Located inside an old Wendy's, Tenji transformed the inside into an intimate dining area perfect for date nights, dinners, or nights out with friends complemented by great service. Hands down one of, if not the best, sushi spots in the Cincinnati area. Definitely recommend the King Salmon and Bluefin O-Toro Nigiri, both are super buttery and melt in your mouth when you eat them! I cannot express how amazing Tenji is! An old Wendy's on the outside, but nice renovations inside. The fish is fresh and delicious. Their rolls are pretty big and are so tasty. I have gone twice in a span of one week! First time, I went with my family and when I took all these pictures. The second time was on Valentine's Day. The staff are amazing and so kind. Even with a packed house, they still provide great service. You can tell how loved this place is by how many people were waiting to get in on Valentine's Day! It was hard to wrap our heads around the fact that this was obviously, previously a Wendy's. They tried to make the inside inviting, but it's just bizarre. However, we read the food was great, so we met our friends there. Our server was very soft spoken and didn't exude confidence, but she did a very good job. The sushi IS very good. We had the Hana Roll and our companion had the Mexican Roll with no sauce. Both were very fresh. The yellowtail nigiri was also perfectly fresh and lovely. The vegetable tempura was just okay. We didn't love the sauce, and it was the last dish served at our table? There was one piece of onion ring, broccoli, asparagus, zucchini, and two pieces of sweet potato. Our friend was confused by her Bento Box as the fried rice she asked for was odd, and the shrimp came one fried, and three in a sauce. The Tonkatsu Ramen was good, but not great. The broth was flavorful, but the noodles were all in a solid clump, and the egg was whole instead of cut in two, so I had to take it out and cut it with a knife. The pork was tender but didn't stand out. I ordered miso cod as it is one of my favorite dishes, but they just re-did their menu and took that off. Bummer. read more

I ordered takeout and only tried the sushi. My thoughts: not horrible, but not good. I got the Kings Island Roll ($14.95), Hana Roll ($15.95), and Salmon Roll ($7.45). All three tasted fishy and the salmon wasn't fresh. Prices are similar to other spots in the area, but the quality is worse. Wow!!! So impressed by my first meal here. Tenji was not on my radar at all, and then I saw a post on Chowhound that said something about a chef Jiro here. Idk if that's his real name or not but I never pass up the opportunity to support a Japanese owned business and I'm so glad I gave them a try!! I ordered just basic rolls - tuna, hamachi, toro (uncommon on menus around here and it was so good), eel & avocado and splurged on the dragon. All were fantastic and the fish was so fresh, even on a Monday. Anthony Bourdain says not to eat in restaurants on Mondays but the rules don't seem to apply here! The rice was seasoned beautifully and everything tasted perfect. The dragon roll in particular smacked me in the face with flavor and creaminess; a special roll actually worth spending the money on. Something about the sushi here tasted so familiar to me, a native Californian who has also lived in Hiroshima. It has a very casual and homey taste while also demonstrating mastery and great flavor. It really reminded me of my favorite sushi restaurant, Wakamatsu in Hayward which is the highest compliment I can give. It tastes like the sushi of a chef who has been making sushi for a very long time. I could be totally wrong on this assessment, and if I am then that's even more props to an amazing chef! Reading the reviews here it seems like they have gone through changes in management and menu. To me it's clear that Tenji is in very good hands. I would be happy to try some kitchen items here especially the okonomiyaki which I don't see on menus super often. I'm so looking forward to my next experience here!! read more

Updating my review since they have changed ownership recently. Sushi is on par and they really have some interesting choices. The bluefin tuna, salmon and shima aji (recommended by the chef) were amazing. And right now, all sushi is 50% off. Rolls were good but I have to admit, with the sushi being so great, I'd just go get some of the special fish they have not seen everywhere. My Korean friend (so am I) and I discovered this place about three months ago after I read a review from Keith Pandolfi. At first, the Sushi and Hibachi (made in the kitchen) were amazing! We have a Sushi "date" weekly and decided the drive to Mason was worth it. My brother was in town visiting and I decided to treat him to our favorite Sushi place. The owner's wife is Japanese and was okay with us until she was not. We always spent over $150 between the two of us and tip generously. They are never busy regardless of the time of day. 5/14/26 was the last time we visited. They were out of small bottles of Sapporo, Nigori (the green bottle) and some of our favorite sushi. (I learned from a friend that when a business is going under they begin to run out of food and beverages). When the Tuna Sushi came out it was a light pink, not a robust almost red color that it had always been. The owner's wife was almost rude to us, and left while we were still dining and did not say goodbye to us. It made me very sad as I love to support local business owners. I realize that nothing is 100%; however, each time we visited she was less cordial, and I believe it is because we both are Korean. Her wait staff and husband were alway friendly and sweet to us, but we decided we will not be returning ever again. I wish them well and hope their business picks up. read more

I loved everything about this restaurant! The decor was clean and understated, and the waitress was pleasant and helpful. But it was the food that completely blew me away. I started with a spicy kani salad, which had a perfect ratio of crab and veggies (heavily favoring the crab) and was flavorful and perfectly spiced. The hibachi salmon was well-grilled (though a little dry), and I loved the vegetables and miso soup that accompanied it. And of course I had to order two hand-rolls with it: the California roll and the spicy shrimp roll. They were both fresh and well-constructed, though I thought the spicy shrimp roll was exemplary -- a real taste explosion with each bite!! I ended with the mango crepe cake for dessert. This was a real treat, as most Japanese restaurants don't offer dessert options. And this dessert was exemplary. It was a combination of gelatin, whipped cream, mango flavoring, and thin layers of crepe -- and was sweet, light, and refreshing at the same time. I'm vegetarian so I got the avocado & cucumber rolls...dipped in soy sauce...delicious! I got hot tea which was a nice mild tea, perfect for our meal. The presentation for our meal was 10 out of 10!!!!! There was dry ice floating out of a small vase, lights, and the food was partly on a bamboo boat and partly on a thick dark green leaf. Now the service was just okay, the waitress was nice , however, it's not super welcoming nor very attentive. Additionally, we only ordered 3 rolls of sushi and it took more than a half hour to come out. We had the sunday morning, out of control and the double taste roll. The pork egg roll is a little thinner than most restaurants but is one of the best egg rolls I have had in a very long time. On top of the food I ordered a Heineken and my bill was under $13! Even at full price the food is a steal! The exterior looks a bit unkempt but please don't let that fool you this restaurant is a gem as soon as you step inside!
