We hired them in the fall to do some work, asking for a low maintenance option for our front and back yard. They completely misled us on the scope of work for the back and planted the front in late fall, just as the weather turned cold. And the cost was astronomical! Now half the plants are dead because of the brutal winter even though I asked them if we were planting too late. And I'm spending all kinds of time and effort to keep the remaining plants alive. Low maintenance my @ss! And in the back, all the weeds and random plants they were supposed to eradicate are all coming back. I cannot stress enough how horrible they are. read more

I cannot recommend Tenleytown enough. They first installed sod about two years ago, and gave me easy care instructions and made the front lawn look gorgeous. Then, I asked them to lay flagstone on my back concrete and front porch area. The raw concrete was so disgusting I never went outside, and they did a beautiful job - installed gorgeous flagstone, plus a sunken garden bed for the back! I'm outside all the time now. They were easy to work with, kind, asked questions and made sure everything was what I wanted. They also installed new sod to repair the old grass that was injured during the flagstone install. I love them for both landscape and hardscape. In DC it is so hard to find capable workers who don't cut corners - Tenleytown is simply the best, from the workers to the project managers and owners. Bamboo had been growing for years and had spread throughout the backyard. The team removed all the bamboo roots with a backhoe and then covered the soil with wood chips to prevent erosion and which will decompose over the winter, enriching the soil. The team left the yard ready for planting in the spring and have given my yard a promise of a renewed and healthier life. Their thoroughness and attention to detail showed an expertise and in depth knowledge of how best to 'get the job done'. I recommend this team to tackle the difficult job of removing bamboo complete with all roots. If bamboo sprouts from roots left behind, they'll remove. Finally, bamboo-free! read more

Tenleytown did an amazing job clearing the virtual jungle of liriope and vines out of my yard. Joel and his brother-in-law worked tirelessly for two, long days, accommodating any request to move or split a plant, quickly and willingly, and trimmed things as needed without being asked. They were great. They mulched over any bare areas and cleaned up the huge mess of dirt and debris from the removal, and left everything looking neat and orderly. They do regular yard maintenance as well as one-time projects, at a reasonable price in our experience. They renovated our yard with clearing/pruning, extending/burying drain hoses, topsoil replacement, transplanting, adding sod/mulch/nuggets, and some hardscaping. We had met with several landscape companies (including some well-known "big" names) to discuss our project and possible maintenance of our lawn and yard. Overall, the process had been frustrating and there was lack of communication and follow-up, and we felt we weren't getting anywhere. They were responsive, creative, answered our questions and provided a high level of customer service that we surprisingly and disappointedly did not receive from some of the other companies. I have a townhouse with a small yard in Northwest DC with decorative plantings that need gentle care. Tenleytown has taken care of yard for several years and it always looks well groomed. If left alone, it would be taken over by weeds. Their workers listen to us and cut the bushes just the way we want them to look. Their office staff is friendly and helpful and they're a pleasure to deal with. Their prices are reasonable. Terrible customer service. Peter, the VP of Operations, set up a time to come out and give me an estimate on some landscaping work, and potentially on a brick/stone patio. We set it up for 8 am. At 8:25 I called to check and make sure he was on his way (in case he was stuck in traffic). I am confident that he forgot about the appointment as I had to remind him I even had an appointment. Once reminded his only response was to make up an excuse by telling me that the weather messed up their scheduling. There was zero effort to call and tell me that they would not be showing up. It was a big waste of my time - don't waste yours, call someone else!! read more

I called Tenleytown Lawn and Landscape to do some work on my front yard. Specifically, I needed to have the sidewalk repaired and I wanted to have a new sod lawn put in to replace the old one. I have to say I am extremely satisfied with the work that was done. The sidewalk was a wreck with all the grout between the pavers completely eroded away to the point that it was dangerous to walk on. This has been totally corrected. All the old grout was removed and replaced with a more durable compound. The old lawn was a wreck. It was totally removed, new soil brought in, the ground ameliorated and leveled, and finally new sod put down. I should also add that before the sod was put down new drainage pipes were also installed to direct water away from the house. The team that did the work was professional, diligent and friendly. And, they showed up on time and cleaned up all debris. The lawn looks great. I intentionally waited a month before posting this review to ensure that it took root, etc. I followed the instructions provided by Pete (the company owner) and am ecstatic about the results. I've received numerous complements already. I would not hesitate to recommend this company. They were responsive, friendly, and hard working. A+++++ read more

I had to call Pete and his company to redo work that a five star company reviewed on yelp did. I should kick myself for not having gone with him in the first place but reviews being reviews I thought I had the best. Pete arrived on time, and knew exactly why I was having problems with the work done and together we came up with a plan to correct it. He asked for my input, but also added what he thought, and why, which helped me understand why certain plants and trees were better than others and what to expect. My yards, front and back are beautiful, and cannot stop looking at them! He built the stone walls higher and completed the side walk and stairs that gives my back a complete look, plus he found the crepe myrtles I specified, all in a short, timely period. I will not hesitate to call again, and will use his company on a regular basis for maintenance. I have an idea for flowers and cannot wait to consult him on various ideas. read more

I called Tenleytown Lawn and Landscape to get an estimate for an overhaul of my front and backyard. I bought my house and the yard just hadn't been maintained at all by the prior owner. I did what I could on my own but it still needed serious help. I had contacted Pete and he came out for an estimate. He was patient with me as I was only sure of what I didn't want as opposed to what I did want which made it difficult. He made great suggestions based on my wants and what would work in this area with the sun exposure my yard receives. After just the first day of cleanup, my yard looked totally different. They did such a good job that during the project, I actually expanded the scope and had them enlarge my back porch and cover it with flagstone. They completely overhauled my yard, resized existing planting beds, planted flowers, shrubs, trees, and sod, mulched, and trimmed existing shrubs. It looks amazing as does my new porch. In fact, I've had more than one person comment on how great my yard looks. I'm so happy with the work they performed I've actually already recommended them to a coworker. The bottom line is they did great work at a reasonable price and were reliable and professional.
