Great little Family style Greek Restaurant in Kenilworth. We grabbed a late lunch and shared a salad, an order of Spanakopita and the grilled Shrimp, Octopus and Calamari plate with lemon potatoes. The food portions were perfect for sharing. Also our server was great. We asked for extra red onions and dressing for the salad and she brought them quickly. In addition she gave us some extra tzatziki when she packed our leftover spanakopita. We enjoyed our grilled seafood platter so much that I missed taking a picture. Will have to do it next time. Our party of three split the Greek grilled calamari appetizer with capers, onions, and tomatoes, lightly seasoned, and the spanakopita so buttery and flaky. The entrees we ordered: the vegetarian moussaka, the lamb ("Bifteki") platter, and the chicken souvlaki platter. We were very happy and very satisfied. Portions are ample. Cute little place located on 20th St in Kenilworth just off the Boulevard. Went last night with my wife and the place was packed. We ordered a large Greek salad to split and it was very good. Plenty of feta and olives. Honestly we could have shared a small one and it would have been plenty. For mains my wife got the grilled salmon with side of broccoli and loved it. I got the lamb souvlaki which comes with lemon potatoes, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, tzatziki sauce and pita bread. Also very tasty. With your bill they bring a couple of powder sugar coated cookies that were delicious. It's a BYOB and the prices are very reasonable. We will be returning. read more

My wife and I stopped into Nostimo with wine in hand (BYOB!) for a weeknight dinner. The dining room was nicely arranged, clean, and had plenty of seating. We were surprised that the usual complimentary pita and olives of Greek restaurants was replaced with olives and slices of bread--Italian style. We ordered two traditional dishes: lamb souvlaki and moussaka. The lamb was cooked nicely and generously portioned, but lacked in the seasoning department. The moussaka was scrumptious! I slowed down eating to try and make it last as long as possible! We didn't venture into their dessert offerings, but our kind server brought us two complimentary Greek cookies. We came here on our first night in New Jersey. We sat outside and the weather was perfect. We ordered the chicken souvlaki platter and our food took a while so our waitress offered us free desserts. Kind of small and thus crowded but my Biftecki was the best I have ever had anywhere. I keep thinking about it and can't wait to go back for it again. My friend raved about his gyro platter. My husband and I went here tonight by picking it off Yelp. It was amazing. All of our food was delicious. We started with the spicy feta and hummus appetizers then we moved on my husband had lamb souvlaki and I had the grilled salmon. This was the best salmon I've had a a Greek restaurant ever it was perfectly cooked and the lemon potatoes were divine. I also got some broccoli as well. For dessert we got a custard cream cake and they gave us free cookies to finish. A nice touch was they were so busy (we didn't mind though) they gave us our dessert for free. There's a small parking lot ~ 10 cars, which fits with the restaurants capacity in general. It's really not very large inside ~ maybe 7 small tables that fit 3/4! We came on a Saturday ~ 6, and it was already 50% occupied. As we were leaving, things were picking up, so if you go ~ 7, you may be in for a bit of a wait, and they close at 8:30. If you plan to go later in the evening, it's probably best to make reservations. And the side of steamed broccoli was cooked perfectly with a lovely light seasoning. *** Beware - this is a bony fish, so you need to take care while eating. But it's worth the work :) - Paidakia (baby lamb chops) with lemon potatoes: Can you ever go wrong with lamb? Yes, absolutely you can, I've been there. But Nostimos lamb chops were divine! So much flavor, cooked to perfection, and perfectly portioned. I opted for a medium-well cook, but they will cook to your preference. The potatoes were interesting. I loved the tanginess from the lemon, but I was not a huge fan of the oregano flavor. However, that's just personal preference. For dessert, there are plenty of options (different cakes, cappuccino...), but we were stuffed to the brim so opted out. To our surprise, the waitress brought out: - 2 large Greek Butter Cookies: Absolute suggary goodness - the perfect end to a delicious meal! Aside from the lovely atmosphere and delicious food, the wait staff was phenomenal. The food here is very good. While we enjoyed everything we ordered, the highlights were the gyro platter and grilled keftedes. The meats had so much flavor and were cooked perfectly. We really enjoyed the tzatziki, melitzanosalata, hummus, saganaki, fried zucchini chips and spanakopita. The only appetizer we had we weren't impressed with were the grape leaves (dolmadakia). They needed some extra flavor (maybe lemon with mint or dill). The lamb souvalaki was very good, and we would get it again, but the gyro was the star entree. Good sized portions and very fair prices. I am glad we now have a decent Greek place to go to right in this town. We did a takeaway and the lady on the phone was so patient with me as I kept forgetting which dessert I wanted and I was having conundrum looking at the menu. Their Moussaka was delicious! Creamy and light for the top layer and hearty filling for the layers of ground meat and slices of eggplant and some potatoes. I added drops of hot sauce. The Chicken Gyro was huge. I'd definitely order extra tzatziki sauce with it. They also serve good Ekmek. One of my favorite desserts. I originally got to know Nostimo's when it was in Fanwood, NJ. The food was as good if not better now in Kenilworth, NJ. I ate there in early March of this year and the service was "OK". I equate this to growing pains and waiter/watiress training. The environment on a Sunday was good, noise was average. I've heard that Saturday evening may be busier and the noise level would increase, this is normal. I'm happy to learn they are doing well! read more

New business occupying a Fanwood landmark, formerly Sheelan's Fish Market, and before that, going back decades, The Chippery. They have a small dining area with table service, and takeout. Serving Mediterranean specialties, inc. hot and cold appetizers and dips, Greek salads, gyro and souvlaki sandwiches on pita, grilled meat and seafood entrées and traditional Greek dishes, and lots of desserts. I sampled the hummus, the stuffed grape leaves, the keftedes (Greek meatballs) and the moussaka, also the gyro sandwich, and three desserts, the orange cake, galaktoboureko, and baklava. The homemade grape leaves were excellent, light, and fragrant with dill and mint. The hummus was good, could use a little more garlic. The keftedes were overcooked and dried out, would not get again. The moussaka was a large portion, with great flavor, but was soupy. Possibly microwaved for takeout, probably better if you eat it there. The gyros are a real draw here, a large, filling sandwich for $11.00. I've had three so far. Get extra tzatziki sauce ($1.50). The array of pastries and desserts is super-tempting, and the ones I tried were all delicious. The portions are big enough to share. The baklava is amazing, not too sweet. Four stars for the food, and a bonus star for coming to a neighborhood where we don't have enough restaurants. read more

A welcome addition to the neighborhood, don't be fooled by this tiny location, they can really dish out the eats! I ordered takeout a few days after opening, and was happy to see a busy restaurant upon arrival. Even with the place being packed (of that word can apply to a restaurant with only a few tables), the food still came out on time and well packaged. My wife and I both had the pastitsio and Greek salad. We were very happy with the portions, we could have easily split each. The pastitsio was flavorful, though could have a bit too many spices for some tastes. The Greek salad had a generous portion of cheese, which made me a happy camper! Definitely worth repeat visits, but probably best to keep this as a takeout option unless you like playing roulette with your chances to find a table. read more

Small place, easy to drive past it and miss it, as I have several times, but yesterday we made an effort to get there in the pouring rain and it was great. Small and cozy inside, friendly staff and delicious food, what more do you need? On my third visit to this restaurant (first to the new location), I was pleased to encounter some fine dishes. Previously a friend described her Greek Salad as THE BEST SALAD SHE HAD EVER HAD. I had a lamb entree that met my high expectations. Second visit, another lamb entree where the meat melted in my mouth. This time I decide to try the specials. The beet salad was wonderful. Obviously not canned beets. The dressing was tangy and the feta cheese was the size of a snowball. Which brings me to an important point: the portions are more than ample, no matter what you order. For a birthday dessert they brought me a huge piece of Greek Yogurt cake that was so light it almost floated off the plate. Large enough to divide in three. Notorious to my first disappointment, the Brazzini fish fillet had bones and was overcooked. read more

before they relocated to this new location it was an Italian restaurant called casa di Pietro ...excellent food and ambience. we also dined at Nostimos prior to their relocation. the food is excellently prepared and portions too large for us. their servers are attentive and helpful. the issue is the noise level. on saturday night dining was a very uncomfortable experience.too many tables stacked to close to each other. no sound absorbing materials on ceiling or walls. it's as though we were being attacked by the conversations. I didn't need to know all the details of the first date couple each divorced and with a daughter etc, but it was inevitable due to proximity. It's unfortunate that this was our experience. maybe it would be better on a different night but I'm not sure we'd be willing to take a chance on returning. read more

We discovered Nostimo's recently and am so pleased that we did! We went there for our 50th wedding anniversary for dinner and had a wonderful meal and great experience. Indoors, it's a quiet area with small tablecloth covers, clean and neatly arranged. We chose indoors because it was humid out. Now, about the menu choice, of which there are many: My husband had the Lamb Souvlaki platter with marinated lamb medallions, pita bread & tzatziki, lettuce, tomato, onion & lemon roasted potatoes. He said it was excellent and filling. I had the Branzini fish fillet with lemon roasted potatoes. No bones! I was given a choice of the whole fish or a fillet. It was D E L I C I O U S ! The owner & his staff provided answers to our questions about the menu offerings and were attentive, making sure that our water glasses stayed full! We had chocolate baklava for dessert, complements of the restaurant since this was a very special occasion for us. Presented with the check came 2 yummy cookies covered in powder! this place was very good! me and my sister tried a bunch of things. pita and tzatziki- very good! my fav. so creamy. love this! fried zucchini- love this too! crispy the way they are supposed to be. flavorful. the pink stuff at the bottom was weird to me lol but wasn't bad. lemon potatoes- pretty good. nice and soft. warm and juicy. forgot the name of this but it was some flat cheese thing. burned cheese crust. it was ok. i prefer my fried cheese to have bread crumbs but it wasn't bad. loved the bread and olives in the beginning too. they also give you these free powdered sugar almond cookies at the end. those were so good! whole meal was very nice. i would return. read more

Food has been great both times we have been there. but, the best experience was when we locked the keys in the car, along with the phone, so couldn't even remember any numbers to call! Excellent, authentic Greek food. I grew up in Astoria and as an adult my favorite places are Greek restaurants in Astoria so I'm critical of Greek food in NJ. As soon as we walked in the smell reminded me of a Greek home. Definitely will go back to try the mousakka since I've had it in Greece. Grilled Octopus was fresh and tasty. This place is fabulous! If you struggle to find the menu, the restaurant will send you a picture of the daily specials and menu which I thought was the coolest thing ever! The food is absolutely fantastic and so fresh it was truly a guilt free meal! Branzino was cooked and seasoned perfectly! Lemon potatoes were delicious and not overly seasoned like some other places. They were truly perfect!! We also had a smattering of all the desserts and they were all exquisite! I cant believe I didn't give this place a try sooner! I've really been missing out!
