Note: This review only applies to the driving range Kind of tucked away in a less than savory part of town, but this is a really nice driving range for a city facility. Pretty good rates on balls, the mats are well kept, and the pins are well marked. Can't speak for the full course, but if you're just looking for a nice place to go hit a bucket or two, this is a good pick. read more

If you hate fun and love to play with a stick up your ass then this is the course for you. You're better off playing Wii sports golf at home. No cart service on the course until the 14th hole too. The redo of the Highlands née West course justifies the higher rates. The track honored it's history; Bredemus, Trevino and Thompson, and changed (almost) all the holes for the better. The West was always a beast to walk when it's hot, but it's a joy when it's cool. Highlands is one of my favorite municipals in DFW. Re the Glen , nee East; well.. there's only so much $ to maintain public tracks. I still like its ancient push-up greens. It's out and back design reminds you of its age and heritage. Originally built in 1924, this course was renovated in 2001 and brought up to date with modern standards. There are 36 holes here laid out over two separate courses named The Highlands and The Glen. The Highlands is generally considered the better of the two courses and the green fees reflect it. Despite the tree lined fairways, this course plays rather easy. And at just over 7000 yards, it's very gettable if you can play from the middle. Not too much in the way that you can't see here either. The driving range employs artificial turf mats, so if this is a problem for you, make sure you warm up elsewhere before you arrive. They do have a decent short game and putting area, but the bunkers both here and throughout the rest of the course could use some attention. The day I played was after a rain, so I'll give them that, but they do need to do better. I was disappointed that they were left in such condition. Altogether though, this course is a great play with consistent conditions and friendly staff. Played here many times over the years, and there is really only one thing to say: Don't ever play the Glen course. Highlands is well-kept for the money and not too tough of a course. Glen is not well kept and just plain a waste of $$. The grill is subpar, not many options. The carts are fine, no GPS, no outlets, but not to be expected on a public course. Location is decent, about 10-15 minute drive from Dallas if no trafiic. read more

This is one of the worst public courses to play a round on the weekend. I write this because a round takes 5-6 hours. Incredibly slow pace with no marshals helping. I give this two stars because the highlands course is nice. I enjoy playing on the weekdays after 4pm when it isn't crowded. read more

Tee boxes aren't much of a tee box. Greens are trash and inconsistent. Don't bring your own cooler bc they will take it and dump it all out. The Michelob and Miller that I had in the cooler we're confiscated but they had the nerve to put back the empty Michelob bottles into my cooler and I imagine the Miller were sold back to customers in the pro shop because there were no empty Miller bottles in my cooler (NO SIGN saying you can't bring your own coolers either). No true explanation was given to me for this action either. All in all, don't waste your time or money at this establishment. read more

Review is primarily for the Glen course. It is a fun, varied course, lots of water gives you a challenge, no sand. $15 to walk, ($12 if you play in the afternoon), and a course that is in quite good condition. There are a couple of greens that have some iffy spots, but mostly it is in great shape. Snack/beer cart makes the rounds at least on weekends. Usually not as busy as the Highlands course, so easy to get on and better pace of play/no one breathing down your neck. read more

This course is the worst. Let me first say that I've received bad service before and it's usually due to laziness or just a lack of interest in the job. This was different though. Over a weekend in April my father flew in to town and we decided to play golf on our birthdays, which were a few days apart. The Tenison website has a deal where if you sign up for their weekly newsletter, you get a free round of golf and half a cart rental. I told him to sign up and I did as well so we could get our free birthday round. A week out, I called to make my tee time on the Glen course and they gave me a 12:14 PM tee time. I then informed the associate on the phone that we were coming with two of the birthday coupons, and was inquiring if I needed to let them know in advance or if I can just show up with the coupons. He told me I was good to just bring them in when we arrive and checked in. A week later, we showed up with our foursome, headed to the register to check in and get our carts. I was not greeted with a hello or good afternoon or anything, so that was nice. I gave him my name and he started looking for my tee time. I then informed him that we had some birthday coupons to which he dryly without missing a beat told me I can't use them before 1 PM on the weekends (It was a Saturday). A little irritated that I wasn't told that on the phone when I specifically made a point to inform them about the birthday coupons in advanced, I replied letting him know I did just that when I called to make the tee time a week ago. This associated looked me dead in the eyes and said, "No one would have said that here." So now, this omniscient sales associate is calling me a liar to my face. To be honest, I was disgusted at how they handled that situation. Absolutely no friendliness from the get go and then this crappy attitude, there's a way to earn repeat business. Here's what's pathetic about this whole situation, our tee time was at 12:14 PM, a mere 46 minutes from when I could use the birthday coupons, really? Can't let that slide by 46 minutes and gain a customer for life? Instead, you lost 3 in town costumers, 1 out of town customer and a few of my golfing colleagues that I immediately told to stay away from this place. So good job. Congratulations. After all that, they didn't even sign our group up for the right course. This place is sad and pathetic, as you can sense right when you walk into the clubhouse. So please, do yourself a favor and stay away. They are unfriendly and unwilling to provide simple customer service. read more

Highlands course is in much better shape then the other course. Played both in the same week and wasn't even close. However don't let that pull you away. They have a great practice range and the highlands course overall was in great shape. The other course was not in bad shape by any means a just not as good and tends to flood. Can be a little backed up on weekends. Great twilight course. read more

Course is not bad, fun track actually. We went on a rainy day, and we rented clubs and golf carts. The cart seats were wet due to the elements. We were told if we wanted a towel to wipe the seats down we'd need to purchase the retail golf towels. It was almost laughable...except we were wet, so less funny. They charged our friend who arrived late $16 to drive around with us for 5 holes. And told him to wipe down his cart with paper towels from the bathroom. Unbelievable haha. Seemed to be run that particular day by a young, immature group. I'd hope if owner was present it would've been a different experience. read more

OMG! i live in the mesquite area, so normally i play golf courses around east dallasarea....DO NOT PLAY THE GLEN COURSE!!! this past weekend(fathers day weekend) went out and played tenison park east course(glen), the greens were in extremely in bad shape, especially hole #1..it was horryble.......i mean that was the worst green i have ever seen......and besides that, they are still charging people regular price......dont play there! there is a golf course about 5-7 minutes down the street that is in way better shape....grover keeton... read more

Went for a decent day of golf ended up having my tailgate stolen in the parking lot in broad day. This is even crazier because it's a gated fenced parking lot with an armed security guard that is supposed to patrol the parking lot. When I questioned the guard I had to wait because he was on the phone on a personal call. When he finally got around to me his response was that he must have not seen it happen... the staff was very dismissive stating they don't have security cameras in the parking lot and it's not their problem. The tone changed when I brought up calling the police. I would not be surprised if the security guard was in on it and let one of his friends come up and steal my tailgate. This review is on the driving range. So your hitting off mats which isn't that bad if they were good mats but these feel like hitting off shag carpet... Anyways the really horrible thing is the balls. The balls are awful. Most feel like rocks, some feel like mush, some even have cuts on them. Even worse all nearly have all the dimples beaten off them. So don't expect to get a true ball flight. I've had some take off like they were going to draw and then fall to the right. Really get new balls...also annoying is the building is like 15 feet behind you so combined with the rock your hitting and the echo behind you. No matter how flush you hit the ball it feels harsh. These courses are pretty nice. The Glen has a good layout, it's cheap, and you get what you pay for. (conditions are sub par) But, if you're a novice or just want to kick it around it's fine and has some good holes. The Highlands may be my favorite mun. track in Dallas. Course conditions here are much better (more $s charged and spent). Greens are usually smooth, but speeds can vary dramatically from round to round. My problem here is the service. A while back a group of friends and I attended a Toys for Tots tourn. We all brought toys and accounted for 3 of the 5 foursomes present. Half of our group played college golf and most are members at clubs here in Dallas. Etiquette really isn't an issue with this group, but 1 guy had a beer in his bag from another day and the cart girl saw it. His foursome was immediately cut off even after he apologized. After the round we went into the clubhouse to see the scores come in and when the cart girl walked through and realized we were all together, we were all cut off. And to be clear we were not drunk or out of line. Today I was thinking about going back asked the woman who answered in the pro shop: Me- How's the course looked after the storms that rolled through last night. T- What do you mean? (terse) Me- There was a lot of wind and rain last night, but I do not know how much accumulation there was. T- We are cart path only today. (short) Me- Well I was actually looking at making a tee time for tomorrow or the the next day... T- There is no way of predicting how the course will react. (short again) Me- audible sigh (losing patience fast) T- If there is sun and wind it will dry faster. Me- Well it's supposed to be sunny, 80, and 20 mph wind today and tomorrow looks similar. Is the course saturated or is it close... T- (Cuts me off) We are cart path only today. (Very short) Me- (click) I shouldn't let these things bother me, but I want this place to be good as it is only a couple blocks from my house. They simply need to hire better people or hold them to a higher standard. read more

This course was possibly the worst course I have ever played, after almost 30 years of playing golf. The Glen course was an odd combination of rock hard and swampy. There was an abundance of plastic trash and aluminum cans lining the ponds and streams. One hole was shortened by almost half because of restoration work. Two other holes had wide swaths of construction work just about where the drives land. There was no access to the clubhouse after the 9th hole. That would have been okay, but the bathrooms were unusable because the only door, the exterior door, would not close. We were warned the Glen course was not as "nice" as the Highlands. I wonder how awful that course is; but, I am not going back there to find out. read more

If I could rate Tenison Park less than 1 star I would. My rating has nothing to do with the course itself. Both the Highland and Glen courses are decent tracks, and courses any level of golfer can enjoy. My review comes from the experience I had with a group of colleagues from work during a golf outing. Never in our time playing golf and playing many courses have we ever been treated with the disrespect, contempt and unprofessional behavior we experienced from some of the staff at Tenison Park. First off the woman who was the course attendant was mean, rude, contemptuous and simply a poor choice of staff to put in place on a course to be selling drinks and snacks to people. She was quite possibly the poorest example of a customer service representative I have ever encountered. In our first encounter with her she immediately told our group she was calling the clubhouse because we were not following the "cart-path-only rule" which no one in our party was informed of upon checking in at the clubhouse that morning. It turned out there was no cart-path-only or 90-degree rule that day. She offered nothing to us and scoffed when no one wanted to buy anything. We were 3 holes in. We didn't need anything at that point. We encountered her again a few holes later where she proceeded to reach into one of our carts and grab a beer can from one of our party and pour it out, stating something to the effect of, "If you want to drink, buy something from us." Then proceeded to visually search our carts as she drove by each one. After that she passed us up on her next rounds, except on one occasion where she stopped and inspected our carts again. We were fine with her passing us up after that. We were not going to buy anything from her anyway after the experiences we'd had with her. The other experience we had with course staff was on the 10th hole with the Marshall. We were a group of 8 playing as two foursomes in a four-man, best-ball scramble and the lead group had waited for the other to catch up on the 10th green, since at the turn on the Glen Course you are no where near the club house so most people just continue playing through instead of stopping at the turn before continuing. So, there are 8 of us standing around or on the 10th green when the Marshall pulls up and without introducing himself or speaking to anyone, jumps out of his cart and proceeds to start yelling at us like we were a bunch kids and demands, "I want four of you to leave this hole right now and move on to the next! Right now! No course in America will allow a group of 8 to play together!" He never gave us a chance to explain what was going on he just drove up, acted completely unprofessional and down right tried to intimidate us with his language and actions. After unsuccessfully trying to explain the situation to him, (he didn't care what we had to say anyway), we complied with his request, however unprofessionally it may have been delivered to us, and moved on. Up to that point we had been having a great time, but after the encounter with the Marshall it pretty much ruined the day for most of us. We played through and I went in the clubhouse to speak to the manager when we finished. However, there was no manager available. When I asked if there was a manager I could speak to the gentleman at the counter replied, "Well, not really." I told the guys at the desk about our experience and that we would not be back but I don't think they really cared. read more

Stay away. This course is awful. Service, conditions, staff attitude are all horrible. Yes, it is a city run course, but there should be at least a modicum of customer service. Forget that, the customer is a bother. Course conditions are one of neglect and uncaring. No functioning bathroom facitlities or they are rural outhouse conditions. No cart service, no potable water to drink on the course. No course marshal to maintain pace of play. Driving carts and pull carts are in deplorable conditions. I have given this place as many chances as I can. I will not return. Headed to Grover Keeton course. read more

I was accosted today by an employee named Anne. She proceeded to unleash a tirade of curse words mostly starting with the letter 'F.' I looked at her, dumbfounded as I could not comprehend that she was, in fact, standing in a city park telling a citizen of the city how he was "f***ing stupid" and to "get the f**k out" reiterating that "this is a f**king golf course." This was all in response to seeing me happily riding a bike on the cart path on a sunny Good Friday. All I could think was, "man, I hope she doesn't kiss her grandchildren with that nasty mouth." During this altercation the employee also took a threatening posture and drew her fist back as if she was going to strike me. I contacted the Course and Clayton Derr the director stated that he did not care what I had to say and proceeded to hang up the phone. I sure hope Clayton and Anne have better days. I would hate to think that this is their everyday life. read more

Played the week of 9/6/2014. The $55 for the Highlands is overpriced for the poor customer service and a cart girl that needs a name tag and a new attitude. The course was saturated with water and scalped in certain portions of the fairway where you would rather be in the rough to hit off. I will never play this course again until "Sweetheart" is gone and the consenting search warrants are eliminated. read more

Played on a Dallas Cowboy Sunday game day so the pace of play was a little over 3 1/2 hours. The round was a little pricey at $120 for the two of us but the course was in nice shape, with the greens rolling well. The staff was nice and although we didn't buy from her, the cart girl was seen a few times throughout the round. read more

Played there Nov 10 & 12, 2016. Really like this place, just be sure to only play the Highlands Course. The other course isn't worth mentioning. Highlands has many elevation changes and the layout is fair. Greens were excellent. The Pro Shop and Driving Range are as good as it gets for a public facility. read more

meh is perfect. the glen consistently has the worst greens. they are perpetually being worked on or need to be worked on. i'v probably played there over 50 times over the last 5 years and i can't remember them ever being in good shape. The highlands is in infinitely better condition, but one just needs to drive a couple miles further east to keeton to play on a course in consistently great condition for half the price. Finally, played the other day because it's closest to me. Went in at 530 pm and told the person working the register to only charge me for 9 holes of the cart because of the late hour. he told me he wouldn't be able to do that for another half hour. i told him that sundown was at 7, he then negotiated down to me waiting 15 minutes. A 1.5 hour 9 holes for a twosome isn't blistering, but given the fact that they're getting the full greens fee combined with the fact that we may have gotten another hole or two doesn't seem to offset the goodwill conveyed by making the customer happy. read more
