We went to Tequilas D'Oro for 5 de Mayo and we loved it! We got there before 6pm and there was a big line however they had outdoor seating for a Tacos only menu with no line at all. I was looking for a late night Spanish food spot and stumbled upon Tequilas D Oro , once entering the ambiance is loud and very hectic. Almost that of a club, the servers were pleasant and quick , which I do appreciate. The food needs a big improvement , What I ordered Queso : which came out thick like a barely melted block of cheese. Enchilada trio : verde , plain chicken and queso The star of the show was the verde , it was seasoned to perfection with a little kick of spice. The other two were quite bland to me. After a day of volunteering, my friend and I was famished. Using the power of Yelp, Tequilas D Oro was our choice. And what a great choice it was. The interior is spacious, fun and modern. Yummy!!!! We had everything from nachos to churros and everything was scrumptious. I can honestly say I have never had a coconut margarita but it was tasty. (Think pina coladaish) The nachos were cheesy and on point. The Alambre Mediterraneo was spectacular and my chicken poblano was super delicious. I'll admit upfront--I'm tough on Mexican restaurants. I've spent a lot of time in Mexico and eaten well outside the typical U.S. version, so my expectations are probably a little unfair. Started with the peach margarita. I mean... look at it. Absolute showstopper--salted rim, fruit garnish, umbrella, the whole production. But taste-wise? It's a 3 out of 5. Not bad, just missing that punch you expect when it looks that good. Chips came out warm, lightly salted, and honestly--really solid. That's how you start a meal right. The salsa though... wasn't really salsa at all. More like a pleasant surprise that turned into a disappointment on flavor. It tasted like spiced bean water--thin, warm, and just never quite delivered. Not offensive, just nothing to grab onto. Then came the "slopchos." And I'll give credit--these are actually delicious. Great toppings, good flavor, you can see the effort. But here's the issue--nachos are supposed to be eaten with chips, not a fork. The second I need utensils, we've lost the plot. There's a full layer of beans underneath that turns the whole thing into a race against time. Five minutes in and you're not eating nachos anymore--you're managing them. Eat fast or accept your fate. I'll always order a classic crunchy ground beef taco, because sometimes you just want that full-on American version--hard shell, ground beef, lettuce, tomato, cheese. Boom. This delivered exactly what it's supposed to. Cheese enchilada was... fine. Nothing offensive, nothing memorable. It leaned a little too close to that mild, almost Taco Bell-style sauce. Cheese was okay, just didn't elevate anything. Service, though, was a bright spot. Bartender was attentive, brought water with the oversized margarita (smart move), and people kept checking in. This was at 4:30--not exactly peak hours--so that stood out. Overall, this place wins on presentation but plays it safe on flavor. There are definitely things worth ordering, but if you're chasing bold, authentic Mexican flavors, you might leave wanting more. If you go in expecting solid, American-style Mexican food with a few highlights, you'll be happy. Just don't let the visuals fool you into expecting more than what shows up on the plate. read more

Joined some friends here for lunch and had a great meal. The food is so fresh. They have a salsa bar and they make the guacamole fresh at the table. I had the American tacos and they were delicious as was the rice and beans. I especially liked the rice. We finished with the churros which were like donuts and were the best churros I have ever had. I decided to try this Mexican restaurants since I've never been before. When I arrive I really like the way it looked outside the building was really nice and the sign was cute also. Inside was decorated nice they have a large bar. The server was very nice and friendly. When they brought out the chips with the bean dip and nose pasta I was a little bit surprised but then I was quickly told that they have a whole station with different salsas and I was so excited about that. Last minute girls night out on a weekday! We needed a place to go and I wanted a good drink. Yelp brought up this place and we decided to check it out. The building is big and beautiful both inside and out. Its kind of hidden but once you know its there you will never forget! The food and drinks were amazing and I can't wait to go back for another visit! We order the margaritas flight but instead of frozen we asked for it to be on the rocks. When you order it this way, you dont get as many flavors though. We also ordered two additional small margaritas that didn't come to the table looking very small. The drinks were made with fresh fruit so they will have pulp in it but we all enjoyed the drinks. There was a live band playing in the restaurant for the night. They came to the table and sang whatever "mood" of song you wanted. They did a great job so we gave a tip. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful when asked for recommendations. Everyone was quick to assist and friendly. The food and drinks came out quick as well. We ordered shrimp enchiladas, the breaded fish tacos and the shrimp tacos. I loved the breaded fish tacos. The corn and the beans that came on the side had lots of flavor which was really unusual for me. I'm use to most places having bland sides that only taste good when accompanied by the entree. The rice and the beans were so good they could have been served alone and I would have eaten them by themselves! There were three fish tacos and I was almost full after the first one but after drinking more tequila I knew I needed to at least finish one more. I really am glad to jump on the bandwagon here and say that this place is AWESOME! From the moment I stepped through the door everyone was super welcoming and extremely pleasant. We were initially seated next to a large group but I decided to ask about the bar and I'm so glad that I did. Once at the bar I was greeted by not one but two awesome bartenders who made me feel like I had the entire restaurant to myself haha. Extremely enjoyable. Now I will say their menu is HUGE!!! So if you happen to struggle with deciding what to order like I do then get something off of every other page! Lol I had the pleasure of having Omar be my main bartender and waiter for the afternoon and he was fantastic. He suggested drinks to try and they were spot on. The menu is very large and they have a little bit for everyone. The prices are good for the amount of food received. The quality is phenomenal and with every bit you can taste fresh ingredients. I came here for a quick lunch. The servers attentive and quick. Although I did ask for a side of pico for my entree and it never came. The chips and salsa were delivered immediately upon sitting down, but unfortunately it is not a typical salsa. It was more akin to tahini. I didn't find it complemented Mexican food. The tacos were fine. Rather light on the filling and rather dry. It is a big restaurant and the prices reflect high overhead. Garcia was our server and an absolute delight, friendly, effective, knowledgeable. The portions are more than generous, every one of our party of four took home for lunch. Tacos are good quality but lack a bit of flavor; veggie chimichanga was good with big portion size (only able to eat half). Drinks are delicious especially for the price. They have a cart for guacamole that they will make in front of you, however we opted out on that as my husband is not a fan. They brought out complimentary chips, not with salsa as you'd expect but with a smooth, blended bean dip. I got some salsa from their salsa bar, which was nice! We ordered the following: Birria Tacos - it came with beans, rice, and of course the consommé. Great flavor but it would be better if the tortillas were crispier. The chips are served with a bean dip because they have a salsa bar with multiple options to choose from. A word of caution - if you don't specify the size of margarita you want, you will receive a "medium" which is big! I placed my water glass next to it for comparison. I love guava so I was excited to have a guava margarita, but I have to admit it wasn't what I was expecting. I realized that is because I'm used to sweetened guava paste whereas this was made with fresh guava including seeds. It was tasty & I finished it but I'll try another flavor next time. And it will be hard to choose from the extensive list of margaritas they offer! We ordered two orders of guacamole which is prepared table-side. I love avocado but unfortunately have an allergic reaction to it thanks to oral allergy syndrome. I did enjoy just one bite & it was very good. The Salsa bar is primo, offering everything from mild to spicy, smooth to chunky, and even some sliced peppers! Let's start off with the mandartory starters.. queso and guacamole. Any time the place has tableside guacamole they start the meal on a positive note. The fact that they were willing to modify the guacamole to meet our tastes was even better. The queso was a good sized portion and paired well with bottomless chips. For the mail dish, I had their birria tacos and let me say, if I could get my pot roast to turn out as tender as the meat on these tacos, family dinner night would be far more popular. One of my new favorite Mexican places! WOW! Evrerything was great. We went on a Tuesday night (Taco Tuesday of course, but no tacos for us that night). We were treated so well. What we loved: * Table side guacamole about 2 in minutes after we arrived. Perfect! Very traditional and just right. * Service - everyone was so nice. Not only our waiter checked on us but other staff members stopped by to make sure we had everything we needed. * I had the Burrito de Birria. I'm picky about birria. This was no disappointment. The meat was extremely tender and the flavor was great. And the size - it was probably 14" in length. * My friend had the Guanajuato burrito. It was full of steak and enough to share if you wanted to try. * Atmosphere - they had a Mexican singer while we were there and he had a great voice. They have plenty of seating inside and outside. We can't wait until the weather is nice enough to sit outside. * Salsa bar - you get a salsa with your chips, but there is an awesome salsa bar with at least six different types. What we hated: * We could not try more dishes! We were so full and took home half of our dishes for lunch the next day. Always on the hunt for good margs and fajitas, we checked it out last night. We were not disappointed! The atmosphere is fancy casual - welcoming to families and groups but nice enough for a date night too. Now about dinner: fajitas for 2 is feeding us again for lunch!! And the salsa bar offers seven different flavors to try (bigger bowls would be nice since the chips don't fit into the 2oz cups). Overall, wow! And the drinks?? WOW!! The medium house marg is HUGE, and really tasty (and strong). My husband preferred mine on the rocks to his frozen, and they offer so many flavors too! Our server, Joshua, was top-notch! Went here for a date night with my wife and overall had a great time. I ordered the classic chicken tacos -- they were good, not amazing, but to be fair I didn't realize they had a salsa bar. Drinks were another highlight. We tried the coconut, pineapple, cucumber margaritas, a mango mojito, and even an old fashioned. All of them were tasty and unique. Our waitress was Ms. Norma and she was absolutely wonderful. For starters, she asked if we wanted a small or medium sized margarita. We opted for medium. It was def not a medium, more like an XTRA GRANDE! Now don't get me wrong, it's far from a complaint. Not only was the large-a-rita, I mean margarita, massive but it was strong. Again, no complaints from me at all! I got the Steak Pueblo cooked medium with the queso in the side. It was really good! Especially when I used the one of the many salsas from the salsa bar. Ashamed to say I didnt know this restuarant had been in the area for so long, I thought it was new! We visited on a weeknight so we were seated immediately. I would say the service is decent, not outstanding so thats the reason for the 4 stars. The food however is very good! They serve conpmimentary chips that come with salsa and a refried bean sauce. I tried the Chipotle shrimp and it was fantastic! I really enjoy that they have the more than the standard typical Mexican restaurant food. Their margaritas are huge as well! I cant say they are the best margarita I have had but the price point and size i think makes up for it. Once seated our server brought out complimentary chips and a bean puree. I am wasn't a fan of the puree. Our server stated that they had a salsa bar inside that we could help ourselves too. It's located in Tinseltown. We parked and were greeted when we entered. We looekd over the menu and opted to get some tableside guac. It was made to our liking (no jalapenos, no cilantro). It tasted very fresh. We were also given complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa wasn't really a salsa, but more of a bean dip. It tasted good. The menu is huge. I opted to get beef chimichangas. My husband got a few tacos, and my kiddo got the kids mozzarella sticks. Everything came out pretty quickly. I really enjoyed my chimichangas. They were covered in queso. The Jacksonville area has some great Mexican restaurants. There are two in particular that I frequent often, but Tequilas D Oro, just made my decision harder. Amazing food, fantastic service, beautiful decor and a salsa bar that really sets this place apart from others. The place is huge. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. The interior has both elegant and casual sections, areas that are open and others where you could hold a private event if needed. The menu is expansive and while I didn't get to try everything, I can tell you all that my wife and i ordered was delicious. The chips are made in house and really tasty. The salsa bar is arranged from mild to spicy and you go right to left and I can tell you first hand, spicy means spicy. The bean dip was a first for me and really nice with the chips as well. So many great salsas to sample. Really a great idea. My wife ordered a couple of margaritas and i had a taste. Very nice, light, and her Medium was actually large. I had the dinner quesadilla and it was truly elevated along with my beans, rice and all the sides. One of the best quesadillas I've had. A special shout out to our waitress Mar who was just a delight, was attentive and took great pride in her work and the restaurant as well. It was as if she was the owner.
