Very unique dining establishment set in the rolling farmland of Jones County, Iowa. An old barn building has been transformed into a very trendy dining spot, with three levels. It is a rustic setting, but don't think the décor of Cracker Barrel, it is much nicer than that. Try the upper level outdoor deck for a ideal view of the Iowa agricultural heaven. The menu is varied, with something for everyone. Our party had four different entrees, with remarks like 'very good' and 'ok'. French Onion soup was pretty good for starters, made with swiss cheese, my preference is mozzarella, but still tasty. We shared the Pig Sty dessert, which was large enough for 4 to share. Specials on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sunday afternoons. Our server, Jordan, was excellent. Attentive, but not overbearing at all, willing to explain the menu, and give some info on the barn itself. He also answered our question about the upstairs, reservable, Lover's nook, which is quite unique. He also asked how our food was at the end of the meal, and...he actually asked what they could do to make a dish better. That is a plus. Will most likely return to try some of the other dishes, being as it is a very nice pastural drive. I love this place! Not what you would expect from the exterior of the building. The inside is beautiful as you can see from the photos. Plenty of space in the large dinning room. The outdoor patio is also a great place to relax and take in the Iowa landscapes over a beer or glass of wine. If you have a large group this place is very accommodating. The food was spectacular!!! I had an amazing flat iron steak topped with butter and fried onions that really exceeded my expectations. The pork chops were great as well. I will have to return and try some of the other offerings and I will be sure to save room for the dessert menu next time. It's well worth the journey for the food and ambiance. Our server was very friendly and even secured the last piece of "nightly special" prime rib. I felt bad for the employees. Most of the dining areas are on floors number 2 and 3. They were having to use the stairs constantly. No need for a gym membership. I really wondered about management or lack there of. There was a large puddle of water at the entry door. The host didn't find our reservation. The servers had tables on both levels. I got the last piece of the special prime rib at 7:15 on their busiest day and time. I subscribe to the Iowa magazine and saw an article on the Barn. So we decided to give it a try. Driving from Davenport was a bit of a trip. What a pleasant surprise, the barn was very well done and clean. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. I had the Ribeye and my wife had the Flat iron steak. Both of our meals were excellent. I don't like to order Ribeye out because most times I end up disappointed, not this time! I also had the crispy cheesy broccoli and it to was wonderful. We will be back. The special is prime rib on Saturdays, and I look forward to trying that. They also have a hideaway table for just two people with a spiral staircase leading up to it. We came here for New Year's Eve dinner and was pleasantly surprised by their buffet special that happens only 2-3 times a year (including NYE and mother's day). It was a reasonable price and the offerings included roast beef, bbq ribs, salmon, baked haddock and fried cod for entrees, also green beans, asparagus, mac and cheese, steamed cauliflower and broccoli. For starters, there was a basic salad, stuffed mushrooms and a couple more items. For dessert, my favorite was the tiramisu, which was made using madeleines, not too heavy. Our server, Jordan was excellent. He checked in with us often and was friendly. Our waters were always filled. The decor is rustic, and nicely redecorated from a worn down barn. My wife and I stopped on our way back from our nephew's home in Davenport. We ordered from their Two for Twenty menu. I had the taco salad wow, excellent. All the flavor in each ingredient came out individually instead of the mixed-up mess like most taco salads. Ground beef seasoned moderate level, not all sauced up mush, shell hot and crispy and I know they made it, and very generous. Corn, black and brown beans. The green lettuce torn not shredded, this was a colorful piece of art that came from old town México. I had mine with the jalapeno peppers. The sauce, sour cream and the peppers came on the side. I could pour on what I wanted. Tested the peppers and they were juicy hot with a sweetness, great. They have a full bar and the bartender knows what she is doing. We will be back. read more

If you want a unique dining experience or want to have out of town company experience the beauty of Iowa, then this is your place. Sunsets are particularly stunning. When we first arrived (we had reservation for 6), the hostess told us our table was ready, but that the kitchen was behind and it would an hour for food. Fortunately, this did not happen. The server was very pleasant and efficient. She managed appetizers and food for 6 with aplomb. The menu was reasonably priced (if other reviewers thought that was expensive-Im not sure where they eat dinner?) The food was pretty typical Midwest fare. I had a had the hangar steak that had a spicy rub- a little spicy for me, but flavorful. Others at our table had pork, chicken and a large garden salad. I liked the green beans with sesame seeds. Corking fee was $10.00. So, to summarize, it is a beautiful hidden gem-unique barn transformed into a restaurant. Service was great. Food was reasonably priced-not gourmet but has something for everyone. A little loud inside for me- we couldn't hear the conversation down the table. We've been to Teddy's many times and always have great food. Tonight my husband had their last piece of Prime Rib. It was so dry you couldn't chew it. The rest of meals were great, but that piece should not have been served. We told the waitress and the owner took $5.00 off our ticket. It was a $25 meal, really only $5.00 off? I guess you don't need our business. I am saddened that our small town establishment would treat customers like this. read more

There are lots of unique restaurants and lots of places with really good food, but Teddys is one of the few that I have found where both the ambiance and the food are exceptional. As soon as you walk in, you know you are in a special and one-of-a-kind place. They have converted a real farm barn into a stunning multi-level restaurant that is as clean as clean can be and just beautiful to behold. Add to that some of the most amazing food you can imagine, and I just plain run out of adjectives! We had the garlic shrimp and sirloin with garlic mashed potatoes and there are just no words to describe that meal! (Beware - the 6 oz. steak is a lot closer to 10 oz - bring an appetite). We also had the pork loin, which was succulent and required a take-out box! Although it is not well advertised and is not on a main highway, this is a real gem and highly recommended. read more

I'm disabled. It is very difficult for me to go up or down stairs. When we arrived at Teddy's around noon on Sunday we could immediately see that the dinning room on the lower level was dark and closed. There was no one there to talk to. I struggled greatly to walk up the stairs. I asked the waitress if there was an elevator that I hadn't seen. She said "no" but the lower level is handicapped accessible. For me, that was not an option since it was dark and closed. That was very bad. The meal was only okay. The green beans and mushroom appetizer was a lot of green beans and very few mushrooms. The side salad was very disappointing. It was just lettuce, a few sliced carrots and very little oil and vinegar dressing. They didn't bring any oil and vinegar to the table. There were no onions, radishes, cabbage, croutons or bacon bits. It was very dull and tasteless. The cod was okay but slightly over-cooked. I loved the setting, loved the atmosphere of the old barn. We called ahead for reservations for a larger group for an early dinner - before it got crowded. Got in and got seated right away, only 1 other table in use when we arrived. However since our group was over 8, we got these special little menus with only a few options on it and no appetizers. We waited an hour and half for our food - even though it was from their special group menu...with no appetizers while we waited... then to be told when part of the food was coming out, that they did not have enough of one item that was ordered to serve one person, so they had to then wait longer for another option... Prices were a little high, but the waiting for the food when there were no other customers was the thing we were frustrated with. If they get more cooks hired and trained and get rid of the little group menu (that was of no help anyway), we may try again, but it will be a while before we think about it. read more
