(My great granddaughter was just born and I wanted to meet her on Wednesday morning.) The Customer Service rep listened to my concerns and although waiting on another customer, she told me that she would put me on hold for a few moments and then go to the Bakery Department to check on my cake. She went to the freezer and assured me that the cake was ready. I feel that she went above and beyond for me, and I truly appreciate her efforts on my behalf. Her name is Becky. She is a credit to her department and Shaws Supermarkets. I hope that this will be remembered when it is time for reviews and increases. Furthermore, as the conversation drew to a close, Becky congratulated me again on the baby's birth and wished me a Happy Thanksgiving. How kind!!! However my issue was with our checkout experience. The cashier, named Mackenzie, was not handling our groceries with as much care as was necessary. We're very fortunate that nothing got broken or the clementines that we bought didn't bruise when she plopped then down on her little conveyor belt. She asked for assistance with the soda which I was going to grab and do myself regardless since there was no bagger with her. She did mention that her back was hurting. So my girlfriend had to bag the rest of the groceries herself. She then continued to not-so-gently put our groceries down. After everything was scanned, she took a coupon and flicked it towards my girlfriend instead of simply handing it to me. This was simply rude and an unnecessary way to treat her customers. It is inconsiderate and we have never had an experience like this at this location or at any other location. If her back pain was as severe as she claimed that she couldn't bend, then she shouldn't have been there in the first place or a bagger should have been with her for her shift. Regardless, this doesn't justify her actions with our food items.

The difference in how I was treated compared to the customers before me was extremely noticeable and made me feel singled out, disrespected, and very uncomfortable. I cannot say with certainty what Megan's intentions were, but based on what I personally observed, the experience left me seriously concerned that I was being treated differently because of my race. I do not know what type of customer-service standards Fresh Mart trains its employees to follow, but no customer should leave a store feeling this unwelcome or uncomfortable.
