I came in for a tire going flat. Even though they were very busy with only one person there, I was able to be seen in about 30 minutes. My rim was dented and that was causing air to leak. Jimmy and his son are simply amazing. I came to the shop 3 times, including today during the COVID season, and I am always impressed by his service. Earlier this morning, I went to the dealership to do an inspection and the dealer told me that both of my brakes in the back were busted. I need to replace the brake, the caliper, the rotor and flush the brake fluid. They gave me a scary quote of over $1K and I called Jimmy immediately. He broke down all the cost in details for me on the phone and took me right in. I was out of the shop within 2 hours and he even drove my car to do an inspection for me. Everything is handled very professionally. I wouldn't go to a shop because it gives me a cheaper quote, but I go there because I think the owner is honest and trustworthy. My check engine light came on for a 2005 prius. We really needed the car so took it in first thing in the morning. Jimmy (the owner) brought his diagnostic computer out and got to the bottom of the issue immediately. Turns out we had not tightened the gas cap when refueling and triggered an air leak warning. My car had a major malfunction this week after work when I had both my 3 yr old and 1 yr old in the car driving home. I was able to putter over to the Fellsway lot and not only did Jimmy and John keep their shop open late for me- but they drove across town to pick up the part that my car ended up needing so that they could fix it for us to drive home. They wanted to make sure that I could get my kids home safely instead of taking the bus with them in freezing weather. They took the car for a spin, called me and explained what it was as clearly as they could (I didn't quite understand it because it was over the phone, and I don't know cars, but they really made an effort to explain), had it fixed within 3 hours, and didn't charge too terrible amount for it. I've lived in Somerville just over a year and fortunately I was able to find a reliable, professional auto repair shop in my neighborhood right away! I ride by Fellsway Auto Shop (across from Foss Park) daily and their lot is always cramped with cars. In my mind this can only mean a couple of things 1) They do great work and these car owners were familiar and confident enough in Fellsway Auto to use their company or 2) they may be backed up and unable to repair my car in a timely fashion. The other thing I noticed was the exterior of the building was nondescript. Again, I figured either 1) they invested more into their equipment, services and staff/ people or 2) probably not going to work out for me. -full disclosure: I'm admittedly high maintenance. Initially I went to get oil change, inspection etc. When I pulled up in the lot it was so crowded I couldn't find a parking space so I could go in to speak with someone. Luckily, the manager (I think) was outside and said they were booked for the day but said he would get to it the next day. I brought it in and the staff was the height of professionalism. I posted pics when I checked in here so be sure to check out their classy waiting area, complete with car inspired retro artwork. They kept me informed of the progress that they were making as my car was being repaired. The atmosphere was beyond cool, like a chic casual ambiance. This is important to note because car repairs can be stressful. I knew I had time to stroll down Broadway in East Somerville so I took advantage of that and had Mexican Food. My car was ready as promised when I returned. I've since had one high ticket repair done there. I never hesitated to use them vrs running around trying to get "a better deal." The only deal I'm interested in is an honest, competent auto shop that puts my family's car safety first. Their prices are competitive and their quality of work second to none. When I woke up one morning and my car wouldn't start, I was panicked. I didn't have a mechanic in Boston and don't trust car shops not to try to take advantage of me. I didn't have much choice, it was time to visit the mechanic. Luckily, my car started and I drove my car around the corner to Fellsway Auto Repair. Jimmy Tivinis runs Fellsway Auto Repair and is a sincerely nice man. Incredibly helpful and insures that the service is quick. They fixed my starter rapidly and it was much cheaper than I expected. The best part? They didn't try to sell me on more stuff that my car "needs". And when you have a car with as many miles as mine has, even the full-service gas station attendant tries to sell me something (that's another story for another review though). I have been back here several times for oil changes and misc other stuff - the service is always great, quick and cheap. I can not refer them enough. The only minus - they can be bad about calling you when your car is ready. But this isn't a problem if you are waiting or can just drop the car off for the day. Could also be because I have an out-of-state phone number and they are saving on their phone bill? Anyways, GO HERE! You won't regret it. read more

Speaking as a lady that doesn't know a transmission from a tail pipe I'm always nervous about car places. I've been taken advantage of in the past and I'm awfully wary. This place is hands down the best place I've ever taken my car. Jimmy Tivinis, who is the owner and hard working mechanic that runs the joint is honest, up front and his estimates always match the price I'm given in the end. In the past three years my boyfriend has had a lot of car trouble, and I've run into my own kinks and Jimmy is where we've consistently taken them. Last time my inspection sticker had expired so he took the car some place else to get it inspected for me-no extra charge! I can't recommend this place enough. They are fast, honest, and well priced. Expect to be materially overcharged and receive bad service. I have no idea what the other Yelp reviewers are talking about "fair pricing" at Fellsway. I was overcharged by several hundred dollars for my BMW 3-series. When the defrost didn't work, I went to the closest place to get it repaired (not really safe to drive without defrost in an ice storm.) I chose Fellsway because of the 5-star ratings on Yelp, but oh how you led me astray. I was overcharged $150-200 for parts alone (I googled the parts by brand name and got a comparable quote from my trusted repair shop in Brookline - love you Dave's Auto!) When I asked Jimmy to substantiate the parts cost before paying the exhorbitant amount, he compared it against BMW dealer costs and told me he was giving me a 20% discount. What a hoax. read more

Don't let the "vintage" waiting area and piles of stuff discourage you. Behind it all is a group of honest, hard-working guys who will repair your car for the most reasonable rate in town. Jimmy & his team are well-versed in both foreign and domestic auto repair and charge a shop rate more competitive than most local shops. They don't believe in rebuilt parts resulting in the repair lasting longer than cutting a few corners to save $. Jimmy will lay out your options, be realistic with his estimate and time to repair, and is flexible in working with the customer to meet time schedules and budget constraints. Car stalled so I had it towed to the nearest shop, which happens to be Fellsway Auto. It was the weekend so I had to wait till Monday, they don't have an answering machine. Went over at 7am this morning, Monday as stated on Yelp as their opening hour but that's incorrect. Anyway, I called at 9am to check up on the progress and Jimmy initially wasn't able to replicate the problem, but pulled codes that the coils might be misfiring. He test drove it several more times and was able to identify the problem. It was also helpful I had past work record in my glove box. Overall Jimmy laid out the issue clearly, was very down to earth and seemed genuinely wanted the best for me. With my approval, he ordered the part from the dealer and fixed another minor problem for me, all for $300. When I went back to pick up the car, Jimmy was very patient and explained in detail what might have gone wrong. He couldn't guarantee that the problem is completely fixed, but I definitely trust him and will go back again, especially since they're literally down the street from me. It was a pleasure to work with them. One tip I'd share is that if you need the turn around to be quick that you call them for updates. They don't seem to have front desk staff, so they might not be as diligent in calling when the work is done. Jimmy seems like an honest guy and pricing is fair. I would have never guessed that my very first Yelp review would be for an auto repair shop, but this place deserves every 5-star review it gets. Brought our mini cooper in for an oil change, and because the brake repair light was on... long story short, these guys ended up having to replace the brakes on all 4 tires, but gave us a great deal, and did the work in 24 hours. We would have spent a heck of a lot more money anywhere else (as we know from a little too much experience), and probably would have had to be without a car for a lot longer. The service was very honest, friendly, and fast, and the price was unbeatable. I get the feeling that these guys are some of the last real down-to-earth, honest, hard-working auto mechanics. We had been taking this car to BMW or Mini dealerships and sometimes European Auto repair shops for the past few years, but the car drives better than ever after being taken care of by the guys at Fellsway. For the first time in months, there are no ominous warning lights blinking on the dash, and for the first time since we've had this car, we didn't have to drain our checking account in order to fix it. We will definitely use this place for as long as we live in the area (but hopefully, for our sake, we won't have to go back anytime soon!) read more

My vehicle has more than 165k miles on it, I've been driving it for 10 years now, and it's had pretty much everything go wrong with that can. So I know a thing or two about crappy mechanics, rip-off repair shops, and massive price-gouging. And Fellsway is the complete opposite of all of that. I love it. Jimmy is professional, knowledgeable, and funny. He's concerned with fixing the problem, not fixing the symptom to cover the problem, or trying to up-sell a bunch of other work. And they charge what's actually fair instead of inflating part and labor costs. Helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient. I can honestly say that I've never been to a better auto place. These guys really do deserve 6 stars for the service they performed on my 2007 Audi A4 2.0T. My exhaust was magically really loud one day and I knew that something had gone wrong with it. I decided to bring it down to Fellsway after work. The guys might be there a little longer than their posted hours which worked out well for me to just drop my car off. I asked them to give me a quote soon as they could the next day. No later than 9:30 am they had called me and explained to me in detail what the exhaust issue was. They were honest and I did not feel like once I was being taken advantage of. Exhausts on these types of cars could be very expensive upwards of $1000. They explained to me that it was simply a clamp that had rotted out and the total cost with parts and labor would be $78. I am very happy with their service and will be bringing my car there for any future repairs or services it may need. read more

The owner is a kind hardworking man who works to do right by his customers. During a week when one of his mechanics had a heart attack and another was on vacation, he worked from 4:30 am to 8:30 pm so that his customers wouldn't be without their cars and so that could keep his commitments to them. He doesn't gouge you either, the rates are fair price for the work he does. He also treats his customers with respect, trying to explain to them clearly what work the cars need. No one patronizingly called me "hun" or smirked at me when I didn't understand industry lingo, as has been my experience at innumerable shops in the area. I was refereed here by people who said Fellsway was a good, honest place. As far as I can tell they were 100% right. Little did I know that my check engine light was indicating almost $2,500 in emission repairs. Jim used his computer to read my codes and did a good job explaining what would need to be done. After he ran a smoke test (I think its called that?) on my "fuel system leak" code (or whatever it was called), after he examined a few issues under my hood, he called me back the next day with a quote. Unfortunately the repairs would cost too much, and even Jim said it was not worth doing. He let me leave my car there over the weekend, and when I went to pick it up on Monday he did not want me to pay him any money. He also provided me with some invaluable information on how to proceed from this issue. All in all Jim made this otherwise crappy experience much better. My car (Mazda CX5) experienced sudden loss of acceleration and started shaking while driving. Jim and his son were friendly and knowledgeable and where immediately able to guess that the problem was due to faulty ignition coils/spark plug when I called and explained what I was experiencing. I stopped by here a few years back based on a friend's glowing recommendation. I had to have my dead car battery looked at. Jimmy was very warm, friendly, and knowledgeable. He and John had my battery replaced quickly and at what seemed to be a very good price. I just recently came by here again with a separate problem. This time I dealt exclusively with John, who was amazingly professional and thoughtful. It ended up that they couldn't fix the problem but they did try to evaluate it and gave me a clear idea as to what to do. They didn't charge me for the analysis, advice, or even keeping the car there overnight. Great guys. I can't imagine there would be a better auto shop out there. My family and I have been taking our cars to Fellsway for years, ever since the original shop opened on Riverside Ave in Medford during the early 90's. Flash forward to present day and it's no surprise why Jimmy has done so well. Jimmy is honest, hard working, reliable, and he truly goes above and beyond for his customers. Above all else, he really knows his stuff when it comes to fixing vehicles. Jimmy's pricing is extremely fair and he and his team can work on just about anything. For instance, over the years I've owned vehicles ranging from a 1983 Mercedes diesel to an F450 dually dump to various luxury cars and I've never taken them anywhere but Fellsway for service and repair. Also, in response to (the only) negative reviews here on Yelp: "Googling" a car part online is not the same as having a professional mechanic install an OEM part direct from the dealer, especially on a BMW. Secondly, "young buck idiots" do not work at Fellsway, nor does Fellsway employ professional greeters. Those guys work way too hard to be called idiots in a public forum. If customer service is everything to you sir then you're probably better off taking your car to Ernie Boch Jr. where you will no doubt pay triple for your service but at least you'll make out with a coffee and (maybe) a free donut and of course, a warm and fuzzy greeting when you walk through those doors. In a world where the natural order of things equals mechanics having your manhood in a vice grip, it is great knowing that some decent shops still exists. I brought my car after it all of a sudden started making a horrible noise without an appointment... or not even calling first. The guy said he could take a look at in in 30 min, so I went on my way and he called me in 20 min saying all it was the tires where lose (that could have been bad in itself). Now being a totally oblivious when it comes to anything with wheels, he could have said it was the combustion silicone gasket that had cracked and it would be $500 to fix.... Do you know what a combustion silicone gasket is? No you don't cuz I just made it up, but I would have believed it! I came back to pick up the care and it was NO CHARGE! read more
