Do not trust San Elijo Dental with your care! I had a crown with Dr. Bahlhorn at San Elijo Dental that left me in intense pain for more than three months, suffering from severe headaches, earaches and nerve pain. A couple weeks after the crown procedure was started, I scheduled an emergency visit with Dr. Gregg for pain on teeth directly beneath the recent crown. While Dr. Gregg was able to identify the tooth that was likely causing me pain, she failed to make the connection to my recent dental work and I left the appointment with no resolution. Weeks later I spoke to Dr. Balhorn about the pain and she recommended a dental procedure, but that procedure did not resolve my pain. Pain intensified and I was referred to an endodontist who finally asked the right question - 'have you had any recent dental work?' Sure enough, that led to identifying the problem - the recent crown was too high and needed adjustment. I had to request multiple adjustments over the next several months as pain persisted. Neither dentist at San Elijo Dental had the common sense to look through my records and make an obvious conclusion that the crown could be the source of my ongoing pain. This experience seriously impacted my quality of life for months, cost me time, money and used up all of my dental benefits. I sent a refund request to San Elijo Dental, only for the extra dental appointments, procedures, and referral I had to pay for due to their incompetence. It was a very fair request given that I did not ask reimbursement for my medical expenses, prescription drugs, time, pain or suffering. After a month with no response, I followed up and was only offered a tiny refund but advised that all expenses incurred due to botched procedures at their office are my responsibility per their waivers. This office is staffed with two dentists that only care about making money and do not stand behind their work or make things right for their patients when they make mistakes. If the above isn't enough, San Elijo's Dental office is unorganized and has poor communication... One afternoon, I made an emergency appointment with the front office for the following morning with Dr. Gregg as Dr. Bahlhorn was not available. The following morning at 8am, I received a text message from the office reminding me of the appointment with a note 'See you soon!". When I arrived for the appointment, I waited about 20 minutes and when Dr. Gregg came in to see me she said she wasn't expecting me because I did not confirm my appointment. I explained to Dr. Gregg I had not received a confirmation request, but she insisted I had. Later that day I verified with the front office that I was in fact NOT sent a confirmation: 'if an appointment is made the day prior to being seen, the patient will not receive a confirmation request'. On this same visit, Dr. Gregg also insisted I was told she did not want to see me that day because she did not have the expertise to adjust the crown Dr. Bahlhorn had performed. She did not care that I was in pain for 3 months. I was never told by anyone at her office that she did not want to see my that day and if I had known, I would not have spent my afternoon going to her office for an appointment! Why would her staff make me an appointment if Dr. Gregg was not going to see me? Dr. Gregg was aware I was upset about her rude, condescending and unprofessional behavior that day. More than a month later she sent me a text message at the suggestion of Dr. Bahlhorn to apologize. Seriously? That is the most insincere, pathetic apology attempt I have ever received and something I'd expect from a child, not a grown woman! read more

I had not seen a dentist in several years due to a bad experience 7 years ago so needless to say I had severe anxiety keeping me from my dental care. Fast forward a dental exam by Dr. Gregg, a few crowns, a root canal referral, and a tooth extraction (told you my dental care had been neglected), and I am back in the dentist chair with ZERO anxiety. Dr. Gregg and her staff treated me with exceptional care. From the front office to Dr. Gregg herself, they handled me with such care and compassion. They walked me through every procedure every step of the way. They even created a plan for me so I wasn't overwhelmed with the many problems I was facing from neglecting my dental care. Dr Greg best dentist ever. I live in Nevada an I fly to San Diego just to get my dental work done. I called the office due to my back molder filling came out an she booked me an emergency appointment within a day. There are several reasons I like this dentist so much. Service- friendly and caring staff. I called and they kindly made me and appointment the next day. Timely- I was helped within 5 minutes of my appointment Thorough- she took her time and explained the issue and the process it will take to fix my tooth. Cost- the cost was fair. Over and beyond- the dentist gave me thorough instructions in writing to give to a dentist if something was to happen to my teeth while out of town. I was having a hard time finding a dentist who is in network with my insurance in my area, and I found her on the list and googled her reviews online. Thanks to yelp, all of her reviews on her work was all 5 stars. So I decided to make an appointment. This dental office is very clean, and all the staff are super friendly. I didn't get her name, but one of the assistants is super friendly and caring, and she speaks fluent Japanese!!! So for Japanese patients, it's a bonus! :) So far, I had a cleaning, and had follow up appointment to fix 3 teeth. Hygienist was super friendly and super nice. I really enjoyed the cleaning experience. And for my 3 teeth, I gotta say the Dr. Gregg did the best job ever. She explained everything thoroughly. She is very professional, caring, and gentle. I was on the chair for 2 and a half hours, but the whole time, she made sure constantly if I was feeling okay and gave me several breaks so that my jaws don't hurt. I only have a temporary cap until my crowns are made, but even the temporary ones feel really nice. I can't wait to go back to get my crowns. But anyways, there is no better dental office out there! I recently had my first appointment here after getting a great recommendation from a friend. I'm so happy I went here. Nobody likes going to the dentist including myself. I've had a lot of work done so my appointments are not usually fun. Dr. Gregg, Sue, and their entire staff have made going to the dentist a lot less grueling. Fantastic dental office. I relocated to CA from MA and it took awhile to find a dental office that took my former employers dental insurance. Scheduling appointments for my wife & myself was simple. I had Christine for my cleaning and she was amazing. I barely felt anything and my teeth feel great. Dr. Gregg came in after the cleaning and went over my xrays and gave me a proposed treatment plan - no oversell, just what was needed. Luckily they had an opening 2 days later from a cancellation so I took the appointment. Dr.Gregg saw me right on time, her dental Asst Maria was great, comforting & explained what to expect. Dr. Gregg performed 2 procedures & I have to say it was the most painless dental procedures I've ever had. Once the novacaine wore off I wouldn't have known I'd been to the dentist. I called them last week and left them a message saying that I was a new patient and would like to make an appointment. Never heard back from them, it is now Wednesday. I called them again today during their business hours and I got their voicemail again. Left another message and still never heard from them. We couldn't be happier that we recently moved near San Elijo Dental! After a few bad experiences elsewhere, we weren't looking forward to dental visits after our move. The individualized service and care we received were such a relief, we even bring our two young kids here (4 and 6) and they do great. I really appreciate how Dr. Gregg and the hygienists were thoughtful enough to explain to each child what they were going to do before each new task in the dental chair. I thought we'd be lucky if we got the polish done, but even my more sensitive child let them do everything because they did a great job explaining, being patient, and the atmosphere was calm. Wow, all these 5 star ratings from people with only one or two reviews should give anyone pause. My family's experience was nowhere near 5 star. We had no problems with the practice before Dr. Gregg bought it. My husband's front crown, which Dr. Gregg made, is hardly a match to his other teeth. He was charged a ridiculous amount for this crown,too, and it took ages to get most of that money refunded. My daughter and I only had cleanings there, and really liked the hygienist, but both of us felt the dentist was pretty rude to her in front of us. We switched to another dentist (obviously!). I'm still waiting for my X-Rays to be sent to him, after three weeks. read more

Dr. Gregg seems to be a good dentist that cares about her patients but my problem is the up-sale that I get every time that I have something done. I was told to do a porcelain crown for aesthetics. When I declined since it was the furthest back tooth that no one would see, I was told that less of the tooth would be lost if I did the more expensive crown. I still felt the extra charge was not worth it so I declined a second time. I am asked every time to have fluoride treatment at an extra cost as well. FYI- Make sure that you have the front desk CALL your insurance company to make sure the services are covered. I was not given the correct information to make an informed decision. I was told between mine and my husband's insurance that my crown would be completely covered. This was verified using the Internet. If a call to the insurance company was made, I would have been told that it was not all covered. The lack of information cost me $300 out of pocket that was unexpected. This was completely an error that Dr. Gregg's office staff made and all I was asked was if there was anything they could do- like set up a payment plan. No thanks, I would prefer to be informed before I consent. Looking for a new dentist now. read more

Like many people, when I was young I had a bad experience at the dentist and avoided going for many years. The result was teeth that need a lot of work. I found Dr. Gregg based on the recommendation of one of my co-workers. Of course, when I first went, I was nervous based on my previous experience. During my first exam, I was immediately welcomed and made to feel comfortable. X-rays were needed, and my teeth were cleaned. Dr. Gregg's office takes it one step further though. Throughout the entire appointment, and every one since, they explain the why behind what they are doing. It sounds simple, but it makes me feel like I am making informed decisions, and not just a decision based on what I am told I need to do. For me, what made my experience bad, is that we have to take the word of the dentist, without knowing if we really need to get the work done. Dr. Gregg makes sure that there is no confusion behind what is being done. Dr. Gregg is a perfectionist. Her work is beautiful, and I can finally say I feel like my teeth are in good hands. I continue to say Dr. Gregg because this is her practice. That being said, everyone in the office practices the same philosophy of customer care, compassion, understanding, and overall professionalism. Unfortunately I need a lot of dental work; the good news is, I never mind going into the office because I genuinely feel like I am cared about, not just another patient for the day. I feel so fortunate to have found this office.
