She was humiliated, treated horribly, made to cry, and the interview process was arbitrarily changed; when she arrived she was told "no" despite fulfilling all requirements and even showing the phone call logs you requested. This is not only morally wrong -- it may violate labor and civil rights protections in Florida. Under the Florida Commission on Human Relations (FCHR) & the state statutes protecting individuals from unfair and discriminatory employment practices, all applicants and workers deserve to be treated fairly and with dignity regardless of age, background, or any other factor. As a result of your handling, my daughter suffered emotional distress all day. There is no excuse for treating any human being especially a young adult looking for work in this demeaning, biased manner. I am evaluating filing a formal complaint with the competent authorities. I demand a public apology from your company, and that you review and revise your hiring practices so that no other applicant ever again endures such mistreatment. If you care about your reputation, basic dignity, and fair treatment, you should respond to this promptly. Sincerely, -- Concerned Parent

I wanted to update my review to say that I came back to this gym. I'm happy to be able to change my…read moreopinion after all this time, this place has changed for the better! While I can't comment about the Kids area (my daughter is old enough and I don't need this really from any gym anymore), I've attended several of their classes and they are great. They are challenging and the gym itself has kind of a young and hip vibe (won't make me feel like I'm attending an older person's gym), the staff working here are friendly and attentive, everything is very clean. When I signed up, I went for the membership option that gives you a MyZone Belt with the membership. It's pretty cool because when you're working out, you wear this belt and it keeps track of your heart rate and how many calories you burn while doing your workout. I use this as motivation for working out. Ample parking, gym is never fully packed, etc. This place is a lot more than a fighting gym and can be used as just a normal gym. But your workouts can take an interesting twist with the MMA fighting. I've come to really like this place, I'm so happy that they have improved over time!

I can only review Professor Daniel Perez's seven and under BJJ class. I can say that his older…read morestudents both, juniors and adults are very enthusiastic about coming to class. His seven and under class is approximately 80% boys, 20% girls. He has a high instructor to student class by leveraging his higher ranking adult students, combined with a small class size. At times he has one instructor to student. His seven and under class size ranges from six to two students. His class at this age is based on game based drills that teach basic fundamentals, i.e. the mount and staying on top by "surfing". All of the games are directly related to BJJ techniques and follow the Gracie childrens' sylabus. For the most pat the kids do the techniques on the adult instructors. This can insure that the teaching point is correctly imparted and that the failure point is reached to ensure constant improvement. This approach does a good job of improving balance, propioreception, agility, strength, skill foundation, and keeping martial arts fun for kids. This teaching method may not be the best for parents who expect techniques to be taught. Although the foundation is constantly improved, it will be the same drills over and over, which may become repetitive if you start a four year old and they stay until seven. This training methodology also will not work if the parent is looking for the child to compete in the near term, especially since there is no kid on kid rolling. In the long term though, after a year or so of technique based training in the seven and older class I would expect that this methodology will produce better competitors since it builds a strong base. It is also easier to keep the kids motivated to go to practice and my kids always cheer when I say it is time to go to Professor Daniel's class. Professor Daniel Perez partners with judo Sensei Angel Perez (no relation) to operate the Dojo and they offer a combined package where there is junior judo on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and junior BJJ on Tuesday / Thursday. The seven and under BJJ classes are short; around 30 minutes and they usually start fifteen minutes late from the published time. This short formal class period is recommended by some for young kids. He allows the kids to play on the mat, which all of the kids love, but he does keep a watchful eye for any unsafe play. He also allows for around 15 minutes of play after class. This is great to burn off that extra energy before bed and keeps the kids motivated to come to class. The classes are no-gi, but Professor Daniel says to bring a gi just in case they need it, but this has not happened in nine months. I would highly recommend this school to anyone looking for a physical activity for children. PROS IBJJF affilitated club under the Demian Maia school. There is an associated and optional judo class led by Sensei Angel Perez ( no relation ) that complements the BJJ practice nicely by covering gi techniques and throws. It gives the kids a chance to roll with other children and apply the skills they are taught in BJJ. The children's' price includes both BJJ and judo...so you could have the kids in five days a week. The dojo floor consists of Swain mats. There are mirrors on one wall and pads on the other wall. The mirrors assist in refining skills and the padded walls are adequate for safety. (see con for other side of coin) Professor Perez is the first American to receive a bjj black belt from Demian Maia. Good depth of senior adult students to assist in classes and fill in when Professor Daniel is not available. He does do a good job of teaching falling techniques. My grandson already successfully applied this in the real world when he fell out of the back of my parked car in a dead sleep and did a front break fall before he hit the ground, saving himself from a serious face plant. Does a good job with special needs children. CONS The bathroom is at the back of the dojo...so spectators need to remove footwear to use facilities if required...although there are plenty of other places to use bathroom in strip mall. The mirrored wall on one end of Dojo is distracting, kids seem to be fascinated with looking at themselves instead of focusing on instruction. Bad instructor to parent communication when there is an emergency and he cannot attend class. Real bummer to get kids all excited to go to class with Professor Daniel, get dressed out, fight traffic to find that class is cancelled. This communication problem can reach to assistant instructors when they do not know he is a no show or they do not have key to dojo. (This has happened three times in nine months - not frequent but very irritating.) If you have to drive a long distance to class and get kids dressed, it is a lot of effort for a thirty minute kids class. No belt promotions or competitions for under seven, this may or may not be a con depending on parent and child's goals.

He is patient and communicates extremely well which makes understanding complex movements and techniques a breeze. The students at the academy give it that family feel and are quick to welcome newcomers and help guide them through their BJJ journey. If you just want to get a different workout, learn self defense or compete at the highest of levels, this is a place you should definitely check out.
