Wife and I got here early on a Friday night and were surprised to find the place empty. We were promptly seated and the waitress took our drink order and brought menus. We had a couple of excellent margaritas and ordered strictly off-menu specials except for the espresso and apple tart after the meal. Everything was excellent and far exceeded our expectations. The service was fast and friendly. The food was excellent, as were the drinks. The bathrooms were clean, and the ambiance was much better than we expected. I'm not sure why this place wasn't packed, but I'm glad we took the chance to come where while visiting family. read more

A friend of mine and I met up for a drink. When I arrived I parked in their lot across the street. I walked in and found my friend. I started with the red sangria and it was tasty. Violet was our bartender and she was awesome. She showed us the area for private parties. It is a really nice place. For a small meal my friend got the garlic shrimp and it was really good. I have to leave this review because this was one of my top restaurant experiences. I want to make sure I talk about this place so that it stays open but another part of me wants it to stay so low-key and elegant. I just want to keep it to myself lol this is a small restaurant that one could easily look past in Elizabeth. When you walk in, you're immediately greeted with kindness. I'm not sure when the busiest days are but a couple of friends and I went on a Monday night and we had the entire place to ourselves besides the couple that were sitting at the bar. From the dining experience to the food quality, everything was 5-star. I don't think we lifted a finger for the usual things one may have to do at any other restaurant. The menu might surprise you like it did us because it's a bit on the expensive side, but after eating we had no regrets! There was literally not one thing we did not like. NOT ONE. The table was served a Latin take on bruschetta which I could not get enough of. The perfect amount of salt, fresh garlic, tomato and cilantro (ahh my mouth is watering as I type this). We followed that up with red sangria and crab cakes. The crab cakes were packed with red and green peppers which was unique compared to the typical crab cakes. The sangria was also nice and strong! Each meal also came with either a salad or soup, both again, delicious. The soup was a Spanish style white bean and kale --DELICIOUS and the salad was your basic salad, nice and fresh. Now for the main course, I had pork medallions with shrimp, yucca, and grilled peppers; stewed in a brown sauce. The table also had the braised need ribs and the steak, both served with mashed potatoes and veggies. Oh my gosh, I just wish you all could see how I'm licking my lips reliving it. The food was one of a kind. Not overly salted, seasoned perfectly to highlight the meats and sides, and a healthy but not overpowering portion. All of the meats were juicy and/or falling off the bone. I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant where the food was absolutely perfect. Wow. To top it off, the bartender gave us complimentary tequila shots. I promise, I'm not being dramatic, the BEST tequila shots I have ever had. We were in shock that it was actually tequila!!! Will I be back here? What do you think? OF COURSE. I honestly hope to become a regular with my own little table in the back. Welp... Where do I begin.... We had the grilled octopus for an appetizer, hardly any octopus on the plate, cut into little flakes! Dried out and tasteless. For 23.95!!! Met up with friends on a Friday night for pre-Valentines girls night out and to celebrate our friends' birthdays. There were a lot of Specials offered that night and most of us opted for the ribs and duck which were "excellent". We had the "blue" sangria, apparently it came in different colors- red, white and green. Music was just the right volume, conducive to conversation. Working in the area for half of my adult life, he has eaten just about everywhere so when he says a place is good then it is good. I was so excited to try it out. I called an order in for pick up, ordered a hamburger and fries. I figured if you can do a hamburger and fries you can do anything. I drove there and missed the parking, which is located entering a very tight driveway to the left of the building. So I had to loop around the block again, but finally made it. The entrance struck me as odd, having two entrances I wasn't sure at first which door to use. I go inside and the place is absolutely dead, although it was a random weekday I expected some patrons around lunchtime. The gentle behind the bar brings my hamburger and fries and the price is $12.95. I pay and leave only to get back to my office and be completely disappointed in the meal. How do you mess up a burger? It was a pre made burger patty and average bread, minimal toppings and a handful of frozen fries ( he crinkly kind you buy at any supermarket) and a small bit of lettuce, tomato and an avocado. It surely was not worth the price I paid, I was left hungry and annoyed. Maybe I went on an off day, I will give them another try but save yourself the disappointment and don't get the burger. read more

OMG!! delicious food!! we went there in search for something different in the neighborhood while visiting the hospital. Every dish was delicious, from the Caldo Gallego which was included in the meal..a very light but super flavorful soup. we ordered the octopus salad as appetizer and I couldn't believe how amazing it was. They husband had the grilled chicken with Spanish chorizo and veggies cooked to perfection!!! I ordered the salmon which was the best I've had in a while. We wanted to try something different in Elizabeth, which we have always have gone to always the same Colombian and Portuguese restaurants. We ordered from the numerous specials for the day. Octopus for appetizer, then we each ordered different entree to share. Each dish also comes with soup or salad. Which we had a fresh salad. Skirt steak, short ribs, chimichangas. I ordered steak tacos (carne asada) before the kitchen closed and was told that the place was still open. When I got there (10 min later) they were already cleaning after telling me they would be open for me to be able to eat there! I asked for onions and cilantro on my tacos and a side of cotija cheese and sour cream. I obviously took my tacos to go! Once I got home my tacos were PORK not steak..they had no onions or cilantro instead a bunch of guacamole (which I am not a personal fan of). I instantly called back and the owner/manager had the nerve to tell me that there is onions and cilantro in the guacamole and that they ran out of steak so they decided to give me pork. My date cannot eat pork for religious purposes...luckily I know the difference in meats so he did not take a bite. Did I mention I paid $36 freaking bucks for 6 tacos on TACO TUESDAYYY!!! The food at Tequilla Grill is delicious! It more like a mix of mexican and mediterranean. Although its a little more pricey than your typical mexican food, it well worth it! Im hard to impress with guacamole because Im good at making my own and I have to say they gave me a run for my money! I have never had a bad meal here!!!!! The server is always sooo nice and knowledgeable of the menu! There are always specials separate from the menu and I pretty much always get one of them!
