderful and were super flexible during Covid, quickly offering virtual piano lessons along with in-person, allowing families and students to choose what works best. (Also great for busy parents). Miss Dana has taught our grade schooler for years and is one of the best piano teachers out there. She goes above & beyond for her students. We also rented a violin from them a few years back which was a very positive experience. read more

We have always had great experiences. Today, we had superior service from Charlie, Hudson, and Jeff. They helped us purchase an instrument based on our specific needs. They listened to our intended use (pep/marching band), understood our budget, and gave us a great price, all while being friendly, personable, and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this group. I came back a few days later after doing some research to make the purchase and their sales associates helped me finalize a great deal on a great guitar! I had a terrible experience at this store, probably the crappiest staff of any guitar shop I've ever been to. I walked in the store knowing the exact make, and model of amp I wanted to buy and the kid that worked there kept trying to up sell me to a more expensive amp... I wanted the amp that I wanted because I knew it had the sound and features I needed. I even told the guy I needed something 20 watts or less and he kept pushing 40 watt and larger amps. And to top it off when I actually tried out the amps he was suggesting, he kept fucking with the EQ while I was trying to feel it out. I still bought the amp I went in to get but only because it was the only shop open in the area. I will not be back. read more

The staff at this location isUN professional and lacks just about every social skill needed to be doing business. They lie and they are also dishonest. Never received our refund that we were promised first by the store, then by a lady who said she was part of the"family." Never received. Teacher routinely wouldn't shoe up and no one would ever notify us. read more

Our family has only conducted business with this store a couple times and it's been between good to awesome. My first visit was a couple years ago, I came in to get the works done to an electric guitar i bought off a friend. The gentleman working that day was very helpful and walked me through what all he would do and the exact pricing. At the time, it was going to be quite an expense and after a week of waiting the guitar was ready to go. I was delighted to hear that he was going to give me a steep discount and the whole ordeal became no less than maybe a full tank of gas. Though, my wife made a recent visit to purchase an electric drumkit for my kid for Christmas. It was the last one so it was the "try out" display unit in good condition. She made the purchase with the salesmen, seemingly smooth, but they overlooked the drumsticks. She left there, spending well over a few hundred dollars and the salesmen failed to supply her with drumsticks. A small oversight, I can understand this. I made contact with the manager and he was very happy to help out and get us a pair. So, not a terrible turn of events and I thank the manager. I also have my other son going here for guitar lessons and he seems to be having a good time with it. read more

I am so happy we chose Ted brown for our daughters piano lessons. The instructor is very professional and she is so good with teaching her! She has a different way of understanding with each student that seems to resonate with them personally and make them enjoy their lesson. This was my first time in a music store, but I have to say, the service and friendliness of Joel, the instrument repair guru was amazing! We brought my daughters guitar in because she was starting lessons and it had a broken string. Joel determined that all the strings needed to be replaced and got right to it. He patiently answered my kids' questions as he worked and explained what he was doing and why. He even tried to make the guitar more user friendly for my daughter because he knew she was just a beginner, but couldn't because of a glue issue! If you are going to rent an instrument from this business...be very vigilant. We rented a school instrument from these guys. We had and rented it for 4 years. The instrument was good quality...like new condition. That was not the case at first. They first presented us with a heavily used...beat up and worn out instrument with an I'm sorry but we don"t have anything new or newer. While doing the rental paperwork, my child was becoming visibly upset over the condition of the instrument. We told them to quash everything because I didn't want to discourage my child. Suddenly... a like new one appeared and the transaction was back on. I was actually happy about that. Here's my concern with their rental process. The instrument has an assigned value. When you rent.....your payments minus service agreement and tax are 100% applied to the purchase price of your instrument ( pretty standard throughout the industry ). For 4 years we had automatic payments taken out to cover the rental. After that much time we kind of were not thinking about the rental status. Then at last we thought...maybe we should check into when this instrument is paid off. Found out it had been paid off for a few months. No word from Ted Brown at all. We were renting an instrument that we in fact, already owned. I realized in the shop that they had no intention of alerting us that we were 'Paid in Full". I watched as the clerk called back to the Tacoma Store and had the Rental Manager give him numbers to manipulate the purchase price to fit how long we rented for so there would be no refund of extra payments. In fact, there was an admission from the clerk that he didn't know why they did it that way...but they will just let a customer go on renting...forever. This is not our first time renting. This was the last of 5 children and we rented for all of them. This was our first and last time with Ted Brown. I never encountered this practice from the other shops. The way Ted Brown handles long term rentals is very suspect. I realize that it was ultilmately up to me to track this rental...But frankly, I expected more from a reputable business. A note, email...something...saying youv'e reached the end of your rental terms so here are your options. But I guess the chance to go into pure profit mode is to strong for them to do the right thing for their customers If you choose to rent from this business then you should demand a set purchase price for the instrument that you physically have. Then keep track..Be very vigilant. read more
