Wonderful place to bring kids for tennis lessons. My one note is that you really don't know who your instructor is till you show up. All the coaches have been wonderful however to advance it would be better to have one coach consistently and there is no way to do that when you book a lesson. Just like having a personal trainer at the health club . It's like having a different personal trainer everyday and sometimes you may have the same one. i think this place might be an actual fraud. kept rescheduling my lessons. i cancelled a bunch as well. they won't respond to emails on getting my refund. am now having to file dispute through credit card - thankfully there is an email thread... really disappointing. truly save yourself the headache. i saw these reviews before and gave the benefit of doubt and can say they everyone was totally right. very sketchy operations and pretty much thieves. read more

BEWARE: THEY STEAL YOUR MONEY! I'm reviewing this company on their practices and business team. They are completely unorganized, unprofessional, and give you false promises. I've taken multiple classes with them over the years and always had issues getting refunds. As an alternative, I was typically able to make up the service with make-up classes at other times. However, in Spring 2024, it changed. I was registered for a Spring 24 class at Riverside/119th. First the class had a delayed start date and then cancelled (with no notice. I emailed to follow up) because they no longer had the permit to operate. Since there was no longer a location that I could go to, I asked for a refund. After promised a refund, it was never issued. Matteo is the only who replies to emails, but he's not a decision maker. If you call the number, no one picks up. After multiple inquiries over many months about my refund status, they simply stopped responding. Matteo strings you along, and makes it seem like something is going to get resolved. However, you try to talk to someone else - the mystery Juan who is supposedly going to issue refund - then it's no response. Ultimately, I'm out over $400 for a class that never happened and it's their fault. read more

If you know how to play tennis more than the basics, the 500 8th Ave location of Tennis Innovators is NOT for you. I would say I am a 3.5 level player and this is a better setup for pickleball. These are not full size courts (length or width) and you play with the green children's ball due to the plastic material that the surface is made out of. I came here for one of their HIIT tennis classes on a Thursday night and was surprised at the condition of the place: it was still partially under construction, the courts are not all the same length, the floor is uneven in spots, and it feels like it was haphazardly put together. As for the class, there were 6 of us split between 2 courts, which were each different sizes. The instructors weren't that great and I feel I did not really practice anything beyond trying to hit a ball made for kids. My friend and I could barely hear each other with the music so loud and the acoustics so poorly set up. One instructor didn't know how to volley and kept hitting the balls so high but then commented we weren't hitting the shot properly. The other was nice but when you use the children's tennis balls, there is a different weight and bounce to them that is not the same as a real ball (which we were told bounces too much on this surface). All in all, don't waste your time or money on this location. You also won't get your heart rate up all that much too if you know how to play tennis...unless you're running to get out of the way of balls that bounce from the other court or off the walls/columns/windows. read more

We used Tennis Innovators for years with mixed results but my daughter and her friends loved some of their old Instructors. Unfortunately the owners and managers are not reachable and when they do finally get back to you they don't follow up on anything discussed. I organized a group of 5 children for them for a tennis session for the Spring they took our money knowing full well they lost access to the courts and promised us all they would issue refunds but its been 4 months without anything from them. Only reason I even give 1 star is because of the individual coaches, which have been great. The organization itself though have horrible communication, are mismanaged and not trustworthy. We have been requesting refunds on sign up for Astoria Park for months and they keep dodging, ignoring and outright lying to us about refunds coming. I will never sign up for any of their lessons again and would recommend people to stay away. read more

I signed up my daughter for the Fall 2024 classes and paid $1075. I received a confirmation email that I would be contacted at the end of August 2024 with the final schedule of classes. I wrote to the TI multiple times asking for confirmation about the classes, but did not hear back. In fact, I never heard from the school until September 8th, well after I was supposed to hear back. However, by this time, I disputed the charge on my credit card as it was clear to me that we were not going to receive the services that I paid for. When I wrote to TI again, they would not refund the amount because I opened a dispute on my credit card. While they do not help with scheduling at all, they have the time to dispute my credit card dispute instead of just issuing a refund as they should have. It is October now and the matter is still unresolved. TI seems more concerned about trying to keep my money than to keep a customer. They should do the right thing and refund the $1075 for the services I never received so I can drop the credit card dispute. I will follow up if this ends up in a lawsuit. read more

They still owe me $450 for classes that were supposed to happen in Astoria but never did back in April 2024. I've asked for refund multiple times and they had promised a refund in several emails. After I didn't receive a refund by July 2024, I threatened to sue them. They stopped responding after this. It is November now and still they haven't refunded me. I know of other two families who are awaiting refund as well. Beware, they are a scam! My son used to take lessons with them until one year when they said that the Parks don't allow them to take the courts anymore. They registered the students and took all the money and then left without refunding anyone even though they promised in writing they would. read more

We waited months until we finally contacted our credit card company. They responded to our credit card company saying it was a valid charge. I seldom post reviews but my surprise by how poorly this organization is run prompted me to post a review. They are very prompt in responding to student inquiries about the program and charging credit cards. However, once the student is signed up they do not respond to emails and cancel classes at the very last minute. The owners of the program need lessons on how to run a professional business. read more

This review is for the current year 2024, our experience has been very disappointing. First, they tend to cancel last minute (like hours before) always blaming the location, and take days to reply when inquiring. As a parent you want to have these things figured out early, I've had to multiple times scramble to change my work schedule because of their cancellations and lack of communication. Second, I've been concerned there is no women coach during their whole day camps, the young boys and men take the girls to the bathroom which is something I personally don't feel comfortable with. They charge the rate of an academy with actual tennis courts but if your kids are young they will just be in the sun and concrete (not a tennis court) with small portable nets setup. Other academies are charging the same but in actual tennis courts. read more

Read the other reviews- I absolutely would not recommend this business. I signed up a year ago and still have not received all services. They were quick to charge my card initially and very slow to offer a suitable time for classes, ultimately starting after the date advertised. Classes were cancelled due to weather (not their fault) but they are unwilling to offer their customers make up times that work for them. I ended up waiting til the spring to reach out again about using the make up classes (that don't expire) because they didn't have classes near me in the winter. After a few times of offering me times that would not work or were very last minute (repeatedly during the day or very late at night) they just stopped responding. I only received a response after reaching out to the BBB. Their response was unhelpful and candidly condescending as they referenced the many times they offered make ups and how I signed up initially a year ago. If they reread the correspondence they would understand that I denied the makeups because they didn't work for me and as a business they should have tried to accommodate. They also appeared to be using the fact that I reached out months after as a way to point out that I couldn't care that much, even though this was previously discussed. They never ended up responding to my BBB claim so please heed my warning and those of others. Even if they offered me comped classes at this point I would not feel comfortable attending. read more

I was really excited to go into tennis innovators because I hadn't played tennis in ages and was looking to get back into the game. Their HITT classes are pretty reasonably priced and they even give you a free evaluation (except they didn't really share results after so not sure of the point). Despite being called HITT, their classes aren't that active and the coaches try to lure students with alcohol. It's great if you're just looking to post that you play tennis on instagram but if you're actually interested in playing tennis I would recommend going somewhere else. read more

I am disappointed I did not find Tennis Innovators sooner as they are now closed at this location for the Winter. Who knew there was a tennis court on the roof of John Jay College? There were five of us in my Tennis Bootcamp class at 11am on a Sunday and one instructor. Our skill levels were a bit mixed, but the instructor did a good job of giving us equal playing time. The class consisted of different drills, both team and individual based. It is best if you can bring your own tennis racquet, but there are racquets available to borrow. Overall, I was very happy with the clinic and I hope they bring these classes back in the Spring. read more

Tennis innovators offers amazing classes and lessons for a range of different players. Their TI Bootcamp usually has about 4-6 players per class and the instructors change it up with different games, lessons and drills. Great workout and fun time! read more

Great Tennis lessons! The instructors are so awesome! My son started late (at age 8yo) but these instructors encouraged him and got him into the game and this experience made him fall in love with Tennis! I am very grateful! They never made him feel like he was not good enough- just paired him with the right level and give him the right coaching! Wish I'd found them sooner! read more
