My windshield wiper fluid stopped working this winter, so I brought car to Volsar - they found and repaired the problem same day (a blockage in the hose) and replaced rear wiper blade & checked a few things I asked for (which ended up not needing any work), all for a reasonable price (~ 160$). My car is new-ish, so I hadn't been recently until now, but I recall good experiences with them from my old car (early-mid 2010s), and also my partner used them for tire replacement and had a good experience. I don't want to discredit them as far as there quality of work they do and products they use but giving you an upfront price on labor then obviously taken a quarter of the time to do the job is pretty much stealing to me but it's the same as way auto dealers charge and take what they can from you ... when they wanna take your wallet form in response to tina d i never approved the 180 dollar a/c check that you guys did . which is waisted now because i couldn't afford your service prices so all the freon is gone because of the leak i had. Recently me and my wife purchased a 1967 FJ40 Land Cruiser with a Chevy 350 V8. Volsar Automotive services has been leading us through a rolling restoration on it. It has a solid Arizona frame and it drives but it needs a lot of work. I was having trouble finding an experienced classic Toyota Land Cruiser mechanic until I met Gus at Volsar. He's currently working on several cruisers including mine. For the amount of research and work he does his prices are incredibly fair. I really appreciate that he walks me through and explains everything he is doing. He will physically point out what's wrong and will explain the solution until you understand. For example he just replaced a busted hacked together engine mount installed by the previous owner with a beautiful custom welded bracket and robust damper system that has dramatically improved the ride. I plan on continuing to take my FJ to Gus as we undo previous owners mistakes and start to introduce some of the classic land cruiser spirit back into the truck. The worst experience of my life. They are thieves or should buy glasses. I went in for a simple oil change and they told me I needed to spend thousands to fix my car. I left and went for a second opinion. The brake lines that they told me were rotten not only did not need to be replaced but had no rust on them at all. The front suspension work they told me it needed was also false. I went back to the garage that did my state inspection and they rechecked my suspension. There were no issues. Just to be re assured I went to another shop and they also told me there were no issues. I had to pay both garages for the inspection and lose a day of work due to the lies spewed by Volsar. Had gone for a last minute oil change at a local Jiffy Lube (I usually try to avoid those places, but I was overdue, and they were open on the weekend). A week later I started noticing massive oil leaks from my car. I took it back to Jiffy Lube suspecting they had messed something up. They told me there was something wrong with my engine and sent me away. Both concerned and with my spidey sense tingling that something wasn't quite right, Volsar was recommended to me and I went. Gus was great, took me in last minute and immediately noted that Jiffy Lube has misaligned the new filter, resulting in the oil leaks. He fixed the problem quickly at a very reasonable price, and even offered to write up a memo for me to show to Jiffy Lubes customer service for my complaint. A previous shop borked a brake job breaking a rusty bolt and said "here's your car we can't fix it". Was hoping that Volsar would be able to undo the crap job. Brought in my 06 Subaru WRX as soon as they opened up. Spoke with Gus and explained the broken bolt and other issues with my brakes. Also requested an oil change. I left the car at the shop and headed to work. A few minutes later Gus calls with the list of issues: *New brake pads and rotors all around. *Leaking CV axle. The leaking CV axle I knew about but had been holding off on the repairs. I was happy that Gus spotted it and brought it to my attention. Figuring it'd be a good time to have that done, I OK'd the repairs. By the end of the day I had new brakes, CV axles and fresh synthetic oil! Gus and his crew were able to remove the broken bolt and a few other rusty ones. We had a slight issue with processing my card for payment. My BOSCH card didn't take so I had to use my regular card. After a few days Gus was able to correct the issue and reached out to me to redo/refund the charges. It wasn't necessary, but I was happy with the customer service that Gus showed. I heard something pop under my hood as I was driving down I93, and immediately the check engine light came on and I was experiencing reduced power. I decided to find a local mechanic rather than risk parking it and then not being able to start it later that night. Luckily, Volsar was close by and i described the problem to them. Gus was able to determine what the issue was just from the description and let me know that it was probably an engine misfire, and that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. I left the car there over the day, and they let me know when it was ready. The fixed the issue as noted, and for a very good price as well. read more

My experience at Volsar was by far the best experience I've ever had with a mechanic! I picked this place based on positive Yelp reviews mentioning how honest Gus is. (Gus is the owner.) I feel like I've been taken advantage of pretty much every time I've taken my car in for repairs in the past, and I've lived all over the East Coast and had lots of repair work done over the years. Needless to say, I'm pretty darn cynical about the odds of finding an honest mechanic. The Yelp reviews for this place seemed too good to be true, but I'm new to the area so I had to take a chance. Here's a list of all the reasons I will always take my car back to Volsar: 1.) Gus gave me a super-rough estimate over the phone based on what I told him other mechanics have told me needed to be done. That rough estimate (without even seeing the car) was already hundreds lower than other shops I checked. 2.) Gus told me that if I brought the car in early in the morning, he could have all the work done by 5pm THE SAME DAY. I didn't actually get the car there at opening, which is 7:30am (I'm not really a morning person), and I had a long To Do list (brakes, exhaust system, battery, tires, oil change, and lots of random little annoyance problems). However, not only did Gus get everything done the same day, he was done 3 HOURS EARLIER than he promised! Most other shops I talked to said the work would take anywhere from a few days to a whole week! 3.) He actually talked me OUT of a couple of expensive repairs/parts! He very patiently explained what the REAL problem was, gave me a couple of options for repair and explained why other guys might have told me I needed more extensive work (mostly greed). 4.) While my car was already there, he took it upon himself to fix a couple of little problems I wasn't even aware of (like my tires needing rotation and balancing) at no extra charge. 5.) My grand total for all the work was HALF of what he quoted me on the phone! Granted, he determined that a couple of the services he quoted me on where unnecessary, but the final number was still way lower than I expected. 6.) I was treated with respect throughout the entire process. He makes it a point to remember his customer's names. He doesn't speak down to people who don't know anything about cars. (I witnessed this phenomenon several times with other customers while I was there.) He didn't belittle or judge me for not having had some of this (really important) work done sooner/at an earlier stage of disfunction. (I was pretty much at the point of saying a little prayer every time I stepped on the brakes...) Also, the place wasn't littered with dirty magazines or calendars, and he mentioned that he doesn't allow foul language by his employees. (Not that I am a prude--I have quite the dirty mouth myself--but I think it says something about his professionalism.) 7.) While I was waiting for my friend to pick me up after dropping off my car, I saw like three (seemingly long-time) customers come in and hand over the keys to their BMWs. If they can trust their fancy-pants cars to Gus, I feel like my sad little 10 year old Ford is in good hands. 8.) Did I mention my car runs beautifully? A couple of things other people might care about (but not me!): There's not much of a waiting area. There are three chairs crammed together right next to the counter. There's no coffee or interesting magazines for customers, but there is a TV. Like I said, I don't really care about these things (Egads! I had to make CONVERSATION with someone for a few minutes! The horror!), but for pampered anti-social types, hit up Starbucks on the way there and bring your own entertainment. Overall--efficient, quality work, fair prices, honest treatment. An honest mechanic is hard to come by! These guys are legit, I found them through yelp and took my cars to them for the last 3 years I lived in the Boston area. Gus is a good guy and won't rip you off. No loaners or anything like that, but it keeps their overhead low and they get the job done quickly anyway. I hate taking my car in to be repaired. I just know the person is going to try to take advantage of me. Gus, however, had changed my attitude. I feel confident when I take my car to Volsar that it will receive the quality care it needs, nothing it doesn't, and I will be charged a reasonable amount. When I first moved to Somerville my 9 year old car was in desperate need of repairs. I had been quoted $1600 in Worcester for the transmission work it needed. I took my baby to Volsar after I moved, and they took care of everything for less than $700. I am confident that they did all the work that was needed, and cut through the bull the other repair shop was shoveling. My car drove remarkably better after the work they did. I now take my car there for everything. Volsar's oil change is a little bit more than some of the large chains, but I know I am getting quality service for my 10 year old car, and I can trust them if they tell me she needs a little TLC. Just had my radiator replaced. Gus and his team do a good job. They are very transparent, upfront, and will educate you on what's going on with your car. Been coming to Gus for years. He helped keep my wife's klunker going for years after the model was discontinued by searching and sourcing parts from the other side of the country at times. Amazing dedication and willing to do whatever it takes to keep cars going and is more than reasonable for good, quality work. Also a few years ago I made huge mistake when I got new rotors for my Honda at a tire place and had issues only 200 miles later -- should have known better, but Gus took care of it and I once again felt safe on the road. I found a mechanic I can trust at Volsar Automotive. I recently brought my vehicle in for preventive maintenance as my car just hit 70,000 miles and was beginning to run a little choppy. These guys explained to me in terms I could understand what issues they saw with my vehicle. They also noticed that my brakes and rotors were in need of a replacement. I explained to Volsar that my brakes were recently installed by another mechanic. The guys at Volsar replaced my brakes and put my old ones in a box and pointed out that they were installed incorrectly causing them to wear down prematurely. I brought my car back to the mechanic who did my brakes with the parts and the information given to me by Volsar. After a brief discussion, I was given a full refund for the botched brake job I received at the other mechanic. Volsar could have just said the brakes were shot and I needed new ones, but instead they went above and beyond my expectations which ultimately lead to a refund from the other place. Thanks again Volsar. Anyways, I waited a few months before leaving this review to ensure the quality of work. I can say with out reservation that the work done was great and the price was definitely fair. My car has been running great and I will be using Volsar moving forward. I got same day service, quality service, and the staff were friendly and approachable. Every time I bring my car here for service, I know Gus will give me an honest and fair price. He has told me when my car didn't need any work at all, that's how honest he is. I have brought him, my list of items that needed work from the dealer, which totaled over $2,000 and after he inspected my car, I only need minor repairs, saving me hundreds of unnecessary work.
