    Grilled quail
    Calvin S.

+.5 for service This was our final meal in Newfoundland after a 7 day trip across the entire province, saving the best for last. Obviously this place has won awards, including the best new hotel restaurant in 2021 by Air Canada. I was able to reserve a table for 3 a couple days before, which was good because the restaurant was completely full when we arrived around 8:30pm. The ambiance is upscale here. I had oysters, tuna tartare, smoked mussels, clams with snow peas, and grilled quail. All were overall very good, the smoked mussels were unique in that it doesn't come with the shells at all. The snow peas surprised me in how big they are. The oysters were the highlight though, a dozen for $48 and they were huge in size. The grilled quail was certainly unique, not for the faint of heart if you don't like gamey meat. I liked it, though I would've liked a bit more meat than what we got. Note the menu here changes frequently. I can tell because when I was writing this review I noticed the menu was different from what I had. Service was excellent here. Certainly pricey, and it's arguable whether I believe the value was worth it or not. I'd say if you stick with the seafood options it's hard to go wrong here.

Terre is the type of place people should write home about. Yes it's attached to a hotel, but it is NOT a hotel restaurant (in the best way possible) the menu is not only top tier, but priced better than most delivery options. I had the pleasure of not only ordering but observing the craft of true cocktail excellence! If you're staying anywhere close to the Alt hotel, you must try terre! This is dining as it was meant to be !

    Chantrelle Toast with Poached Egg

Not sure why restaurants located inside hotels get mixed reactions from people. We are staying at the Alt Hotel St. John's and even before the visit, Terre kept coming up as recommendations as a must try restaurants in the area - so it was incredibly convenient as well. Went for brunch today and it was incredible. We tried the Chantrelle Toast with poached egg and the Challah Perdu and both were amazing. The mushrooms were in season and so fresh. We even came away with great recommendation for dinner from our server. She didn't hesitate for a second to recommend where to go for best lobster roll or avoid tourist trap restaurant and try another place etc. for sure this will be on our list of places on every trip here.

Top notch service here!…read more Charissa made me feel at home at the bar. I got fresh tasty oysters, the code tongues, and fries. The oysters were small but so refreshing. The cod tongues are a unique item in just had to try and they tasted really good. The fries came out hot but I would say they lacked the crunch I really enjoy.. I still found myself eating them all though. The fry sauces were great, I think all made in house. What I really loved was the homemade peri peri sauce with the oysters... I put it on my cod and fries.. game changer!!! The place is beautifully designed, small and quant, and a good place to hang out. The rotating drink special was a frozen Paloma which was nicely garnished and had a natural wheat straw. The chef gave me a nice little gift at the end of my meal which I appreciated greatly.

Luckily we made our way to Rabble, and they seated us at the bar immediately upon arrival. We were very happy to find that they were open late. I thought the decor and aesthetic was nice, cozy, and clean. I loved the dishware and houndstooth napkins. First, I got their blended Passionfruit Guava (?) mocktail. I'm pretty sure those were the flavors. It was citrus-y, sweet, and refreshing. We ended up ordering the Half Chicken, Brown Butter Turnip Papperdelle, and the Seasonal Parisian Gnocchi for 2. Everything was absolutely wonderful. The Half Chicken was flavorful and the juicy. And the skin was the best part! It had a beautiful crisp. The Brown Butter Turnip Papperdelle was nice, I was very impressed with how they made it "noodle" like. The texture was good, and I loved how it was under a mountain of parmigiano hehe. Lastly, the Seasonal Parisian Gnocchi was a hit. The gnocchi had the perfect texture, it was chewy and soaked up the sauce very well. And the sauce! It was creamy, savory, and just fantastic. I've actually been raving about this gnocchi to everyone, and it has stayed on my mind ever since we ate it. I think that was the best gnocchi I've ever tasted. The only reason why I gave it four stars was the wait time. We came a good 30ish minutes before the kitchen closed and I'm pretty sure we put in our orders with enough time. However we waited a lot longer than we anticipated. Nevertheless, we had a wonderful time. We actually visited St John's for our anniversary and celebrated it here for dinner, and this was a dinner and day we'll never forget. We'd love to come back for another anniversary, and I hope that the gnocchi will still be there haha. Thank you!

I had my eye on the PB&J burger that I had seen on Yelp, as peanut butter is my favorite thing ever! This burger did not disappoint. While the combo sounds strange, the flavors were well-balanced with the brie cheese, caramelized onions and bacon. The meat was cooked to a perfect medium and the hamburger bun was soft. I chose the kettle chips for my side, and they tasted house made. Very delicious! The only thing I didn't like about this burger was the price tag = $22. Hubby had the seafood chowder for $17 and it was enough for a full meal. He said the chowder was very flavorful and full of seafood. He was in heaven! We both ordered a Quidi Vidi 1892 amber ale on draft. They only had 7 beers on tap and I wished that they had a medium or dark beer, but this area doesn't seem to be big on that. They do have Guinness in a can, if that's your thing. Service was friendly and the food came out relatively fast. The booths were comfy and the pub reminded me of a cozy neighborhood bar. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!
