Went there about 2 weeks ago. No door on the bathroom, just beads. He told me I was not a woman even though my daughter was with me.

Teddy should be the mayor of Venice. The bar is tiny but if you want something different, you have found your place. It is self service so go ahead and go behind the bar and get you a glass of wine or beer. Everything must be poured in a glass because who doesn't want to look fancy. Am I right? Have a seat and get ready to be blessed. The German Shepherd will show up at 10 pm. Teddy takes a 5 minute break to walk him and let him do his business. Make sure you pay Teddy as you leave. You know what you had so don't cheat. If you're lucky, Teddy may let you join in on the cowbell. read more

Had a great time, Teddy is hilarious but I warn you! He does NOT like loud talkers or disrespectful people in his bar. Several east coast types were there while I was last visiting and he set them straight! It was rather humerus to watch the arrogance wash from their faces. You can talk laugh and have a great time, just don't yell and try to out talk everyone or use foul language...difficult task for a lot of people on the East coast. Don't miss Teddys if you're ever in the Venice area but get there early because it fills up quickly. Teddy's doesn't serve food but they do have beer and wine that you get for yourself and pay on your way out. Very clean and eclectic. Teddy is very particular about who he allows in so please bring your manners and enjoy yourself. read more

Teddy's After Dark is, to me, a perfect, intimate, romantic, musical, Florida-decor wine bar, just around the corner from the famed Venice Theater. If you like friendly people in a casual, small (15 seats) bar offering music standards from multiple generations, both recorded and those sung by talented owner Teddy James, by all means enjoy this Venice secret. From his years of entertaining he knows a ton of tunes and the composer of every single one - just ask him! The microphone is on a long cord, so you can sing too. The decor is artistically Florida (by Teddy) with perfect lighting. The wine list is short but respectable and you get a generous pour at a reasonable price. A must experience! It as if you got out of the DeLorean after drving 80 miles an hour( ref to Back to the Future), while on edibables. Great little (I mean small) local bar Chrissy is a doll of a server. They have beer and wine only and Teddy great guy tells funny stories and sings the old great songs karaoke style . Wow. Thought the bad comments were just naysayers but Teddy is very odd and is extremely uncomfortable to be around. My wife and i really wanted to check this place out but when we walked in Teddy said we didn't meet dress code. Thight he was kidding at first. We were dressed very average for a cool evening in Florida and he couldn't tell us HOW we didnt meet his code other than we we dressed beachy!? Very strange. Nobody at all in the bar and weird security cameras everywhere. The woman behind him kept indicated behind his back that he is just kidding but he never let us in. We were banned. She was as shocked as we were. I think she works there. Tiny little place with a psychotic owner. I suggest staying far away. read more
