This review is for the cafe portion of the Butterfly Joint! We stopped by on a Sunday morning and were treated soooo warmly by Danny and his daughter. The small window brings all the neighbors for their morning beverage before the dog walk. Though we'd never been in before we were treated with such kindness and offered some recommendation. Seeing Danny interact with his regular customers was wholesome and what community is all about! We tried the saffron turmeric latte and beet goji latte which were so beautiful and nice warm flavors. We also tried two of the vegan donuts- the Meyer lemon was my fave! I liked how they had a sort of crunchy crisp exterior not found in traditional donuts, and were dense almost like mochi. read more

I checked yelp quickly for a "random" coffee shop since I had just finished working in the city and was about to drive back home to San Jose. So happy I decided to come here. The customer service is top tier. Warm, welcoming and knowledgeable about their product line. The owner was so sweet and friendly. Cool little spot to get a legit cup of coffee in the Outer Richmond. It's run out of a woodworking shop/studio, you order at the service window. NGL, best cappuccino I've had in a long time! I ordered the Columbiana or Columbiano espresso as a cappuccino. I met Erin who was an absolute sweetheart. Super friendly and calls regulars by their names. I'd come here all the time if I lived in the Outer Richmond. 1000% recommend this neighborhood joint especially if you're a coffee purist. It's simply really good coffee. One of my favorite aspects of living in SF is discovering new cafes and restaurants. Before a wonderful walk in Lands End my husband and I stumbled up The Butterfly Joint. People were flitting about in front so it piqued our curiosity. This little cafe window serves up house made donuts, treats from other local bakers, and coffee. okay, okay, okay. i know this place is far. like, steps from the beach far. but it is truly a hidden GEM of the outer richmond. the owners erin and danny, operate the wood workshop for kids AND run the coffee window for grownups. the coffee is A-1, because they use red bay, of course. i got the saffron + turmeric latte, a clever combo. delish! but another standout is the homemade hand pies!!! omg, we tried all 3 and they were so good. plus the mochi donuts. wow. it was a joy to see neighborhood regulars come by for coffee or just to say hello. such a peaceful community vibe. will definitely be back! read more

So much to say about this business. Wonderful, personable owners who set up a coffee shop out of their wood working shop during the pandemic. And now they've struck gold with these recent donuts of theirs. Quite possibly the best vegan and gluten-free donut I've had in the city. They have a pleasant crispiness on the outside, moist pound cake texture inside, and flavors that aren't too sugary so you really enjoy all of the components that make up the donut. Be sure to try a coffee or one of their many other drinks. I love that they source their coffee from a Oakland roaster. These folks are all about supporting other local businesses. I'm an (almost) daily customer and I love butterfly joint! They have the best coffee in the neighborhood by far. Danny and Erin are the owners and they're normally the ones working the window. They're both great and very much enjoy chatting with the neighbors. There's a great community connection around the cafe. I've met a ton of my neighbors while in line or drinking my coffee, something that's not as easy as it used to be. They have some very unique lattes and espresso options. I keep it simple with a cappuccino, not something that all coffee shops do well. They serve twisted donuts on Friday and I look forward to donut Friday all week. Great cafe and I love their mission statement and focus on community building. But even better is the woodworking summer camp! This is one of the few summer camps I found that accepts kids entering kindergarten, which meant both our kids could attend together. Danny has great energy and is wonderful with kids. On top of the amazing woodworking skills, he also reinforces manners, including teaching our five year old to "respect the bathroom" and clean up after himself. The camp also includes fun outdoor breaks in Golden Gate Park to use up the kids' energy. I definitely recommend this camp and plan to sign up again next year. My daughter attended Butterfly Joint a couple times several years ago. She loved working on her wooden piece and was proud of what she had created. I was impressed with Danny and made a mental note to bring my son here when he turned of age. Fast forward several years and my son finally had a chance to attend one of Danny's 3 week camp sessions...during CoVid, no less. Currently, camp is completely outdoors and even though woodworking is temporarily on pause my son had an excellent time. Danny has safety protocols in place and there's even a backup plan for when it rains. Can't wait to return. :) read more
