A neighborhood tradition, the Tillson Street haunt fascinates families from all over southeastern Michigan. Doesn't matter if you walked here or drove a few or several miles, it's all so worth it to walk up and down this one little street with the most elaborate Halloween decorations in the area. Many of the houses change up their decorations each year so it really is a treat to make it a family tradition of visiting each year. At the beginning of the street off of the main road, there is also a Dairy Queen...so you can really make a great evening out of your visit! The mature trees with their various warm hues of leaves really truly make this attraction.

This was actually around the corner near where I parked. The haunt spills over into the neighborhood.

This year was my first time making it out to Romeo to take in this impressive Halloween display. I'd read about it in previous years, had maybe seen a pic or two and it easily exceeded my expectations. I think the photos I had seen were taken in the day maybe, and that probably had something to do with it. Just from looking at the flicks on Yelp you can see TOTS looks waaay cooler at night, even though I'm now seeing it doesn't look so scary in acronym form. I'd say a good 80% of the houses on a very lengthy block are spooky seasoned to the nines and it's some ghoulishly good sightseeing indeed. Lots of humor mixed in, too. The 2020 election signs crashing the party were a little too real in their terror, far worse than even the fighting Gore and Bush Alice Cooper had at his State Fairgrounds show back in 2000, but I already knew driving up Romeo was gonna be looking red on the map. Main Street seems to be the place to park and several lots were charging $5 which was no big deal given that the eerie entourage is free but the lot I parked in on Devil's Night had no attendant to collect cash so all the better. A couple of the houses had the steady stream of onlookers pretty backed up, but other than that it was a nice move at my own pace experience. The one house I did bail on from a closer sidewalk viewing as the crowd was too logjammed up with non-masked Halloween revellers breathing all down my neck in this year of covid. One house did reference the pandemic with a bubonic plague doctor with giant syringes draped over him like ammo. If you don't want to walk the block you can do a drive-by too, apart from Halloween when the street is closed to motororists for trick or treating. Of course, it's more like a creep by but you probably wanna go at a snail's pace anyway just to take in the eye candy. The next block or two on either side also have some elaborate Halloween displays from neighbors looking to get in on the action, but it's nothing like the crazed concentration of the epicenter on Tillson. Unless it's warm and you feel like doing a bit of hiking, I'd recommend hunting for overflow in a vehicle. Shout out to the dude with the Michael Myers mask wearing a hoodie and holding a bloody dagger by one of the houses. He'd stand perfectly still long enough to get people debated over whether he was a statue or a real person. Then when he finally did move onlookers would be startled or else laugh in triumphant satisfaction over having called it right. So much here to compete for attention but I'm declaring him da real MVP!

What a FUN STREET! Although I have known about Tillson St since I was young, I never had a chance to make it out there! Hubby and I have been there a few times, although it is quite a hike. We usually take advantage and make a stop at Blake for some growlers to go! Please make sure you walk up and down this one little street with the most elaborate Halloween decorations! The crisp leaves, smell of fall and the giggling children make this place so special! The street is fascinating both day and night!!!

What a fun Street to help you get into the Halloween spirit. They truly go out of their way with all the intricate and detailed decoration. If you're like me who really doesn't like the big crowds I would definitely try to go during the week and avoid the weekend madness. Before dark is best with little children (strollers) we went on a Monday two weeks before Halloween and it was perfect. We found parking easily and enjoyed all the views of the homes without the crowds. Plus if you have small children who get scared easily going before dark is the best idea. Also make sure you bundle up walking thru is best and it will take about an hour to enjoy the all the scary decorations. The pictures pretty much speak for themselves. Enjoy!!

Tillson St. is a must do for Halloween time. Such a quaint little town and their time and effort they put into decorating each house is definitely noticed. We kind of went a little late on a weekday and no one from each house was out, and normally they are. There was also a cider donuts and coffee spot that is there but was closed. I throughly enjoyed walking down the block and checking out the different themed houses. My favorite by far is the clown house, very well put together!! Bundle up, and bring some hot coco! And enjoy the scary view! It's worth the drive!

My daughter particularly enjoys the stuffed toys and puppets. I enjoy the atmosphere and fun crowd. The music is great and so is the food. They have one of the best funnel cake trucks with amazing fried Oreos, sooo good!!! Treat Dreams has an ice cream truck with their famous flavors. The ice cream cookies are the absolute best!!! They have an eclectic variety of food trucks that look and smell mouthwatering. But they could use more seating, it's very limited compared to the amount of people eating the goodies. I love the adult beverages available to purchase through tickets. They have a ginormous variety of beer and mixed drinks, plus some of the money goes toward different charities and good causes. It's ten tickets for $20, but this year I noticed you may purchase individual tickets. I prefer this option! Tickets are $2 a piece, so most beers cost around $6 or three tickets. I got the Griffinclaw pumpkin beer. It was amazing! Very pumpkin forward with a nice spice aftertaste. Most of the mixed drinks are between three and four tickets, cheaper than most bars. I've even seen some for two tickets. The parking can be challenging. We were able to find a good spot and only paid $3.00. But I wonder if it gets more challenging in the evening hours. I bet this a fun time at night. This is a great event when paired with the Funky Ferndale fair. I look forward to next year.

This week they had Uncle Cracker performing on Monday, monster trucks on Tuesday, demolition Derby on Wednesday, figure 8 on Thursday, and I went to the rodeo on Friday. On Saturday they have tractor and truck pull and then on Sunday again they have a tractor and truck pull. Ticket prices are $10 for adults starting at age 13 and over and $5 for kids aged 10 to 12 years. Military and special needs get in the fair for free and seniors age 62 and over cost $9. Now those ticket prices include access to everything at the fairgrounds all the grandstand events, but you pay extra for the carnival rides, and they have different daily rates and arm bands that you can buy for the kids or adults if you still like to ride

People must be allowed to leave the seat if they want to or need to - and that seat must remain open when they return (guards trying to shame people to squeeze together not caring that an empty seat is for someone [aka spouse/child] who is coming back). Completely ruined the experience. And then yet another insurance company tells the event participants what they can and can't do? And never have I heard so many f-bombs and angry comments by fellow audience members. It was a shame to see entire families turned away from open seating because they didn't have an "x" on their arm or were in the wrong line. The whole experience was frustrating. Was a hair's breadth of just leaving the fair and making a stink for my entrance money back. For decades, people just filled the stands as they saw fit/when they saw fit and it worked. Was looking to go back for the Figure-8 and Rodeo this week, but no way. Not up for experiencing this fiasco again. Probably just go to the Eastern or State fair next year.

The stage for music is located right next to WAB and beer and whiskey tents are set up in the parking lot behind WAB, The Emory and surrounding restaurants. Admission is free and you can bring your own bottled water with you. It's also a dog friendly event and lots of people walk their dogs around the fest. You purchase tickets at designated tents similar to Arts Bears and Eats. Tickets are $2 a piece. Most beers are about 3 tickets and whiskeys are between 4-7 tickets. I usually start with a sheet of tickets for $20 but you can buy as few or many tickets as you like but they are non-refundable. Food vendors for the BBQ portion were located further down, past the whiskey and beer vendors this year. Surprisingly BBQ/food vendors only accepted cash or credit this year and didn't accept tickets which was kind of annoying because last year they only took tickets and wouldn't take cash and I wish they had posted that somewhere before I had bought extra tickets. The food is good. I had BBQ ribs from Bad Brad's BBQ with a Mexican style watermelon salad with cojita cheese and cilantro which was light and refreshing. Their Pig Candy-candied bacon is delicious! There were lots off BBQ vendors with pulled pork sliders and tacos, ribs, mac and cheese, jalapeño cornbread, and Cheeto covered street corn. Picnic tables were all the way at the other end of the festival this year and it would be nice if there was seating near the food tents. Lots of great beers too from Dogfish Head, Griffin Claw, Shorts, B. Nektar and more. They have whiskey from Jack Daniels, Jameson, Old Forster, Four Roses, Woodsford Reserve, and more. Last year they had some tents that mixed craft cocktails with whiskey and bourbon. I had a Woodsford Reserve mint julep that was amazing and a pineapple upside down cake cocktail with brown sugar bourbon mixed with pineapple juice that was delicious. This year I didn't see many cocktails, just strait whiskey or bourbon or you could add a a mixer but mixers were only limited to lemonade or Faygo soda. The main reason I go every year is for the music. A friend and I love Electric Six and we attend to see them perform every year. Electric Six has closed out the festival on Sunday night for the last six or seven years. They always put on an awesome show. Last year there were torrential downpours and they had to call the festival due to rain, so lots of people got stuck with drink tickets which were non-refundable. However they didn't cancel the music and moved Electric Six's set down to The Loving Touch and it was a really great show. This year we also saw Ann Arbor band Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers who are a lot of fun to see. Verve Pipe also played on Friday night. The festival runs Friday through Sunday. It starts at 6 pm on Friday and around noon on Saturday and Sunday and goes until midnight with music ending at around 9:00 on Sunday. I always have a blast and I'll definitely be back next year.
