We have been going to the Ashland MB for years. We live right next to a Stop & Shop in Framingham and will drive the extra distance to Ashland to do our weekly shopping there. The savings are amazing and on big trips, we save an average of 25-35% over other stores. We will admit that the store is older and not as big as the newer MBs. It can make shopping a bit challenging, with narrow isles and the constant restocking they have to do to keep up with the volume. But we find the selection, quality and prices more than make up for the challenges. We have read reviews critical of the employees and don't agree, from our experience. Yes, there are many ethnic employees and English may not be their first language, but they have always been friendly, helpful and have gone out of their way many times to help us find something. The deli and meat sections are great at this location with lots of selections and good turnover. The deli is very busy and the wait can be long, but we just take a number and do our other shopping in the meantime. The produce section is OK, but I'm a real stickler on my produce. The bakery is good and we love their pecan/raisin bread (sells out fast) and their fresh Italian bread. We have ordered birthday cakes from them and they are a family favorite. They recently put in a small prepared food section and we always buy a fresh made sub to have for lunch or dinner. It's a great buy and always tasty. As we said in the beginning, this is an older/smaller store and as a result, has some challenges, but the people, management and the value can't be beat. We love the MB family of stores and respect their business philosophies and will do our best to support them with our dollars. You should too. read more

Yesterday, June 29, 2026, at approximately 1:30 PM, I was in the Market Basket parking lot. I stopped my vehicle to allow an employee who was returning shopping carts to the store to pass. While moving the line of carts, the employee accidentally struck my vehicle, causing scratches to it. Fortunately, the damage was limited to the bumper only. I believe employees handling large numbers of carts in the parking lot should exercise greater caution to help prevent similar incidents in the future. read more

Gross! I purchase some hamburger meat which was supposed to be 93% lean. The top layer of the meat is colored with pink dye, making it attractive. The center is black as though they cooked the meat and place it in the package. I had to return it. Gross! Gross! Gross! Someone is doing a mediocre job at the meat department. No frills super market with great prices. They have great prices, awesome veggies with an array of different types of veggies not just cukes, tomato, and iceberg. I am excited to see Kale, a variety of greens and low prices! $.69 for Romaine Lettuce and green beans for $.89! The bread is baked right there and there is nothing like picking up a hot loaf and the feeling the warm steamy aroma which makes me want to buy butter and slather it on right in the parking lot...oh yum! The store is super busy all the time but why wouldn't it be? The parking lot is terrible. The flow doesn't work. There are people trying to park and walk and carts being brought back but everyone puts up with it to get the savings $$$$ cha ching! Take your worst day at work. That feeling when it's 4 o'clock and your head hurts from your neck to your ears. You're tired and don't know why you keep doing this. You think about your decisions in life and wonder how things may have turned out differently had you done this and done that. You're overwhelmed. All you want to do is get home and have a dinner, maybe a drink - and reset to deal with another day. And then you realize that you're in the 12 items or less line at the Ashland Market Basket. And it's 5pm. And all you needed was an onion. There are 3 people in front of you. One of them has 27 Chobani yogurts that somehow counts as one item. The cash register is being held up by a roll of receipt paper. The cashier needs a void on the 28th chobani because they accidentally scanned it twice. But it's so cheap. That onion you needed was probably .59 a pound. You deal with this because when the employees gave management the finger a few summers ago, you dealt with Shaw's and Whole Foods and your grocery bill went up $30 a week. Market Basket - the Ashland Market Basket in particular, is like a time machine where the only thing that is recent is the product, and even that you double check the sell by label on. When they updated the produce department over the summer, you finally knew what it was like to go to a grocery store in the 90s. And there is no worse place on earth than this place within a week of thanksgiving or Christmas. But you will always come back. You know you are part of some unwritten bargain where you trade your soul for cheap groceries. It's okay to hate yourself for this, because you will hate everyone else in aisle 3 deciding over Raisin Bran - but they hate you too. read more

I grew up in the North Shore so that meant that my whole life so far I have been getting groceries at Market Basket - you can't beat the prices and wide selection of items. Plus, families rely on this specific grocery store. I recently moved to the area and started shopping here. Unfortunately, it's not my favorite location. The small store means a cramped shopping experience every weekend and for me, it's not worth it. I only come here to pick up a few items but it leaves me feeling sad that my favorite grocery store is no longer my go-to in my new home city. I have a love hate relationship with this store - I LOVE the prices but HATE the shopping experience...... If you are shopping on a budget you can't beat this place price wise. If you are a snotty I only eat organic and expensive food kind of person DO NOT COME HERE! They do have some organic options but nothing like you would find in a Whole Foods or other type of market. I only have time to grocery shop at the crack of dawn on Sundays - turns out that is the perfect and only time I would ever come to this store. It gets extremely packed on the weekends and the fresh veggies and even the shelves become very low in inventory and you end up not being able to get some of the veggies/fruit you may have wanted. The fish is always fresh and I believe delivered daily - the older gentleman that works the fish counter on Sundays is an absolute doll and loves to make suggestions. If you are going to the deli - run past everything when you first get there and get your tag - after that do your entire shopping and then come back to wait for your number to be called! Once your done waiting in that line you will almost definitely be waiting in another long line to cash out even though they have every register open. This MB has everything! They cater to the local Brazilian and Central American population with an entire aisle for Goya products, of course. But they also have enough organic and vegetarian items to satisfy my daughter's diet. Their staff is generally helpful and the place is fairly clean. Seriously though, where else can you get ten pound bags of rice, plantains, tempeh or ground coriander all under one roof? Deli and fish counters are satisfactory. Nice breads. The prices at Market Basket can't be beat. Every register is occupied by a cashier which is a rarity these days. Market Basket is almost always busy with shoppers and my one gripe is that there are always workers stocking the shelves which makes it difficult to get down the aisles. My family recently moved to Natick and this Market Basket is the closest store. I am very surprised that a city the size of Natick doesn't have a store, but the drive is relatively short to Ashland. I've been a Market Basket fan for years. Who can argue with the huge savings when comparing with their competitors? This store is not the largest one but has all the things I am usually looking for on my shopping list. The store has almost everything you'd need, and excellent prices. I like the fact that Market Basket stocks shelves throughout the day. Literally the best super market in Metro west when everything is factored in. Clearly the best value. I can save 50 dollars PER WEEKLY trip over ANY Stop and Shop. Great selection of food. Yes it can be crowded at time. Yes the aisles are a bit narrow...and the deli...well get your number, do your shopping and come back because it is always crowded. But lets face it, why would I pay 2 or 3 dollars more per pound for deli food, 2 dollars more per pound for ground beef, chicken etc? bread? 2 or 2.50 for the same 4 dollar loaf at S&S. great mustard selection. If low prices are your deal, this is your store. Otherwise, this place is horrible. Pallets in the aisle. Shoppers walk around like zombies, they stop dead, turn around, no comment. The help is the worst. They either pretend they don't speak English or really don't. More than once I've gotten the excuse it wasn't their aisle when I asked for help. I shop here only for emergency needs since it's on my way home. Otherwise, I drive to Bellingham instead. I should have known this location is bad news when I got out of my parked car and stepped out right next to a hypodermic needle on the ground. On a recent visit, their freezer cases had completely failed and leaked everywhere. It was not cleaned up and caused a terrible sewer smell. I can't believe they kept the store open under these conditions. Thankfully I was in and out in minutes. How shoppers stayed for longer I do not know. As with all Market Basket locations, this store offers excellent prices on a wide variety of products. They have good produce and meats, too. Yeah it's not Whole Foods, it's not Trader Joes. But for what it is, which is dirt cheap basics no frills supermarket, it definitely does really really well. Expect longer lines on weekends, but if your willing to save some coin in return for some time and bargain hunting to find the diamonds in the rough (and a lot of it can be pretty rough), this is the place to shop. Can I rave about a supermarket? Yes, as a serious bargain hunting foodie, I mainly shop here since moving to Mass. Their every day prices on just about everything cannot be beaten. The produce is good to great quality and the variety is amazing for a grocery store. Their bakery is excellent. I love their day old bread rack. But I really love their fresh seafood sales. I have mad some amazing things like fresh deep fried haddock, cioppino with fresh tilapia, fresh calamari, fresh clams and shrimp! I was very enthusiastic about Market Basket when I first started shopping there, but my love has waned over time. It's unquestionably the least expensive place to buy produce, dairy, and meat. The employees are friendly, which is rare these days, and counts for a lot. However... The aisles are very crowded, not just with people, but with pallets of stock. Always. Often you can't keep moving down an aisle until 10 people with carts have passed you from the opposite direction - think of a narrow two-way street when they've closed half of the street for construction. I can't speak for other locations, but in the Ashland store most of the employees don't speak English very well. They're pleasant, but good luck getting help finding something. The other day I needed pea pods, and the first two people I asked got a blank stare and then told me they didn't speak English, and the third asked what I was looking for and then showed me to the pears. The smell near the seafood is overwhelming. I walk past it quickly and wouldn't consider buying any. Bottom line? I shop there sometimes, especially when I need a lot of dairy and produce. Seriously? Again, aren't you guys supposed to be the experts? 4) "You take a risk when you buy meat here." Direct quote from their 14 year "expert." Enough said. Oh, and I wasn't even a new customer. How have I not reviewed this place SOONER! It's great. It's cheap. It's BUSY. Market Basket in Ashland is a great supermarket, it's closer to me than the new one in Waltham, yet that one might be a bit cleaner (it's brand new). That location is always more than busy, it's just overwhelmingly busy! This one is often busy, but still shoppable. It's not like you're bumping into other people's carts every second... Everything is priced MORE than fair. Cheaper than Shaw's up the street, and basically every other grocery store within ten miles. Compared to some of the other Market Basket locations, this one may not have the selection in certain sections (they have sixteen aisles, and I've seen other MB stores with twenty aisles). The frozen stuff (ice cream, popsicles, etc) is located in the far area of the store (awkward spot). The bakery is always clean and the donuts (like everyone says) are just great! Supreme selection throughout the bakery.... Definitely a ton more than an average Shaw's or Stop&Shop. While I prefer Stop&Shop since it is larger, is less busy, is closer to home, and has a larger variety, this place is my go-to whenever I'm in Ashland for the incredible deals! read more

Horrible Market Basket....And Filthy!!! Arthur D. Demoulas you are a great man. Your stores have given us awesome prices and great service. But this Ashland Location is terrible and disgusting. I live in Ashland and I drive 25 minutes away to go a newer and better MB where management and people working there are nice and treat you with great respect. It's true about what other reviewers say. Their manager is a tyrant. I've seen first hand instances but I'm not mentioning them here. The Ashland Location has little choices for healthy choice food options and caters to the obese clientele of lower middle class Framingham and Ashland that can't afford the more pricy healthier choices. Because it's a smaller store, it lacks space and of course the healthier choices get the boot from the shelves because of the lack of space and the lower income people won't buy them because they're more expensive. Not to mention is the old stock not being rotated and you come home finding you've bought food past its expiration date. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE...The produce is always old or older and goes bad quickly. ALL THE TIME!.....ALSO UNACCEPTABLE!......Finally, I had to use the rest room in the Ashland MB and mistakenly walked into the most dirty and disgusting stock room. We go to Market Basket weekly, to shop the specials and our needed staples. Prices are excellent compared to regular prices at other supermarkets. The staff is very hard-working, very pleasant and helpful. The bakery has beautiful cakes and pastries, and I especially love the cannolis. I like a lot of the Market Basket products, which are usually lower priced than the name brands, and are of excellent quality. We often get a rotisserie chicken, hot off the spit, and that is a most reasonable dinner option. My husband often gets a delicious roast beef sub sandwich made to order, at a very reasonable price. There are larger MB stores in other communities, but the size and layout of this store is just right for me --- it is large enough to have everything one needs, but not so large that you get lost and can't find items. Aside from being busy as hell most of the time, this is a great place to shop. It is far cheaper than other competing grocery chains and is worth the time and effort to shop here. The Market Basket store brands as well are far superior to the store brands of other chains like Stop & Shop. Since store brands are cheaper than national brands, it makes it even better. Give me Market Basket oatmeal vs. Quaker Oats any day. If you can get their bread after it is freshly made, that can make the trip worth it by itself. And I guess it's the locale - but the ethnic food selection is great. I specifically stopped in for dry black beans - there was a huge selection - different brands and different sizes. Simply the best! Since moving to Boston, we shopped at Star/Shaw's, Stop & Shop, and Roach Brothers. Not much difference between and among them. For years, a sister told me to try Market Basket. We stumbled on the Ashland store about a year ago and have happily been going there ever since. The prices--for everything--are amazing. No contests, no gasoline discounts, no free turkeys (with $500. spending), just low prices. We estimate that we save at least $75.00 per week. The vegetables and fruits are fresh, high quality, and sold at much lower prices than at other market. For example, they almost always have six or seven varieties of apples at $0.99 per pound. (Other markets often have one person stocking the fruits and vegetables. MB has a full-time person just stocking the apples while two or three other workers and handling the vegetables and other fruits. The Deli has the same brands as other markets at much lower prices. My kids love Land o' Lakes American cheese, which MB sells for $4.99 and, on sale, at $3.99. Star Market has it on sale this week for $4.99 and normally sells it for $6.99. Other reviewers have complained that the store often is crowded (true) and that checkout lines are long (also true). The Ashland store is relatively small but people have told me other, larger MB stores also are crowded. However, we never have trouble navigating through the store because people are polite and, at checkout, we have found that the lines move much faster than at competing markets. They often have two baggers at each register during busy times. We have heard about the mammoth Market Basket store in Chelsea but have not been there yet. A sister tells me that it takes longer to shop because the store is so big but they have a greater selection from which to choose. We will go just to experience it. My advice is: try it for yourself. The parking lot is large though so even on weekends it's easy to get a good spot. They do offer the freshest produce around.
