It's wonderful to go to a movie and enjoy the concession stand! I feel very safe and welcome with the nostalgia I feel when there.

So sad to hear about the closing of THE HITCHING POST Theater. I used to live in Bakersfield and on a couple of occasions, I made the trip to Tehachapi to go see a movie there. Two of my all time favorites I was able to see there were WAITRESS & ONCE. These features were not shown in Bakersfield but were shown during THP "Sundance" series. My kids remember attending The Nickelodeon Kid's Choice awards live feed there complete with a red carpet and All-You-Can-Eat Popcorn and Icees for $5. Definitely a loss for the quaint little city of Tehachapi. read more

Wonderful experience. We saw our first movie here tonight. I love this little movie theater. The seating was comfortable and the prices were amazing! 5$ for a large popcorn is such a breath of fresh air in comparison to the "big guy" competition in neighboring cities. My daughter lost her IPhone in the theater tonight, and the staff were so helpful in helping us locate it. Honest. Friendly. Awesome. I promise we won't inconvenience the staff any further on our future trips to the movies, but our first impression left our hearts full. Thank you guys. read more

Saw our first movie about 2 weeks ago bought t -shirts for the family, And saw DC super pets, Had a great time, enjoyed ourselves very much.. So happy we went ,will be going again soon!!!!! Ive been a hitching post supporter for over 30 years and have always loved that a small town has this opportunity to see movies. Unfortunately my last visit I was very disappointed to hear and experience that you cant use gift cards for the concession stands!! That is the dumbest thing ive ever heard!! Mist people buy gift cards for families so they can get the full experience of going to the movie theater by seeing a great movie, getting fun snacks and drinks! Thats what makes the experience fun. We all know that movie theater snacks are so expensive and most people dont buy them because of that so when you sponsor a family with a gift card you know they are treated right but be able to get those snacks! But not anymore. It makes me sad that we have stooped down to that level especially in times like this. Hope they realize the people they ate hurting by this small attempt of gaining a couple bucks! read more

Food and tickets are Affordable and convenient but the screens and projectors need an update.

Went to take in a movie at the local theater, new to the area, and enjoyed it! This is like theaters when we were kids, basic and affordable. Movie projection quality and sound were fine, the theater was clean with just a hint of that back-to-your-childhood retro-feel of sticky floors, and we had a great time. Snack bar was not gourmet but we had our adequate popcorn and drinks and it didn't cost more than a car payment! This is not the big-city gigaplex. It's a little local theater with friendly kids working it and we were glad to be throughly entertained by Minions while supporting a small-town business. read more

So this is a small theater in a small town. The seats are kind of dated. The staff is usually friendly. The prices are decent enough. Floors are sometimes sticky. All of these are somewhat expected and would normally warrant a three star review, but there must be a deduction for lack of communication. The reason for the lower than average rating is as follows: For those of you who read my reviews, you know that I do not live in Tehachapi but I do drive up there on a regular basis to see family. We rely on websites such as Yelp as well as business websites to aid us in our endeavors. We make plans based upon the listed movie times listed on the website. Most of the time, the website is correct. Other times, not so much, to include Christmas when a sign was taped to the lobby doors stating the change. I am not knocking any company that wishes to close their doors for any reason (much less Christmas), but they could at least mention it on the official website. I don't know that I can recommend this joint to family and friends. read more

Small town theater for all the locals to go to if they don't want to drive an hour away to go to another theater. The prices are not extremely high compared to competing theaters. You could get a jumbo popcorn for $6.00 and an all beef hot dog for $1.00. Not many movies show, but it is a very small theater. The bright side is that they do show the latest movies that just came out. I wish they were open late night for the adults who want to see a late night showing. read more

I went to this theater and during the last part of the movie the sound went out, which made us miss the most important part of the movie.... finding out what happened!! We asked for our ticket money to be refunded and the people at the theater refused, saying we had to contact the owner. I wrote a letter to the theater owner and this was their unbelievable response. =============== Our technical issues are no more frequent than any other theater. These things happen when you deal with machines. Are we perfect, certainly not. Do glitches happen, absolutely. Does your car or computer work properly 100% of the time... doubtful. We are aware of the length of time the sound was out and I can assure you, during those several minutes the portion of the dialogue missed was not critical to the story. Good theater, great price. If you want DBox or reclining leather chairs for your movie experience, you have those options either direction on Hwy 58. Remember...you're paying upwards of $20 per ticket for that "experience", folks. For me, I would much rather enjoy a nice walk through downtown Tehachapi, have a nice meal somewhere in the immediate area and end the day with a first-run movie. You can't beat it. I would like to start by saying that they have giant dill pickles and BURRITOS at the snack bar ! The theater is old, but in a small town like Tehachapi, you can park in front of the theater on a saturday night. Admission is $6.50 for adults and $4.50 for kids. It kinda reminds me of one of the smaller independant theaters in Los Angeles. There are 4 screens, and none of them are huge. The chairs arent the most comfortable things ever, but they serve the purpose. Actually, I cant wait to come back! read more

Hitching Post doesn't have the giant screens, but it has GREAT deals. I can go on Family Night Tuesday and spend $4 for the movie and $6 for a large drink and popcorn- where else can you go to the movies like that?? They also are a huge supporter of the library, donating a showing of the Lion King over the summer for the reading program. Nice and very helpful workers, and great even with field trips! A wonderful establishment. The prices are unbeatable. Last Chance Thursday is even cheaper than family night!! read more

I was here in August for Tehachapi's chalk on the walk and ended up watching "we are the millers" here,Funny movie! The theater is small and has an old town feel but it's nice and i would go again for the price. To the many young ladies I noticed in the revealing and distasteful clothing, if a guy wants to talk to you, he will talk to you even if your butt is in your pants! read more

Cute little local theater, I saw that they had hand held pies at the concession stand as well..interesting mix of food items you can get there. It was pretty cheap and they were playing 3 or 4 movies I think, we showed up about 5-10 minutes after the showtime and the movie was starting so I guess they dont bombard you with previews. read more

Dear Hitchin Post, Please, PLEASE update the interior of your movie theater. You can do so all the while keeping its originality, but Good God, this place is nasty inside! -Update your seating. God only knows when was the last time they were even deep cleaned. -Scub the floors, including the very, very outdated, smelly restrooms. -Update the snack bar. You got some good eats, but...just nasty. There is no harm in shutting down the theater a few weeks to put in new seating, do a deep cleaning..(I'm NOT the only one whom feels this way), and pressure wash the place. Update the bathrooms, which are in such dire need. NOT just for eye appeal, but for sanitary obligations. All this can be done while not loosing the appeal of Historical Site. As for our family..we are going elsewhere until you do something!Hepititis A is NOT something we as of group want to contract ar your theater. We live you, but c'mon..let's fix-it up!!! read more

This was such a cool little theater. At a time when you almost have to refinance your home just to go to a movie it was refreshing to pay $6 for a first run movie. Movie night out with my girl for less than $25? AWESOMENESS! I even loved that all the patrons seemed to know each other and were friendly and engaging with us before the show. That never happens anymore. I wouldn't go see some CGI intense flick there because the screens are on the small side, but anything else would be fine. The negative: Small theater that like most of Tehachapi, closes shop early (I think the latest movie starts before 8pm). The screens are fine for comedies, but not really good for the action and special effects ones, as the screens are small and not as clear as the more expensive theaters (we go to the Lancaster theaters when we want an awesome visual experience for the special effect flicks) The positive: $6 movie tickets, with $3.50 tickets on Tuesdays. Awesome online coupon deals (my husband and I are fans of the buy a jumbo popcorn get a free jumbo soda, and sometimes go and see a movie here just for the popcorn). Overall, this theater gives you the movies you want to see, and refreshments you want for less than $20 a couple. read more

I love our local theater, the staff is great and friendly, the popcorn is great, good first-run movies, but I'm not sure it has been cleaned since the purple seats were installed years ago. And seriously, can no one figure out how to install a TP dispenser that won't fall off the wall in the handicapped restroom??? This theater used to be so nice and so clean! It's so sad how downhill it's gone. The only thing keeping it alive is the pure fact that there are no other movie theaters in the is town. The owner is a total tool and could care less about how his employees act or how his establishment looks. There's always a homeless guy siting on the bench in the lobby every time I've been there. And when he talks out in the lobby regardless of what theater you're in you can hear the man over the movie!!!! Shut up!! Let us PAYING CUSTOMERS enjoy our movie!! The lobby is always dirty popcorn everywhere, the counters are always sticky, one good thing though the popcorn is pretty consistently good. Ok I know Tehachapi is a small town but it was unreal to us that we could get 2 movie tickets and snacks + drinks for all under $20. The only reason I ticked off a star was because the actual theater room was so dark and there were no lights on the walkway so it was really hard for us to find seats; a bit of a hazard on my opinion!
