They genuinely care about my dog and about the care that they are able to give him. Follow up calls and check ins occur very regularly; I have never had a vet's office call me to check how my dog is doing! Monday, I made the very difficult decision to have my senior cat euthanized. One of the hardest decisions of my life was made so much gentler with the help of the staff. My oldest son and I were able to stay with our cat for the entire time. The staff was compassionate and explained every step of the way. Our family was able to say good-bye feeling supported, comforted and understood.

They were able to slot us in for 5pm on a Sunday! I mean... really?! That was just amazing all by itself. But it only got better from there. They were able to screen us 15min early when we arrived, and then we only waited 20min after our appointment time to actually be taken in. Usually at these places there's a much longer wait. The reception staff were wonderfully courteous, professional, responsive and caring. They were busy, and with extenuating pandemic measures in place -- creating its own challenges, yet they all still found the time to not only see us but to wear a smile. A truly exceptional team. The vet, Dr Amand, was also a real pleasure to speak with. He explained everything thoroughly and knowledgeably. He was receptive to our desire to have multiple tests performed so as to narrow down any potential diagnosis, but never 'pushed' for it. You could easily tell he was empathetic to the notion that maybe some clients just wouldn't be able to afford the fees and as a result might feel emotionally pressured to try and find such precious funds from somewhere. We have pet ins so we wanted all the tests done, and while he agreed that the more tests there are, the better it is, he still did not insist upon it. There was one small minor issue we had regarding a product purchase with which Jocelyn was able to offer total resolution to our 100% satisfaction. We didn't end up following through with her offer, as we decided to donate the product instead, however just knowing it was feasible was something we appreciated. All in all it was a remarkably comfortable experience. We do, indeed, recommend this practice to anyone seeking their services. From arrival to departure, it was a total of 2 hours and 45 minutes. Well done! And may I just say, once again to their team, thank you so much. We really do appreciate your help that evening.

They said no problem, just be here before 3:15 p.m.. Not even 5 minutes later the office called me back & refused to see Stormy (13 year old shih tzu) because he is old & is too sick to be able to see him. We were 5 minutes away by this time. I was crushed. Stormy is really not well & they refused to see us, even with an appt. We would have been there by 3:10 p.m. This after my regular vet couldn't see us in a timely manner so they referred us to the Carling Animal Clinic. The Carling Animal Hosptial tried to send us to the Ottawa Veterinary Clinic at Carling, but they charge 2x the $! How could they refuse to see my dog because he's old & has too many symptoms?! It's unethical & unprofessional to say the least. If they did it to me, they will do it to others.

Unfortunately, it's expensive and I try to balance that what's good for them and what's in my budget. But they are so good here abou that, and I think that says a lot about them. My experience with Dr N Wanis during an euthanasia last year was awful. He was like a grim reaper…read morewalking around with two syringes in his hand. All I could feel was his pressure instead of giving me space with my beautiful girl in her final moments. Deaths are hard when they are unplanned; the care of the veterinarian becomes so important when walking into an unknown facility at the mercy of who you are going to get. My girl felt like her liver was exploding, and without tests, he suggested she had thrown a blood clot. He had no way of knowing; this information was given to me by my animal communicator after she transitioned. I did not even get a chance to say goodbye to my best friend before he rushed in to administer the syringes. It made a terrible experience even worse. I still have so much remorse for bringing her to this facility. I have heard that euthanasia is one of the most common occurrences for veterinarians; surely your bedside manner should be so much better than what it was. The fact that I am writing this review 15 months after her death means something.

I've taken our dog to Pretoria Pet Hospital for almost 2 years now and it has been a very good experience. I've visited them on numerous occasions; ranging from normals visits for vaccinations to an emergency visit when our puppy ate something that made him keep vomiting. Every time we've been treated with respect by the competent and courteous staff. Pretoria is in a great location. It is close to the canal path and Bank street so it is an easy walk for anyone who lives downtown. Being able to walk to the vet is important if you don't own a car as many taxi drivers will refuse service if your pet doesn't fit in a carrier and waiting for a pet taxi during an emergency is stressful. If you do have a car, they only have street parking but the street has very few business so I don't think you'll run into problems finding a spot. We did some price comparing when looking to get our dog neutered. We found Pretoria to be competitive with others vet in Ottawa but but on the higher end of estimates. For vaccinations Pretoria cost the same amount as the other places we were considering and was more convenient. The staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. During our visits we've seen four of the five veterinarians and they've all been wonderful. In fact, I like them so much I don't even bother requesting a specific vet when booking an appointment. The vet techs and assistants have all been very friendly and good at their jobs. They do a great job of getting our dog, who is weary of strangers, to let him take his temperature and check him out. The receptionists have all been very nice as well. They always call the day before our appointment to confirm appointments and actually call back if you leave a message. In addition, if you just have a question they'll check with a vet and call you back. This is great when you have a "my pet just _____ do I need to bring him in"" question. One time our dog managed to break off part of a knuckle bone and swallowed it. A short while later he started vomiting 5-6 times in a short period so I called Pretoria to see what they recommended. The reception was very helpful and were able to get me in to see a doctor within an hour to have our dog checked out. The vet did an examination and gave a prescription for two things to help him pass the bone chunks and keep down water. She said if that didn't work by tomorrow we should being him in for xrays and possibly surgery (all done in office). The total cost for the vet trip including medicine was around $180 and our dog recovered wonderfully after he took the medicine. Downtown is lucky to have such a great pet hospital. Yes, it is a little more expensive than some other options out in the suburbs but it is convenient and has a wonderful staff.

Each appointment was with a different doctor and never the same price as mentioned on the phone at the time we booked our appointments. We had such a bad experience at the last vaccine appointment before the surgery I didn't know if we should go back. They are not referring back to the cats file and are asking questions that is definitely in the file ( like if he as a microchip... yes you are the one who did it!) I was so concern that we wanted to talk to a manager or someone in charge. No one would take our call. We made a review on google, not a bad one, just fair, about our concerns. We then received a registered letter to ban our pet from the clinic, can't even buy the cat food there anymore. If this is how they handle a simple concern, I would want to know how they handle a real problem. My cat's health and safety is too important to me to leave it in the hands of a place that doesn't even care about the animal. DON'T GO THERE, there are plenty of good places in the city, avoid VETERINAIRE DU PLATEAU.
