After my esthetician retired, she mentioned that I could contact Teko for skincare (along with another referral). So, as Teko's website noted, I called to inquire about openings for new clients and available services/offerings. Teko told me that her first-time consultation was a flat $200. When I asked what that typically included, she started to become, what felt like, frustrated. Finally, she indicated that it would consist of whatever she wanted it to include/whatever my skin needed at the time. I tried to understand what this meant (i.e., a possibility of a facial, LED treatment, etc.); when I asked more clarifying questions about her menu of services, she said she didn't want to tell me. This didn't feel very clear, so I asked another question to gain some clarity. (For example, does she even offer facials and carry the Epionce line?) Teko replied that she had never had anyone talk to her like this before and that it made her uncomfortable. And, by talking to her like "this," I assume she means "asking questions"? The more she refused to answer my questions, the more confused I became, and the cycle continued. All up, she said she is in high demand, only takes referrals, that her reputation precedes her, and that I should just trust that she will take great care of my skin. I explained that I was trying to get to know her and her offerings and didn't intend to offend or upset her. To this, she replied that I was not a good fit for a client because I didn't trust her, which made her uncomfortable. That she is too busy to have time for these types of phone conversations. Then, why do you ask new clients to call you? While it's terrific that Teko wants to do everything she can to protect the skin, it feels like she forgets there is a person behind it. And, that trust is also earned. My advice? Find someone else who will treat you with respect and understanding (and make you feel comfortable) in the same way she expects it returned. read more

Love this place. I am new to Portland and was in search of a good aethetician. Teko was recommended so thought - why not - it's just down the block. The place is clean, friendly and well maintained. The products are first class and the price is reasonable. Teko herself is this wonderful friendly Japanese woman who demonstrates her talents excellently. Teko is amazing! She has decades of experience and endless knowledge, expanding way beyond skincare. She demonstrated so much care and concern not only for my skin but also my overall health and wellbeing, which I truly appreciated (I got so comfortable chatting with her that I brought up some of my mom's health concerns, and Teko had so many questions and ideas. She really cared!) Teko acknowledged every single skin issue I came to her for with the right balance of professionalism and congeniality. She has clearly studied the science behind healthy skin for a long time and would first explain things using complex technical descriptions, and then translate it in layman's terms. The facial service was so, so relaxing (she even included a quick foot massage!) and I immediately noticed a difference in the texture and brightness of my skin afterwards. She sent me home with some samples and did not give me any sort of sales push for her products. She just wanted me to use the samples in place of my normal skincare routine for the next several days to see if they worked for me. She even told me to NOT buy anything that day and instead wait until the samples run out. So far, I've already seen less clogging in my face so these products are really promising! All in all, I was incredibly satisfied with my experience and I am SO glad I found Teko! For some reason Yelp only shows like 4 client reviews for Teko while all the rest are hidden. You have to scroll down and click to find the "not recommended" reviews which seem to have been hidden by some arbitrary algorithm. I've been seeing Teko for years. To get my eyebrows shaped/waxed as well as the many skincare services she offers. My favorite is the deep pore facial with the extractions! My skin feels so clean and smooth immediately afterwards. All of her treatments are non-invasive, but the results are med spa quality. Teko is knowledgeable, gracious and kind. She is in the treatment room with you the entire time, and there is never a doubt whatever she is doing will benefit your skin and/or your mood! Other great services: fruit peel, LED, and microcurrent treatments. You can also purchase Epionce, Skinceuticals and Jan Marini skincare products. I also really like their make up from Jane Iredale. Which has great coverage but also healthy for my skin. I highly recommend Epionce skincare products also which I have been using for 3-4 years now. My skin is always glowing. I have been to some of the best facial salons in the country. Mario Badescu in NYC and Ole Henriksen in Los Angeles. When I moved to Portland, I needed to find someone of that caliber. Teko Skin Care surpasses either of those two well-respected and competent establishments. I have had the best facials ever in her compact, immaculately clean and efficient space in the Pearl District. She has transformed my skin and I frequently get compliments on it. Teko has a wonderful sense of humor and creates a relaxing and calming atmosphere as she works. One of the most amazing things is that I can walk out of there - and go out that night without looking like I have taken a few punches! I could never have done that with other facials before. I've been going to Teko for almost thirty years. She is professional, knowledgeable and extremely kind and gentle. She is highly regarded by my dermatologist and I trust her guidance on all of my skin care. She does brows that are perfect...with little discomfort and never irritation or a bad reaction. Her facials are so wonderful...she doesn't leave the room, but works on hands and feet and shoulder massage while products are working. I'm absolutely so upset with my visit to this establishment! I stopped by today to purchase a gift certificate for my mom who uses a special face wash that's only sold here for her rosacea. I checked the website for the address and business hours and made my way to downtown Portland which is out of my way home after work. I paid for parking and made my way to the shop. When I walked in a women, by who I assume is the owner, and told me she's with a client and that there's no receptionist today and to come back tomorrow! Apparently I missed the preprinted little sign on the unlocked door that started this. I was then guided out the door as this women kept saying "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, come back tomorrow". I was so upset!! I came out of my way, through traffic, paid for parking and was then turned away! Over a transaction that would have taken 2 minutes! I understand this business is by appointments only for services but I didn't think I needed to call ahead for a gift certificate, and they sell skin care products, just like a store. If you have certain days in the week you don't have help/reception put that on your website! Say absolutely no walk in traffic of any kind on those days! So disappointed and frustrated with the whole experience! I will NOT be spending my money here and will advise my mom and her friends to do the same and find alternative options! read more

I had a horrible experience with Teko. The first time she waxed my eyebrows, I left with uneven brows. When I went back and politely pointed out the unevenness, she was extremely rude, said that she could not put hair back on, refused to wax my brows, and kicked me out!! read more
