My husband had the roast beef (delish!) 14 yo had the grilled cheese and loved the crunch of the sourdough, 12 yo had the kids grilled cheese for $5! She gobbled it all up and didn't need dessert because she was full! 11 yo had the grilled kids PB&J. Also enough for her and she too had to forego dessert from being stuffed. On my way through town heading towards Madison for golf, I stopped by this spot for a drive-by sandwich order to eat along the way. The restaurant looks like a cool place to hang and the staff was supper-kind and helpful. I ordered a custom grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes and bacon along with a bag of Great Lakes potato chips. The sandwich was divine...gooey, melty cheese along with crispy strips of bacon and perfectly grilled bread. The parmesan ranch chips were also quite tasty and made for a filling meal before teeing it up down the road. Would love to return, if I make it back to the area. read more

Some of the best fresh quality food is found in this quaint little cafe. I've became addicted to the beast sandwich and the trek out here once every week or two from Madison just to fulfill the craving I get for it is 1000% worth it. Went here on a Saturday to grab lunch after garage saling in the morning. The place was pretty busy, but they had seating outside and inside so there was enough room. The menu has a bunch of sandwich options as well as some salads, desserts, and breakfast burritos. We ended up getting the guro sandwich and a build your own, which was definitely the way to go for me. They both came with chips, or you could upgrade to a salad. The gyro sandwich is actually listed as a flatbread. It was pretty solid, if not a little messy. We were happy that we got the side salad with it to balance it out a little and provide some more freshness. It was a little heavy without it. I got a build your own sandwich with turkey, havarti cheese, greens, tomatoes, jalapenos, raw onions, and spicy pickles. It was a pretty solid sandwich and I highly encourage adding the spicy pickles to the sandwiches. They provide a very unique flavor, which is not overly spicy. Overall pretty good food with elevated sandwich shop prices. read more

I'm sorry to say that the food was gross. I had a sandwich that had cheap lunchmeat, awful cheese on bread that was awful - barely toasted in a panini. I also ordered the cesar salad and it couldn't have been further from a cesar as I've ever had. The greens were from a big container I find at the market for $4.99 and the dressing was unpalatable and clearly from a bottle. I paid nearly $20 for that food. Super disappointed. read more

A friend and I visited SUNN CAFE for the first time today at lunch and was blown away by the quality of the food. I had a Cuban Sandwich, and everything about it was PERFECT, including the bread. I complimented the person who brought the sandwich out, and she introduced herself as the owner, and explained that the bread was a special Cuban flatbread brought in from Chicago...which explains why instead of all the sorry excuses I have had at other restaurants in Madison with far too thick, inappropriate sourdough or french baguettes that didn't at all feel "right", this sandwich soared. Excellent addition to the charming downtown Mount Horeb area and so pleased to have a lunch option that is really right up my alley when it comes to menu options and food sourcing. This is a counter-service ordering system where they bring your food out to you and clean up after you, so don't forget to tip the friendly staff! There are daily specials and a standing menu, and having been here a couple of times I have tried a few things and have yet to be disappointed. The decor is simple and friendly, and it always feels bright and airy in there with the big windows facing out to the street. This time around our party ordered jambalaya, which had a "nice heat" and a healthy portion of mixed greens as a side, and tomato soup which was creamy and rich. I had the beef burrito which had perfect heat for my taste (which is probably mild to medium) and was grilled so the tortilla had a nice crunch to it. That came with chips and salsa as a side. Portions are perfect. They have a great craft beer selection and a wine selection as well. Sunn Cafe is simple and cute. We live nearby and come somewhat regularly, so we have become familiar to some of the staff and the owners. The menu is refreshing and not boring. The food quality is excellent overall, and it all travels pretty well too. The tomato soup is a must, and the daily specials are fun and inventive. The menu is simple, but in the way I wish more menus were. Solid vegetarian options as well. Service is always friendly and helpful, the place is kept clean and organized, and it's consistent. On our trip out to Cave of the Mounds in Wisconsin, we worried a little about finding a vegan gluten-free lunch place... fear not, travelers with sensitivities - Sunn Cafe is here in Mount Horeb! Right on the Trollway, this bright and eclectic cafe offers not only a deli case of delectable choices, but also had gluten-free bread and the best vegan cheese. The chef actually came out to talk to us about our vegan cheese choices and Frank helped us select what is now my favorite winter salad. Butternut squash, navy beans, Brussels sprouts, pepitas & cranberries on mixed greens with a maple horseradish dressing. If a salad can be warming, this one is! My son got a dairy-free grilled cheese and my husband had an excellent sandwich with a peanut sauce broccoli salad (we got an extra one of those and the egg salad for the road). If you are looking for comfort food, Stop In! I love the fresh tasting ingredients. The drink selection is fun for adults & children. Craft beer from WI, Cadence cold brew coffee, soda, wine, & juice. They have great soups too. Everything is ready in minutes. You can take it with you or do what I do...grab a window seat & a wine while I briefly wait for my tasty entree. My favorite is The Bomb! or the Vegas with greens on the side. The greens taste great. The chips are wonderful but the greens make me proud of my choice. Especially since I can round out lunch with Babcock ice cream from UW-Madison.
