Bart responded promptly to my request for an estimate to prune my ginormous fan palm that was blocking my neighbor's ocean view. I personally had no interest in pruning it, aside from appeasing my neighbor, so I wanted to spend as little money as possible. The tree is probably 50 feet tall and hadn't been trimmed in 20 years. There were also various utility cables running through the tree. One more obstacle was that the tree is next to the fence of my downhill neighbor, who has a lovely custom patio and jacuzzi just underneath the tree. Of utmost importance was not damaging the downhill neighbor's property. Bart (and other tree trimmers) came out to see the tree and give me estimates. All the tree trimmers who responded were professional and attentive to our needs. They all gave bids that were considerate of our priorities. The bids ranged from $600 plus dumping fees to over $2,000 to bring in a fancy truck and netting system to catch the fronds before they hit our roof or the neighbor's yard. There was one that also included plywood over the windows that were nearby. Bart was a stand out among the trimmers we met with. He had a great vibe and seemed to be smart, caring and efficient. He also advised he was bonded and insured. We are putting a new roof on already in a couple of months, so we went for the lowest bid, which came from Bart. Bart and his crew showed up on time the morning of the job. We had asked them not to turn on any chainsaws until 9 am to give our neighbors a chance to wake up in peace and leave for work without heavy equipment in the street. Thank you for honoring this request, Bart. It was fascinating to watch the main guy up the tree work. There were 2 others who worked steadily hauling downed fronds from the back of the house to stack them in the driveway in front. By the time the tree was done, about 3 hours later, the stack was 20' wide by 5' tall. It was hard to believe it came from one tree! Bart's crew accessed the neighbor's property through us and did a great job cleaning up the fronds that fell over the fence. No damage was done to the neighbor's property. The crew then proceeded to chip up all the fronds, which they did quickly. They did an excellent job of cleaning up the impacted areas of my yard and were gone by 1 pm, which was considerably faster than I thought they'd be. Bart doesn't take Venmo, but Debbie, the owner, came by and picked up a check a few days later. While the crew was working on the tree, I did have a neighbor call me and tell me she had had a terrible experience hiring this company 20 years ago when she was very pregnant. Fortunately, I had read all the Yelp reviews from people who had commented that there was a man involved with this company a long time ago who was causing all the bad reviews. I can attest from my experience that that person is no longer involved. I worked with a woman for payment and Bart to arrange and oversee the job and both were lovely. Rude, disrespectful and degrading. I had my car parked on the street where there was no sign posted the night before, possibly after 8 when I no longer go outside. I will give it to them they knocked on my door to have me move it but the language and the degrading comments that came with it was disrespectful. I have a toddler who I cant just jump up and move my car. Even in front of my toddler he continued to call me names and cuss me out. Even after I moved my car he continue to curse at me all while holding my toddler. I don't care what kind of service they do, there was no Professionalism and I feel customer service matters. Economy Tree removed an enormous pine tree growing on a 45-degree slope close to my house. This project took three men five days because all limbs needed to be tied to control their fall because of the location of the tree. The men were very professional and expert in preventing damage to the mature ficus trees beneath the pine. The men were comprehensive in cleaning up the yard, driveway and street after each day of work. Bart gave me the best price among the three excellent tree service companies I contacted for this job. Highly recommend these guys. Bart -- the arborist -- showed up at the beginning to assess the tree and address our needs. Jose, Luis, and Augustine did the crown cleaning, crown reduction and interior growth pruning, safely raising the skirt level over the house. They were professional, courteous and quick. Our tree has been safely trimmed and the branches have a beautiful flow. They also hauled away and shredded all debris and did a great clean up of our yard. We had economy tree service trim four palm trees. 1k for the work. The trees look good. The problem we had was in the harassment for payment 24 hours after the work was completed. The team contacted my husband and demanded payment. The man stated "I don't give a f*** if you don't use us again we need you to pay now". I can understand if we took more than a couple weeks to follow through with payment but the next day seems a bit extreme. This was an employee and not the owner. I wouldn't recommend this company based off their customer service. The work was done well. Take your pick. read more

If I could give one star I would!! We called them up a month ago, the estimate was $700, and we set a date and they never showed up!! A month later, this week, my husband called again, they came and gave a new estimate - $2300, because the tree has a lot more leaves now. Mike was nice when he provided the quote. The job involved trimming a very large eucalyptus tree. They left the job site messy. He argued that he did not and sent his guys back to clean up. When I went to check on it it again I discovered that they had hidden a bunch of the larger logs/debris in the bushes. I called and asked him to come out again. He was a total jerk even though he knew that he lied and that his guys and done a terrible job. The debris filled the bed of a pickup truck and much of it was branches and logs with a diameter of over 12 inches. He had been caught. He was unpleasant, rude and totally unprofessional. read more

Economy came to our rescue when we needed it most! My parents had their backyard professionally landscaped fifteen years ago. When the new plants were installed, they initially looked beautiful. Little did we know that they'd turn into uncontrollable monsters. Help! The biggest offenders were three Queensland umbrella trees which were mistakenly planted too close to the house. Over time, the hefty root base of each ruined the patio pavers, and even worse, uplifted the home's concrete foundation a bit. Additionally, there were a number of king palms planted that had just gotten to be too large for the small yard. Time to go. My father interviewed a number of tree companies, but ultimately chose Economy after a successful consultation with Travis. He felt confident that the company could do the necessary work - and let me tell you, this was no small job. There was a bit of an issue with getting the crew out to do the job during the promised time. There were a few "no call, no show" days per my dad. Eventually, the crew did come through, though. Economy ended up tackling the job in two days. There was a lot of heavy hauling, and they made the process seem easy! They left the yard clean, which I appreciated. However, soon after, new trees were sprouting up from the roots, and I called to see if they could come and check it out. I never received a call back. They were cutting my neighbors tree and had a lot of branches fall into my yard. It broke a bunch of string lights that I had hanging. When I confronted the person that was working he said they would clean everything up and replace the lights. When I got home from work they had left a note saying they would clean it later. So I had my whole yard filled with branches and broken glass overnight. I called and asked about it and the lady I spoke to was extremely unprofessional. It's been a week now and they did clean up the branches but I still have a bunch of broken bulbs and I cant get a hold of them. read more

My parents were approached by this company and were interested in having some trees trimmed and removed. They were given a very reasonable quote of $650 by Travis for the work they needed done and agreed to the price. After this is when the real problems began. First, they did not show up for the first appointment. The next appointment they had rescheduled for, they rescheduled again; and then again for a 3rd time. The day of the 4th scheduled appointment Travis and the owner (Mike) and a crew of 3 arrived and did a walk around. That's when Mike told my parents that the work they needed done was way more than what they were going to be paid and that he and his crew might as well pack up and leave because it wasn't worth it. Who does business like that?? He then asked my parents how much more they were willing to pay which my mom agreed to another $200 (a total of $850). He agreed to that amount and the crew started the work. The crew completed the majority of the job that day but said they would have to come back the next day to complete it. The 3 workers (not Travis or Mike) returned the next day and completed the work - which both of my parents agreed was excellent. Travis called and told my dad that the work they had done was still more than what they were being paid. My dad told him that the quote he was given was for the work that had been done and didn't understand why it wasn't enough. Travis then came by the house to have a face-to-face conversation later that day. At that point Travis asked if they were able to pay any more money. Because the work that had been done was so great, they asked how much more he wanted. At that point he told them it was a $1,500 job...more than double his original quote. He asked if they could pay a total of $950 (another $100 from the adjustment the day before) but my dad, having heard the final amount, agreed to $1,050 because he didn't want to take advantage of the work that had been done. This was a shady deal. Underbid to get the job and then increase the price when the work is already done? That's bad business. read more

Although the topping of trees is commonly known to be very harmful to trees (it may even kill them) and to the environment, ECT workers chopped off the tops of three trees. They seemed unwilling to discuss their method of "trimming" trees and continued to work. Today, ECT is "trimming" a very large, very old, beautiful oak tree adjacent to our property. It is heartbreaking to watch these workers carve up & chop the tops off of this beautiful oak tree, as well as a very old olive tree (admittedly unhealthy). This is not our property, so I will not attempt to communicate w the workers again. Oaks are slow-growing trees. These trees are a treasure to our community. They do not require aggressive pruning, especially in view of our ongoing drought in SB. How are these workers trained? What methods are they taught to use? In drought-stricken SB, trees are a gift. A beautiful, mature tree cannot be replaced. Economy Tree Service organization does not seem to respectfully care for them. No amount of money saved by hiring a company because of a "reasonable quote" is worth it. read more

I hired Economy Tree Service to do a large project at my house in Hope Ranch. The owner Mike was a very nice personable guy and I allowed him to do my work as "fill-in" when his schedule was slow. The entire project was $12,000 spread out over a 4 month period. Mike gave me a quote of $1,250 for finish up the last of the work. Unfortunately he died over Christmas, literally days before his crew was supposed to show up. His assistant then came over to review the unfinished work and refused to honor Mike's quote, instead he wanted to charge me twice as much. I very politely explained to him that he was getting involved at the tail-end of a very big project and I think the owner had factored that in when he quoted me for the finishing touches. His assistant was VERY RUDE and basically said "go F@%* yourself if you don't like my price, I have plenty of other work". I would NEVER EVER use Economy Tree again. read more

I would not recommend using Economy Tree Service. I hired them to cut up our fallen tree at the bottom of our property, and neatly stack the wood while I was out of town. Once they started, they decided that the amount that they agreed for us to pay, was far too low, and got very upset with me about this. They threw a great deal of the cut wood right on top of the fallen fence, and even tossed wood on our neighbor's property. They refuse to come back and move the wood off of our neighbor's land and off of the broken fence. I am now forced to hire someone to finish the job properly. read more

His price was very fair and significantly lower than two other bids that were made. On the day that the job was to be done, the folks arrived on time and diligently worked to complete the job in a timely manner. I was very impressed with their skill and bringing down the high/large limbs of the tree so as to not damage my neighbors house and the surrounding landscaping. I had a huge Date Palm tree crown fall. I called many companies. Everyone at Economy Tree was wonderful! I spoke to Michael, and Christian, and a then a crew of 4 super great guys came and took down my huge 30 foot trunk and cut up my huge palm crown, all in less than a day! They were 1/2 the price of the other quotes, and THEY EVEN CREATIVELY CARVED the trunk of the tree to make me a beautiful garden throne! no extra charge! They also moved huge pieces, 8 foot each, of the trunk to make a seating area, and the extra 8 feet, they carved into stools and a table top for another great seating area! all included. These were super heavy to move around to the places I EXACTLY wanted, but they were just great and with smiles moved them to where I wanted. These are great guys, super great prices, and I'm so happy with the very quick, professional work they did, they even trimmed up trees I asked that were bothering me, I tipped them, they deserved it!! read more
