I was referred to Dr. Wassel by my dentist for a couple extractions. For my initial consult he was very detailed about what the procedure plan would be, he answered all my questions and made sure I was on board with the plan. His staff was very professional and polite. After my consult I was given an insurance coverage form explaining what was covered and what my out-of-pocket co pay would be. The day of my procedure Dr. Wassel reiterated the treatment plan once again and continued with my treatment. I was blown away with his professionalism and effectiveness. I was expecting a much painful experience from the beginning, once he got the anesthesia going the procedure took about maybe 40 minutes total to complete. He was very good about asking if I felt any pain or discomfort throughout the process. Overall, my experience was a 10/10. I had an appointment scheduled. Ten days before the appointment I had severe pain through the night. I called his office around 0730 and they agreed to see me that morning asap. He had some concerns that we were concentrating on the correct tooth and arranged for me to see a root canal specialist. He was close by. Still some concerns by the specialist but he gave me his professional opinion. I decided on extracting a wisdom tooth. I went back to Dr. Wassel's office his staff seated me and by 1115 I was out the door. Pulling that tooth was the correct decision. Unscheduled visit to two Dentist within 20 minutes of calling was unbelievable to me. Painless, professional, flexible are only a few of the words to describe the visit. His staff was outstanding. Dr. Wassel extracted two of my upper wisdom teeth a few days ago & I have been blown away from start to finish. 10/10 pre-op, op to post-op. I currently work in the dental field and I was looking for the best option (Oral Surgeon & office) to remove my last two wisdom teeth. I was given great feedback from each of my coworkers whether they had a personal experience here or brought each of their kids to see Dr. Wassel throughout the years. All had great experiences so I decided to move forward & schedule my appt! Front desk was very nice! Dr. Wassel went over all of my options with me, including choice of local anesthetic, nitrous or general anesthesia. I chose to continue with local anesthetic (numbing of the area) and was completely comfortable as Dr. Wassel assured me if it was not enough we could stop the procedure to proceed with nitrous as well. While he administered the local anesthetic, he was very calm and collected notifying me there would be a small pinch or which areas are more uncomfortable while administering. During the operation, I could feel a small amount of discomfort and Dr. Wassel stopped right away to administer a small amount as needed of local anesthetic in that area. As we continued, I was numb making the procedure comfortable for me only feeling very slight pressure as expected. The procedure was done very efficiently with his assistant. Dr. Wassel let me know how it went from his perspective Post-op was made easy as he gave very thorough instructions. Once the numbing wore off, I was in very minimal pain or discomfort. I have a very low pain tolerance and this was very tolerable, yet I took just two 200mg Aleve as an anti-inflammatory. I used the day of the procedure to rest. The following day, Dr wassel called to check on how I was doing and if I had any questions! The day after the procedure, I had very little to no discomfort at all and very little to no swelling at all. I am absolutely blown away with this experience because I had my other two wisdom teeth removed previously at other offices and my experience was not at all like this. Wisdom teeth extraction review.... Came here to get two impacted wisdom teeth removed. Without insurance, for 2 teeth and to be put totally under it came up to be around $1,100.00. Dr. Wassel was nice and explained the extraction procedure. The lady who helped me get comfy on the chair for the extraction was nice as well. As far as Carol K's comment about the "robot", she was prob talking about the the lady who collected our payment. I guess wasn't the most personable but she wasn't rude and just did her job. I like to think I have a strong pain threshold but for something like this I didn't want to feel a thing so I chose to get put under. I remember counting backwards and then all of the sudden the lady waking me up. So crazy! The week after surgery I healed nicely, only had to take vicoden for the two days after. After 3 visits to Dr. Wassel's office, I think I figured this place out. The Dr and the people that actually take care of you are very nice but the receptionist and payables lady are despicable abusive people IMO. Background is I had two broken teeth - needed broken teeth removed, bone grafting, and two implants. Here are my honest to a fault recollections from my last visit (3rd): Me (walking with receptionist into first office where BP is done): So you guys offer being put to sleep, right? Receptionist (without even looking at me in a snotty voice): Depends on your finances. 1 - I'm positive whether your office offers sleep treatment or not has nothing to do with my finances. 2 - Have noticed this before - some people enjoy questioning your finances - gives them some type of weird power trip. Me: So that was a "yes"? Receptionist: Yes, but like I said it depends on your finances. After the visit with the nice group that do the work I'm led to the Payables lady. Payables lady (first thing she says): I'm the one you're going to hate - She sure go that right!!! Me (puzzled); Hello? Payables lady: $650 for today's visit - CT Scan to look at how bone graft did Me (handed her my card): Is this included in the previous estimate you gave me? Payables lady: No Me (more puzzled): So this is just an extra thing? Payables lady: (no response) Me: How about the actual cost of the tooth - is that and all the other charges included in your estimate. Payables lady: No, the tooth and abutment are not included in the estimate. Me: Do you know about how much those are going to cost? Payables lady (in fed up voice): You know, I suggest you walk right out there on that path, walk down to the dentist that makes the stuff, and ask him. Payables lady (not done after telling me to hit the path): You know, I find it hard to believe that after all these visits you don't know what it's going to cost. - No one but her had ever given me any pricing info and her info was a one page sheet she had handed me. I don't want to be a fake tooth expert. I want to know about how much the whole thing is going to cost. Me (flabbergasted and silent): Payables lady: repeats the whole diatribe about hitting the path and asking the other dentist. ...as i'm quietly livid walking back to my car, the dentist runs out the back door towards me and says: everything's fine on the CT Scan. One little issue but we should be ok - we'll go forward like everything's ok. Frankly, after this visit I wanted to rearrange a few sets of teeth myself and still do. You seem like a nice guy Dr Wassel - but you're responsible for your front office people preying on your clients for their abusive thrill and deserve to be held accountable for it. Two weeks later - Dr Wassel called - reviewed CT Scan again and want to remove two other teeth that are working fine and don't bother me. The environment in the office is calm and relaxing. Very clean and well equipped. I had my wisdom teeth removed here and did not feel any crazy effects after my surgery. Dr. Wassel removed my daughter's 4 wisdom teeth this past July during the pandemic. The office was immaculately setup for safety and the staff was extremely supportive to my very nervous 17 year old. The procedure took about 45 minutes (does not include pre and post op), and it went off without a hitch. Dr. Wassel was professional and kind and explained everything to us prior to her extractions. He was recommended by her pediatric dentist, Matt Davis, and we do not regret our choice. It's been almost 8 weeks, and my daughter is doing great. And for someone who worries about everything, she still can't believe it went so easily. Oh and I also recommend buying one of those Velcro ice packs that wrap around your face from Amazon. After much consideration about getting adult braces, I was referred by my orthodontist to Dr. Wassel. The office is super nice and in a great location. The staff was wonderful and even let me pay my estimate cost while awaiting pre-authorization from my insurance. They also accept care credit. Glad my friend referred me to Dr. Wassel. I've had way too much (badly done) dental work in my life time. So much that I had been putting this off for a very long time. I was anxious going into the office. Quickly Kim (receptionist) put me at ease. Must have been her sweet accent. We made small talk in the lobby until it was my time to go. After waiting for less than 10 minutes Veronica came in to take an Xray of my crazy tooth like a little kid asked "Can I See it, can I see it?" she smiled and showed me. Shortly after my Xray Dr. Wassel came in asked a few questions answered mine and numbed me. Soon after that I was ready for my extraction. My extraction was a "tough" one. He was really going to town on it. Finally the little sucker came out. The only pain I felt during the procedure was in my jaw from having my mouth open that wide. After the procedure Kim came in to give me the meds I needed and gave me care instructions. And after that I paid my dues to Tristan, who is also very nice and I was on my way. After a couple of hours (at home) I had tons of questions I needed to ask. Kim was sure to answer most of them and said she would get back to me on a couple other. Few minutes later I get a call from Dr.Wassel with answers. Pretty sure he took time from his personal time to call me since it was after 5pm. I really did appreciate that. This practice is really more like a family practice. You really feel at ease the second you walk in the door. The entire staff really cares about you and you can tell they love what they do. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed today and I was pretty nervous because I waited so long to have them removed and a little embarrassed because they already started to break apart and they were just in bad shape. The whole staff and Dr. Wassel made me feel so comfortable and at ease. They answered any questions I had and explained everything clearly. I didn't experience any pain except the needle for numbing which wasn't to bad then I had the gas which really put me at ease and the whole process was very quick and he kept making sure I was ok. With insurance, to get my two wisdom teeth extracted with general anesthesia and not being put to sleep, I didn't pay anything, which means Dr Wassel's prices are fair. Staff was nice and easy to talk to. The only thing is Dr. Wassel is not very gentle when putting the needle in your gums to numb you. It's done fast instead of slow and gradually. I'm not afraid of needles and still I did not like the way he did it so fast..I went there twice because I got my bottom wisdom teeth pulled first and then my top. I felt Dr. was kind of just trying to get the job done, and he was okay, but not someone who will say "ok, take a deep breath" or "count to three..". He just starts poking at your gum and cracking the teeth to pull them out. I think if I would have got put to sleep, I would have had a better experience, but for me it was okay for not paying anything after insurance. read more

It is without reservation that I recommend Dr. Wassel's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice. We were referred by our general dental practice, Grand Dentistry in Escondido, after a horrific experience with Gentle Dental, also in Escondido. We were seeking a reputable Anthem Blue Cross provider to extract impacted wisdom teeth and found this to be very challenging. We had the procedure pre-authorized by the insurance provider with the alternate practice and the staff at Dr. Wassel's office did not miss a beat in moving forward with this. His teeth had begun to erupt and he was on break from college, so time was of the essence. Their website was informative and fully prepared us for the procedure. Dr. Wassel and his staff were incredibly kind and capable. Our son's teeth were extracted, the staff was very attentive, and he recovered within days without incident. Dr. Wassel provided all necessary medication and personally followed up to ensure our son's recovery was on track. He did not even swell - remarkable!! Other family members currently require procedures that Dr. Wassel provides and we are so relieved to have found such a capably practice to rely upon for these procedures. read more

Dr Wassel was recommended by my child's dentist for wisdom teeth extraction. While I am sure Dr Wassel is a fantastic dentist, I was not able to get past the the person who handles the insurance information. She was rude, surly, and had a tone that was akin to Wesley Snipes dealing with the IRS rather that dealing with a business eager to provide a service. She was unable to locate my daughters Delta Dental coverage in the system, I explained that I could email the information to her so that she would have it; however, as she explained, she knows "how to use the system, I am in it everyday". She had called my wife and me on two occasions asking for our daughters "exact date of birth", to which we both provided, and she stated it was incorrect. When she finally realized the issue was on her end, and she was able to see the insurance information for my daughter, she went on to explain how we were in the wrong. Again, while I will never know for sure, I am sure that Dr Wassel is a very good dentist and provides a wonderful service; however, because of his office staff I I will never seek treatment here. If you are in need of an oral surgeon, I would not hesitate to use Dr. Wassel's services. I needed several teeth to be extracted, and he and his staff made it as easy as possible. He and his staff were professional, careful, and considerate. They made it comfortable, and took care of all my needs. We started the procedure with the expectation that if needed, I could have them add the nitrous oxide.
