Consistently Delicious with Exceptional Service Café Venice never disappoints! The food is always on point--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The service is just as wonderful--friendly, welcoming, and always attentive. A couple of months ago, we had an Osso Buco special that was so incredible we found ourselves craving it again. Luckily, it's on the main menu, though it was served a little differently than we remembered. The special had a thicker sauce served over the mashed potatoes, whereas this time, the sauce was a bit thinner, and the potatoes were on the side, with the pork bone sticking out. Still just as delicious, just a different presentation. I decided to try something new but similar--the Country French Pot-Au-Feu. Its sauce was more beef stock-based rather than tomato-based, giving it a deeper, more savory flavor. Essentially, it's a fancy pot roast, but wow, was it delicious! Tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the Chasseur sauce, mashed potatoes, and vegetables. Portions were more than generous, and everything was just as good the next day. We stopped in for coffee and a light lunch. The bartender angrily told us to walk to the other side of the bar and talk to the hostess before sitting down as his empty bar. The hostess was on the phone and waived us back to the bar. The bartender was rude to us the whole time. We ordered two espressos while we read the menu. The espressos each cost $5, and we were shocked to see that they don't use a real espresso machine, but rather a tiny capsule coffee maker with freeze dried coffee. If I wanted capsule coffee I would just make it at home for 50 cents. The entire restaurant smelled like day-old fish, and so we decided not to stay to eat. read more

Spinach was a bit odd. Felt like an under seasoned garnish, not a side. Pot Roast and Pork Chop were definitely the meal highlights. Both dishes were well cooked and absolutely delicious. Tonight's special pasta dish had the right amount of spice and a satisfying rich sauce. Stuffed flounder was bland. Cooked well, but wouldn't order it again. Three meals came with a side of green beans. No flavor, no seasoning and we're definitely frozen veggies. Out after a little golf on our 32nd wedding anniversary. Somebody at Jacaranda West recommended it instead of eating there at the club.' We both got Soup & Salad. Both just had water w/lemon. My wife got the lobster bisque and the kale salad with the up charge shrimp. Kale needed to seriously be 'massaged' with lemon or broken down a bit. VERY course and chewy. Dressing was minimal. The shrimp ($9) was almost as expensive as the whole entree. The soup was excellent. My New England clam chowder was flavorful and nice. Not all gummed up with potato mash OR flour or other gloppy stuff. Nicely done. My spinach salad was very simple with leaves, onions and some glazed sugar pecans or walnuts that were really unnecessary and chewy/crunchy. I got this without the Gorgonzola cheese. The dressing was good and not sweet and sugary goo. No parking in their 'lot' so we parked in the municipal lot after cirlcing the block once for curb parking. Walked the 1/8 mile over and back. Service was exceptional. Food did take a surprising amount of time consider the restaurant was very empty. This was ok. read more

So, last night, four of us went to Cafe Venice in Venice, FL. We had a waiter, Jeffery. It started off shaky and continued thru dinner. At the onset, I mentioned to Jeffery that I had a Lactose intolerance, no butter, cream, milk or cheese. He stated that I could have a Filet with steamed veggies. Not saying anything about the existing menu or that he would check with the kitchen and see what I could have. I asked if that was all. He stated well you know with a Gluten allergy. Wait, what, I never mentioned a Gluten allergy I mentioned a Dairy allergy. That told me that he had no idea what the difference was, and did not want to go out of his way to give me an assist. We ordered 3 wines and a beer. When he came to take the order, asked if we wanted another glass of wine. We got the three wines and he pointed to the beer glass and said your OK, which the person was at that time. He took our order. I was going to order the Crab stuffed Flounder. One of the party said, "Do you think there might be butter in the crab?" I asked Jeffery and he said, I'll check with the kitchen. He came back and said, no you can't have it because it has Mayonnaise and stuff.........stuff??? So, I said butter and he said butter. I opted for another dish, he wrote it down and never commented on the choice. Also, the person that had the beer was never asked, the rest of the night, if they would like another. We were never asked about dessert or coffee. Our take was that he wanted us out so that he could turn the table and allow for future guests. As we were leaving the restaurant, two of us were walking toward the street and two stopped to look into a store window. Don't you know, Jeffery came out and asked them. What we didn't like about his service. As they were talking to him, I walked back and started to enter the conversation, but when I showed up he stated, "Well, sometimes things like that happen." And walked away. At the end of the night, the four of us agreed that Jeffery should learn more about the contents of the menu and understand the differences of allergies and what the restaurant can offer. That being said, the food was good. But, if I ever go back there again, I will ensure that I don't have Jeffery as a waiter. read more

I have nothing but accolades for Cafe Venice. Our group of ladies, who we call the JULIETS, dine at a different restaurant for lunch once a month. We have 80 active members and a different subset of our group choose to participate at each luncheon. This last luncheon saw 22 ladies participate. Cafe Venice set up a special room to host our lunch. The service was friendly and efficient. Unlike some restaurants that offer a scaled down menu for large groups, they offered their full menu and everything was perfectly prepared with minimal wait time. I highly recommend Cafe Venice for anyone who is looking for a nice dinner or lunch on the Island. I understand that they have live entertainment in the evening. read more

I had reserved a room for about 40 people for a gathering of family and friends after a funeral service. I cannot thank Kay and staff enough for the most delicious food, service and help. Kay let me bring the flowers for the tables the day before, so I would not have to worry about them after the funeral. I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful restaurant to all my friends and others as well. More like 2.5 not three stars. Arrived and was immediately seated outside for our 6:30 reservation for four. Place was packed. Server Michelle was great. She remedied the lack of place settings for our two guests and pointed out that although my water glass had liquid in it it was water that had been dumped out. I'm still alive so she could be correct. Apps arrived. Risotto with scallops special ($18) was enjoyable. Burrata beet salad needed to have beets sliced thinner, imho. Guests split Caesar salad which Michelle had kitchen split rather than at table. Half-way into our apps I noted that the packed place was decidedly less so. Very much emptied out. That's when the guitarist/singer started. No lie, I could not hear my friend sitting next to me. Could not hear his wife across the table. Insanely loud. Prior diners must have known when to git. Bone-in veal chop special ($42) cooked medium came with thick asparagus (I enjoy the thinner spears), mashed potatoes (looked like an ice cream scoop) and were not tasty, with a thick brown sauce over all items. Wife's veal Milanese was not prepared Milanese by any stretch of the imagination. It was parmigiana. Melted cheese and tomato sauce. Wife decided to stick with it as the other three diners had meals already. Michelle brought out sliced tomatoes and some salad as an attempt to approach Milanese. She apologized and said they were going to fix the menu. Not soon enough for us. Friend had pasta with shrimp special. He said he hunted through the pasta for the shrimp and found them all. There was a mountain of pasta on his plate that he took home. His wife had salmon. Said it was fine. No dessert for us. Saw the reviews about noise level but did not appreciate how loud is loud. Uncomfortably loud. Guitarist/singer is positioned outside the bar area, facing in. Bar was crowded. Forget conversation unless it's by ASL. Not going back.
