I have no idea how the auto repair service is - but the guy who works here on Saturday is a total jerk. Got a tire blow out in a rental car and pulled in to this place. Tried to get air but realized the sidewall was blown so I couldn't go anywhere. Backed the car into a stall in front of the service door - since they were closed on Saturday. I was a female with a child and it was after 7 pm...called AAA and was told it would be hours before they could come tow it. The guy working there came out twice to (very rudely) tell me I needed to move my car...even though I told him I was waiting for a tow truck and the tire was sitting on the rim...Like PLEASE...call a tow truck! That's why I was waiting there in the first place.... Total ass. read more

Re-submitting because I think about this sometimes and it still ticks me off. in 2024 I brought my car into Teele Square Auto for a significant mechanical repair. After leaving the vehicle there for a couple of days I went to retrieve it when the repairs were done. I was shocked to find a new and unsightly dent and scratch on my car that was not there when I brought it in to the shop. After repeated attempts to have Teele Square take responsibility for the damage, I was told that while it happened on their watch, they would not pay for the damages. They had parked my car on the street to maximize space in their garage/gas station, and claimed the damage must have happened while the car was on the street. I shouldn't have to argue that regardless of how the damage occurred, the car was under their care during the incident and should be on them to take fault. Many hours were spent trying to get to the bottom of the situation, and ultimately I was rudely disregarded by the manager. Will never go here again, and my petty a** will keep spreading the word whenever I can. read more

Waited for an oil change, they found that weird. Every oil change I've ever done,the mechanic asks if I'm waiting for the car to be serviced. Don't know why these people think it's odd. Not everyone has someone to drive them back and forth for a simple oil change. Consider this an expensive oil change. read more

I would give them ZERO star if that was an option, they are so unprofessional and they treat their customers like a garbage, the office is so dirty and not clean in addition they are NOT HONEST !!!this people are a RIPOFF, I had an electric brake problem , it was just simple issue where they did clear the code using computer, they charge me 215$ to fix this issue including 0.4 mile towing, they said they have to go there 3 times since a car was blocking there way - I guess that was another excuse to RIPOFF a customer, I took my car to my mechanic same day , they said there is no issue with it , and it can be fixed easily, and they shouldn't clear the codes either so that they can know the issue! I would say they need to learn some manners in-terms of how to treat their customers. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM! read more

Hubby was out of town a few weeks ago so I met up with my lady crew in Somerville. As soon as i arrived, my car started making a funny noise so I stopped by Teele square auto to get it checked out. Walked inside and was appalled. Not a mask in sight. I could feel the Covid particles surrounding me. As a 60 yr old woman with several health conditions, I was very concerned. I've now gone to Teele Square for a couple oil changes, inspection stickers, and an issue when my car kept dying and they couldn't find a reason (pretty sure it was my automatic starter, which they did not install so not their fault). Anyways. They didn't try to sell me anything when they couldn't find anything wrong. So I thought they were fairly good and honest. I went to get an oil change a couple weeks ago, and they called saying my rear brake pads were "metal to metal" and didn't have much left (in addition to trying to sell me on replacing the cabin filter, but that's expected). My car is not old and has less than 30k miles on it. Being a woman and it being the first time my car has really had an issue, I decided to bring to the guy my parents have been going to for as long as I can remember. It's a drive but I trust him. I bring it there and he tells me my brake pads are perfectly fine, not even close to needing to be replaced. I'm not sure if they tried to rip me off or if they half ass looked at the break pads (didn't take the wheels off and therefore couldn't really see them). Whether intentional or a mistake, I won't be back. Can't risk spending money on things I don't need. I'm honestly disappointed because I was hoping to find a place I could trust in Somerville. read more

Don't trust these guys. My inspection sticker had expired and my regular mechanic was busy so I figured I'd take it to these guys since they were nearby. They failed me, claiming I needed all sorts of expensive work done before they could pass me. Suspicious, I decided to wait until my guy was available to have him look at it. I figured if he said the work was needed, I'd believe it and have him do it. It turns out when my regular mechanic had my car it needed no work and passed inspection without any problems. read more

First visit to this shop since it's close to home and I realized I needed a last minute inspection. I went in at 4:30 and their shop closes at 5. Got gas here on the way too - it's full service and the person pumping was fast and nice. Walked into the shop area and waited while an Uber driver talked with the mechanic about a failed inspection. Asked if they could squeeze one inspection in and the person behind the counter said yes, they could. Pulled my car up, registration and key in the car. There's a little waiting area with a few seats, 4 or so, and a free wifi password on the wall which was super nice so I could still stay connected to work. Less than 20 minutes later I had a new passing inspection and sticker on the car. They take cards and all. Courteous and fast service. I wonder if some of the reviews here are due to the thoroughness with which these folks inspect - some places are not as thorough it seems. Regardless, it was a good first experience. read more

I'm surprised to see any bad reviews for this place. You can't vouch for what happens in a place *every single time.* All I can say is that I've gone there for many years, and had probably 10+ things repaired on my junker cars over the years. They do great work. When they fix it, it stays fixed. My cars are ancient, and they keep them running. They are good about helping me figure out what *must* be fixed, and what it is optional to fix. They answer all questions. Eli is extremely easy to deal with, as are all his employees. I'm a woman. No one there is never sexist to me. I've never had a single problem with the many major repairs I've had on any of my cars. When one of them finally gave up the ghost, I took the used car I was replacing in to inspect, and Teele Square Auto gave me advice about how to get the dealer I bought it from to fix it--even though they'd obviously be the place I'd go to fix it. (Off topic: That Massachusetts Lemon Law is your friend. Take the car in to the dealer you bought it from right away. Don't let a used car dealership intimidate you. You also have the right to return the car in 5 days to a private party, and receive your money back.) I even like the guys that pump the gas. They're always nice, even though they are out there in the freezing cold, and the blazing heat. At first, with big-ticket repairs I would double-check the price. But Teele Square Auto was always a better price than anyplace I went to double-check. So I don't bother now. read more

My third year here for inspection. Two stars for previous years but inspections are nothing special. My beloved mechanic doesn't do inspections and recommended this place. They've been nice, staff are nice. BUT the owner could have told me when my inspection failed the red R means unsafe to drive and police can pull you over and ticket/tow your car. Plus it's illegal to park on the street. All my friends learned something new too. I know I'm supposed to know the laws but come on, it's his job!!! My car is aging and I wasn't upset anything. Just asked how long do I have to get it fixed. If I were yelling, rude or demanding it pass sure just let it go, don't say a word. But I wasn't upset, very matter of fact because that's LIFE! He just cocked his head and shrugged saying 60 days. Does he care about customers he serves? Is it because I'm not spending money at his garage to fix my car? I can not fathom why he wouldn't tell a customer, FYI! I'm originally from NH. It's a pass or fail state, NH doesn't ban you from driving. (Live free or die, they really don't care) Customer service is a value I hold high and as a woman especially in the car repair industry. We all know the horror stories of mechanics and gender discrimination. I've fallen more than once for it. Shameful. I'm not saying the service is shoddy I can't speak to that. I'm not even upset but I cannot/will not recommend their services or go to them again. I'm pretty sure (at least from his demeanor) he won't care but if I were a business person every penny and every Yelp counts! read more

I needed a place near Davis Square to get my tires switched out and my brakes checked. Teele Square auto was great! I could drop it off right away (Friday after Thanksgiving). They had my winter tires put on within a few hours & my brakes fixed by the next day- for a very reasonable price. Everyone working there wore their masks and were lovely to work with. read more

I went to Teele Square Auto to get the inspection sticker on my car renewed. During this process he cracks the windshield right by where the old sticker used to be. He places the new sticker on top of the crack. As I wait in the waiting room inside of the gas station, he comes to tell me that the inspection pass and that I'm "all set". After I make the payment for the inspection and hands me report he tells me: "By the way, you have a crack in your windshield... I'm going to let it pass this time, but you need to have it replaced soon..." I told him that there was no crack in the windshield before and he tells me that I might not have noticed it because it was by the lower right portion of the windshield where the inspection sticker sits. I found this really hard to believe, I know my car very well; if the crack was there befire the inspection, I would have seen it. So I checked the video recording on my dashcam to see if there is evidence of him cracking the windshield. The video does not show the full frame, but it can be heard when the inspector removes the sticker, and then discusses with the other inspector what happened. This is definitely not a way to conduct a legitimate business. What pisses me off the most if that they lied to my face about what happened. I don't care if they cracked the windshield since the insurance will pay for it. At least have the decency to tell me that they cracked the windshield and apologize. I will not be going back there ever again and I will not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I am from out of state and my car is getting older, starting to run into issues every few months. I brought my car in to Eli and as a girl who could be easy to upcharge on car maintenance, I had my guard up and let him know that the value of the car was at a minimum and I just needed it to last through the winter so to only fix exactly what needed to be fixed. He did just that and charged me less than he was supposed to and let me know what to flag for next time that I could get away with not fixing this time to save money. I appreciate him helping out without taking advantage. He also finished in an extremely timely manor and I had my car back 2 days before expected. read more

I've used these folks for over ten years, for all my auto needs. I wouldn't THINK of going anywhere else. (I know a thing or two about auto repair myself, and as a self employed woodworker, I'm familiar with customer service as well, so having just read a number of negative reviews on Yelp, I'm seriously wondering what parallel universe these people must occupy?!) Owner Eli is extremely knowledgeable and accommodating, as are the rest of his staff. I get itemized bills, prices are reasonable, work is performed quickly and efficiently, and mechanical problems are usually resolved immediately, no matter how difficult to diagnose or address. I should mention here that I drive used vehicles, which are by definition older and crankier than new, and require more repair and maintenance and TLC. Teele Square Auto is the main reason I can economically justify this approach to car ownership: they keep me rolling for minimal buckos. For example: I was just in yesterday to have a VERY low tire inspected. TIre was removed, checked for leaks (none found), taken off rim and reseated, replaced on car. Back on the road in under 20 minutes. Total charge: $10. End of story. If cars were movies, these guys would be sweeping the Oscars. And their gas prices are consistently among the cheapest in Boston. What's not to like? Take the word of a bunch of cranks, or check this place out and draw your own conclusions. I certainly have. I only have one experience with these guys, but it was fantastic. I drove over a screw somewhere in Somerville, and had a fast leak in my tire. This was the closest auto place, so I pulled in. They plugged the leak and re-inflated the tire in less than 10 minutes, and only charged me 10 bucks. They had saved me from being late from an important meeting, and when I tried to tip them an extra $20, they refused! read more

Not a great choice for inspections. They failed my daughter's car because of a worn wiper and faded headlights. I fixes both issues and she brought it back and then they said there was an issue with the front axIe. I brought it to my excellent mechanic in East Boston and he put if on the lift and said there was no issue. I then brought the car to the inspection station on Main St. In Stoneham and they passed it with no problem. I question their mechanical competence. read more

I have gone here for thousands of dollars worth of work. The owner is a nice guy, the staff is generally friendly, and the work is reliable. However, the parts they use are not, they charge top dollar for brakes and mufflers that don't last. I got my muffler replaced here and the parts rotted out in less than 3 years and now I need to get it repaired (hopefully) or replaced. I have also gotten multiple brake jobs done here, originally I thought it was a fluke, but after two jobs myself, and my fiance getting her brakes done here, I realized they were using inferior parts that wear out quickly. Our brake jobs, even though both of us drive minimally (less than 7k miles a year myself), wore out in about a year. Same thing happened to my fiance's car as well. The brakes are of poor quality, perhaps intentionally, perhaps not, but I'm glad that I moved and have a known family mechanic around me now to ensure that I get my money's worth. Personally, if you need a quick job done, like an oil change, then this place would be okay, but for something that is going to cost a lot of money, I would probably shop around, verify the integrity of the parts, etc. Update: Ugh yeah my review is quite genuine and three years is terrible for a muffler. Also my brakes were replaced by a local shop in Jersey in September 2017. I had to get the pads...calipers and rotors replaced about a year after with less than 10k miles. Additionally, I'm not sure why you think calling me and trying to get me to change my review and then adding this comment are going to make things better. This establishment should be closed down. I had a complete exhaust system replaced (catalytic converter, et al) about 3 years ago that cost me over $1,000. I continued to have problems after the replacement and ended up bringing Eli to Small Claims Court, only to trust him one more time and I got screwed again by believing that I needed one more part to correct the problem. Three years later, I am driving home yesterday on the Xway, my car was stalling, and became very dangerous driving it. My new mechanic told me I needed a new exhaust system that will cost me another $1000. ELI, WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND. I HOPE THAT YOU REALIZE THE HORROR THAT YOU BROUGHT TO YOUR FORMER CUSTOMERS. IF I COULD TELL THE WORLD TO NEVER CONSIDER GOING TO YOUR GARAGE I WOULD. read more

I got an axle bearing replaced here. That part went fine and fixed the problem I was experiencing for a fair price. However, while doing so they noticed that one of my tires was a different brand than the others... generally a bad thing for an AWD car. I know that the outer diameter is the same though so it _should_ be fine. They insisted that the only thing that matters is the brand and offered to replace the now worn off-brand tire with one of the same brand as the other 3... despite the fact that it would be a different diameter since the others have years of wear (which IS bad for an AWD car) This exchange made me nervous about the whole experience and worthy of sharing read more

Went here for an inspection last year and they told me they would fail the car due to having the green single plate on the rear. They said the registry required them to fail cars with the old plate even if it is clearly readable. So I went to the trouble to get a new set of plates I didn't need and didn't want. This year I went to a different station and they told me that what Teele Sq told me wasn't true. Otherwise all those people still driving around with old hardly readable green plates wouldn't be still passing inspection. Be warned. Don't go here for an inspection if you love your old green plate. read more

I dropped off my van today for an oil change and a sticker, but forgot to ask for new wipers, which were little more than loose flaps of rubber slapping pointlessly in the rain. But Eli (the owner) changed them anyway, no doubt as part of the inspection. So, having just read Ka Plow J's review, I don't get it. You asked for the inspection, right? Wipers are part of that. How much more annoying would it have been to show up and not have the inspection sticker because Eli needed your approval on the $18 first? I agree with Danielle F. that the cash/credit for gas thing is a little dodgy. But I've noticed that at other stations too. I bet it's a violation of the credit card terms. But being a bigger fan of Eli than the vultures running Visa/Mastercard, I say go ahead and stiff the bad guys for the $0.04/gal. As for general repairs, we've never had any problems, only good service. We've never had any major work done by Eli, since our van isn't all that old, but, like others in the neighborhood I know, I wouldn't go anywhere else. I trust Eli. And if the attendants at the pump are sometimes a little crabby, who wouldn't be, standing there all day in the blazing sun or blasting cold, breathing fumes? read more

These guys are outrageous. They tried to charge me 3x what the actual repairs were worth. I live less than a block away and decided to take my car in for inspection. I knew it was going to fail because the catalytic converter had been making funny noises and the check engine light was on. They found a host of problems including a tire that didn't pass (it had been replaced less than 5000 miles ago). I then asked them to run diagnostics on the car to see what was the problem and they said that i needed a new catalytic converter and a new oxygen sensor. Eli, the man who many of you claim to be a great guy, told me over the phone that there are no after-market part for my vehicle and that it would be an expensive repair. Realy? No after market cars for a '98? What world are you living on? He quoted me almost $3000 for the repairs! The second that I got off the phone I went online and called other places- the highest quote that i got was $800 and they told me that I would most likely not need an oxygen sensor because the problem should be resolved with a new catalytic converter. I got to pick up my car and tell Eli that I found after market parts and that everyone else was charging me a fraction of what he quoted me. All he does is look at me with a dumbfounded face and decides to play stupid pretending he didn't know. Really?!? Asshat. Bottom line- these guys are price gougers and trying to cheat people out of their hard earned money. I refuse to even get gas here any more. read more

This service station is nuts... as in bad nuts. They did three pieces of work for me, one at the Teele Square location, and two others at their Broadway station, in Arlington. The first job they did was on my Volvo V70 brakes, at Teele Square. I thought the work was well done at the time, and so gave them two more pieces of work We had a 1999 Honda Odyssey that needed 1) a tune up, and 2) a new timing belt. The tuned it up, but I had to take it back multiple times before they got it right. Then they did the timing belt work but left some electronic sending unit dangling in the engine compartment (ie. forgot to put the two anchoring screws on it). We could hear some strange sound from under the hood. The unit was dangling onto a fan belt pulley, which wore the plastic casing away on it. They wrapped tape around it and secured it properly. The above was on the order of $800 worth of work, both jobs done badly. At that time I decided this place was a bit shoddy, and I asked the owner Eli if he could "make it right", maybe giving me a discount, or ... who knows what he could offer. I just asked him for some help. He said he could give me free oil with an oil change. So not the labor, but just the oil. I found that laughable. (It reminded me of that scene from the movie "The Jerk", where Steve Martin is running a shooting gallery / amusement game, and is showing a customer what she will win if she wins the game... and Steve points to the smallest item on the shelves.) It was hardly any compensation, and why would I let them touch my car again if that was the best the owner could do for my troubles! So I never went back. Then just last week the first brake job they did on my Volvo V70 came back to haunt me. I just tried to post the following on the web form on their their "Contact Us" page http://www.teelesqauto.com/contact-teele-square-auto-somerville-ma.html However, when I submitted the form there was an error that showed that the form has never worked correctly. Here is the error: "Sorry, We are unable to send your message at this time. Please try again later. ERROR: Invalid Send Parameters: Missing TO email address" So I am posting that message here, in the hope that maybe Eli will respond... although I doubt he will... who knows. Here is the message. "Eli, I brought my 1998 Volvo V70 for you a few years ago, when the right rear brake line failed. You fixed it. Just last week the same brake line failed again. The garage that fixed it this time took me under the car and showed me that a compression coupling, which you had put into the line to repair it last time, had failed. They also told me that is illegal to put a compression coupling into a brake line. So I had to pay $200 to have your work fixed again, and it was done illegally the first time? Please advise. This is an update to my negative review of 10/16/2014. I spoke to Eli and he explained the repairs he did last time, which didn't include the rear brakes. The rear brakes were indeed installed incorrectly and failed, but apparently it wasn't any fault of work done at Teele Square Auto. Eli reiterated that he stands behind the work done at their shop and made good on that pledge. If the rear brakes were installed incorrectly, it must have been done elsewhere before I ever visited Teele Sq. Auto. read more

I've been going in to Teele Sq. for around 15 years (at least) now. Eli is honest, straight forward and direct. He has quoted me for jobs and when the work got more involved/complicated he's not charged me over the estimate EVER. His employees are loyal and honest too. They develop a relationship with the customer and will do whatever it takes to help you. They've even offered me rides home (I live in W. Medford) but it's only a few miles so I usually walk. I can't say enough about them as professionals and as human beings. My whole family utilizes their services (stickers and gasoline) too! read more
