We just bought a house (first time homebuyer) and wanted to replace the carpeting, decided to tear up some tile too, and ended deciding to put flooring throughout the whole house (3300sqft). This wasn't a small task by any measure, and with the whole pandemic looming and everything else, wanted to get moved quickly. Tedford Distributors had exactly what we wanted, in stock, and ready to go. They were able to get installers in just a few days later, and it was a whole team. Basically one guy per room, and they came in and basically knocked it all out in a day. Great experience, I highly recommend. We used Tedford for the replacement laminate flooring when our downstairs got flooded by a defective washing machine. Echoing the previous reviewer: This place isn't much to look at from the outside, but it's the people that count. I'm glad to give my money to small locally-owned business instead of the mega-mart if it doesn't cost me any more. Initially, we found some Pergo laminate at one of the big-box retailers. It would have run $2.79/sq.ft. plus another $0.60/sq.ft. or so for the underlayment. Leyman found some laminate that was almost the same color as what we wanted, was thicker, had a commercial wear rating, and he did it for $2/sq.ft. WITH the underlayment included! It's just nice to deal with people whose job day-in, day-out is dealing with flooring and who can answer your questions. I highly recommend you skip Home Depot and Lowes and look here instead. You won't be disappointed. read more

Highly recommend this long-time local shop of awesome folks! Dan and his crew are excellent, and so is the quality of material they offer. I love our new floors so much! After the Big Freeze of February 2021 and a burst pipe that covered our entire downstairs in water, we had to figure out how to wrangle all of the needed repairs. We had already identified Tedford to replace the floors based on a recommendation from a friend, then later found a general contractor and learned that this is why you work with a GC: they wrangle all of the different trades-folk for all the different pieces of work that has to be done. We stood by wanting to keep Tedford as our floor-folk since we had spoken with them first, our GC agreed, and Dan was such a pleasure to work with! Very go-with-the-flow and ready to pounce when the tear-out, dry-out, drywall rebuild, painting, and cabinets were done and then it was time for floors. They swooped in and were done in two days (floors + stairs) then one last quick visit for touch-up. read more

If you are in Austin or Central Texas for that matter and go anywhere but Tedford to get tile or hardwood floors you are nuts. Terry is fantastic. He has incredible patience having to put up with my wife who is a nut job when it comes to picking these sorts of things. We ended up going with natural marble that they had for an insanely low price of $5.00 per sq foot and in the big box stores they either don't have anything remotely as nice and if they do it is like $20-$25/foot. We got lucky that they had just enough marble for us to do our master but if you hit them right, it is like hitting the jackpot. My wife was there a number of times and they were incredibly patient with her and the last day (when we finally bought everything) I was there and met Lehman Tedford. He is a right out of central casting for an old southern gentlemen who is a bit full of it but in the best way possible. Love that old guy. Bottom line is go and get your tile, hardwood, river rock, granite-- basically anything and everything you need for a remodel from Tedford. See Lehman if you want to have your ear talked off and laugh out loud but see Terry to get some "bidness" done. He is the man. read more

We got our tile here, and it was a great tile at a great price. This is all I'd recommend using these guys for however. We decided to have them install it, and it was a whole house job. They contracted to a guy Mr. Tedford swore up and down was the best. While Pedro and his team did a decent job and were very kind, there were some disappointments. 1. We asked them to start at one end of the house and go to the other, since we left our cats in the garage during the job (coming by each day to feed, water, and spend time with) and hoped to move them to a finished room asap. There was never a finished room, everything was finished at once so the cats were stuck in the garage for 11 days (this was February so temps were ok). 2. We were told the job would take 4-5 days, it took 11. While that's generally expected it is still frustrating. We had to extend our plans to stay away by double the expectation, and our poor cats were stuck in the garage. 3. They nickeled and dimed us to death. In trying to save $, I chose not to spend the $90 to have one of the bathrooms accessible during the job. They of course kept one usable, the guys had to be able to go, so this cost was pointless. They also charge $150 to move the fridge and $150 to move the stove, because Mr. Tedford said they'd have to use a plumber to reattach everything. I chose to move my fridge myself out to the porch to save the $, so it was outside twice as long as expected. I watched how they did the stove, since I was there to feed the cats, and all they did was move it out enough to tile and move it back - the gas was never unhooked so the cost was again unnecessary. I felt taken advantage of, which always makes me feel a little sick. 4. They had to come back and fix things several times, though that's probably to be expected. 5. The biggest issue though, and the reason I am writing a review, is that the work crew broke our wall hung TV screen, which we didn't notice till we'd paid the final payment. When I told Mr. Tedford, he said he'd take care of it. He asked how much it was, and I was lead to believe he'd send me the $400 to buy a new one. He sent me $100. I asked him about it, and he said again he'd take care of it. It's April now, and it's therefore been well over a month for him to 'take care of it' with no new check. I no longer believe he'll do as he said; and that's disappointing for this 'done with a handshake' kind of business he has. read more

Tedford Distributors is THE best tile store in Austin - primarily for the people, service, and value. Terry took me around their tile lot in this July heat, and was so patient in finding just the right tile to match what I wanted. Tedford, a locally owned business, values their customers and go out of their way to meet customer needs. When they didn't have what I was looking for in stock, Terry gave me the phone number of a craftsman who makes what I want. I also spoke with one of the semi-retired owners, and he told me a short history of the company - and how they always have focused on customer service first. I have never written a Yelp review before, but thought Tedford Distributors deserved a shout out for providing the best customer service I have ever experienced in Austin. If you want really good flooring but your budget is small, here's the place to go. Now you may be shocked at the lack of store when you go, but don't let it scare you off. They have some really good products out there in their yard. Nothing wrong with them either. They have awesome install too. I had my stairs carpeted & took Tedford's carpet sample to other retailers. They said it was a great deal that they could never match! Stairs are tough too but the install & price was great! I needed tile for an under the stairwell closet. I priced all over town. I got this great stone look porcelain with the color that goes all the way thru. It was set in a subway pattern since the tile was rectangular shaped. The grout lines are thin & straight & have a consistent width. It looks awesome! We also got a thick, plush carpet for the bedroom. You can touch it & it doesn't squish down. When they laid it & it had a seam line. They said give it time to see if the seam would settle out. It didn't. So they came right back out & fixed it without hesitation. They've been in business a very, very long time. They know flooring. They sell a variety of products-laminate, carpet, tile, some linoleum (I was looking for a small cheap piece to put under the cat box) & wall tile & I think granite countertops too. They selection for carpet seems to be limited to basic styles & colors. The stuff in mainstream homes. Not lots/or any patterns or high low. Their inventory changes all the time. Good stuff for rental houses or if your selling a house. Leyman & the staff are very personable & friendly & very helpful. Their business is built on customer satisfaction & they do a great job. read more

I am very disappointed in this company. I paid a lot of money for wood floors. After paying a lot for my floors I expected to have painted quarter round. In case you don't know primed is crap and stains, and you cant even clean it. I know many people who have put in wood floors, and the quarter round is PAINTED not PRIMED. The floor, they said could not be scratched is scratched by every day by little things. I did contact this company with my issues and there was nothing done. I would never recommend them. read more

I have used Tedford to carpet two houses, and replace tile in one of them. They have a great selection of products and offer incredible values on their in store holdings. They dont have a fancy showroom and its obvious they pass on the saving to you. Their installation teams were prompt, clean, and exhibited great workmanship. Terry Ross was low pressure and you never felt like you were being sold. He went through all the pros and cons of each offering and we fell like we made an educated choice.
