I chose Terra Mia because I wanted to take my wife somewhere nice for Valentine's Day dinner. I even asked , when I made the reservation, if this is someplace that my wife would enjoy and was told yes. Indeed it was. The ambience made it feel like we were in Italy . Reminded us of our trip to Tuscany last September. We met Chef Rita, a very pleasant and friendly person. She's a very talented chef as the Valentine's Day menu was exceptionally delicious. Eating there after seeing the lights is a must, but be prepared to wait as it's a popular place to eat. We waited over an hour to get in but it was well worth it. During this busy time of the year the menu was limited but everything on was fantastic. Looked at the posted pictures as that says it all. This time we went and ate dinner inside, so felt an update was necessary. I'd give it 3.5 stars - the food and service were good, but it was heavy handed on the sauce. The rigatoni was the better of the 2 pasta dishes, as it had more variety of flavor. My kids liked their spaghetti but didn't eat the meatball after trying a bite (kids...who knows why). We have never eaten at a restaurant that had so many rules, no refills on your soft drinks, tea or water. They will only split the bill in 1/2 the table next to us was told they will all need to pay together and they figure it out later. Waitress was not friendly. We order pizza , it was not good either. When my dish finally arrived my husband had already eaten his spaghetti (which was a small portion by the way) both the spaghetti and pizza had a bit too much garlic for my taste. Worst meal I've had in years along with sorry a*s service. Had the swordfish steak that was cut through the thickness to about 1/4" and grilled about twice as long as necessary. It was laid on a plate of pesto that overpowered it by a mile. It was just awful. The ponytailed waiter was completely inattentive. Brought bread, no flatware or napkins. When we asked for them he brought and dropped on the other side of the table in a pile. Food was delivered and he completely ignored us until time to bring the check. The chef needs to taste the food and this waiter needs training. The female waitstaff were excellent to the tables near us. Ugh. $60 for crap. read more

I have read the nixed reviews and I am puzzled by the inconsistency. I will describe my recent experience which in my opinion was stellar. I belong to a group Called Italiani in Charlotte, yesterday the group organized a Friendsgiving buffet luncheon here at Terra Mia. I have dietary restrictions and most of what as on the buffet I would not have had. I called the restaurant prior to the event explained my situation and they were most cooperative, allowing me to order from the menu. The event was a huge success close to 50 attendees mostly native Italians. The buffet had several choices which my wife said were delicious, the wait staff was professional attentive and very friendly. I ordered linguine and clams , it was perfectly prepared some of the best I've had. for 2 1/2 hours the group was pampered with great food, excellent service and organizational expertise. The staff is attentive but be ready to wait a long time for your table... I guess it's a sign of value by locals. We ordered some appetizers (fried calamari, bruschetta, and mozzarella sticks for the kids) and the were all delicious, although focused for the American palate. We also ordered pizzas which were delicious. The crust had some give to it which indicates freshness. It did not have the typical air bubbles from Neapolitan pizza but they don't claim it to be. Staff organization needs improvement and food was about 4/5. The check-in process did not go smoothly. I made online reservations about 3 weeks in advance and the front staff didn't see my name on a reservation. I did get an email to show that my reservation was received but apparently the email said "Your reservation will be confirmed shortly". I never did receive another confirmation email, but there was a link in the email that read the registeration status was confirmed. The staff ended up giving us a table So we were still able to have dinner there. We waited a while for someone to give us menus and take our drink orders. The menu is available on the website, but it was too small and blurry to read. We didn't get a drink menu so we just looked at the drink menu online- thankfully, that was clear to read. We started off with complimentary warm bread with pesto, which was good. We tried a small Terra Mia salad, which was a decent small size for two people to share. The salad didn't look like much, but the fresh mozzarella slices and the housemade dressing made up for it. The dressing was almost, but not quite like a thousand island dressing. For the main entrees, I tried the Orto dish and my partner tried the Amatriciana with added meatballs. The Orto dish was served on this nice grandma style square platter, even with a ding in the corner to make it more authentic. The Orto dish temperature was uneven-part of the dish was very hot and other parts were lukewarm. Not sure if they just microwaved this dish? I did really like the sauce, it was savory and had a good balance between salty and sweet. It was hard not to lick the sauce from the dish. Some of the vegetables were not sliced or separated well. Sooo I'm glad they were cleaning the tables after the customers left. But, the cleaner they used was so chemically strong, it really took away my appetite while eating my main dish. Especially since the tables are relatively close to each other, there was no getting away from that smell. Some of the other tables next to us ordered pizza and it looked really good. So if we ever ate here again, I would want to try the pizza next time. We ate here during Christmas week. We arrived right before 5:00 p.m. before the chaos started, the Christmas lights traffic. This place is wonderful!! Definitely stop in here for a dinner as soon as you can! We came here for dinner on a super busy night given all of the traffic for the Christmas lights. The staff handled everything with such grace and wonder. They seated us within 15 minutes even with how busy they were and the efficiency is not because they rush you either to finish your meal. We enjoyed a nice long dinner, they just have this down to a science. Everyone we met on staff was so kind and extremely helpful. We started the dinner with fresh, warm, amazing bread and a recommended glass of wine that I wish I remember the name of. We ordered our entrees from our attentive waiter. I got the gnocchi and my husband got the penne alfredo. Both were absolutely delightful and we just about licked our plates clean. We finished our meal with a chocolate cannoli and some amaretto. It was the perfect way to end our wonderful evening with their staff. The atmosphere was great too! We felt right at home and can't wait to go back. Our waiter was so incredible that he took the time to help us work on the details of our trip to Italy this summer. We left with full bellies, a list of Italian towns to visit, and happy hearts. Worst Valentine's Day Dinner EVER! I'll lead by adding that we wrote FIRST to the Terra Mia Email address and gave them a full week to respond and make things right before posting this review. We have not received ANY response or acknowledgement. My family's Valentine's Day dinner at Terra Mia was an absolute disaster. We had a 5pm reservation and arrived a few minutes early, excited for a special occasion. What followed was a two-hour ordeal of neglect, incompetence, and ultimately, no food. We were seated promptly enough, but that's where the positive experience ended. Our server seemed utterly clueless, unable to answer basic questions about the specials and even getting my steak order completely wrong. We ordered two calamari appetizers, and only one arrived, overcooked and clearly having sat under a heat lamp for far too long. The second calamari order never materialized, and our server seemed to have vanished into thin air. The wait for our entrees was excruciating. We watched as other tables, seated after us, received their meals, ate, and even left. Meanwhile, we sat with empty drinks, dirty dishes piling up, and growing hunger. Our server was nowhere to be found, and when we finally managed to flag her down, we were met with repeated, empty promises of "five more minutes." This became a cruel joke as the minutes ticked by and our stomachs rumbled. We had specifically mentioned wanting to be finished by 7pm, a reasonable two-hour window, but that request was completely disregarded. After an hour and a half of waiting, with no food in sight, we finally escalated the situation to the manager. His response was dismissive and unapologetic, blaming the "busy" night. He offered no solutions, no apologies, and no attempt to rectify the situation. It became painfully clear that our entrees hadn't even been started yet, two hours after our reservation time. At that point, with our 7pm deadline long past and our hunger reaching unbearable levels, we had no choice but to leave. We walked out of the restaurant, hungry, frustrated, and completely disgusted. Our Valentine's Day dinner ended with grilled cheese sandwiches at home. This was a complete embarrassment, especially for my father, who had raved about Terra Mia. The restaurant ruined our special night, and their complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service is appalling. I would strongly advise anyone considering dining here to think twice. This was, without a doubt, the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. read more

For starters the prices are way too high! Why are prices this high in a tiny town like Mcadenville? It's not Miami or New York, so it confuses me when they think it's ok to charge those prices. They could do a better job with the bread they serve, it's just bread. My pasta carbonara had good flavor, but pasta carbonara should be creamy not saucy. It was drowning it sauce almost like a soup. The Chicken Piccata was good and was cooked perfectly. The desserts are lacking, the Panna Cotta was bland and just meh, and the Limoncello Cake was not good. My husband and I went to Terra Mia last night for our 41st Wedding Anniversary and we very deliciously surprised. The food was amazing. We had the mussels which were in a red sauce and so good. For dinner I had the special blackened Lobster over Risotto with mushrooms amazing and my husband had the chicken Piccata which is his favorite and he is very picky and he loved it. We just moved to McAdenville and excited to try Terra Mia. The food was Outstanding!!!!! We have lived in Charlotte, Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta and Jacksonville. We were very pleasantly surprised at how delicious our meals were. We also ordered pizza tonight and it was also excellent! The only thing that we found odd was the older gentleman that seated us was not friendly, in fact he seemed almost annoyed? That was uncomfortable & strange, but otherwise our experience was good! They also had live music which was lovely!!! We will definitely be back and it is our goal to make that gentleman smile!! read more

Ran across this little spot whilst waiting in McAdenville Christmas Lights traffic. The atmosphere was nostalgic and reflected the small local town well. I will be frank and say that it's not nearly as posh as the photos on the site make it out to be. However, this is the perfect spot for a shared pizza and don't forget to split a bottle of wine with friends. Breadsticks were honestly not great. The site says the dough is made fresh in house...these were hard and dense. I couldn't chew it and avoided them the rest of dinner. (0/10) Pizza was great and simple with full flavor. I call them sausage tots because of how they're shaped but I loved it! (7/10) Penne had a very strong Smokey meat flavor from what I assume is a type of ham in the dish--it's unique and creamy. Pleasantly surprised by this Italian eatery...excellent service, delicious food, and staff and atmosphere were kid-friendly. We brought our three kiddos in for lunch while traveling through...the pasta was delicious (we had vodka sauce with penne and the olive oil broccoli pasta) they accommodated the kids by splitting a lunch portion of plain spaghetti between two bowls (they also have several offerings on the kids menu)...the bread and dipping oil was also excellent. We even had espresso shots and the kids had hot chocolate. Everyone left full and happy! Our server, Laura, was attentive and very friendly. Food was good, restaurant is a cool place, service was not good. The server did not offer to refill drinks for a long time after empty. The server also dropped off the check without asking, right as we were about to order another round of drinks, very very odd behavior. They were out of the first 2 drinks that me and girlfriend ordered, basic beer and wines that were on the menu, and the wine that my girlfriend ordered came out flat. On top of that, the ac unit was dripping on our table during dinner which kept splashing us which was kind of annoying. All in all if they get new servers and better with inventory, it would be a 4-4.5 star place. Would I come back? Hmmm...probably not, unless it was to get their baked ziti to go. The food was delicious! Chicken parm was cooked perfectly with a thin cutlet. Angel hair was excellent. The ravioli was very good. We couldn't get enough of the focaccia. Pizza was the best I've had in a long time and I'm from NY, definitely NY style. The topping on the bruschetta was delicious but the break was a little hard for me. My daughter enjoyed the fresh mozzarella sticks too. Service was very good as well. Looking forward to going again. read more
