But let me respond to what she referred to as "lack of research" which has no relevance to my post. What research should I do when I receive an abrupt email and "text" telling me that my family's dental insurance is no longer accepted, an insurance we have had for 15 years. No warning. No empathy. Just an abrupt email and text message sort of like "surprise" we are no longer accepting Delta Dental - here are our rates of you want to pay cash. The staff there have always been curt, if not rude and I will add that to the lack of empathy for a family of six when you call (in advance) to change and appointment because things change, you get a rude response from a receptionist/ clerk telling you that they can't get you in for 6-7 months. What business does that?? Usually most businesses, especially when you as the consumer have the courtesy to call them in advance, will try to work out something with you. Instead you get a response "sorry, the doctor is busy or our specialists are jam packed-we can't accommodate changes. There is a better way to manage this. Again, I ask, what research needs to be done? This message came to me from the Doc's office that "we are no longer accepting Delta Dental". This is not political and not about the ridiculousness of insurance in this country. This is not about the care we received (other than the receptionists). The care was good. This post is about how one has chosen to approach his business and customers. There is and was a better way to approach this, but it is how he has chosen to run his business. I don't have to agree with it and he doesn't have to agree with me. read more

By the beard of Zeus, I did not expect a routine dental visit to feel like I'd signed up for medieval interrogation. This family dentist--once a warm, homespun operation--has apparently traded kindness for a set of cold, unfeeling hands and an attitude problem. What should've been a gentle cleaning turned into a full-contact sport. I've had bar fights that were more delicate. The new staff? Unpleasant, impatient, and about as comforting as a brick to the face. The charm of the original family-run vibe has vanished like my trust--and possibly some enamel. Customer service has taken a dramatic nosedive. No warmth, no reassurance, just grim determination and rough handling. Frankly, I'm not even mad... I'm impressed by how far this place has fallen. I love dentistry. I love lamp. I do not love this dentist. Stay classy somewhere else. read more

Dr. Fruin is amazing. Top notch Dentist...my whole family has been going here for 15+ years. But something has happened to his office...it's like he has a new business partner and everything is very regimented, by the book...very bureaucratic. If you know Dr. Fruin, you know he's an easy going, great guy. But the attittude/spirit of the office has changed to the detriment of his patients. I've been seeing Dr. Fruin for years, and even though he's no longer in network with my insurance, I still choose to come here because the care and trust I have with him and his team is unmatched. He's professional, kind, and always makes sure I feel comfortable. What I love most is that he only recommends treatment that's truly needed. I never feel like the office is trying to sell me on something. When Dr. Fruin says it's time for a filling or a night guard, I know it's for my benefit. I like to stay on top of cleanings every 3 months, and while I was originally booked out, the office added me to their waitlist. Since being on the list, they had a cancellation and got me in sooner, which I really appreciated. They're great about communicating and making it easy to stay on track. I've had cleanings with Sarah in the past and most recently with Courtney, and both of them were amazing, so thorough and gentle, and they make the whole appointment stress-free. Overall, Dr. Fruin and his team go above and beyond. Even without in-network coverage, it's worth every visit for the honesty, care, and professionalism they provide. Dr. Fruin is hilarious and goes out of his way and make patients feel comfortable, but most importantly he's incredibly caring and always goes out of his way to make sure that his work is top notch. his team is also awesome and when I had a dental emergency they went out of their way to accommodate me when possible! read more

Be careful people at front desk they overcharged you , and they are very rude Dr. is nice but people in front desk are not good. I have been seeing Dr. Fruin for a long time but stop seeing him now because of his staff. You better check your bill each time you visited they overcharged . Also to make a cleaning you can not get in until 6-8 months. There are a lot of dentists around you do not need this. Very bad receptionist . He will loose more patients if he still keep these people at the front desk. read more

I have had over 20 years of extraordinary service from both Fruin dentists. My first experience was with the father, Dr John Fruin and he was a competent dentist and a joy to talk with during my visits. He did a great job on a crown and it has lasted over 18 years. Dr. Jeffrey Fruin is also a well trained dentist and has a wonderful sense of humor. I actually look forward to my visits. Even when I just have my teeth cleaned he always follows up with a thorough exam. Dr. Fruin really exceeded my expectations when I recently had a cap come off my bottom front tooth. This happened about 4:30pm on a Friday afternoon. I called the office expecting to get a recording but instead Dr. Fruin answered the phone. I explained my problem and he told me to come into the office that evening at 6:00pm. He expertly fixed the tooth and I was on my way at about 6:45pm. His kindness and professionalism definitely exceeded my expectations. I can't imagine going anywhere else for my dental needs. His staff is also cordial and professional. read more

I love going to Dr Fruin. His office is friendly and welcoming. I have worked in the dental profession for many years and know when Dentists want to replace unneeded fillings, do unnecessary crowns or other dental procedures. i've been seeing this dentist for 15 years. Quality care, friendly dentist, doesn't oversell services. But lately there's a nine month wait to get an appointment which seems insane considering you're supposed to see a dentist every six months. It feels like a failure of patient responsibility so I can no longer recommend. read more

This dental office went downhill fast. If you want a cleaning, minimum Seven month wait. if they need to reschedule your appointment, there's no accommodation and another seven month wait. Everyone at the front desk should be replaced. read more

My dentist retired so my sister recommended I see her dentist, Dr. Jeffrey Fruin, because he does not try to sell his patients on expensive procedures that they don't really need. Everyone was very friendly and the office was efficient. My hygienist, Rachel, was very gentle and did a wonderful job. I am told the other hygienists in the office are also great, so a person cannot go wrong by having their teeth cleaned here. Afterwards, I saw Dr. Fruin and he immediately noted the teeth that my previous dentist had been watching, and recommended that no action be taken at this time. Hearing my new dentist agree with my old dentist was good news and gave me confidence that I had found a great new dentist. Most people don't look forward to going to the dentist, but I dare say today was an enjoyable experience. If you are looking for a new dentist, you should definitely give Dr. Fruin's office a try. read more

I didn't realize I had had poor dentistry experiences until I came to Dr. Fruin and realized what things should have been like. He's very knowledgeable and answers questions with detail. He's thorough in his exams, but he does not push unnecessary procedures. I first came to him for an emergency filling when an old filling fell out, and even though they were busy, they didn't want me to be in pain, so they squeezed me in right away. Dr. Fruin was gentle and attentive, and it ended up being the first time I had virtually no discomfort after having a cavity filled. As if that were not enough, he has a great personality! He looks like Santa Clause and acts like I imagine he would, too -- warm, caring, and fun, while remaining 100% professional. His team is equally wonderful. I'm so glad I found them! read more

Wow! I no longer fear going to the dentist. Jeff is very good at making you feel comfortable and his entire staff is honest about your teeth. My last dentist, Carlsbad Open 7 Day, over-charged me (a few thousand dollars) and continually tried to up-sell more and more products that I didn't need or want. With Jeff, you're in and out. You get what you need and you get to go home. Plus, he's pretty good at telling crazy stories that keep you coming back for more. Make sure to say "Hi" to his mom, Pat. I recommend Jeff for several reasons. First of all, the work is top notch. He and his staff get the job done right the first time. Then he is honest. I came to him after trying another dentist who told me I had a dozen cavities and gave me a fluoride treatment too. Yeah, turns out I only had 2 very small ones. Jeff told me he hears stories like mine every week. In addition, he's got a great new office with current technology. I'm specifically referring to digital x-rays, which are a lot less harmful. I'm sure he's up-to-date on other equipment, but thankfully I haven't been exposed to it. Finally, he is a personable guy who will tell you crazy stories as he works on you. Recently moved to the neighborhood and finally needed to replace my dentist in Orange County (I loved her so much I traveled to see her the past year!). I was able to get an appointment for a cleaning the same week I called as they had a cancellation. Hygienist was really sweet and did a great job. She said she's worked with Dr. Fruit for the past couple years and compared to some dentists she has worked for, he's honest and will never be the dentist who just tries to make money off his patients. And most importantly, Dr. Fruin lives up to the hype! He was super nice and I can tell that if I actually needed more than a checkup I could trust him to be honest. read more

I love this dentist! Having spent several years in a variety of other practices in the area, he is hands down the best. No upselling in the chair -- just competent, friendly service. What triggered me to write, however, was really excellent service we received this week. My husband lost a crown, called, and was in the chair within an hour and a half. And instead of selling him a new crown, Dr Fruin fixed the old one. Then I called yesterday afternoon with a toothache and was seen this morning. Jeff is incredible. Our whole family has been seeing Jeff for the last seven years. My wife and I think he is one of the best dentists we have ever seen. My 12 & 13 yr old daughters have been seeing him since they were 5 & 6 and absolutely love him. Jeff has gained their confidence & performed some dental procedures that would have caused them to dart out of any other dentist's chair. He has a great sense of humor and we completely appreciate his expertise and honesty. sept 21 2016 I've never been one for posting reviews, but I thought that what happened to me was worth posting about. I would like to start off by saying that the doctor has a wonderful staff. I just moved to town and was suggested Dr. Fruin by a friend. His office is modern and his staff friendly. I did had a wonderful cleaning by a talented specialist. Once that was taken care of the doctor himself came in to give my teeth a once-over. Dr. Fruin is full of life; loud and friendly and I liked him from the start. Instead of using the traditional metal probe to look over my teeth he used this fancy camera on a stick. By the end of his examination he diagnosed me with four cavities. He said they've been there for a while. After bring up the macro photos of my teeth on the screen they didn't look great I have never skimped on dental care before. Brush at least twice a day, mouth wash, floss... I also visit the dentist regularly (every six months) and get x rays every year or so. The doctor said this should be visible in my previous x ray (jan 2015). I immediately called my dentist back home and they assured me my previous x rays had no signs of tooth decay. Dr. Fruin assured me it was no big deal and they could schedule an appt to get them taken care of. I said I'd like to get a second opinion before moving forward. To their credit they said they recommended this as well. The following day I went to another dentist for a second opinion. I told him everything that had happened. Instead of looking around my mouth with a camera he poked around with a metal probe. In the end no cavities were found, only stains that looked like cavities. I don't doubt the skill of Dr. Fruin or any of his staff members but the doctor's willingness to treat four 'cavities' without first confirming what they were with either an x-ray or simply poking around my teeth really worries me. read more

Well Dr Fruin is an excellent dentist. He dies not overcharge or suggest more work than necessary. However his mother runs the office and is very terse and has no empathy. She is rude. II will not go back because of being treated so poorly by his mother. There are several excellent dentists in Carlsbad who have great customer service. i was referred here by my friend who works with insurance coverage companies. she and have been going through several dentists, just to find one who doesn't pad their billing with secret procedures that you "needed", but weren't told you needed them. his staff efficiently checked me, and i immediately went back with the xray tech. i declined xrays, i had had them every year for the last 10 years, and finally decided i'd rather not get irradiated when i have had perfect teeth, no issues (lucky dog me). she was young, and little discombobulated about me declining (not sure she knew what to do), but finally sent the dental hygienist in. she was lovely, talkative, interesting convo. she cleaned my teeth very thoroughly, and was strong enough, but gentle. then, a big burly bear like guy comes in, very deep voice, very pleasant, and making jokes....dr. fruin. very sweet and funny. he was ok with me not getting xrays, and suggested to wait on getting invisalign (told my teeth were shifting from previous dentist, and they wanted to charge me $6000 for this). dr. fruin said it is mild, and to wait for a few years, which i appreciated. overall, dr. fruin and staff were very honest. it was a clean facility. i enjoyed seeing him, and having a good experience. read more

I HATE going to the dentist as much as anyone else. I also HATED looking for a 'new' dentist. Dr Fruin was recommended to me by a coworker whom I trust and I booked an appt. I am glad to say that he will be MY Dentist from now on. Even if I have to pay out of pocket. He's that good in my opinion and he staff is excellent. Great "chairside" manner. Great communication. I've been going to Jeff Fruin for my whole families' dental care for some years now. Today I had the unfortunate situation of having a temporary crown come off while I was flossing and it's a Saturday. First I thought I'll push the thing back in and tough it out till Monday. Then the nerves felt the air and my certainty of plan 'A' was abandoned. I called Jeff's office number and got the recording of a direct number for after hours emergencies. But I still was wrestling whether I was an emergency or not, then a nerve in my mouth said, 'Yep you qualify'. After telling Jeff my dilemma he asked if I could get to his office in 15 minutes. I did and he and his beautiful wife met me at the office door. I was fixed and on my way in about 20 minutes. It was awesome to get small town personal treatment like this.
