Getting kids excited about any sport isn't easy, but Coach Jesse and his team have found the right formula. They make tennis genuinely fun while still maintaining a high standard, striking the perfect balance between learning, encouragement, and discipline. Whether your child is picking up a racquet for the first time or already competing, everyone is challenged at the right level. Coach Jesse has built an outstanding team with Luiba, Kyle, Jon, and the rest of the coaching staff. Everyone brought incredible energy, patience, and positivity every single day. My kids also had fantastic private lessons with Coach Victor. He was incredibly patient, technical, and has a great way of breaking down the game so kids build confidence while learning proper fundamentals. I even jumped into a private lesson myself, and Coach Victor was awesome. He shared some simple but incredibly effective tips that immediately helped my game. Thank you, Coach Victor! I took a lot of time off from tennis, and after knee surgery I am an adult recreational 4.0 player. Jesse helped me get back into tennis. After asking what my goals were and we were aligned, he helped me understand a better way to hit a tennis ball. I would get so tired from hitting a ball previously and would need to take a break every 10 minutes. After a few lessons with Jesse, I feel like I am conserving so much energy and hitting the ball with free power. I never thought I would be an athlete again, but I am now one of the strongest players in my USTA flight. This was our first time enrolling in Tenacious Tennis, and it exceeded our expectations. We plan to return for future summer camp sessions (and maybe other lessons). We had two kids attend--one is 8 and the other is 5. Our younger child usually takes a while to warm up to new activities, so we weren't sure how it would go. To our surprise (and relief), he came home after the very first day saying he loved camp! (And corrected me every time I referred to it as Tennis camp - "It's Tenacious Tennis!") Both kids had a great time throughout the week and asked to go back, which isn't always our experience with other camps. They are also very different kids so it was a pleasant surprise that both liked it so much. My schedule didn't permit me to get there early enough to watch the kids in action but our kids reported that they liked their coaches. There aren't many camps where I can send both my kids so I'm really glad to have found one they like (and one in which they see each other throughout the day.) My 9 year old son has been playing with coach Jesse and coach Luba for about a year now. He improved a lot. So far he has been able to complete all the USTA requirements for the color balls competitions and moved on to level 7. Being a tennis player myself, I'm extremely picky choosing a coach for my son. Starting with the first email communication I sent in, to the lessons I took (and continue to take), the team at Tenacious Tennis Academy has been absolutely wonderful. I was a bit hesitant to start because I hadn't played in so many years and am feeling out of shape, but with each session I feel happier with my decision to have Tenacious (and especially coach Dave who is analytic, patient, encouraging, an absolute LEGEND) be the place to go to restart. Even the kids they coach play phenomenal tennis, and are making huge improvements. The other people in the team (Luba and Jesse) are also as fantastic as my coach, and they care about my life On and off the court, and thanks to coach Dave I'm fired up and signed up for various tournaments, which I hadn't done in decades. Fantastic coaches for kids! My son started at age 5 and has made steady progress over the last 4 years. We have done red ball and now orange ball clinic, briefly did private lessons (60 min was too long to hold a 7yo's attention unfortunately), and multiple weeks of summer camp. Coaches are kind, patient, and actually teach the kids how to play. Jesse is an amazing coach and whenever he is involved all the kids immediately improve. I took a couple adult private lessons which were great too. Main area of improvement is communication: customer service is on slow side and at times frustrating but Jesse's working on hiring staff to help out and it's improving. We signed up our 7-year-old son for the Tenacious Tennis Camp this summer for four weeks. He had a lot of fun at the camp and improved his tennis skills. Everyone at the camp was very friendly and professional. They are located at the tennis courts at SF State, and the environment there is excellent. We are delighted that our son spent a lot of time practicing and improving his tennis skills outside and making new friends during the summer. We plan to send him to the camp again next summer as well. Jesse is very quick to respond to any inquires and is very professional. Our 7yr old son completed 2 weeks of summer camp at Tenacious and loved it! The instructors do a great job of keeping the kids engaged with a mix of drills and games. There was a noticeable improvement in his ball control and strokes. We only wished that there were more kids in his age range to form their own group, but understand that can be hard to control for. Our son felt intimated by the older kids' group, so he opted to stay with the younger kids and likely wasn't as challenged. However, on a few afternoons, our son did get some 1:1 coaching with Jesse, which was wonderful! I was looking for some local, pandemic friendly outdoor activities for my kids. There are soccer camps and so on, but often those will meet indoors and/or in Golden Gate Park which is a good 25 minute drive from our house. Tenacious Tennis Academy is a really fun option, particularly as they will take kids from total beginner level and offer different opportunities from once a week casual play to more intensive summer sessions and so on. I thought the instructor, Jesse, was really great at getting kids to work on skills through play. Great way for kids to burn off some energy and learn a new skill. read more

Sadly, this business has really let my family down. I scheduled weekly tennis lessons for my twin boys. At the first session, the instructor double booked and my kids only had a 30 minute session. The second session went well and the instructor was good with the kids, though he told us he was moving out of town in a few weeks. The instructor no-showed for our next lesson. The owner, Jesse, told us he was short-staffed but promised to find us a new instructor or teach my kids himself. Now, several weeks have gone by and several texts to Jesse have gone unanswered. We sent our kids to Tenacious Tennis Academy for weekly clinics and every summer for eight years from ages 5-12. They are now in high school and still return to Tenacious regularly for lessons from coach Jesse and his amazing team. Because of their time with Tenacious, our kids are now amazing tennis players owing to the teaching philosophy at Tenacious, where they learned about tennis technique and the importance of sportsmanship, hard work, and respect, lessons that have benefitted them both on and off the court. I saw some of the reviews that gave one star, which sound like some mix-ups and possible growing pains - definitely not our experiences. We have tried many different coaches and tennis programs in the Bay Area before we found Tenacious, and if you are looking for an environment in which your kids will learn how to play AND love tennis then I highly recommend Tenacious. I decided to take the plunge and enroll my kids, CC was charged, reminder message came through before the camp with what to bring and drop off info. But this morning...the was NO ONE there. I enrolled my daughter via their website for winter camp in November. Payment was accepted. I emailed shortly after with a clarifying question, to which I got no reply. Shortly before the start of camp I called and left a VM. No response. The Friday before the start of camp I called and got Jesse on the phone. I asked about the logistics of drop off/pick up, to which he replied 'oh yeah. That camp was cancelled." I noted that my CC had been charged and I emailed him shortly after enrolling. He replied, "yeah, I thought that was weird'. I asked him if he had gotten my VM from a few days prior. He replied 'yeah, but I had family in town so ...". I could go on. You could also reference the similar review from about a year ago. I relied on this program for childcare during the holidays. Jesse has zero appreciation for the difficulties in scheduling. He spent quite some time explaining that his girlfriend was in the process of updating the website and he was busy over the holidays. Unbelievable. I signed up for this camp pre-COVID along with several others and this was the only camp that never got back to me with how whether they were going to cancel the camp or modify it based on the city's guidelines. I got clearly pre-written messages this week that camp was happening but when I drove to their location noone was there as SF State has not reopened. I signed up my 12 years old grandson for Tenacious Academy's week-long tennis camp (half day each day). On the first day, when I came to pick him up, he begged me to let him stay for the rest of the day. When we came home that day he fell asleep on the couch. He was tired, but really loved the experience. This camp provided a good tennis practice, different games (related and unrelated to tennis), various physical activities, healthy snacks (no junk food, but lots of fruits). The kids played different games, such as Around the World, TTF (Touch The Fence) and many others. There were various prizes given out at the end of the week. The camp had very friendly atmosphere and my grandson made friends there. His tennis game noticeably improved after this week; he became a more confident player. Most importantly, he loved it, had a lot of fun and made new friends. I would highly recommend this camp to anyone looking for a fun, friendly, activity-filled week for their children. read more

If you are looking for a GREAT tennis camp in San Francisco, THIS IS IT! My parents live in SF, and I flew my two teenage sons from Washington State to participate in one of the Tenacious Tennis Academy week-long, all day sessions. Tenacious Tennis Academy also offers three-hour, half-day sessions in the morning and afternoon for those folks limited on time. FIRST Quality. Many tennis camps start out as warm-up rally sessions that turn into playing points/sets...in other words, very little instruction/attention and more like occupying a large chunk of time to keep participants entertained for long periods. Tenacious Tennis Academy is NOT that type of camp. While some points/sets are played out, Tenacious Tennis Academy focuses on technique, strategy, footwork, and overall game improvement. With four different instructors, feedback is individualized. Even though there were up to 30 participants, my sons indicated that this level of attention and instruction was on par with the small group instruction they received in Washington which cost significantly more. SECOND Cost. When you compare other tennis camps, this is probably one of the most economical. For 30 hours of instruction for one week-long, all day session, the cost is only $375 which equates to $12.50/hr. This is much less than what I end up paying for group tennis skills & drills which comes out to more like $15 - $25 per hr. You don't have to worry about paying for extensive marketing and advertising like with other brand-name camps. THIRD Fun Factor. Yes, six hours of tennis per day for five straight days was an adjustment for my sons considering that the longest tennis skills & drills they previously participated was 1.5 hrs. I was initially concerned that they might feel burnt out. However, they were even more energized because they had fun during their session. Again, if six hours is too long, there are three-hour sessions available in the morning and afternoon. I highly recommend this tennis camp which is also open to adults. If my sons could spend more time in SF, I would definitely enroll them in more weeks. I definitely plan on sending my sons to Tenacious Tennis Academy next summer and will probably hop in on the action as well! read more

Tenacious Tennis Academy is a great place for your children to learn the game. My youngest started this spring and has enjoyed ed every minute. Jeff and his coaching staff have been a great group for her to learn and have fun. Both kids have attended camp and loved it so much they will be going back for another week or two this summer. There is something special about being on a college campus and interacting with student coaches from around the world. Jesse, the director, is easy to work with as well. We sent our 6 1/2 year old to this camp for the first time this year. My son liked this camp a ton, but we, his parents did not. There was some tennis in the morning, but then as far as we know, there was a visit to the cafe and the video arcade. The camp is not cheap, and when our son came home after the first day and asked to bring money for the cafe and for the video arcade, we were a bit stunned. There was no warning of access to the University beyond the tennis courts, and certainly no mention of access - perhaps without supervision. We were extremely disappointed in this camp, and would warn other families that the kids are not well supervised for a portion of the day and that you should plan to send your child with extra money to participate in the video arcade and cafe spending that was obviously a big part of the day.
