It wasn't really a festival more like a street fair they had very little Apple focuses

This years apple festival has 80 vendors with everything you can imagine. Candles, essential oils, purses, jewelry, home decor, clothing and so much more. Don't forget to buy some apples while you are there. You won't go hungry, lots of delicious food and a carnival for the kids. My son is having a great time on the rides. Eating lots of junk food too. If you didn't make it out today, don't worry it will be open tomorrow too. read more

This little big town of Tehachapi really gives it all when they gave an event. In this case the Apple Festival! I like these festivals. This one was surprisingly large. The usual crafts and service were offered. I perused the flannel shirt sellers, some leather crafters and jewelry. What I like most though is the food vendors. Having had my fill of funnel cakes and Apple skivers in the past I gravitated towards the real food. There were tacos, spiral sliced potatos on a stick and local tri tip sandwiches. The potato line was long, really long so I passed it up. The taco/taquito line was long and after waiting in line over ten minutes I bailed due to no food coming out. The tri tip sandwiches place sounded excellent ( truly a carnivore) so we waited in that line for 20 to 25 minutes only to find out they were out of bread....omg. Well we did get a tray of just tri tip with a couple extra pieces. Surprisingly or not surprisingly not much Apple products. We got a piece of pie of course. They also had a nice kids section with face painting and various things. read more

I have been wanting to visit the Tehachapi Apple Festival for quite some time now and I finally got a chance to make it out here. So first things first, when I hear of "Apple Festival" my automatic thoughts are... Apple pies, apple fritters, apple empanada, apple strudel, apple crisps, apple dumpling, apple cobbler.... you get the point. Anyway, walking up I see a big giant green apple and automatically I was super excited. There are tons of vendors at the Apple Festival and there's something for everyone. They have tons of food stands and little stands that are selling so many different products, from stickers, to garden decoration, to even tupperwares. My favorite apple item purchased at the festival has to definitely be the apple pie funnel cake!!!!! I can't believe that the carnival or any place that sells funnel cakes don't serve this regularly! It's the best funnel cake I have ever eaten!!!! Once we started walking up and down the street to see all the vendors, I was a bit disappointed with the amount of vendors that actually had "apple" type stands. I think this is a fairly new festival so maybe as the years continue to celebrate this festival then there will be more apple items and from previous reviews I kinda feel like there's a bit of inconsistency with what I've experienced, so I think I'm going to give the Apple Festival another go next year and hope for the best. Great town and community fun. Lost's of vendors and things to do and eat. Great family fun, great outdoor festival

The Tehachapi Apple Festival was not everything I hoped it would be. I thought there would be lots of booths selling apple related items, but that was not to be. Although there were at least several dozen vendors, only a handful sold anything apple related. There was even just only one vendor selling apple pies!! That vendor sold out of apple pies before we could purchase any, and we were there before 1pm! Yes, I was quite disappointed in the limited apple choices. There were 3 vendors there who made my day. Moessner Orchards had a booth selling baked goods. I bought some tasty apple pastries from them. Another vendor had some delicious fresh picked apples. The entrepreneur selling the Apple Pie Funnel Cake was what really made my day. That was the best Funnel Cake I've ever eaten!! In conclusion. the Tehachapi Apple Festival was not all I thought it would be. Was it a complete waste of time? No, it was not. I would still return for future Apple Festivals. Got a feeling it is going to get better every year. read more

I first heard of this Apple Festival when I went to a cooking class in Bakersfield and the instructor mentioned it...then over the past week, I read about it in the local Bakersfield online news website(s). I even went to the Apple Festival website to learn more. This morning, I made my way to this annual Apple Festival to see for myself what this annual celebration is all about! About 45 min drive from Bakersfield, but hey - it's worth a drive, as I've never been to Tehachapi before AND I wanted to check out a German bakery in town too. I found parking in a local private lot and proceeded to walk about 5 minutes to the corner of Robinson & Tehachapi Blvd. The festival occupied the entire grassy area of the "Downtown Tehachapi / Railroad Park" location. - approximately 20 booths - 5-7 food stands - mini stage for music performances, local bands, etc. - only saw 3 apple vendors (selling apples from a local orchard, selling apples jams/pastries/cookies, selling apple pies) - the rest of the booths were selling small gifts, knick-knacks Noticed that people were parking all along the street and just walking to the festival...started to get more crowded after 11:20am. There is a separate "for kids" section that included the carnival games/blow-up castles & slides, etc. I think you had to buy tickets for $1 for each ride, but I'm not sure about that part -- just walked right past it! It's a fun little festival for the community..glad they're able to have it once a year. Was it worth my 45 min drive out to Bakersfield this time around? Yes, as I was able to combine it with a visit to a local bakery + see the Railroad Depot Museum too. Would I drive 1.5 hour (round trip) next year for the festival? Tehachapi Apple Festival is less an "apple festival" and more a spattering of street vendors. I attended this small town event with some friends. The weather was pleasant and the atmostphere all that of small town fun. You'll find plenty of MLM vendors - Lularoe, Avon, etc. Not necessarily what I think of when I think "apple festival". There was a large apple drop that was rather fun to watch, a just a few apple treat vendors. Overall it has major potential to be a really great festival, but I wish they'd limit to vendors to selling 50% or more apple related items (I know for a fact other festivals make this mandatory). People come for a good theme - give it to them! read more

It was worthwhile to go check it out. Worth the 45 min drive from Bako and we would go back again next year. I think it is expanding based on prior reviews so we should see more and more growth. There are parking lots and free parking on the street. It was very busy at 130pm Sat but we found street parking, no problem. The festival is not very big, we managed to walk it all. We were there for maybe 2 hours and saw everything - twice. Not a ton of "apple related" things but it was nice to see the community out enjoying the weather and to support local. There were pies for sale, apples by the bag ($10), handmade soaps, Scentsy booth, Tupperware, essential oils, seasonings, jewelry, crafts etc. and some food vendors. The lines for food and frozen lemonade were just too long so it would be nice to see other foodie booths there. What was there smelled delicious though! For Oct, it was a very hot day. Make sure to bring water with you, sunglasses and a hat if you wear one. Fortunately for most vendors, they were nestled in the shade but for the walkers, no shade. There was a central area where Honey Wagon Brewing Co. was set up. We each had a very small cup of beer (apple/pumpkin) called Red Apple Ale that was $5 each. Bigger cups needed for value! That was a refreshing quick break though. There were a lot of things geared for kids (bouncy houses) so hopefully they will expand on the adult fun. The German Bakery was packed, could not get close to that line up, sadly but that is a worthy stop in Tehachapi. So is the Shed if you want to have a sit-down lunch. I noted very loud trains that go by right there at the fest every 15 min. but it kind of added to the whole experience somehow. Dogs allowed but I would not bring yours if they are large or freaked out by crowds or the train whistle. The walking space is limited. read more

Total of 5 booths that had apple related items. Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed the cookie, pineapple and shaved ice booths. I was just hoping for more apple goodies. I was hoping it to be more like the cherry festival at Murray's Farm. read more

The Tehachapi Apple Festival is a family-oriented, kid friendly event. There are numerous bounce houses, make-shift games, and a balloon-crafty clown. Culinary options consist of typical fair food - nachos, hotdogs, BBQ, and tacos. Although families with younger children probably find the event worthwhile, I probably won't return next year. An "apple" festival should have more themed products and activities. For example, we read that there would be apple bobbing and pie eating contests but didn't see any of this taking place. I also expected to see more apple-inspired goods, like dried apple baskets, dolls, pies, fritters, dumplin's, etc. Furthermore, the entertainment was lacking, as we only heard one gentleman on guitar. Some lively bluegrass music would have been a fitting mood enhancer. Last, there were no alcohol venders, and I heard plenty complaining about this omission. Overall, the Tehachapi mountains, train depot, and local shops/bakery are a great backdrop to an event, but organizers should put more effort into making sure that adults are as entertained as the kids. read more
