We have an elderly Navel orange tree that has hasn't performed well in decades, and a large, vigorous Hass avocado that needed to be managed. Both trees showed some signs of pests like mites and aphids, as well. I sent photos of them to TLC Tree Care and asked for advice. Gene said he was available and he and his crew came over the same day I called (!). He examined the trees, described what he'd like to do, and went to work at once (!!!). Next, he prescribed a little medicine and food for them and administered it via a most interesting deep watering technique. The job, including cleanup, was done in under 3 hours, and the price was most reasonable. Gene himself is a remarkable person, very thoughtful, with many years of teaching tree care under his belt. The bottom line? Both of our trees look good, and are so healthy now that, in gratitude, they have produced more fruit than we have seen in years! read more

Called to get a quote from this guy, he was nice in the beginning, told him I had a couple of (non indigenous) Italian spruce trees that needed to be removed sadly (the original owners of our house planted them way too close and now they are ruining our foundation/breaking multiple pipes and need to go for the fumigation tent for termites) and topping other trees. He didn't ask any further questions said he didn't do "that kind of work" and "I'm in the business to save trees" turning rude and impatient on me. So odd. I'm not upset that he didn't want to cut the trees down, I'm upset with the rudeness - I guess being respectful to women is not a strong suit. But I luckily I found another company that can top all 35 of my eucalyptus trees and cut the Italian spruces down before they become more of a problem. read more

If you are looking for a generic hack job, don't waste your money. If you want real arboreal insight and care, with an artistic flare, then get Gene. He'll talk to you and explain in incredible detail exactly what's going on with your trees, recommend different options, even work with your neighbors on getting approval and permission to cut and haul on their property. He's maybe a bit pricier than generic tree pruners, but there are instances when there is simply no one that can do what he can - it's worth every penny. In recent years, I've had work done by three different tree services. TLC is far and away the best of the lot. TLC's hourly rate is higher than that of the other services that I've used, but this is one of those cases where one gets what one pays for.
