Food is always very good when I come here. There corn chips are always warm when they are brought to the table which I really like. Ordering a la carte is a better way to go like stated in a previous review. To begin, I tried to order a margarita when asked what drink I'd like. I couldn't get a reply when I asked what brands of tequila they had. I finally decided a small one wouldn't be bad, whatever they had. It might have been decent if there had been any discernible tequila in it. Ordered the poblano pepper stuffed with shrimp. What came was barely recognizable. There was green and some breading, but falling apart slimy, under a ton of cheese sauce. The refried beans were watered down and the side of vegetables was frozen broccoli, cauliflower and carrots, hardly Mexican veggies. A side of pico on lettuce would have been better. It took quite a long while for anyone to come back and greet us, take our drink order, get our drinks and take our order. The waiter seemed irritated for some reason to have to take our order. My street tacos came with frozen tomatoes, cilantro and onion, which were not tasty at all. My husband asked for a refill on his ice tea, but never got it. My grandson's chicken nuggets and fries were fine as was my husbands steak fajita. I don't plan on going back as our waiter was impatient, unfriendly, slow, and made us feel unwelcome from the beginning. The food is so gross I couldn't even eat it. And the price is ridiculous because you're paying for garbage. The breading was so thick,and hardly anything on the inside of the tamales the tacos were soggy instead of a being crunchy. The burritos were only made with hamburger. This place is horrible! We've been here several times and every time it's been bad. This time we went was was the absolute worst as I got food poisoning this time. I should've know to get up and leave when our salsa and cheese bowls came out dIrtysh. and my husbands food wasn't even the right order and they kept trying to give it to him. We won't be back!!!! Disclaimer: I'm from California; currently living in LA so if I want Mexican food back at home I have to decide what kind? From what region, etc. This place in Sparta would not survive in LA. This place has really gone downhill. Floors are always sticky, and my menu was covered in dried salsa. I ordered the enchilada suprema today and not one of the enchiladas were good. The chicken was unbelievably bland as well as the ground beef. They somehow tasted wet and cold. The waiter did refill our soda but was nonexistent after we got our food. Ordered extra cheese on our arroz con pollo because there is barely ever any cheese and was still given the same out of cheese. There was parts of a tomato in my food (it does not come with tomatoes) and our salsa tasted like tomato juice. Highly do not recommend, have never had a good experience. This was the only place that we could find open on July 4th. The service was slow. We did not have an ice in our margarita's. I asked for no salt, it had salt. We had to constantly ask for our water glasses to be filled. We only got one bottle of salsa for three people. Again, did I say this was THE ONLY place that we could find open. read more

I only gave one star because it made me. This is the absolute worst attempt at Mexican that I have ever eaten. I ordered the Monster Chimichanga because ground beef isn't acceptable. It was barely deep fried and the steak tasted old. The vegetables were on their way out as well. The tomato that garnished the dish still had a large black rotten blemish that they didn't even bother to remove. When I opened the container of guacamole it was very brown. After digging past the top layer all to be found was mashed avocado, no lime or lemon; hell, not even salt. The city's health department should really take a good look at their kitchen. Ate at this restaurant on a Monday night. Didn't seem to be too many people in the restaurant yet took a considerable time to get seated and order taken. Brought chips to table, they were cold and hard. I had a bag in my car I'd gotten at Walmart, I really wanted to go get them to have with salsa. I've been driving all day and was hungry and I don't like to waste food, so that was my only motivation to finish my plate. The taco was lettuce and a bit of unseasoned meat. It was the blandest taco I have ever put in my mouth. I had a combination platter with one taco one enchilada and one burrito with rice and refried beans. The refried beans were simply unrecognizable as refried beans. They were soupy, as if they've added liquid to stretch out the batch. The enchilada was dry and had obviously just been microwaved as the bottom and the cheese were stuck to the plate. None of it had any flavor. I had to add some salt just for a bit of flavor. Ask the server for some hot sauce and he brought a dish of thin soupy read something oh, the same thing that was served with the tortilla chips. There's a Mexican restaurant without even a bottle of Tabasco or aTapatio or Cholula. It's sad that Sparta finally gets some ethnic cuisine and they have compromised the meals to match the palate of Illinois rather than offering Illinois a taste of authentic Mexican food. read more

Really good food, excellent margaritas. I really like the salsa and pico de galo here too, not hot like some have. I recommend the tequila fajitas, but you really get a lot of food. Crappy service!! Got in there and waited for about 10 minutes before we were ever seated. Was seated and waited for another 15 minutes before our order was taken. Watched 2 or 3 other people that walked in after us get their food which ticked me off! By the time our waitress brought our food out my husband said just forget it my wife has to get back to work!!! They've upped their game over the years it's been open. When I first tried it I thought it was disgusting. Decided to give it another shot because I love mexican food and it was close to where I was living.. and oh man! It was delicious! My husband and I loved it. This place sucks! Went there on Memorial Day, 2015. Yes it was a holiday, but should that matter? Service was terrible. We ordered the white cheese sauce that was brought out right away with our chips and salsa and drinks the cheese dip was lukewarm at best. So when the waiter finally came back around we asked for it to be warmed up for us. He brought it back a few minutes later....exactly the same temperature it was that we had the first time. We had also asked for more chips and salsa....which never came. So I got up and went back to the kitchen with the white cheese sauce and asked again for it to be warmed up...with more chips and salsa. Again, the cheese dip came to us the exact same way it was. Seems like someone did not do their job that day with the cheese dip. When we got our entrees, they were mediocre at best...and the food wasn't even hot. We will definitely NOT be back. read more
