I drove out of my way to come here and can say I was pleased! They have a large variety of teas to choose from and smell. I picked up peach black tea and vanilla/orange herbal blend. Instructions are super easy and posted on each bag. I'd be interested to know if they're into being eco friendly by letting customers bring in their own jars. They also sell a bunch of teaware and other local goods like honey/coffee. I will probably reorder from them online next time. read more

If you like uncomfortable experiences and odd pressure selling, this is the place for you. They make a great cup of tea and tea adjacent drinks like Chai. Problem is, they really don't want to sell you a cup of tea or Chai, they want to sell you bulk tea, and the owner will push it to an uncomfortable degree. On the second visit for an iced tea during a summer Trollway stroll, I thought I could head her (owner) off at the pass by stating up front we just wanted three drinks to go, no bulk tea. She made the drinks, blew right through my precondition and asked how much of the tea I'd like to bring home. Frustrated, I repeated that I didn't want bulk tea and reminded her I told her up front I didn't want bulk tea. She then tried to hard sell me on the bulk tea. I started wondering if I was on a hidden camera show. It was that awkward. There's pressure selling, then there's showing absolutely no regard for what the customer is saying. I find myself drinking tea more and more probably just so I have an excuse to come into this shop. I also find that I come in with the express purpose of buying one particular tea and leave with four or with a totally different one than I intended! Awesome selection, no matter your preference. I love the smelling sample tins, the organization, all of the various tea supplies you never knew you needed, and everything else about this little shop. I've never made it to one of the game nights or events they offer to be able to speak on that. I keep meaning to try this place for lunch and will definitely update this review when I do. If you have questions, the owner will take the time to answer them, and there's a nice little cheat sheet for steeping basics if you are a newbie to tea. I do wish she took cash, but understand it's probably a hassle she prefers not to deal with. I have been going getting tea from Telsaan for years now. I love their teas and love that Erin, the owner mixes her own blends and flavors that are unique to Telsaan. I also love that she has a sample tin for every flavor of tea so you can sniff them before buying. Her prices are fair and quality is consistent. I wish they served cups of tea but I can understand focusing on just selling bulk tea. I've never been upsold or felt pressured to buy anything that I didn't want or ask about. My favorites are turmeric & ginger, blueberry herbal tea, vanilla orange herbal tea and their matcha. read more

My husband and I stopped in at Telsaan for lunch and tea while in the area for a long weekend trip. I make a point of stopping in tea shops whenever I'm visiting a new town that has one. But I was also very intrigued by the tartine and couscous options on the menu. We ordered a couple of the specialty drinks - I got the toasted marshmallow tea and my husband go the chai coffee. We ordered two of the tartines and split a couscous entree. All of the above was delightful, fresh and well-portioned. Though I will add that the toasted marshmallow tea drink really does have a toasted, campfire flavor to it. So prepare to be transported in that respect. The owner helped us and kept a tab open for us, as I knew we would be leaving with at least some loose leaf tea. She also instructed us as how things in the shop work: there are large tins of loose leaf tea lining the walls of the space and small samples to smell each of teas. We settled on an almond oolong and a mint green tea to add to our home collection. We've brewed the almond oolong since and it is delightful. Not to mention, the prices were very reasonable - with a discount the more you buy! Oh and a helpful tip - they only accept debit or credit, no cash or check! The space is also very cozy and sweet. The owner brought us our drinks first, while we waited for lunch. There was a fairly sizable selection of board games, so we played Parcheesi while sipped our tea/coffee and awaited lunch. She apparently hosts game nights fairly frequently, which sounded really fun. We had a great time getting to know the owner a bit more on the way out. And I even bought a darling vintage tea cup and the perfect mid-size tea infuser. Money all well spent! I highly recommend stopping in for at least a flavorful cup of tea, if not something to nibble. read more

I haven't been to the shop, I bought Turmeric & ginger tea from owner @ a Christmas bazaar. I just sat down & enjoyed my 1st cup, she said this was a best seller. I bought 2 for friends for Xmas & one 4 myself & SO GLAD I DID! I bought because I thought the turmeric would b good medicinal wise, I was SO Suprised how great this tastes! It also has rose petals. I was so excited when I'd heard Telsaan had opened in Mount Horeb. I'm a huge fan of tea, and while I can get a tasty chai latte almost anywhere, this kind of selection is something I've been longing for. Erin is sweet as can be, and she really knows her stuff. She was more than happy to walk around the shop with a friend and I to discuss the different types of tea. When asked if they had any "smokey" teas, she became excited because a few other people had also asked for it. She promised that she would find some and carry it - that's great service! I love that you can wander the space and see/smell all the teas offered. It's great that you can get a cup or buy the loose leaf to take home. There's a nice open comfort to this place. I haven't eaten a meal here yet, but I intend to. If I remember correctly, the entire menu is vegan. The sweet bread that I did get was very yummy. I also think it's super cute that she makes and ties off the tea-bags for to-go orders herself, and it was quite obvious that she wants you to have the best experience possible. I see samples, product updates and offers listed on their FB page, and there's a first game night coming up. I hear other events may be popping up in the future. One important thing to keep in mind is that they only accept credit/debit cards. I live near Mount Horeb and look forward to making this a regular spot. Telsaan is a great little tea shop, a rarity in our area. Erin will help you select the tea you'd like to purchase in bulk or use in a drink; they also server light food/healthy snacks. She has maybe 50 different tins of tea in the shop, with tables in an open atmosphere. People come to sit and chat, work, read, or play games she has on the shelf. My only suggestion would be to add a handful of posted "highlighted" teas to drink by the cup. If you come into the store with a person that's new to tea or new to loose tea, it can be a little intimidating to them. If there was maybe a card of maybe 6 or 8 teas that are sure to please nearly everyone, I think that would help. Sometimes I hear people say they don't like tea, and my first thought is that they just haven't ever tried good tea! And Telsaan has plenty of it. read more

I love the selection of teas and the laid back atmosphere. When we arrived, we were given a brief tour of all the tea canisters. He actually gave the tour to most people who said that it was their first time there. The hot teas were reasonably priced and there was self-serve hot water available for additional steepings. Great selection of green, black, oolong, and herbal teas. I could have spent the entire day there testing and smelling the teas. Teas are purchased by grams and there are prepackaged bags available so you know how much is in 25/50 grams. The price range was very reasonable, starting at $3.25/25 grams. This place is really nice, lots of tea variety. If you come in and describe the type tea you want, the owner will know what to get. The setup is a bit different, but nice and enjoyable. The old, renovated building the shop is in, looks wonderful and has room for several customers, with large and small tables to sit and chat. They do serve food, and I highly recommend the Johnwich, it was the bomb! The food is veggie based, but they use good Wisconsin cheese, and the spices they added to the meals made them very savory! One of THE best experiences tea wise as well as customer service wise that I've ever come across. The atmosphere is very calming and really gets you to interact with the tea that you'll be drinking. You can smell all the teas and pick out the one to brew. And the owner is wonderfully kind and patient; she was willing to answer any and all of our questions. The tea itself is wonderful! It tastes amazing!!! I was in quite a hurry and Erin (I think?) was so understanding of the situation. I am a lifelong soda drinker but recently only started drinking tea, so I knew I had to train my taste buds to accept and appreciate this new experience. The best way to do this is to go to tea houses in the area and rely on the expertise of staff to guide me. Telsaan is a bit out of the way for a Madison resident but well worth the trip. I described what I thought I liked and what I definitely did not like and tested a couple of teas. I learned not to steep too long. Erin is very knowledgeable and super friendly. What a great selection of teas! Erin, the owner, who I met just last week, really knows her teas and helped me choose ones that suited my taste. Prices are very good and service is excellent. Welcome addition to Mt Horeb's Main Street shops neighborhood A cute little tea place tucked into the old Sole Sapori building. You can drink tea prepared by the knowledgeable owner along with very reasonably priced fresh snacks. Big tables to gather around with friends to catch up or meet new folks. Best of all, there are SOOOO many kinds of tea to choose from; it's a REAL tea place - (although the coffee is yummy, too.) I'm usually a tea drinker and am often disappointed by tea selections in coffee shops---but not here! Even better, I can try my loose-leaf tea BEFORE buying it to take home - I'm in heaven!
