Lousy experience. I've been having my haircut here for about a year. I never get the same barber. Today, I specifically asked for one barber who has cut my hair in the past and did a great job, but when she finished with her customer, she walked away and never reappeared. The owner said nothing. I usually take my son myself here. Kim is great today she was not there. I had my son's haircut by someone new. I told them to just get rid of the rat tail and get the hair out of his face. They end up cutting the entire thing way too short. I then got my haircut by somebody else. I will be sure to get her name and update this post. I asked for a two around the ears blended up and a very little bit off the top. I don't know what you wanna call this. It's almost skin faded up on the sides the complete opposite of what I asked for. One of the worst fades blends whatever you wanna call it I've ever had. They have me pay for my cut, and after expressing my frustration that this was not what I asked for, she had the audacity to ask how much I wanted to add extra. TLDR: Perfectly fine trim as long as you don't expect anything fancy or too specific. It probably deserves 3.5 stars. I first called to ask if they had availability to cut my hair. Unfortunately, the person who answered didn't seem to understand and we got disconnected Not being discouraged, I just drove up @ 5pm on a Wednesday and they were able to take me straight away. The shop was clean, bright, with good parking. There was only a father and his two children and one other customer there, with two Asian women barbers. My stylist was polite and asked me what I wanted, I told her a fade with a 2" trim at the bottom along the sides and back and to take some off the top. She proceeded to give me almost none of that. Other than a touching up with the razor, my haircut was just a balanced scissor trim with very little taken off the top. Maybe that merits a lower score but, in her defense, the haircut I got was perfectly fine and gave me some room before I need another cut. I would not recommend this place for anything stylish or specific. That also means the very reasonable $24 price is counter-balanced by the fact that I would have to come back much sooner than if I got the haircut I actually asked for. The store's price board lists options for a haircut, flat top, buzz, and shave at different prices. It feels like a bit of haircut nostalgia for simpler times. Still, for guys, it is hard to find a place that can just trim your hair and not charge you an arm and a leg. This place can fit that basic need. read more

I was so happy to have stumbled upon Telegraph Barbershop - reading some of the reviews, I knew that I had to make an appointment with Ms. Emily for the hubs. We were so warmly welcomed and greeted, and I already loved the vibe - it was comfortable and relaxing, and the place is kept clean and maintained well. Ms. Emily was so personable and kind, and she had a great sense of humor! She also listened to the type of cut/style the hubs was going for, and she worked her magic! The end result was a fresh cut with an amazing fade! Super satisfied! You can tell that the staff here are super talented & skilled, and they really are perfectionists and ensure that you are satisfied with your cut before you leave. I've been looking for a few years now and have tried out most of the barber shops in the Springfield/Kingstowne area. I tried out Telegraph Barbershop and had a great experience and was given a very good haircut. I did not catch the barber's name, but she really paid attention to detail and asked questions as she went to make sure I was comfortable with the cut. I've got pretty difficult hair to work with so this was great for me. They also had a little section for kids to play with different toys and kid games which was great for my daughter. My 4 year old historically has not done well with haircuts (he was a pandemic baby). We let him grow his hair long because he was afraid of barbershops, but this summer he stated that he wanted/needed short hair for swimming. We sent a message to this place and got a response within 12 hours! We were able to book an appointment with Emily for the next day. I am happy to report that were no tears. Emily was professional, efficient, and extremely precise. She was able to get my son to relax with occasional gentle reminders. If you are in the Armed Forces look elsewhere. Unfortunately it's not the same since Emily and her mother sold and left to Korea. As we all know most of the country military haircuts average $13.00 to $15.00 this price range used to hold true to this location when Emily was still there. Not anymore, it's $21.00. I get it we are in Northern, VA however many soldiers Do Not Make Northern Virginia Salaries. While I was there I even witnessed a CPT in uniform do an about face after asking the price for a haircut and I don't blame him. Second the new crew is not experienced in proper military haircuts. I asked for a medium skin. Aka medium fade with a taper that ends in a razor shave. What I ended up with is a high fade for days. No offense to the new owner Kelly, the service, price and quality of haircut for our service members whom used to go here have gone south. Think of it this way, by making your prices lower wouldn't you think you would have more volume and guys waiting for a cut? Especially on Sunday prior to Monday report? Perhaps they mostly cater to locals these days, however I still remember thr days of arriving there and it resembling a Ranger Joe's Barber from Ft. Moore or Knights Barber from Cavasos.. you catch my drift right? Final verdict: No go at this station! read more

Wow Emily was fantastic! I went to Telegraph barber shop for the first time after reading their high reviews and saw Emily. My previous barber was great but unfortunately he retired, but I'm so thankful that I found a new great barber in Emily. My hair is super coarse and straight so I always get a low skin fade. The employees were so nice and welcoming, the atmosphere was great. There were a few customers and Emily was so great with children as well. She even took such great care of the more rowdy kids, I know the parents loved that. I was a little concerned at first considering high reviews can be misleading, but my worries were soon eased. I could tell Emily was an expert within the first few minutes. She was so detailed making sure every spot of my hair was perfectly cut. There was absolutely perfect symmetry and she even handled my cowlick perfectly. I have no idea how someone could cut hair with such precision and grace, but I'm glad I finally I got around to meeting Emily. After she finished I was just speechless at how good the haircut was! She even used a straight razor to shave off my neck hairs and used a hot towel to finish everything off. I would give her 6 stars if I could and even that might understate how satisfied I was. I finally understand why the shop and Emily in particular has such high reviews. Even the price was a bargain! I will definitely be back even though its a bit of a drive to get to Alexandria. A bit of a disappointing experience. Haircut was pretty good, but unfortunately will likely not be coming back. I've had a buzzcut for about five years. I usually just get a basic medium skin fade. My hair grows pretty quickly so I get a haircut about twice a month. I'm not loyal to any specific barber shop as I figure most places can do what I ask for and it's mostly a matter of convenience. I tried this shop out today and I got exactly what I asked for. The vibe was generally friendly and clean. Unfortunately when I went to pay they were going to charge me for a "woman's cut" which is $5 more than a "men's cut". This didn't sit right with me as, again, I get a very basic barber cut that takes about 15 min. I asked what the difference is between mine and the other customers' very identical haircut that cost less was. The manager said she'd charge for a men's cut today as long as I come back. I likely won't be. That's unfortunate because it's fairly close to my house. Sure $5 is not a huuge amount but it does not sit right with me they were comfortable up charging me for no reason. I am happy to pay people for their skills, especially at a small business. It would make more sense if they differentiated it between a barber cut / whatever other language they choose. This stood out because at basically every other barber shop I've been to the default was always to charge me for a standard haircut. read more

Having lived in Northern Virginia for about a year, it's been a challenge finding a place in Alexandria that delivers a consistent and well-valued haircut done by somebody who understands how to cut coarse Asian hair (I'm convinced if I let it grow out without the use of any product, I would have a prickly fro that could have a dual function as a sharp weapon if anyone got too close). I've been given recs from Fredericksburg to Capitol Hill with price ranges from $12-35 and I can say the search is finally over after discovering this lovely couple who recently opened their shop in a cute little strip mall with Grounded Coffee Shop and Glam Mini Day Spa, which are excellent options if you or your companion need a place to wait or relax. For $15, I received an efficient yet detailed cut, followed by a few complimentary mini-indulgences (hot lather straight razor neck shave and hot towel massage) to punctuate a professional experience from start to finish. The space is spotless with a Korean drinking water dispenser, an ample array of periodicals, and even a play section for small kids, a thoughtful touch factoring in their local neighborhood clientele. Stamp cards are available for repeat customers and a military folks receive a two dollar discount. Unless the 90s trend of Asian "success perms" makes a comeback, I plan on getting my ears lowered here for years to come. read more

I am so happy to have a local business like this open up and provide great service, and I look forward to using them again. I have a pretty basic hairstyle and work with the military, so I've become used to the 2 minute clipper cut at the Pentagon, because it's cheap and easy. I forgot what a quality haircut actually looks and feels like and that they take a little more than a few minutes. This haircut isn't over till the back of your neck has been shaved with hot suds and a straight razor and your scalp massaged with a hot washcloth! All for about the same cost as a questionable, impersonal cut from one of the major chains. This is the kind of barber shop that makes me want to bring a buddy or two and kick back, relax, watch some sports on the TV, and shoot the breeze while the Telegraph Barber takes good care of us. They also take good care of the kids. There's a little play area in the corner if you're getting the cut and your kid isn't going to wander out the door. They're also great for junior's first haircut. We took our son there for his, and while he was pretty unenthused and nervous about the whole affair, he held it together thanks to the gentle hand of the barber and the proprietor doing his best to cheer him up with toys and blinky things. They even collected some of the clippings in an envelope for us to keep for posterity. read more
